stock transformer now almost perfect? - Eee Pad Transformer General

the 8.6.5.9 update answered my few remaining OS niggles -- most importantly ad-hoc wifi tethering -- and with the wider availability of accessories (like a spare charging cable), i think i'm finally happy.
it also helps that i discovered "native" display mode on my toshiba tv so that the hdmi input from the TF is no longer clipped.
youtube HD plays beautifully (except in opera altho. i'm sure an update there is imminent) and i can c&p in polaris.
my tf is stable. very few crashes.
no need to root at all.
what's not to like now?

I agree, not many grumbles here at all either
If there was a way to block ads without rooting it would be perfect
That reminds me, I was going to take a look at my router, Im sure it has URL blocking in the settings, I might try adding the AdFree HOSTS list into there

At home, i am using peixelserv to block ads in my dd-WRT router for wifi conections.
Truely, i am still lookig for resons to root my TF.
Specially when netflix also works now, although the quality of movie is too bad, looks like it thinks tf is a phone and streams in low resolution.
I dont have any problem with my dock.
I want my tf to connect to serial port of my sun sparc servers using usb to serial cable. I dont know which software to use. I think it needs usb otg support which i guess honeycomb already has. This is the only reason i might do the root if it needs some hack.

Good point there...on Samsung TV's it's called Picture Size and you need to set it to "Just Scan" mode to show everything rather than 16:9 mode. Other manufacturers will have different but similar modes to adjust the display to show the TF output as it should.

8.6.5.9 WW rooted is perfect for me. I'm well happy with the tablets performance and features. Although I wouldn't say no to some ICS Android 4.0 love

I have to add myself to this list...with Netflix working (the pixilation only lasts for about 20 seconds, then the picture is crystal clear) and ad-hoc wifi working, and copy and paste working in Polaris....
I'm not rooted for the first time since owning it!...

Well tunneling over ssh if you are on a hotspot does afaik not work if you don't root the device.
+ You can't set any network routes. Or use a http proxy for applications.

I agree, my TF is not rooted, and loving the Transformer more than ever.
It runs really smoothly now, homescreen transitions are perfect, the stock browser
is amazing, it hasn't crashed in weeks and its blisteringly quick. It becomes more and
more useful every day with some fantastic apps being developed for honeycomb now.
Even with a bit of battery drain on my B40 dock I'm really pleased with my Tablet.
Well done Asus

Right now the only thing that bothers me is not being able to open CBRs in file manager or over network like I can with video and mp3s.

its annoying to have such a high sensitivity touchpad...I have accidently overwritten already written notes in many application like Evernote etc many time, none of them have an undo option so i cant remediate. rooting will not help me on this one unless someone comes up with a hack to reduce the sensitivity.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk

Still needs better proxy handling. No Authenticated proxies (hit and miss with http)... Only way I can see to do this is with apps like proxy droid that require root. This will be the biggie for corporate and some school adoption (not only transformer missing this, android in general).

Almost perfect but the default browser still sucks, still getting the block while scrolling. I dont think Asus will ever fix the lag on the browser.

Should include the stock browser in criticism as it's not an Asus developed item

I use Opera mobile it works great.
And I have the touchpad disabled at all times. You can't type if it is enabled.

I am also very happy with the stock image. Unless there is some killer app out there that needs rooting, I do not envision rooting this device.
BTW, talk about browser lag. The text box froze for 20 seconds while entering the last part of the sentence above. This was in FF 6.0 on my quad core Windows 7 system with 16 GB of memory. The activity bar at the bottom shows that as you type the services on the sites "ad.., yieldmanager.com, ..." are being accessed. Perhaps the messages are being scanned as entered for ad keywords to serve up to you.

I noticed that also. Unless I use an "ad blocker" my PC and my TF lag on XDA. When I use an adblocker on both....both work just fine with no lag.

What ad blocker are you using on the TF?

The firmware is coming right along and getting Netflix is a big help. Unfortunately the lackluster build quality makes me pretty unhappy, and that's not something that can be fixed with a firmware update. I'm a little bummed right now because after having to exchange the dock for the battery drain power, I had to RMA the tablet today because of a power button that no longer works. Considering that I don't use this tablet very much (maybe for an hour a week tops) this seems like a lot of breakage for a brand new item. I really wish they had charged more for these tablets and spent the money on higher quality materials.

I have to say for the first couple of weeks I had a HUGE issue with the touchpad while typing. But in the end it would be what I would call an issue between the chair and the computer... Turn the touchpad off while typing! I email and type a lot and with it in the way during that time it was killing me. We have touch screen dammit!!!!!
Love this device...

Instore Demo's display has artifacts opening apps and jerky scrolling, pinch zooming

I have been on the fence for this ever since it has been out. I have been to bestbuy and verizon to test out the demo units multiple times and both units seem to have the same issue.
When I open some apps, say dolphin hd for example, I can see screen artifacts for a second. Like colored dashes of varying lengths, and this seems to happen often.
Second, when I am trying to pinch and zoom or scroll in Dolphin, it jerky and spastic, there was one other app that did this as well but I can remember which one. The scrolling on the stock browser seems ok but not the best.
Anyway, do any of you see this? More than likely a software fix, but hey, you never know.
And a rant, who on earth thought of that flimsy power adapter, good grief, they were both broken and the two stores when I first went to look but have since been replaced. And the power button? I have to turn it over to find it.....
Rant off and hoping to fall of the fence.....
Matt
The power button is actually placed well I think. It's not in the way and not hard to get to. I rarely have my device on a table cause of the viewing so it's not a hassle. Also I have not experienced that with dolphin HD on my device.
It's a Dolphin HD problem.
The stock browser rocks.
I haven't noticed any screen artifacts on my display whatsoever. For the most part I disregard demo displays in any store, as you have thousands of people with their hands all over it and the mentality of "Its not mine, what do I care?". God only knows what was done to the demo units.
I have not used Dolphin HD browser at all, so I can't comment on that, i'll try and download it today and give you another reply. The android browser pinch to zoom works damn near flawlessly for me.
As for the power cable, yes I was a little weary of it and the size. But since the battery lasts for quite awhile on this thing, I just plug it in on my nightstand and it lasts me through the day.
My typical uses through the day are music, browsing the internet on breaks, work e-mail, picture management, and work e-mail (exchange push). I start work at about 8 o cloak and am usually done around 6. During this time theres constant use of e-mail and music, and when the day is finished I am around 35%-50% on battery depending on how the day has gone. When I am home, its light browsing and maybe a game for awhile.
The power adapter could become an issue if you plan on having it travel with you constantly, but in a fixed location for charging and nothing disturbing it, its not so much of an issue.
Are you seeing the artifacts? It is like a blip and then the app starts.
I know what you're talking about... but it only occurs for me with Dolphin. I used to use that as my main browser and pinch/zoom when it would try to reload the text/images it would be very jittery.
Again though it's the apps issue not the tablet or honeycomb.
I just had to change the default browser to load as a desktop and not as a mobile device.
i know this probably a common excuse, but HD Dolphin isnt made for honeycomb. Dolphin is making a tablet specific browser and hopefully it'll be release soon. i have both installed just to keep my browser option open.
as for the power button, i think it's the best place. what you dont release from the demo unit is that when actually have in your hands, it's completely different. if the power button was along the side anywhere, it could be easily hit. especially laying down it on it side or even having it in a tablet stand. i even have some issues with the volume button when i place it in my tablet stand.
besides all that, i contact Quickoffice and asked about whether they're developing a Honeycomb specific Quickoffice with editing and making new documents. they said yes
I use the stock browser with no problems.I don't see why they had Dolphin browser on the Xoom anyway because its not designed for honeycomb & furthermore those demo units are no way to judge the Xoom anyway.People push everything in sight on them & mess them up anyway.
I'm surprised they don't perform a reset every once in a while to clear up the device of any hangups.
Though I guess it makes for a pretty good stress test to see if it can handle anything that is thrown at it.

yeah I put all kind of stuff on there testing stuff I read here.
Launcherpro
dolphin
spareparts
asee ( app i use for my home dvr)
The verizon store also had an ipad right next to it, and I do have an ipad now, but love my Droidx.
the other thing I seem to notice is that the colors are a little washed out on the xoom compared to the ipad and the ipad is much brighter, but that always is best especially late at night in the bed. The ipad is to brit on tne dimmest setting.
Man i just cant decide to drop the dough....

A few Questions Regarding the Iconia

Hi, ive decided to get the iconia over the transformer, but i would like to ask a few questions.
1. What is the max amount of points the iconia supports for multitouch, and how smooth is pinch to zoom in the browser and other apps.
2. Does the iconia have a microphone.
3. How are the viewing angles and screen clarity.
4. Does it have a gyroscope
10 all your fingers
yes ,although i doesnt find it,i can ues to record.
i dont know .it is good enough for me ,so i dont care the number .
yes ,it has.
Okay thank you the main concerns was the microphone, can it be used for video chat. Also many of the problems people say they have with the iconia is it software related?
EDIT: I read about a problem where the screen keeps coming on and off by itself, has this been fixed or is it still there and the problem with wifi disconnecting is that still happening or has that been fixed.
the mic is ok .
i use qq,a chat software which is widely used in china.
mic and camera work well.
i dont test mic with msn or skype.
in china , we dont use msn in daily.
but ,if it can be used with qq,i guess it will work with msn or other chat software.
Hi yeah i edited the post above could you answer those questions?

I, too was worried about the problems people seem to be having..
I bought a 32G A500, and the GPS works perfectly.
Wifi is a little sensitive to distance from router, but that might be my router..
To answer your questions:
Dunno - it does pinch zoom and expand perfectly though.
Clear, very clear and sharp. I can read the screen at such an angle it almost horizontal.
It has hardware compass, mine seems to be pretty accurate.
Microphone - dunno where it is, but it records for voice input quite well (although you look a right tit talking to your tablet!)
I suspect maybe a bad batch got out (especially the GPS units, maybe wifi antenna is a bit loses in some). You don't know what people have done to their tab before they start to whine about problems (failed root? deleted apps?)
What I don't like about it?
Full of apps (facebook crap, twittery crap) I'll never use, yet am worried about deleting them in case an update fails and it's bricked - this should have been release with full customisation!
No file manager from start-up - I had to go find some silly ad supported thing to install my backup file manager off the mSD card.
Some apps do't work (copilot dies all the time, NDrive is TINY!!!)

Hi thanks for the response and the problem with the screen turning on and off by itself is that fixed. Also how well do games play on it, and the camera quality when video calling how good is it?
I've not (yet) had the turning on/off thing.
Games play very well on it, smooth and crips.
EG: N64oid was almost unplayable on my previous tab, this plays it like BUTTER.
(Nenamark test of old tab was 16.7 fps, this tab is 37.7 fpds)
I don't do video calling. Rear camera is nice, good pix in low light (flash), nice pix in daylight. No tried front cam yet, not needed to.
(I have specific ideas of what I want a video app to do, and until i find one I won't use one. It basically need to do what the Logitech VID system does for PC, including allow tablet to PC video chat)
Questions and Answers A500
I've had mine for a couple of weeks and I'm really loving it...
I've done video chat with both Google Talk and Skype with many friends and many of them commented how clear my video was, sound was a tiny bit muddy to start, but with some tweaks, got it sussed out.
If you get root, get a program called Adfree which downloads a database of ad servers and keeps ads from running on your android.
On / Off issues still exists for a number of users. I've experienced it on a few occasions, mostly when I've let the unit go to sleep - not turned off. There is another thread that seems to think it's a wifi wakeup / router call issue and will probably be fully addressed when 3.1 rolls out later this month.
If you have any more questions ask away!
wifi works well ,at least on my device, build 135.
some people say wifi works better with build 141,a little update.
so i think it is fixed.
screen off/on ,it is not very often .
but ,i dont know wether it is fixed or not.
i dont notice it.
Okay I have another question how much free space for apps installation is there?

I've had mine just over a week and noticed the screen on/off thing for the first time today. The only 'new' thing I have done was connect it to my Ubuntu laptop via the micro USB. This caused USB debugging to activate which I also saw for the first time today.

Want to know stuff

1. Would you buy this again (Buyers Remors) after having it just a few days ?
2. Any light bleed ?
3. Any keyboard lag either using the browser or other apps ?
4. Any cosmetic issues with the tablet ?
5. Battery life at this time
6. Troubles transfering pictures/music from PC to tab ?
7. How is the camera on the tab ?
8. WiFi drops ?
9. Apps that you would like to have but not available
1. Yes, like i stated before i do feel as if your going to give up something to gain something at this point with tablets. The sd card on the xoom is normally how i would flash customizations, but the form factor and weight was more important to me.
2. None.
3. Keyboard lag on xda, same as my xoom.o
4. No. The build is equal to the xoom in my opinion minus the weight.
5. Didnt really keep track of it, but i use it hardcore and i think the xoom lastest me a little longer and charges a whole lot quicker!
6. After downloading drivers and switching off usb debugging it workes great.
7. The camera is not the same as the xoom camera as far as button placement but its easy to figure, photos are what you would expect nothing eye popping, servicable.
8. Not once. I also use wireless teather at work and it works flawless also.
9. Cant really think of any apps, but i do miss the customizations that are on my xoom like bigDX's themes and different fonts, really dont care for the stock look or colors on any of these tablets. Hope this helps.
Thank you mankoorb. So far you are the only one that has given me some food for thought in buying the tab. Wish there were more user reviews but guess we will have to wait a bit more.
You say that you have experienced some lag on xda. How long of a delay ? One or more seconds or less ?
How do you turn off usb debugging ? Don't have the tab yet, but is it some where in Settings or eles where ?
on xda only when typing replys the letters dont come up instantly. Usb debugging is in settings then computer recognizes the tablet as storage.
i hope to see more reviews as well, but since no one but those in nyc have it, there's barely anything. I'm going to be getting mine from amazon supposedly the 20th so I'll try to answer some questions for you when i get mine

1. Yes I would certainly buy this again. I've been using an ipad since it first came out only for lack of better options. Now I finally feel like I can sell it on ebay and use this tab as my travel companion (once I can get a decent case of course).
2. No light bleed on my unit whatsoever (bought in NYC on 6/8 - just happened to be in town on business)
3. I had some keyboard lag until I turned off haptic fedback and that seemed to do the trick. Also switched from the Samsung keyboard to the Android keyboard. Not sure if either was the actual solution but no lag.
4. This tablet is gorgeous. No creaks (i.e. Archos 101), awesome screen quality, love the UI as I am a hard core Android phone user and love the similar look and feel.
5. So far so good. Haven't really tried to stretch it yet.
6. Haven't tried on a PC yet. Had issues on a Mac but then suddenly Samsung provided an updated version of Kies on their site on 6/9 and now I have no issues. Drivers are an issue on PC - I was in the process of tracking them down when I stumbled across the new Mac software.
7. Front camera is serviceable to decent on Google Video chat. MUCH better than ipad 2 via Skype.
8. Not yet.
9. So far so good. I use this for business quite a bit so PDF signature app is critical (found it) and then of course the usual suspects - ESPN, Wells Fargo, Etrade, Weatherbug (awesome Honeycomb version), Mobo player for Xvid... Can't wait to see what else becomes available in the coming days/weeks as this device goes out to the masses.
If you can't tell, I love this device. This is what I've been waiting for since ipad launched so I could get away from itunes.
What is haptic fedback and where is it located ? Thanks
Edit: OK, found the answer to what it is but is that also located in Settings ?

1. At this time, no regrets. Size, weight and finish are spot on.
2. None.
3. Keyboard lag only when typing in forums likes these, otherwise no.
4. None.
5. Battery life is spot on with claims.
6. Haven't really taken any, but video is considerably better than what i expected.
7. This actually the answer to 6. Up to yesterday there really wasn't a way to transfer to/from Mac.Kies has been updated on the Samsung site so now its all gravy.
8. I do experience some wifi drops but nothing major.
9. I'm sure that there are some but nothing that has presented me from doing what I want to do.
All in all I'm happy.

well, I got mine for free at google i/o so I can't really answer this. if I were going to get a tablet though, I think I'd pick the transformer over the tab. the lower price, extra ports and keyboard dock make it a clear winner for me. I haven't actually used a transformer though so maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about.
2. Any light bleed ?
not that I can see
3. Any keyboard lag either using the browser or other apps ?
a little bit in the browser but it's managable
4. Any cosmetic issues with the tablet ?
top corners coming out of the bezel.. same issue seen by many others
5. Battery life at this time
never really kept track but it seems quite good. I only charge it ever few days and I usually don't charge it all the way.
6. Troubles transfering pictures/music from PC to tab ?
I haven't had any issues. I think the problems are with very large files like hd movies
7. How is the camera on the tab ?
I'd say it's not so great since it's not as good as the one on my nexus one. I'd rather use my phone anyway though..
8. WiFi drops ?
not at all. strong antenna too

New A7 owner with a few questions please

An existing Asus Transformer owner who just picked up a factory refurbished A7 for $129 (let me know if interested in source). I really like this device - however, I did have a few issues for which I can't seem to find an answer for via search - wanted to see if someone could please help:
1. And way to enable the g-sensor fix without installing a custom ROM?
2. Any way to force wifi to stay on all of the time, so that I get alerted when new emails arrive instantly?
Thank you! Only rel drawback I see with this device is the lack of multi-touch, but other than games, I don't really use it much anyhow...

Factory firmware is crap period, your best bet is to load one of dexter mod, froyo, gingerbread or honeycomb rom, the dextermod 141 and patch 142 will solve both of your problem, 142 is by far the best thing that ever happen to the elocityA7..

Ok, thanks for your input. I was hesitant to upgrade to a custom ROM because they all seem to break bluetooth... But, I can't remember if dextermod breaks bluetooth or not. I think I'll start flashing away and checck out the alternatives out there (I also just realized that there is no ad-hoc support in stock firmware either).
Awesome little device though, especially for $129 - Same CPU as my Transformer in this little bad-boy! True honeycomb would be nice, be want do you want at this price level. Plus I saw that they are introducing the A7+ now, with true mutli-touch, higher-res, etc - so probably not much interest on their part in upgrading the original A7...
One last question - what about a TUN-capable kernel or the A7? Would love to be abe to VPN into my Cisco-powered office....
Thanks again!

I can almost gurante you that no one who own the A7 will recommend the 7+, the reason i buy mine was to support an american company in pennsylvania, every time i call all they are intrested in is your personal info they never correct any shortcommings in their software if it wasn't for dexter this table would have die a long long time ago, i wonder what become of the 10" they were suppose to release..

- usb stick support added.
- changed sdcard handler to stock, but with exception it only work until you eject sdcard/usb , and a reboot is only way to remount (or restart vold daemon which is from a shell)
- honeycomb bootanimation added.
- Files app added (for copying network files to tablet) is buggy with pictures handling in folders. (might be removed again)
- VPN (script + vpn settings enabled/added)
- HDMI resolution changer added in settings (480p -> 1080p output available)

Really? I was pretty impressed with this little device even with the stock firmware (especially for $129!). I might even consider the 7+ when it comes out. I owned a $250 B&N Nook Color and this is WAY nicer than that was!
Although, I do believe that Asus has spoiled me with firmware updates, etc - I've never seen a company support their products like Asus does - I love all of the constant firmware updates....

Where did you get the A7 for $129 ?. I just got one from 1saleaday for $149 and thought that was the best price around. I went back to 1saleaday for another one and like it says, it's for one day only. I would like to get one for my son at college since I think it is great once you put on Dexters Rom. Do you have a site????
Thanks Demi
Sure - you can get them @ MicroCenter for $129 everyday, BUT, I found that is an in-store only thing - can't order online. Not sure why they are so cheap, especially being sold @ retail stores! I'm wondering if they should have been $229! Shhh - don't tell anyone - I want to pick up another one for my son too! I originally bought this one for him for christmas, but I liked it so much that I decided to keep it!
So, unless you live close to a MicroCenter, the best I've heard of is $169 @ NewEgg I think it was....
Anyone know of a wifi keep-alive program that works with the A7? I want my wifi to be on 24/7 so that I get alerted instantly of new emails, etc... Besides that, I've found that it just takes way to long to reconnect and go through all of the new email checks, etc every time I turn the unit on it takes the A7 a few minutes to "get caught up" (system is too slow to use while this is occuring), which kind of defeats the purpose of "always on".
I've tried the CM7 setting to never turn off wifi, but it doesn't seem to work (wifi is still off when i turn the A7 back on).
This is the LAST stumbling block I've run into with the A7 - everything has been solved (ad-hoc, G-sensor fix, Market, TUN-capable kernel) - if I could fix this last thing I'd be really happy!
Anyone? Please?
Thanks in advance!
Unfortunately, tablet will turn off all connections if backlight = 0
The only way to avoid this problem is BackLightKiller. It turns backlight to 0.1 or less but not equal 0, so tablet will work and wifi will work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967931
Additionally you must use another app to restore WiFi it it suddenly turns off...
Interesting - I never had it be so hard to force wifi to stay on before on any other device - now I know why (disabled backlight=disabled network connections) - strange.
Thank you very much for the explanation and the workaround - I'll give it a shot today! Does it really destroy your battery life? I guess it would be nice if it were easy to swtich between always-on (w/backlight hack) and the default scheme - this way you could just "enable" forced-wifi whenever you needed it....
Thanks again - I'll give it a shot a report my findings!
Couldn't get BackLightKiller to work... I installed it on my A7 and when I run it, I just get a blank screen with the title "BackLightKiller" at the top. If I press the Menu button, I get an About and a Settings. I'm just not sure what I'm supposed to do with this app to make it work....
Has anyone got this app working on the A7 (and actually keeping wifi on during sleep)??
Thanks!

What do you want this app to do? This app only sets backlight to 0.1, so tablet consumes less energy, but still working and wifi is working, and you able to get email.
Nvidia was freaky when constructed first reference plate on tegra2 aka harmony.
When you pressing power - you pulling tablet in sleepmode like hibernite in microsoft windows. Even alarm stopping work and tablet does not receive any signals except power on.

That exactly what I want - everything on, but brightness set as low as possible. However, this app doesn't seem to do anything with the brightness... When I run the app, all I get is a black screen with a white title bar that says the name of the app. Is the screen supposed to go completely black when you run the app (by turning the brightness down)? If so, thats not happening with mine. The white title bar is at normal brightness and never goes away....

In our case we can not do more. Backlightkiller paints black on 95% display and it consumes less power definitely.
You can use Screen Filter from my list - it sets brightness.
I don't know more solution.

Interesting.... Oh well, thanks for your help! I'm not sure it uses any less power though, becasue the backlight is still at the same brightness, just a blank screen....
This is a major issue with this tablet for my use, which really sucks - I really liked this little thing! But, if it can't even tell me when I get a new email, then it's not very useful to me. Time to rebox it and give to it my 9-year old fr Christmas, I guess! Damn...
Do you think there is any chance the CM7 wifi-disconnect policy will ever work properly for the A7?
Thanks again!
EDIT: Ouch - it's even worse than I thought - even things like Alarms will not wake up the device in order to sound the alarm! Ugh! Surely, I'm not the only one that sees this as a huge usability issue?
Market Help?
I have the Elocity A7, have had it for a few weeks now, running Dexter's 142 update. Works great in every respect ( I can deal with the multi touch lack) except that I cannot get the Market to allow me to purchase apps. I can get the free ones all day long, but get an error every time I try to purchase one. I am using the same account as on my phone, which works just fine. I have tried installing the latest market update and cleared the cache for the market app, still not working for apps that require purchase.
Any ideas?

New archos 70b it2 (honeycomb) owner and questions

Hi all newcomer here ...congrats for your forum.
I received yesterday my archos 70b it2 honeycomb 3.2 tablet (yep the new 70b internet tablet ...1.2 ghz //512 ram and so on)...so if you have any questions that i can answer do post. Keep in mind although im tech shavvy this is my first android device so im not an expert. Ill try to do my best though.
I have a couple of questions for you. (keep in mind i got latest firm)
a) It seems (to my dissapointment) that the unit CANT handle youtube HD clips. I do have flash player installed and using the built in youtube app. Only way to watch youtube clips is without using hd. Is there something wrong im doing? Im finding strange that it can play 720p mkv but not youtube hd clips that are much less processor hungry.
b) When i connect the device to my pc although it seems to mount ...navigation to its folder and copying movies...its just impossible...slow-sluggish and the copy just never starts. (tried to copy an avi in videos folders ...takes forever). Is there something im doing wrong here? (usb debug is off btw). Maybe because it had low battery and i connected the usb cable to do the transfer?
Anyway in general for 199euros its not a bad tablet...screen is ok (not an ips so viewing angles arent the best) and seems solid built.
Thank you for any help (this same post is in archosfans forum)
Hmm 100+ views and none knows? Maybe i posted in wrong forum ?
Archos 70b IT
Hello, sorry you haven't gotten a reply yet...I am in America (North Carolina) and am waiting for Archos to start selling these tablets. I have the money set aside and just need somewhere to just start selling them...I stopped at HHGregg today and they didn't know what I was talking about...(they really didn't put a lot of effort in making me believe they knew what they were talking about)...anywayz...
I have no idea of problems you are having or the fix for your issues...I was just going to ask how the tablet is overall...like the screen for instance...does the screen seem as though it will be easily scratched or is it nice wipe away glass like a kindle fire? Any other info you can add would be great, it would be nice if you'd post a review of your thoughts since you've had it for over 24 hours now .
Thanks for the post, it's hard to get information for these things here...it is on their website, just not for sale there yet...

The problem is probably in your statement - low battery, You should fully charge the battery before doing anything !
Also, the lack of replies may be due to the fact that hardly anybody has one of these devices yet.
Update
The problem with mounting was solved but doing a factory reset.(maybe the battery low was the problem)
@gig4
Screen is ok. Its not ips so the viewing angles are a bit limited but other than that i would say the screen res is fine. Colors are ok too.
The screen is a fingerprint magnet and im not sure that it would be hard enough too resist scratches. Depends on how you use the tablet i guess but i wouldnt throw it on a backpack if you asking that.
Some problems i have found.
a) Youtube hd = a big NO ...i dont know if this is a problem of honeycomb or the tablet isnt strong enough but...it just doesnt play. My net connection isnt the best but i can stream and view even 1080p at my desktop so i presume it has nothing to do with it. Wifi seems stable hadnt have any disconects. (wpa2)
b) Hdmi out...it connects to the tv but as soon i get it of the tv the tablet needs a hard reset ...(displays a white screen and cant do nothing) ...again im not sure if im doing something wrong BUT there is NO mirroring in tablet and tv...i just see the ui in the tv and tablet responds to my inputs BUT i dont see anything on it.
c) It doesnt charge to 100% ...left it overnight but went only to 99%.
d) Battery is decent...about 5-6 hours surfing / watching movies...
e) Web browsing is hit and miss again...tried 3 different browsers (dolphin hd/opera mini/stock browser) ...some sites work ...some sites doesnt load at all or just freeze...i dont know im really disapointed with android (got an iphone 4 and besides the non working flash i have zero problems surfing).
Overall the tablet is ok in specs but in real world perfomance...im not happy.
Again keep in mind this is my first android device but i would call my self quick learner...
PS flash was installed in all my tests.
The reason that Youtube HD (Flash) does not work is that Flash on Gen8 devices relies solely on the CPU and is not designed specifically for Gen8's, unlike Archos' Video application which uses the DSP (and possibly other components) to do hardware acceleration.
If you want to watch HD quality videos from Youtube on your 70b, I would suggest an application that allows you to download the video file and use Archos' Video application. The app I use for this purpose is Tubemate:
devian7.iisweb.co.kr/download.jsp
(You will have to copy and paste the link in your browser.)
The link is to the developers webpage and offers an apk download so the Android Market is not necessary.
The Gen8's can handle any of the different formats that can be downloaded with Tubemate, with the exception of 1080p.
In regards to the HDMI out:
If the 70b works like the older Gen8's, then the displays do not mirror each other. The external display shows the UI and the tablet acts as a giant (laptop-like) touchpad.
In regards to the browser:
With my Gen8 101, the stock browser works well if plugins is set to on demand and if I am not opening too many tabs/windows that have a lot of pictures (high RAM usage). Other browsers should function well if set to the same settings (Dolphin HD worked about the same when I used to use it).
Also battery life should be better with the plugins set to on demand.
In regards to the battery:
I assume that the reason it doesn't charge to "100%" is due to the firmware. Older Gen8's would charge to "100%" on older firmware versions, while the same devices on newer firmware only charges to "99%". From what I have read, the difference is irrelevant because the difference only shows up when it is charging. i.e. It says it is charged to "99%" while plugged in, but when unplugged it shows a "100%" charge.
thanks...I appreciate the reply.
And for the browser, this most of the time comes from the stupid f... that has done the webpage.
If you don't change the Useragent in your browser, the Website knows that you come from an Android browser.
As most ignorant Webdevs still have no clue that there is someone else then IE,FF or IPhone they sometimes do strange things.
Try to set the Useragent to either Desktop or IPhone and see the changes.
i have this tablet
it is very good for the transport in paris
it is better that the 70 it
i have no problem with HDMi
I'll ask the question again.
Does anyone know if the data transmission speed of wifi radio in the new 70b IT has also been knee capped at a very low 54 megabytes/sec utilizing 802.11n protocol, like all the other Archos Gen 8 devices?
Given that the processor achitecture of the 70 IT and 70b IT are apparently the same (single core ARM Cortex A8), when will Archos push Honeycomb out to the Gen 8 devices?
Also it has been suggested that the new 70b IT OS will be updated to ICS in February. Will the Gen 8 devices get this. And if not, why not?
See that
http://www.jbmm.fr/2012/01/archos70bit-chiffres-tests/
for ICS on this model 70b ? perhaps....
I don't believe the wifi has been ' kneecapped' or nobbled in any way - 54 mbps is the maximum speed for the hardware, it uses wireless n standards and is compatable with wireless n, it is not dual band and only operates at 2.4 ghz, the higher speed of wireless n are obtained using 5.0ghz band, this is my understanding of it, and as you point out that the 2 devices share the same hardware, It's safe to assume the speed will be the same, it certainly seems to be the same on both of mine, but my 70b is a froyo device so can't definitively speak for the 'honeycomb' version.
As the early release 70b, 512mb ram, higher res screen etc... is not getting the honeycomb update due to incompatability, I think it's safe to say the 70IT will definitely not get it, as for ICS - I have seen no such indication from any credible source that this is likely, unless you are refering to dev roms, in which case there are already both 'honeycomb' and 'ICS' roms in the works
