Hey guys,
I've spent the last day trying to follow this tutorial:
http://android.serverbox.ch/?p=285
to get USB to serial support working, and I have been having a hell of a time. I don't really know much about linux and I'd never compiled kernel modules before. I did actually get the whole environment going, and got some modules compiled, but they don't seem to work. ttyUSB0 does not show up, and dmesg says "device v0403 p6001 is not supported". Those are the correct vendor and product IDs, and I even checked them against the source code I was using to compile them. I tried compiling from source at google's android repository as well as samsung's source. I couldn't get samsung's to compile, unfortunately.
After copying over and loading the module, the tablet still says something to the effect of "unknown USB device connected." I have tried many other usb devices and they work great, so my cable seems fine.
I added some comments looking for help on the page I link to above, but I was wondering if there might be someone here who is already spending time compiling Galaxy Tab kernels that could just pop out a module for me? I did spent a whole lot of time searching here and on google. I've found that the Acer A500 guys have modules that work for them, but they didn't seem to work for me.
I'm running the latest update for the tablet (touchwiz).
I have some more detailed information about what I have tried and what is happening here:
http://android.serverbox.ch/?p=285&cpage=1#comment-468
Any help is appreciated. I don't expect anyone to compile modules for me unless its easy, but at least advice would be great. Plus I know that other hobbyists would benefit from this.
Thanks!

Oops, sorry. That post is in the LG Revolution forum, a place I never go. It seems there isn't a rules sticky for the Galaxy tab 10.1 android development forum?
Also I thought my post would end up being a hack and it would help others interested in android development.
Anyway not disagreeing with the move I just didn't want to seem careless! Thanks for moving me to the correct forum. Sorry for the trouble.

Hello everyone, i think this is the correct section for my thread
I am making a hardware matrix, i plan to put it on the wiki when its finished so everyone can see it,
Imho the matrix can be used to see which official roms are compatible, and which devices have the same hardware so we can get drivers from different official roms.
Also this might bring wm5 or 6 to devices that did not have them before
Attached is a XLS file with the current info i have been able to gather
I ask everyone and anyone to please add information, preferably exact details like manufacturer of the part, and the part id.
Your thread is likely to get lost soon.
I suggest that you start the wiki page first, and then ask a mod to make a link to it sticky.
Modaco has a table of hardware, and HTC also, although they are not very technical.
It's a good idea - and having links to rom cooks' pages would also help keep the noobs happy when seeking compatible roms.

i tried to make the wiki table, but i keep getting the following error:
Code:
Plugin OldStyleTable failed. Line does not begin with a '|'.
EDIT
Its a bug in the WIKI, even the test code doesnt work http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=OldStyleTablePlugin
where can i report problems with the wiki?
found the problem, it was due to use old being checked
i finally made the page
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HardwareMatrix
Well, it's all in the title and I'm sure it has been asked but I'd like it to be more HD2-specific.
Can someone point me to a blog, xda thread or wiki that explains how to cook your own CM rom ? HD2 related or something that would do.
I know a lot of threads that tells you where to start and what to do...but not much explaining the process all the way through, in order to understand it.
Any help on this ?
Thanks !
Well nothing ?
its been less than 24 hours
google is problem your best option or sending a message to one of the actual devs and waiting for a reply
Yeah I already contacted one...
Don't get me wrong: I've done some research but it's hard to encounter a step-by-step guide or a real bible.
Thanks.
yeah it is difficult to find the info, there are kitchens available but they dont really give you information on how to write the scripts etc which i think comes down to just having the knowledge of where to start and what to look for to modify/hack
Exactly. Wiki's tend to tell you "type this in terminal" but why I should do it, that they don't say. Of course, they can't explain every specitif command but at least the ones really related to the cooking rom process...
I've been trawling the forums and I can't find step-by-steps on installing Vegacomb. I'm a tech, but know next to nothing about installing ROMs. I'd greatly appreciate a pointer to the instructions.
Thx.
ha! with you there, android people seem to love their spartan instructions delivered in a very certain geek speak.
we'd go mad at anyone in the x86 hackintosh community who tried to pull that, but hey ho..
had my vega android thing for a week and flashed 4 types of rom after decoding the instructions. basically there are a number of ways depending on the rom you wish to use.
here's a good guide, but they wont let me post an outside link google tabletroms ..vegacomb instillation guide.
Okay, pardon me if this is in the wrong section.
I've been doing some research, and I'd like to try to port MIUI to the Nexus 7.
I've found this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1499411
I'm not a complete newcomer, but I haven't built a rom since my days of owning a G1. I've already got an could anyone possibly point me in the direction of any tools or guides that may help me? I've already got the Android-SDK, so don't tell me to get that.
In the meantime, I'm going to try to build one myself. Wish me luck, and I'll post any results I may have!
hey there paranoid team,

Why do you need installation instructions? It's the same as any other ROM. Custom recovery, factory reset, install ROM, install gapps. Reboot

because sir,
it reassures people who have never done it before....a small example...i am 43 years old and until feb of this year i had never used an android device, then one day my brother came over and gave me one and voila i was introduced to android and have never looked back..my point being...there are new people discovering android every single day...we are labeled....NOOBS...by the community...and for good reason,we know little if nothing about the devices we own...but as you....and maybe many people all over the globe were once also NOOBS you can understand that a friendly bit of info..like installation instructions...can go a very long way to helping people feel better about what they are doing...and save everyone who has to help them out,(when they maybe mess it up),wasting their time when i am sure they could/will have better things to do...capeesh...
There are tutorials EVERYWHERE. Xda, YouTube, blogs. This is not ROM specific. Why do we need to rehash the same things that are already published out there? Use the info that is already there. No need for us to rewrite it. Flashing Roms requires learning the lingo, the proper tools, and the willingness to learn how to recover from failure. This website contains more knowledge than you can imagine on these things. The onus is on you to learn what others have already provided.

Questions before buy Oppo 7
Hi
I love the paranoid rom, thanks a lot!!!
I have figured out that many questions is answered in change log, but as a not so experienced user i hope the community will answer me in this thread, by prose or by links, thanks!
Before i buy oppo 7 i like to ask a few questions.
- is headset play, paus, skip volume etc part of PA rom; when the screen is on, and off?
- support PA install apps on sd card, or can it move apps to sd card?
- what steps is recommended before i root and before i change rom to PA? Do i need to take some backup of important info? This question is due to possibility to restore phone to "original"
