This is a joke for sure.
My S has Eclair, till this time there is no official froyo upgrade available for my phone and samsung is going to release gingerbread the coming February?
Are we talking about Samsung or about the comedy channel?

This is the difference between porting (having to program the drivers for about everything) and having a native release (like HTC on N1).
Now that NexusS is in the hands of Google, we can expect faster release!

Froyo has been out since October/early November, officially released by Samsung. Blame your carrier if your not getting the update. Contrary to belief, Samsung is quicker than HTC when pushing out updates, it's just that HTC devices have a much larger userbase on XDA, hence the quicker porting/updating.
2.2.1 has been out officially since September as well on N1,

N1 is the base on wich they developped the update, don't you think it's normal it gets prior updates?
It is also pretty usual that all the "clones" of N1 will get theses updates pretty fast, since HTC only have to put their bloatware on it and it's pretty much done!
Thanks! Hope this is true.

2.3 will come officialy probably by the time the phone is phased out.. not all countries have 2.2 yet.
err i will believe when i see leaked firmware of 2.3. Then it shows that they are truly working for a 2.3 release

Both of these are hardware dependant and both the Galaxy S doesn't have. The multiple camera support is for using with taking 3D pictures and/or recording 3D movies. And NFC is there so that android devices can attempt to get ahead of the iphone5 which is said to support it but these needs a dedicated chip.
Seriously, the Nexus S is nearly identical to the Galaxy S, and it takes them this long?

Google can not give the gingerbread code out to companies until it has been officially released.
Meaning no company will have any advantage in the race for gingerbread.
Only advantage samsung has, is gingerbread was built using their hardware

Wait and see
well the recent froyo release to Bell i9000m owners did some damage to many peoples internal SD cards. Wonder what gingerbread will do to them...(melt them!)
Ah well, God knows I will try anything to get this device to function properly - I really do love it - but cant stand the issues it has.

I have had one problem with this phone since purchase in September. You need to try a custom rom with a kernel upgrade, not like there is any lag in stock JPU.
I don't get how so many people complain about this great device when it can be pimped out within 30 minutes.

Some Galaxy still don't have an official Froyo update yet. And the ones that do are still laggy. The 2.2.1 is finally a ROM that isn't laggy but its not official its a leak.
If Samsung comes out with Gingerbread they will screw it up. I'd rather have the community come up with a basic Gingerbread that works. And the community will do it long before Samsung does.
dude this is samsung, we all saw what happened with froyo and all the delays.
I have little hope for a febuary release, i say it's closer to june
2.2.1 is a revelation. I have put it on my galaxy s and its no longer laggy, really smooth, new market, lock screen wallpapers etc. Finally its transformed the phone into the powerhouse it always had the potential to be. I urge you all to get 2.2.1 ASAP!
After no rom leaks in the past few weeks after JPY I am starting to wonder will Samsung update our phones to gingerbread or leave us behind when Galaxy S 2 phone is announced next Month. I know gingerbread was just announced but usually roms leak out from Samsung regularly most probably so they can beta test
but no new roms is giving me bad vibes
i was thinking the same thing.. only new roms coming out (leaks) are 2.2 not even 2.2.1 ... i would think if they were working on gingerbread we should have seen a leaked rom by now. i have a feeling they are dumping for newer phones.
We wont get Ginger bread if we where samsung would have announced it by now to sell more phones
We will get it.
SGS will get Gingerbread ... Comfirmed by Samsung Mobile India on Twitter Account.
I do remember reading somewhere that Samsung claimed we'd be getting Gingerbread via twitter, if that's anything to go by... Q1 2011 was the 'expected' arrival for it too though I thought? :S like gingerbread isn't just a revision, such as 2.2 –> 2.2.1, its a whole buildbuild upgrade which may require more effort than expected (even supercurio and the cm team haven't made any significant galaxy s gingerbread improvements lately besides their initial work).

They said Ginger beard not Ginger bread and why have the twitter answers been removed samsung would have properly announced it to sell more phones bit they haven't
At a guess yes and a probable for 3 but that will depend upon hardware .

It Samsung wants to stay in this fight ... than they have to...It make no sense to release Galaxy S 2 and not providing 2.3 to 10 milions SGS Owner .... That would be wrong decision from my point of view...
i dont think, ppl will simply move to SGS2 for the sake of 2.3
seems likely to get 2.3 at this point, but it will take some time - they might also have killed some "leakers", we didn't get newer 2.2.1 builds either..
I don't care much for gingerbread i just want now a perfect 2.2.1 rom from samsung with no lag and gps like JM9.
I got the feeling we will , 10 million sold. Would be bad for their name not releasing. But also , i wouldnt be suprised if they dont release it.

Samsung has told Pocket-lint that it is unsure whether the latest version of Android, version 2.3, will be coming to the Samsung Galaxy S, following the announcement that its new flagship phone, the Samsung Nexus S, will be packing the new operating system when it launches later this month.
Rather than simply telling us whether it is or it isn’t, Samsung has told us:
“In case a new version of Android operating system is publicly announced and released, Samsung will review the possibility of implementation of such new version to the existing Samsung products with Android operating system (“Update”).
"Such a review will be based on various factors including, without limitation, the overall effect of such Update to Samsung products, the system requirements, the structural limitations, and the level of cooperation from the component suppliers and the software licensors”.

If the SGS brand doesn't get Android 2.3, expect a large noise from the 10 Million customers that will be outraged that a 6 month old phone is no longer supported.

to me that means if we bring a better phone out called galaxy s2 we will not update the galaxy s because the new phone will all ready have the update installed so we can rip more people off
just found this online and it doesnt look good......... JK Shin, president of Samsung Mobile, has now gone on record saying that we'll get a new Galaxy S device at Mobile World Congress in February that'll feature Gingerbread, a dual-core processor
I _would_ be upset if there was no update after the initial Froyo - knowing that a lot better is available. Especially knowiing it would affect 10 million customers.
2.2.1 or 2.3 would not matter too much. It doesn't seem 2.3 offers a lot compared to 2.2. And perhaps the ext4-basedness of the Nexus S is problematic, for example for mass storage support.
It seems Samsung is pretty good at offering features of the next version in a previous incarnation. My 2.1 had the wifi AP - which belonged to 2.2.
Let's hope for some support. My primary hope would be lag fixes and after that ongoing security support.

I agree I dont like the new notification icons for 2.3. so happy with 2.2.1 with lagfix and oc.
But if we think about this 2.2.1 gave us a ota update feature.
would they really put this into the phone ( I can image it took a dev some time to get this to work for 10 million phones) if they had no intention of updating?!?!?!?1
Short: YES.
I'm pretty certain we'll see gingerbread..although it'll probably be a bit of a wait.
Now whether or not we ever see icecream....
That's probably a pipedream....
Well...maybe we won't get it officially..

Please, please keep up. The new Galaxy S x2 will be announced on the 13th of Feb and for those who keep on about 2.3 see below.

Not keeping my hopes up that we will get 2.3, if we do its an added bonus. The next galaxy S is just a couple of months away from release so Sammy might make that a selling point..
When I was looking for a date when the Galaxy Tab 10.1v would get an update to Android 3.1 i found this link.
http://mobile.downloadatoz.com/tuto...-1-8-9-7-to-update-android-3-1-honeycomb.html
Can it be or not? Can't even find the download though.
Do you guys know when Samsung will release 3.1 officially?
This is most certainly fake. First of all the picture doesn't even have honeycomb on it. Secondly they say that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be the first device to get 3.1 while the others are waiting just to get gingerbread 2.3.4
Two things wrong with that, the xoom already has 3.1 and they are comparing a tablet which will get 3.1 eventually to other "devices" waiting for 2.3.4 which are smartphones which will never get 3.1 because 3.1 is intended for tablets and google tv.
This is one of those crap put together sites with misinformation.
He's absolutely crazy if he think the Galaxy Tab 7 is getting Android 3.1 anytime soon (if ever).

I am not sure, but I am hoping the update is out by June 8th when they release the Samsung 10.1 in US.
I can at least give you somewhat good news. Android 3.1 was released last Friday in the US on the Motorola Xoom. So it is officially out and I am assuming and hoping that it should be released shortly on the Samsung.
Looks like the Xoom and some new 7 inch tablets could be getting 3.2 in the coming weeks.
http://www.phonedog.com/2011/06/20/...t-for-several-screen-sizes-and-qualcomm-cpus/
* Ability to run on a "range" of display sizes
* Support for Qualcomm processors
* Bug fixes
* Better hardware acceleration
* Updates for Movie Studio, Movies, Music, and widgets
Hope the work Samsung is doing with TouchWiz UX doesn't delay us getting this 3.2 update. I could sure go for a nice big cup of "bug fixes" right about now. And some of that "better hardware acceleration" would taste good too.
i'd stick with vanilla for now, as honeycomb def still needs polishing. hardware acceleration is important, and i hope they improve text selection, copy and paste, and overall text typing, as i find those to be the most frustrating right now.
I bet you we'll either get it late or Samsung will throw touchwiz over top it. If they do i hope one of the devs can get all of that ugly UI junk off of it.
Or maybe 3.2 is the reason why Samsung didn't ship the tab with TouchWiz....

You may be right, but they never promised you a stock android device either.
I'm taking the wait and see approach rather than seemingly everybody else's negative approach.
Google already said they are not releasing the source code of 3.x so what I am waiting on is 4.0 so that the CM team can bake up a nice rom. But until then I am really happy with how well mine is working. There has been some lag but only when like 10 apps are running.
Apparently in the middle east (launch mid july)- the tab will be launched with touch wiz instead of vanilla honeycomb - i'll still be picking it up - with hopes of flashing north american firmware on it to get vanilla honeycomb - also I was told touch wiz is almost final - should be coming for you folks by mid july and it(final version) is quite smooth.
I used a test version ( very laggy) and one other what appeared to be a rc version - (much smoother but not vanilla smooth)

I just hope this tablet gets Ice Cream Sandwich.
samsung is notorious for their lack of updates
To beperfectly honest I bought the tab under the impression that it will be on 3.1 as long as I keep it lol
I wouldn't write them off, yet. Look what they've been doing on Twitter and how they're treating the outside development of their devices.
I mean, at I/O Samsung was one of the partners saying that they would update products up to 18 months from their release, so it would be a violation of a contract with Google if they don't update.
When I talked to a Samsung rep, they told me I didn't have to download TouchWiz if I didn't want it.....but I wouldn't get said bug fixes, Google updates without having TouchWiz.
The Xoom (USA Wifi version) users are having their official 3.2 updates OTA now!
http://tablets-planet.com/2011/07/1...arts-to-arrive-for-some-wi-fi-motorola-xooms/
Where is ours?
I dont even have the 3.1 update for my 10.1v.
Haha
You do realize this is Samsung we are talking about?
It usually takes months if not years for them to generally fix major bugs on their devices. Same for pushing firmware updates...
Sad but this is how it is.

No, we may not see 3.2 officially from samsung this month, but i bet we see a leak of it before the end of august.
Xoom is also Google's flagship HC tablet so obviously they'll always get the latest updates first. Give it time. Maybe we'll have our 3.2 by the time ICS is out

Samsung is doing amazing job in hardware development. They really do but for software support the company simply s*cks.
For example Galaxy S is almost a year and a half old. This device sold more than 10 million units worldwide is one of the most successful smartphone ever and believe it or not it's still waiting to get Gingerbread.
And this is only one example. Almost every Samsung Android phone out there is suffering the same issue. Actually all with the exceptions of Nexus S and Nexus S 4G and that because Google itself is handling the software and pushing updates on those devices.
To make things worst Samsung will push the TouchWiz UI very soon. Which means now they have to make sure Touch UI is compatible with the latest Android version which take even more time. They always take their time to ensure compatibility with their stupid TouchWiz and they ALWAYS end up with extremely buggy results.
As for an early leak, what is the point of getting a beta software to an already buggy device?
If for any reason you believe that Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be an exception for Samsung, please feel free to share. I really like to know it.

I would disagree somewhat. The Galaxy S has been upgraded to Gingerbread on European versions of the phone. While updates for phones in the past have been lagging I would view that Samsung has taken a new approach as of late. The majority of the phones released around the same time period as the Galaxy S line have not received the Gingerbread update either. I would respond to you and ask for another cell phone manufacturer who is doing it better? Also besides zoom to fit (which spare parts will fix) there's not much benefit of 3.2 for us. The update adds zoom to fit, finally enables SD cards on the Xoom, and is more optimized to fit on 7" tablets i.e. 7-inch Huawei MediaPad.
As for Touchwiz I felt V3 was in need of much work (it does appear to be revamped a tad and smoother on the latest Fascinate GB leak) however V4 on the SGII has me sold on it being the default launcher on my phone. It is butter smooth and I love how it is laid out. If you were to poll the majority of Android users on XDA I would wager over 75% are unhappy with their stock manufacturer's launcher. I am looking forward to what Samsung will bring to the table.
I myself believe that Honeycomb is still very "beta-ish" in its current state. It was rushed and is extremely buggy. I think releasing the source code would help immensely as devs could iron out bugs (which they nicely do for Google now on the phone side). However, I do not believe it will be released before a transition into Ice Cream Sandwich.

It's not just about smaller screen tablets. It brings some small bug fixes also:
There is no lag on up side down home screen. Portrait is also better but not much.
Browser seems a little faster and typing a message on XDA doesn't lag as bad as it did on 3.1
I was also planning to buy SGT, but now I'm not sure anymore. I don't want to wait for updates. In this regard, the US Xoom is the best tablet. Only downside is that the US 3G version doesn't work in Europe and i want a tablet with 3G connectivity.
I got the update(wifi Only). Any one have a clue how to access it? Or make Sgt use it? The SD card i mean..lol
There isn't a 3.2 update for Galaxy Tab, and there is no SD card either. Troll somewhere else
I've been a forum reader/poster for over 20 years. Seen many things and read many posts. I know trolls and I know funny.
It's safe to say that the threads that I've read on the XDA forums have the most people with lack of sense of humor than any I've been a part of.
Why is that?
I didn't think it was funny... It was a clear troll post.
Could the 10.1 run 3.2 from the Zoom, or does it have to be made specifically for the Samsung 10.1?
Because supposedly reverse landscape and portrait mode performance are improved, near regular landscape performance.
Thanks for making my point.
