Touchwiz UX release halted per Samsung - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Due to some anomalies related to the SW. (yeah.. Like bricking)

MyTabletLife.com Article - No Honeycomb upgrade for Android 2.x tablets?

Just read this on MyTabletLife.com
Another big rumor hitting the interwebs over the past few days is that Android tablets that are currently running Android 2.x will not see Honeycomb upgrades. According to Eldar Murtazin, writing for Mobile-Review, Google has licensing agreements specifically preventing manufactures from upgrading to Android 3.0 on their devices. This will come as bad news for those with the current Samsung Galaxy Tab.
NotionInk has stated several times that they will be upgrading their Android 2.2 tablet to Honeycomb, so maybe the smaller manufactures did not have these agreements in place. The HYC Flyer hasn’t even released yet, and it comes with Android 2.3, and a tablet version of their Sense UI. If this announcement is true I could see many consumers skipping the Flyer as it will never see the tablet version of Android.

To be released with 3.1?

According to Samsung's official page, Galaxy Tab 10.1 should release with [the TouchWiz UX layered over] Honeycomb 3.1
http://www.samsung.com/us/article/the-next-generation-of-galaxy-tabs
Obviously 3.1 is very new, but I can't find any other Samsung source confirming that it will ship with 3.1. Most pages still say "3.0"
Has Samsung truly changed their ways as far as updates? With 3.1 being announced only a month prior to a device's release, they're now claiming Tab 10.1 to be introduced with the latest version. This is awfully quick considering it took about a year for Froyo to hit their Galaxy S handsets.
Hopefully this bodes well for future updates, too (I'm looking at you ICS).
Interesting ...
I am curious about the Book Cover accessories mentioned there.
Anyone know how does it function and look like?

3.1 is considered a minor update to 3.0. That's why it is still referred to as Honeycomb. It is not the same as the update from 2.2 and 2.3 where they gave them different designations (froyo and gingerbread) and the API changed a lot.
I noticed that too (about the Book Cover). I have a suspicious feeling it will look eerily similar to the Smart Cover for iPad 2 (same goes for the 10.1 itself) -- to be honest, I would be happy with that .

I get that it's a small upgrade, I was just surprised that Samsung isn't going to release it as an OTA a few months after the device is for sale, as that has been their modus operandi for their current Android devices (save for the Nexus S).

no ics for galaxy-s devices link at bottom

The "Nobody knows what the hell's going on with the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab," saga continues today (see Part 1 and Part 2, Part 3) with the latest news now being that Samsung has no intentions of delivering a "Value Pack" upgrade. According to a Samsung source who spoke to The Next Web:
Samsung "will not offer the update due to the hardware specifications of the older Galaxy devices, in that they are limited to and fully optimised for the Gingerbread experience."
That'll likely frustrate some Galaxy S owners but realistically, it's not in anyway surprising. As for the Galaxy Tab, while it's not mentioned specifically -- it's safe to assume that's lumped in there as well. Luckily, there is plenty of custom ROM's floating around to keep you busy if you're that upset over the matter. guess were never getting ics for epichttp://www.androidcentral.com/no-samsung-ics-value-pack-coming

Any chance we can kind of lump all these "we're getting it/ we're not getting it" threads into one?
Samsung needs a foot far up their ass this time. I know we'll get cm9, and I know we've already gotten several updates, but this update obviously has enough user demand and Samsung is straight up LYING to the public about why they won't update the gs1...

Dude they are ALWAYS changing idea concerning the galaxy S and updates. If it's like with gingerbread and froyo you'll get it, but you will be going to have to wait like 6 months.

[News] There's no official lollipop. End of the history

That's all... Nothing more to say :crying:
http://www.youmobile.org/blogs/entry/Samsung-Officially-will-Not-Release-Lollipop-update-for-the-Galaxy-S4-mini-after-all-didn-t-pass-the-Testing-Process
Really heartbreaking. Been waiting on for months. Had held off the urge to root my device, which is still stock till date. I only want the permission to write to ext SD card.
Lollll
Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
There are no reason for
Samsung say :
"We apologize for all S4 mini users but Samsung cares more the user experience of its devices and the update will affect your experience with the device"
LOL..:laugh:.If true, 95% of models produced by Samsung should not be on the market.
Always the same jokes by Samung when it comes to updates. In fact, Samsung's development team has always been bad. Probably an update would be a disaster as I have seen in so many other Samsung models.

First of all I am sure they did not start lollipop development for s4 mini.
So all the talk of "optimal experience" and "comprehensive testing" is BS.
Samsung's developers are noobs. With all those million dollar resources
they could not get lollipop working on a device with 1.5gb ram and fast
chipset. To be brutally honest F4k and arco68 are better than those fat
guys sitting at samsung. With limited resources F4k and arco68 did a great
job. We must be happy and privileged to have such great devs. :good:
This is not only with Samsung but for all the companies. I had the same experience with SONY, LG etc. So thanks to all our devs for keeping our phone alive.
All these clarifications by Samsung regarding optimal experience is a pure **llsh**.
When Android ONE hardwares can run lollipop there is no reason why these devices can't.
There should be an uniformity regarding giving updates as provided by Google for android ONE phones - support for two years.
I love Apple on this respect. Minimum three updates and the rumour for this year is iPhone 4s will get ios9 meaning thereby four continuous updates. Appreciable.
If one needs updates for android devices for a longer period of time, it's better to go for Nexus devices by Google, though single SIM but worth the investment.
Google should do something for this wide fragmentation in Android devices regardless their age and hardware. The companies should be somehow tied to commit a minimum support period for OS updates while buying.
Thanks

S7 is getting Pie update according to Samsung support

So I messaged Samsung support yesterday about the S7 and if it's getting Pie and One UI and they responded to me saying that the software devs are working on a Pie-based One UI update but they didn't give me an ETA. So far it looks kinda exciting.

Didn't somebody also say that samsung was working on a Oreo update for the Galaxy S6, but it was false information, because the supporter meant a security update and not a major firmware update. I mean, we already have several One UI ports here, the only people who would benefit are Snapdragon users.
Odd since I asked them yesterday and they said there are no updates confirmed

Wow really wow, if they make this I have both snapdragon and exynos variant it would be great for one ui to be on both of them

Aren't all of our Pie ROMs fundamentally based on Ivan Meler's LOS 16 beta, though? There simply isn't anyone else who was able or willing to reverse-engineer all of the drivers and take over the, apparently, messed-up device tree left over from LOS 14's last maintainer. The One UI "ports" add the Samsung libraries and SystemUI mods needed to make Samsung stock apps work, but below the application layer, everything I've seen so far is the same. That means that they all share the occasional hard reboot and memory leak issues with Magisk. The further they stray from the original LOS 16 beta, the less stable they get; Havoc for example is an undailyable huge mess with all of its customizable system apps. Some people say it works, but I suspect those are the same super-enthusiasts who've had a ROM of the week since the Gingerbread era, and they're just used enough to instability not to notice it.
The last official ROMs, and the SupermanROM/GalaxyProject stuff based on them, played nicer with Magisk and, if you still care in 2019, *a lot* nicer with Xposed. Never a reboot, not even once, as opposed to LOS 16 rebooting every 3rd or 4th time it connects to Android Auto (the Lockscreen to SmartLock handoff is at fault if I had to guess), and no negative performance impact. Even the N and O LOS ROMs were a lot better. I'd expect the same improved stability and moddability from a ROM ecosystem built around official Pie as we had with Oreo, which would be good for everyone whether Exynos or Snapdragon.

According to the Samsung Members app, it was supposed to launch in August 2019. I contacted Samsung Support and they said that it was happening, but they had no ETA.

I think it was a mistake.
The information from Samsung was removed from their website after a short time.
Is there a creation date for this message, maybe it's just an old message?

According to the Samsung Members app, the notice was posted on Sept. 6th 2019. Here is the link to the screenshot: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AnXXk5PX0LXn3wuWqWwNmAV2aoSZ?e=dLSiTI
Sounds great but happy with the rooted Pie. Saving a lots of battery and RAM.
