Verizon will not offer GALAXY S II - Networking

Just saw a report on WSJ saying that Verizon won't offer the GALAXY S II but BGR says that it will offer a very similar device so we don't have to be worried. Whew!!
http://www.bgr.com/2011/08/25/exclu...-ii-but-similar-samsung-phone-launching-soon/

From the picture, it looks identical to the SG2..(unless it is) Maybe a LTE version of it? Or maybe it is just the Nexus Prime

yeah, the nexus prime and Droid Bionic.

Just read on Android and me that Sanding us going to announce the VWZ LTE version at IFB (think it was that). Supposedly has a 1.5ghz dual core and a 4.5 inch screen....epic win?
Only the Prime can compete with the SG2. Moto messed up the Bionic badly. Like I said before, if they followed their initial release date, the Bionic eouldvt sold alot, but no it's not. Im sure a lot of the devs that would've worked on it or going to pass on it for the Prime, Vigor, or SG2

Bionic is DOA unless google sprinkle some of its magic, the GS2 or whatever LTE variant is going to be the next wild goose chase, meanwhile verizon will be banking tons of money selling old ****ty phones with LTE.

Just speculating for fun, what do you think the 3rd Nexus will be like? HTC, Samsung...LG? Dual-Core/4.3"/3D? What specs can you envision. The first from HTC was innovative, the current from Samsung brings NFC, what will the 3rd one have? Discuss..

Got a strong feeling it will be a clone of a future phone that we have not seen yet, but it will probably the best of class out of the Tegra 2 Dual Core phones.

Dual-Core for sure.

LG or Moto or even Sony Ericsson next, I imagine.

True true. It could be the flagship device for Quad-Core and just skip dual cores.
I like Samsung and LG looks promising, I don't think it will be HTC or MOTO since they are both trying to lock everything down right now.
I envision: quad core, 3D, 4.0" screen (I hope), 4G. Hopefully everything else that we have now plus better battery.
A dual core, possibly HTC again, tho there's really no telling, certainly won't run on T-Mobiles network ..(at&t u suck) k sorry back on topic...
I think sprint will get it before anyone else.....I'm thinking Sprint is gonna be Google's new go to guy, especially if and when at&t has its way with T-Mobile .....

it could be like the G2x with multi-bands... Sprint disabled tethering on Nexus S, so I doubt it.
AGAIN. stop over exaggerating the T-Mo/AT&T, it can be disapproved and AT&T will have to pay T-Mobile for the 'breakup fee' which will be HUGE for t-mobile.

Right. And I still think T-mobile will get it first. Google is VERY big on sim unlock phones, because most of the world use GSM technology and not CDMA! Its easier to start with a sim unlock phone first because it can reach more ground that way!
It will either be samsung or LG definitely not motorola since they have been locking bootloaders and nexus phones should be the most hacker friendly android device. It will be dual core or a 3d capable device. G2x, evo 3d, htc pyramid, lg thrill, or galaxy s2 but htc too is getting stricter and google might not want that.

XOOM has a unlocked bootloader. It doesnt even matter what manufacturer its from because Google will ask for it to be bootloader unlock/locked (fastboot oem unlock/lock), I'm sure if Google approached them they would have the honor to do it and just not make it bootloader locked etc. So it doesn't matter what the company's policy is.
If its a Google Experience phone it'd be open. And I wouldn't be so quick to say HTC is locking down phones, or trying to, when we've seen two recent cases.
On topic I hope its a solid dual core (quad! O_O) 4 - 4.5 display SLCD and the obvious goodies inside. And hopefully Sprint as I take this Nexus S and GVoice integration to mean Google and Sprint pairing up.

I thought that too at first, then I was thinking that the G2x is already pretty much vanilla-ish android already, I think a google product would not be diverse enough when compared, and I can't also see a phone rebranded by three different firms. It would be nice though
I think that simms is right, by the time Google decide on a new phone we will be in quad core territory.

Google seems to be showcasing with the Nexus line. "Here's how it should be done."
With the Nexus One Google showed the world how a (non-Apple) smartphone should be. At that time, other smartphones were about as exciting as a 70's Volvo.
The Nexus S showed the US that there is a world beyond carrier lock-in. Unlocked, crapware-free, no contract necessary.
The next Nexus could well be a tablet. "See? Here's how to make a proper tablet!"

I would LOVE to see a MOTO Nexus phone. I really love the quality of their hardware. When it comes to durability, signal strength, call quality, and battery life I think they are better than anyone else. I am really liking Samsung too though. Hopefully one of those 2 make the next Nexus.

Upcoming Sumsung Phone on Verizon

I know some people have been turned off from the lack of updates from Samsung/Verizon or whatever. (I blame Bing)
Unlike other people, after owning the Fascinate.. I actually would love to buy another Samsung phone.
I can't give up the SAMOLED screen. I actually like the over-saturated colors. They give it a POP in comparison to other screens.
What's next.... Samsung Droid Charge... meh.... Not sure why this has no appeal to me? Anyone else feel the same?
However, the Galaxy S 2, I'm completely drooling over this phone....Anyone think the Galaxy S 2 would come to VZW - or the US... ?

WHOA. I had no idea it was that close to release, I thought it would come out in September at the earliest. Geez, I wonder if I Verizon will let me trade in my Fascinate for it, and I just pay whatever difference there is. My phone sound quality sucks, the GPS is a mixed bag, and I can complain about them not pushing Froyo to their phone yet (yes, I do currently have a Froyo rom on my phone, but it's still a legitimate complaint since it's a leak I have running). I really really want the new Galaxy S II. Worst case scenario, I'll have to find some way of getting the money to purchase it for full-price off contract.
According to a leaked Verizon roadmap, the SGS2 may arrive as early as next month on Verizon(with LTE!):
"Verizon’s spring roadmap has 8 Android phones releasing in less than 60 days"
I am sorry, but that Road Map is fake (I hope I'm wrong). I would LOVE the S2 to come out next month... but... I'd look for it by the end of the summer. The only question is, will it be the actual S2, or an altered step child like the Fascinate to the Original Galaxy S?
We should make a list for upcoming non-Samsung phones.

I know I definitely plan on making the S2 my next phone. I'm with the OP in that I'm not at the least turned off by Samsung. I blame Verizon. I've been through this before with the OG Storm. Yes, Rim was responsible for some hardware issues but in the software realm, Verizon sucked in releasing timely firmware to fix software glitches. I had to rely upon the BB community in order to get my phone up to snuff. If Verizon didn't have such a large and reliable network, I'd leave them.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 4g LTE launching on Verizon July 28th

Yeah, sucks that it's late. Sucks even more that there'll be another 4g tablet out on VZ first, but Motorola Mobility is feeling it in the stock values.

LOL! About to be?!
Tomorrow, it'll be 5 months since I bought my Xoom. I expected that getting LTE into the Xoom would be Motorola's number 1 priority given the unusual nature of its work-in-progress release, but reality set in over two months ago when Motorola's CEO tied the Xoom getting LTE to the release of the Bionic. That showed me that our Xooms weren't the priority for Motorola.
Live and learn! And what this episode has taught me is to never trust Motorola ever again.

Seriously, trying to figure out why people are so upset.
Was there an expectation that the Xoom would be updated to LTE before any other LTE tablets were released on VZ?
When I bought my Xoom, it was because I needed an Android 3.0 development device. So for me, the primary purpose was fulfilled just by having the Xoom.
As in, 4g for me is nice to have but not the whole point of the purchase.
So you guys who are all honked off, is it because you really, really need 4g?
As an aside, this is also the first product I've ever bought which didn't have all the hardware capabilities at purchase. Has there ever been another product with a similar post-purchase upgrade?

Edit: I do remember that Best Buy briefly had an ad which claimed first VZ LTE tablet, and that the sdcard was functional. The ad got posted here, but disappeared pretty quickly.
Best Buy has a terrible reputation for technical inaccuracy in their advertisements, though.
Heck at this point I was just thinking about upgrading my xoom 3g Verizon to the galaxy tab 10.1 because if u got your xoom thru Verizon and log on to your account it always says upgrade now.But I see no point when Asus will be releasing a tablet with Tegra 3 in October.

Nexus Prime or Samsung Hercules?

Just a general question, which one would you get? I personally was excited for the hercules, but when I found out the nexus prime is also coming out in october and saw the specs on it, I may lean towards the nexus prime. Only thing it will be missing is touchwiz.

When I say most likely same hardware, because the Nexus devices have had a device that is similar but has a skin or something of that nature on it. Desire for the Nexus (even though it was released later) and the Galaxy S for the Nexus S.

prime to go along with my nexus s and nexus1
I'd prefer not to ever buy a Samsung product ever again as I feel so burned by my Vibrant (from the GPS standpoint alone).
If I had to pick....no doubt....Prime. Regular and fast firmware updates. I don't view the lack of Touchwiz as a drawback.

Only concern I have about Nexus Prime.... I am on T-Mobile with the Even More Plus plan where you pay your phone on installment... on the new plans this will be called a Value Plan, but basically the same thing... no subsidized phones, you pay installments...
No problem... except that Nexus S for TMO has been through Best Buy ONLY, and you can't do Equipment Installment Plan (EIP) through Best Buy... only subsidized, which you can't do on a Plus/Value plan with TMO. which has meant that if I wanted to get a Nexus S (as I was considering as a friend wants my Vibrant) I would have to pay full price UP FRONT... ... and this will be the same whenever the Nexus Prime comes out most likely.
so in short... TMO has me screwed whichever way I go... Unless they offer the Nexus Prime in company stores on on the website where I can get EIP, which they haven't done in the past....

Yea, the only thing lesser about the prime would be the 5mp camera(that still does 1080p video according to rumors) that is supposed to have better sensors for low light conditions. Since I have a vibrant, better sensors is all I could want, and if it DOES do 1080p then it should be hackable to do 8mp pics(I have hacked so many cameras, camera phones are easy).
I didn't like the fragmentation that the SGS1 had, the same kind I think the SGS2 will have here.. I fear the communities will be smaller because of that, therefore less support, unlike for nexus S. If the prime goes tmobile, I would jump it like no tomorrow, unless some new information surfaces that really makes it bad, that's where I put my money.
i doubt it will come to tmobil! i bet it will be a verizon exclusive according to rumors. Imj getting a hercules! i hope they dont push it back to the oct 26...

You're right about Google not wanting to piss off the other mfr's. They do not want to give Motorola any unfair advantages.
This is probably going to be relatively Vanilla in its release, as Google's Larry Page and Sergey Brin have hinted that much. However, it will not be the Nexus 5, as they are calling it the Moto X. Read this: http://www.ibtimes.com/moto-x-motor...nexus-5-will-be-made-usa-release-date-1283813
Also, they are saying the phone will be very competitively priced, and given the proper factory, Americans can make a hell of a better device than a Chinese person treated like a slave can. Happier people work better. Just ask any rich Chinese, they refuse to buy things manufactured in their home country.

Moto X Specs
The Moto X may have mid-range specs, but don't some devices like the iPhone or Galaxy S3 and S4 variants have mid-range specs too? It's the OS that makes the phone run smooth, not necessarily the specs it has. iOS and Touchwiz are perfect examples of this. I have never heard of a Touchwiz device or an iPhone (current generations) that run slow with their mid-range specs. Also, project butter should speed things up right? I think people are immediately counting out a phone based on specs not on usability or experience with the device. It's way to early to tell considering official specs haven't been dropped yet.
Looks are OK, but features needs to be kick a**
All I care about is the screen being bigger than 4.5, and a battery with at least 2500mah... I'm using a GS2 Epic with a dual core CPU, running 4.1 JB... It runs just fine... This dual core will be significantly more powerful than my GS2, and close if not more powerful than the GS3 CPU... And updates, updates, updates... Can't forget about the updates...

I saw the release news and videos, and I immediately threw my wallet at my screen. If they sell it for around $300, you'd be dumb not to buy one. I really hope it will work on WIND....

I agree, but it's $200 with a contract so I wouldn't expect to be able to get one for less than $600 or so (other phones that are $200 with a contact are priced over $600).

Nexus phones arent usually announced until October/November time. At least that was the case for the Nexus 4 and the Galaxy Nexus.
In any case I pre-ordered mine through Rogers so I will be anxiously waiting for it to come whenever it does.
