[Q] Signal Trouble, [will donate to whoever can provide a quick solution] - Hero, G2 Touch General

I have installed a new digitizer and now i have no 2G/3G signal and minimal wifi signal.
Please help?

Try a different radio; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622

nothing :/

Try replacing the digitizer again and make sure you do it all perfectly to make sure nothing interferes with your radio.

thats the only thing I can think of is, that when you replaced it, you either caught the antenna, or its been cut, have changed many digitizers before, and have accidently snipped the antenna, Like JieeHD said, take it all out, and start again

I have solved the issue, I replaced the centre chassis during the procedure, it was not apparent to me that the there are antennas built into the centre chassis, these were missing on the replacement part.
I have donated 2 dollars to JieeHD, i would do the same biggary if I had the button available to me.
Buy yourself a pepsi or something XD

Not intrested in the money my friend, you can give me a 'thanks' instead glad you all sorted!

I can't meet the issue,maybe you can wipe all,and re-flash agian..

N1 digitizer replacement

So I bought a digitizer replacement kit on ebay for my N1. (I dropped it and my screen shattered.) I saw the iFixit teardown on the N1 and figured it'd be easy enough to do myself. The kit comes with tools to open it, but no adhesive to mount the new digitizer.(like the iPhone kits)
Basically I was just wondering what I should use to stick the new digitizer back in. Any advice from someone who's already done it would be great too.
Edit: Got the digitizer installed fine, phone booted, I giggled like a schoolgirl aaaand.. Couldn't unlock my phone. It wont respond to touch. Took it apart again to make sure it was connected properly... So now my only assumption is the digitizer I bought was defective.
Any help would be appreciated..
try asking the ebay seller
Thanks, I'll try that. Any other ideas?
maybe ask an electronics repair shop near you

Well I got it installed but it wont respond to touch.. Defective part?
I guess you've made sure it's plugged in right? Would definitely double check that

Yep I did. I contacted the seller on eBay and waiting for a reply. Unless you guys can think of something else I did wrong in the installation I'm sticking with it being defective.
have other people replaced the digitizer successfully on the N1? or perhaps it is some software difference that the new digitizer needs to be "read" by the software, but the OS is looking for the "old" digitizer still...i'm talking out my arse BTW..

I've seen a few people posting here saying they've done it, and I know one guy took pictures of the process. I understand what you're saying and it sounds logical enough, but I can't imagine the parts would be any different to cause that sort of problem.. Assuming the part I bought is legit.
Either way the seller should let me return it if the second one they ship out doesn't work.
i replaced my screen and digitizer yesterday using ebay tutorials i found. pm me and ill share but i bet you used the same ones. its a very delicate process. sometimes you have to be tough with it but at the same time not break the little guy. the only problem i could think of would be your connection. the only thing i fudged on minr was not cleaning the lcd before placing it back in. now i have two large fingerprints in my top right under my screen when i dim it.

I cast... THREAD NECROMANCY!!!
I believe I have the correct adhesive (3M double-sided sticky tape of some small sort), but I'm wondering if anyone has a better idea on how to get the old sticky gunk off of the LCD aside from using rubbing alcohol? Thoughts? Kthxbai.
EDIT: Also, did you ever get your phone working again?

Need assistance w/ DIY A500 Repair (Power Button) *ACER FIXED IT!*

I'll have to take pictures later when I get home so you all can have a better understanding of my problem.
My power button stopped working two days ago (no click or reaction when pressed). I never filled out any of my warranty things & I have no idea what my serial number is. So any who, I opened up my tablet and carefully disconnected the battery and all necessary connectors so that I could see what was causing the button issue. Turns out, the power button switch had disconnected from the circuit board.
I went and bought a soldering iron but after a few attempts I realized that I was going to have to go a different route. The chip itself has five connections to the board and these connections are under the chip itself. What is the best way for me to reconnect this chip to the board? I'm thinking of purchasing some thermal adhesive and seeing if that does the trick since without this part I'm looking at a large paperweight. Any suggestions?
I'd like to help, but without seeing how it actually is I'm having trouble with that. And I don't feel comfortable opening my tablet without a good reason.
Could you perhaps supply a few pictures?

Added two pictures, sorry if they're not clear enough. The whole thing is pretty much trash unless I'm able to repair this or get it to someone that can. People should be aware when they push their power button super hard - doesn't have anything keeping the chip firming in place.

Thermal adhesive might not be the best idea. It's primarily meant for conducting heat, and thus it seems most thermal adhesives are somewhat electrically conductive. In other words you could possibly create a short and fry something.
In theory I agree that using something glue-like substance would be the easiest way to go, but you need to find something that is not electrically conductive in the least and when it dries/cools down that it hard. If it becomes a soft blob you'll find you're still having issues with the switch staying down and connected.
I'd personally still go with soldering it down and then applying something to ensure it stays there, but you'd need a very tiny soldering iron -- like e.g. one used by clocksmiths -- and steady hands. And preferably some experience with soldering something so small.
Your eleven digit serial # is inside the cover of the sd card door, a one year warranty is on all acer tablet, if they cannot fix it they would have given you a new one from the place of purches mine would be staples, i call acer usa all the time, i call today and ask if the 500 will get ICS the answer was when google release the code they will..
I would suggest soldering it, its the only thing that will hold the switch in place long term. They do make a conductive adhesive for electronic circuit board repair, but it is more for repairing boards, not really for attaching components. It wouldn't be too hard to solder it back on, just get some solder wick and remove all the old solder first, then re-attach the switch with new solder. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, take it to your local TV/Electronic repair shop. Since its already out and all they would have to do is re-solder the switch, it probably wouldn't cost too much to do. Although what the other poster said about returning it to Acer to have them repair it is probably the smartest answer. If it does have a year warranty, then that's what I'd do.
Thanks everyone for the advice. Ill get acer on the horn tomorrow to try and see what's what.

I believe once you've opened up your tablet, your Acer warranty is VOID. Sorry.
Any insight as far as how they would know? I called acer last night and was given all the info as far as how to send it back. Hopefully if they notice I did some tinkering, they'll just fix it anyway and bill me or something. I definitely regret panicking about this situation & opening it up when that was totally unnecessary.

There should be a tamper-evident seal underneath the MicroSD/SIM compartment door. It rips when you disassemble the tablet. It is a little black square sticker that says something like "Warranty void if broken" (I dunno exactly, I already removed mine completely). It's hard to miss.

I couldn't find it, looked for a while. I'm going to be sending mine off today. Hopefully they'll just fix or replace it. If they send it back to me unrepaired it's not the end of the world. I'll just count it as a loss and buy a new tab early next year. Definitely wouldn't be another Acer though; that power button connection isn't nearly as sturdy as it should be.
UPDATE:
I sent my device to the Acer location in Temple, TX and received an email from them this morning that it has been repaired and that I will soon be emailed with a tracking number. Hopefully that's true and not just a template response though.
well for those worried about the power button getting lose my electronics firm have used a hich tech substance called hot glue to hold things in place

Did you root, flash any roms on your tablet? I was just wondering because mine has the same problem, power button not working, and may have to send it back to acer for repair. I am a little worried that they would find out that I flashed a rom and would not repair it. Thanks

Yep it was modded in every way. Rooted, Thor rom on it etc. Thing is, they probably didn't know any of that until they'd already fixed the power button. I'll report back on Wednesday as to whether or not they actually fixed it or if they replaced it with another.

If I were you, I'd try Costco first. Especially if you're like me in the way that I HAAAAATE having to wait for things to come. They've had it since last Wednesday and I'll be refreshing the fedex tracking website like 100 times per minute looking for updates.
Gonna go pick it up from fedex once I get off work. Will report back as far as the repair status/replacement. If they did repair or replace, that's a very good showing on Acer's end as far as their product support since I opened the unit and had it rooted.
Ok, looking forward to your reply. I called costco and apparently I was past the return period so I have to send it to acer for repair. Just out of curiosity, did they charge you for anything?

Headphone port stopped working!

I tried every solution but it seems it does not work. My atrix is in warranty but it is bootloader unlocked, will motorola still fix it?
bump, 10 characters
Do you mean an earpiece? If you do, this is a rather frequent issue. A spare part can be found on ebay (~15$). My phone had the same issue, I fixed it by myself
I had this issue as well. and none of the "things to try worked" in my case it was surely hardware. Luckly it was just 50 weeks young... (down to the wire) But called AT&T and they had me do a hard reset and said "yep it's broke" and put one on the way. Since during the unlocking process there is a physical change to the phone you can't undo it. However, there's a few threads on what to do before sending your other one back. / Basically it's wipe wipe wipe and install the fruitcakes. Though it doesn't "re-lock" your phone, it no longer says "unlocked" when you first turn it on. And I think they are to busy to go much past that if even that far...
In my case they said i'd only get a phone, no battery or back and would have to use my own. (no issues there) but they ended sending me everything. So not going to argue with a fresh battery.
Good luck!

Ok thank you, your post was really helpful. Since i bought my atrix from bestbuy, would i contacts bestbuy, Att, or motorola for replacement/fixing?
Is this a common problem?
My headphone port has stopped working too, I was hoping that that was due to a bad flash or something.

Same here. Works from time to time. Mine is definitely a hardware problem. The headphone jack will not go far enough into the hole to make proper contact.

I had this problem and it turned out to be a small piece of lint at the bottom of the headphone jack. A little safety pin removed it and works flawless now.
OP, it is most likely a piece of lint or other debris in the hole, preventing a proper connection.
Try seeing if you can extract anything using a toothpick or something similar.
I have seen this exact scenario before.
I have the same problem but upon analysis I think that I don't have anything stuck in there.
When I peered into the socket it seemed fine, golden sides and some grey (metallic?) thing at the base.

My bad. I had an abundant account of lint. My headphones are working fine now.

Mine stopped working last week. I picked up one of those little bushy tooth floss picks, dipped it in a little rubbing alcohol and brushed away. Works perfectly now, just had debris built up on the contacts.

[Q] I "destroy"ed my Defy, hardware-style

Anyone can help me with this?
I received this Defy from a friend so that means no warranty here :/
I actually wanted to replace the faulty speakerphone of my Defy.
I proceeded to order a speakerphone piece for my Defy, then when it came it had free tools for use as well.
I then went ahead to take everything out, and replaced the speakerphone.
I then realised that the I lost the part near the LED (proximity sensor?) when I pressed the button on the speakerphone part to release it.
I thought nothing would go wrong, so I went ahead to place everything back, including the touchscreen.
But then I tried screwing the screws back again and realised they could no longer be screwed back into place. I took a closer look and saw that the screws themselves had been "circle"-fied from a hexagon shape, probably friction caused it.
Now I am stuck with a Defy that shorts the screen upon accepting a call (but the speakerphone works) and a thin strip in the touchscreen that doesn't work.
Any help?

Yes.....but it depends on which part of Singapore you are at.....
I went to a nearby phone shop , ask for details and they're wanting to charge me SGD$90 for just the touchscreen

about the screws
What i learned from mending and playing with electronic devices is that small screws as seen on a phone are easy to "circle"-fie or destory the thread/scroll. So don't press hard, and as in the video above try to unscrew it without moving the tip of the screwdriver in the screw. Just one turn can damage the screw for good.
Sometimes even if you do it correctly after several screws on/off it gets damaged.
But they are cheap. Saw a US site with phone parts and they had the Defy outer screws for a cheap price. I guess in a service they come even cheaper.
Good luck fixing it.
Out of searching the entire Singapore with my small budget I gave up and sent it for official service :/
But to tell the truth the service centre was quite....umm....dead , 2 workers and only 1 customer when I was there
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace. Problem?

U8800 acts like its possessed!

Hi folks
In the last 3 days, my trusty old phone has begun to act as if it is either possessed or with its own mind.
If I try to compose a reply to a text, random characters appear in the input field and then Attach dialog appears at random. If I try to back out, the text message just gets sent.
In the home screen, the browser is randomly launched with me touching the screen, or the browser icon mysteriously migrates from the dock onto the general screen
I activated 'Show touches' in 'Developer options', and it shows random touches of the upper and mid right-hand sides of the screen (without me actually touching the screen).
It started under Aurora 3.1 Update 5. I tried a complete wipe, but with no resolution. I installed Aurora 4.1, but the problem remains.
As I type this on an iPad, the phone beside me is running mad with the browser opening and selecting random tabs.
I've removed the protective cover to avoid the possibility of pressure from the sides doing a nasty.
Any ideas and advice greatly appreciated.
Naj
I suggest either:
A) Call priest to make an exorcism : p
B) GO into CWM, wipe cache and wipe davilk (just these 2) and flash the aurora release you are using again, on top of what you have.
You won't lose any settings and might help correct some files or systems setting that might eventually got corrupted.
And how this will help?
He said that has already done a full wipe, and flashed Aurora ICS 4.1 clean.
Seems that is a hardware damage.
same happened to me. your touchscreen is broken. i just gave it back and good thing i still have warranty. they replaced my screen for free. and also i had atmel, now i have synaptics. also DO NOT FORGET to flash stock 2.2
btw you know what was really pissing me off? i had random touches around section where the "send message" button was. so when i was typing, it sent every 5 words -.-
Have you tried a different Rom to see if you also have the issue, such as flash a stock version?
Sent from Odin's device!
Looks like hardware problem. I think no ROM will fix this...

Thanks all for your comments.
I guess it is the digitizer. My phone is out of warranty, so it's a case of repair myself or replace. I don't feel like spending money on a new phone, so it's the former for me.
eBay has digitisers for around AUD$25.00. I am familiar with disassembling and reassembling the phone (dropped it into the toilet about 6 months ago!), so this should be a relatively cheap repair.
Thanks again

I'd really like to buy a shiny new one. However, a decent phone will involve either a substantial out-right purchase price or a 2 year commitment with a phone carrier.
Anyway, every phone has its annoyances that make you want to turn it into fine powder! I hear of people disappointed even with the Samsung Galaxy SIII! However the X5 has been okay for me. It recovered well from a previous dunking in the toilet - courtesy of my beloved - and generally works great with Aurora.
I have already ordered another digitizer for AUD$21.05 including tools. If the repair is successful then I have a fully working phone after a very small outlay.
