What is the price of the x1 nowadays?
Is it advisableto buy one now? I need it for my dad. He wants something sturdy, metallic, can run windows and android. Also with a physical keyboard.
What is the future of this device ?

Why does your dad want to run BOTH windows and android? Android for the X1 is still buggy and not recommended as a daily driver

First I would like to upgrade to a newer version of Windows. Second try android.
I installed Froyo V3 and it worked pretty well
forget buying the x1.
winmo 6.5 and android are just ported, and android is still not for daily use. it takes a lot of trial&error to get it running smoothly. trust me, a lot!
if you really want both os - get an htc hd2. (doesn't it run windows phone 7 as well?)
if you need hw-keyboard, get a touch pro 2.
but keep in mind that you'll always buy outdated hardware. and sw-development for winmo 6.5 is deader than dead.
man, remember I live in Uruguay.
X1 is not that old here
that doesn't change anything of what i wrote.
unless you run stockrom (winmo 6.1), you'll always have an unofficial beta-software running. although winmo 6.5(.x) is just as stable these days, or should i say 3 times better than 6.1?
but software? well, you'll never see any of those cool apps for android & ios being officially released for winmo. noone develops for it anymore.
examples: opera -> no opera 11 & opera mini 6.x; microsoft just turned off myphone and market for 6.5; your favourite news-site has such cool mobile-stuff? well, guess which os isn't supported... (and thanks to apple, most sites make good apps, but their mobile-pages for browser are from the stone age)
@hardware:
it's from 2008, 528 mhz. after that came snapdragon 1ghz (1st gen), then snapdragon 2nd gen and currently dual-core cpu's are state of the art. (each generation had a better gpu as well)
and thanks to SE never giving a damn, we have pretty bad hw-drivers as well (compared to htc's phones from that era)
right now i'm running android, but that's just my lazy sunday afternoon fun. it's not for daily use (kernel-issues, only from sd -> slower than flashed, hw-keys stop working from time to time etc etc). it's 10 times better than a year ago, but...
why am i still using this phone?
i want full qwerty-keyboard, but noone's making one i'd buy (high-end). and i still like winmo 6.5.
x1 is amazing
cost 100 bucks on ebay
and i dont what these ppl are talking about but android is faster than some of the roms
it can be used as a daily without a doubt
i have been using android on my x1 as a daily phone for 2 weeks without any issues
thanks

There is no and probably never will be a WM rom for the Wildfire. The wildfire isn't successfully rooted (A review version was but it doesn't work on retail) so flashing is currently impossible so I don't think you can unbrand it for now.
I do know Paul from MoDaCo is trying to root it but we will see how that goes.
Why would you want that? i am just curious.
I like to have it, because all my other phones are with windows mobile.
There are many more programs for wm smartphones...
But the next problem is, that in Germany all wildfires are sold out... it's very anoying.
I've searched for a good thread with android apps - but i didn't find one...
Does it have as much applications as for windows mobile?

I do not know how much the applications for Windows mobile has grown in the last year but I used to have WM 6.1 on my HTC Kaiser.
I find more (free and paying) applications in the android market then I found for WM.
Take a look at appbrain . com
@ s3ri0z:
i dont think so, that all the wildfires are sold out in germany. why i get one today in my vodafoneshop???
it is unpossible to flash a winmob rom to your wildfire. did you tried to run android on a windows mobile phone? its difficult to develop it and so to run it on an winmob device.
and than, the android only starts in windows. it doesnt replace it.
on android you wount get something like that.
Hey s3ri0z,
I'm German myself, so please write me a PM, if there are some problems with the understanding. I'll answer you in German then.
To your questions:
- There exist 100.000+ apps in the Android Market. This is way more then you can get for WM. I have to admit, that if you count all WM-apps together you might find more apps for WM. But most of the WM-apps are old. Lots of those were designed for WM 5, WM 6.1, etc. The only useful WM-apps are those for WM 6.5 and may be WM 6.1, but since Microsoft will launch Windows Phone 7 in a couple month, WM is kind of dying.
My phone is an HTC HD2 and this way I'm using WM-apps for a long time. With the possibilities of an Linux kernel, which was released by the dev's here in this forum, I'm now testing Froyo on my HD2. To be honest, I think Android is the future. It is in many ways better. It's faster, supports flash in the browser and has a huge development community.
- You can get a Wildfire at at least three online stores from now to tomorrow. Try idealo.de or other "Preissuchmaschinen", you'll find a vendor.
- The only thing, which really is a plus for Windows Mobile is the Sync. I don't wan't to share my private data with google. But even there is a solution. Look for companionlink.com and check the USB-version. That should solve all those problems.
Hello guys,
thanks for so many answers.
I looked an a lot of websites with android apps.
There are really many freeware apps - so it's ok to have an android smartphone...
I searched at idealo.com for the wildfire and bought 3 pieces at es-mobilfunk de.
At the shop the delivery date was 3 to 7 days.
After 3 days I asked for the delivery date --> they said it's sold out and I have to wait for an indefinite period... it's very annoying!
Hi there!
- WM has more apps - true. But it got near to 500.000 (for example) apps in nearly 10 years. Android got near to 100.000 apps in nearly 2 year. That means android grows and gets apps faster So why anyone would want wm on his Wildfire? I only missed TCPMP and Worms from wm.
All of the Wildfires isn't sold in Germany or I bought the last one

lol, fail comparison. End up the same amount/year in your case.
But, your point's right
Windows Mobile have around 50k working apps atm. and have been around for like 6 years or so. Android have been around for over 1 year know, lately the apps have grown like ****. It'll probably beet Appstore pretty soon.
But hey! Apps is not all, Android is the (according to me) best system around.
From what I seen of the wildfire in the 3 hours I have had mine it really would not do well with the new windows mobile heavy handed core, the phone is nice as it is and really does not need WM killing the poor thing

i completely agree. had wm devices since 2003 (tomtom was the killer app) but now wm is dying, wp7 will not change this, since as far as i heard it is not backward compatibility at all. this was my reason to go for the wildfire, and i have to say i really like this phone.

Ever looked in Window Marketplace??? There is not much to download...
I also was using Windows Mobile 6.5 and now owner of the HTC Wildfire, honestly, i never want to go back to Windows Mobile! Android is so easy to use and much faster than (for example) WM on a Touch2...
What ever you need can be sownloaded on the Marketplace, and the best thing is...for free!
Dave
Never try torturing yourself. I've just escape from this hell
I used a Touch2 in a electronic market and i felt like riding a turtle after I used my lovely Wildfire. So WM sucks. I only missed the TCPMP and Worms but soon we'll get them
can i have a dual boot with windows and android in the HTC Wildfire ??? and heard that some applets arent supported due to less resolution of the screen… is that true ?? is that a major setback as far as Android market is concerned ??? and anyone tried FROYO on wildfire ???

1. No
2.Sorta, Some apps don't show in the market but you can still download them.
3. Froyo is going to be released sooner or later(Within 2 weeks the rumor goes).
I don't understand why anyone would want to use Windows Mobile over the Android OS. As point of princible to prove you can get Windows Mobile on your phone is one thing... To use it as your phone's main OS is another IMO.
After months of installing custom ROMs to try and just make the Jurassic Park WM OS work like it should I've taken the plunge and ordered an HTC Desire.
It's been a wild ride, and I would especially like to thank Sir Sternas for his custom ROMs that made the phone work as best as it could.
There was huge potential there, but the Mickeysoft OS really let down this great phone.
Now I'm off to explore Android OS !

bye....have fun and report back your thoughts !!!
Installed Android yesterday and it seems to be working fine, so I can choose. Yeehaaa!!!
gonna get my android soon too!
well done, you do that, having used android on the HD2 for a while now im sticking with WM, android offers nothing new except the app stores, HD2, running latest WM 6.5.3 with sence 2.5 flys like you wouldnt believe, zero problems, very stable very good bat life very fast and smooth i really dont know what it is your looking for but good luck in finding it, i suspect its just a case of the grass is greener.....and open source must be better.
and before anyone starts im assuming that android will be quicker, more stable and bug free, but even with those assumptions it brings nothing new.
I love windows mobile to death but its crazy to me how my T-mobile usa G1 never froze on me when I had it, never lagged how much windows mobile lagged and I never faced as much problems like windows mobile but at the end of the day still with windows mobile lol....but hd2 is my last windows mobile phone I will be back to android. Windows 7 looks like an cheap version of the iphone and I feel its a step down from windows 6.5.
P.S: Please don't bash me for my opinion
I flash probably once every three weeks and have dones so for 18 months or more, yet every ROM still feels work-in-progress (and I say that meaning no disrespect to some wonderful cooks). 6.5 is buggy, and sometimes Sense is as well. The keyboard error *still* rears it's head in newer ROMs.
It's ridiculous that I can bash out texts on a 10-year-old Nokia faster than I can on the HD2 - I nearly ordered a dumbphone for this reason today.
I love my HD2. but as we're not married yet I can still badmouth it!
I don't know why people can't positives in both OS's. I personally believe android is more versatile. But I can't seem to pry myself completely away from windows mobile. Cht is amazing and that's what's kept me with windows mobile for so long. Nrg makes awesome roms. So lets just understand that not everyone has the same needs.

BTW, did you check the latests about hd2? android in it? better take a look at it and be patient waiting!

LMAO Now that is funny. Even the most high end android phones lag a bit. The g1 on the other hand lagged a lot, especially when you had large texts chains or a lot of apps installed. I own a g1, cliq, and nexus so I have plenty of experience with android.

Android doesn't provide all the hardware drivers. That's what the developers are working on now for the HD2. You can't just plop Android onto new hardware and think it'll just work. It's not as amazing as that.
Android and WM both have their pros and cons. (I have owned both for at least a year.)

iPhone 4 hasn't been released in Sweden yet. Otherwise, yes, I would have absolutely no business being here if i had the phone, I'm just waiting, I still own the HD2.
hello.
i was wondering, since i'm going to get an htc Tattoo these days, and i saw some clips on YouTube: hd2 running android, hd mini running android, etc. is it posible to put WM on some android powered device...??
i know, iknow, android i so much better than the WM, but i would like to see WM running on, soon to be mine, HTC Tattoo...
Doubt it since the file system for Android is based of Linux.
then y not just buy a WM phone? y buy an android to have windows mobile?
i know where hes coming from i got hd2 and it runs android fine but i still want to keep WinMo but i want to run WinMo as a 2nd OS
WM!!!
That´s the wonder of WM
It is wonderful to be able to switch between OS!!
If in some moment I just thought about moving to Android with this dual boot I´m staying in WM all the way!!

It is actually pretty good and stable. Battery, without very heavy usage, can last you about a day (and I am sure that there are things that can be done to make it last longer). The other device(s) that run Android smoothly are the Vogue, the Kaiser, and the Polaris. Everything works, great battery life, and best of all... very cheap devices (you can get a Vogue for ~$80 on Market Place or eBay)
Now If only I didn't break my Kaiser by standing on it I would have installed android.

it might be wonderful...but not with WM...definitely
and about the wonder of WM...the only wonder is that it can mysteriously and magically crash or get stuck and cause trouble and pain in the ass to the user hehe.
sorry orb but this is getting personal...you and me....we have to argue about this all the way hehe
cheers mate
@fino1: you won't miss anything without WM...trust me..i've been using it since wm 2002 and the android was a relief....although WM is far better, superior and more versatile than java os (mostly used os for mobile telephones) or symbian ,IMO
WM is pure function ...no user experience....in fact user experience is terrible and far outdated, and experience is what does or does not frustrate you
android is more about experience right now,but function isn't far behind,it is slowly catching outdated WM and getting some lead in that race...
first ive heard of this haha
Well.. tbh I second this request.. I believe in porting mutliple OS to 1 Device it just gains more functionality.. I believe it would be quite comfortable to use e.g. Android for browsing & websurfing.. and on the other hand use some neat WinMo Apps for dunno.. maybe some office work or something like that..?

I don't really have any problems on Android or WP7.
Yeah there are SOME not A LOT of bugs, but most of them are fixed for the Android port and the WP7 port isn't really official yet so I'm sure more bug fixes are on their way. Microsoft stopped supported 6.5 a while ago so whatever bugs it had weren't fixed. Maybe to dub it the phone of the decade is a little much, but it's definitely the most versatile phone of the decade.
Ubuntu, Android, WinMo 6.5, WP7, and probably more.

I Don't know about you, but in the latest versions of Nandroid I Didn't have no bugs at all, and in WP7 the bugs the HD2 users experience is exactly what other users of WP7 experience, meaning those are OS issues.
Besides, if i'd have to choose which OS works worst on the HD2, i'd choose WinMo 6.5.
And we should always remember that Android, Wp7, Ubuntu, Meego, and all other OSes that are currently in development for the HD2, are just that, IN DEVELOPMENT.
Thank the devs and try to enjoy =].
yes, im running cyan mod7 ver 2.4 and could not be happier...
ZERO issues.. and as i also stated I have removed most of the system apps and replaced them with better market apps...
with clock work i have backed up the rom and have the a2sd+ partition so i can switch roms directly from my sd card and have all my apps installed right when i boot...I'm coming from a nokia N97 and this phone is just head and shoulders above that...

I was lucky. I bought my HD2 before the developers picked it out for fame and glory. It, unknowingly, became the most hackable phone and I am sure it will remain so through 2011. However, I am wondering which phone will take the crown in 2012 because surely the HD2 can't be the best phone in the world for 3 years in a row.

I want to switch ROMs (used to be a flash-junkie) and when the right Honeycomb build comes along, I will. But I'm just so happy with my set-up I really can't ake myself. Even with it being so easy to drop and restore different ROMs onto your SD card, I'm not even doing it!
And Android is amazing software. Maybe HTC putting 6.5 on the HD2 was simply because every phone needs a flaw, and they couldn't find a way to do it with hardware!
i'm wondering if HD2 prices skyrocket now on ebay. i've heard about many people wanting to buy it because it is cheaper than a desire HD but with the same functions (well, DHD got more ROM but its speakers appear to be really bad)
Phone of the decade!?!?!
We're 3 weeks into the 2nd year of it!!!!!!!
To say the HD2 is the phone of the decade would be a fair statement. No other mobile phone out there is as old as the HD2 and still in the upper end of top smartphones.
And there are endless opportunities! You can use WM6.5 and Android STABLE, WP7 will take maybe 2 weeks and you can use is for daily use... Ubuntu is fully compatible, Meego is also an interesting OS, Ports of every Windows-PC-OS like Seven is usable (there are some errors, but many approaches are here)...
I had an iphone4 for some time and switched back to the hd2 because the iPhone has a big handicap against the HD2... There is not a bit open-source...
With the HD2 everything is possible and thats the reason, why it's imo the phone of the decade!
Best regards
+1. I'm sooo glad I didn't sell my HD2 after I got fed up with WM6.5 and bought a Milestone (that was a mistake -_-).
It sure is the Phone Of The Decade!! Please Support the Best hTC device of 2010.

I always wanted to try the Motorola Droid X but never was available worldwide only as a cdma unit in US.
Personally, the HD2 has undoubtedly won this award and anyone else telling you otherwise is talking up their [email protected]@....
Between the ease of modification and all the different avenues you can direct the phone into, I am hard pressed to find another candidate to dethrone the HD2. Part of the appeal has to be the price. You can get one for less than $200 on Craigslist or for $50 / free on contract with Tmobile. Talk about a jumping off point with next to no startup and and some of the best and most active devs on these forums... You can't lose. Combine that with a big screen, 1ghz (before overclocking) processor, expandable memory, etc etc etc.
I don't think it is pretentious to call it the device of the decade. You won't find a flexible base to build upon like WinMo for a long time.
I don't know if its the phone of the decade, but it is an awesome phone. Got the warranty on mine so I can make sure if it has issues I can keep using it after the 1 yr mfr warranty expires. The only thing that would make this better is a front facing camera IMO.

And?? ...What has that got to do with the price of fish?
Just because its only a year old, doesn't mean it isn't the best phone in the last 10 years. Do you even understand the concept of this topic, its about the past 10 years, not the next!!

his point is valid, but not well interpreted. technically we are in a new decade. ease up, man
hi guys...
I have the Leo for a year or so,
i used to have WM EnergyROM and iit was perfect for me...
and then DFT came and gave us the Android gift, so i've flashed the NAND ROM
and using it ever since... BUT i don't like the idea of "cloud" sh** of the Android, I see no differance in speed, sure it looks better than WM6.5....
but it never felt solid like WM....
now i simply don't know what to do....
Leave it as is and use the Android OS or go back to WM??
i sure need some advice....
I would install Pyramid rom like I did and be happy!
Im happy with my HD2 Using android Pyramid rom with everyday use and its stable nice and solid. P.S. Im using CLK...
having used all three OS's a lot on the HD2, i can give you a fairly good idea of what id do but its very much personal preference.
There is nothing wrong with wm, I personally think its an amazing OS, yeah it doesnt look as good, yeah it doesnt run as fast but its a work horse and will do anything.
the other two OS's, WP and android are two very different kettles of fish, WP is in my opinion the best PHONE OS out there, it has a lot of great features especially around exchange support and social networks. android is a bit flaky in my opinion, but appears to have more "modability" If you dont like the whole idea of uploading to a clould then that only leaves android and WM, in my humble opinion WM wins from a userbility point of view and android wins from a interface perspective (WP wins that if you include that in to the mix!)

mmm food for thought....
personally i'd go for WP7 BUT MS insist not giving me an Activition key they told me to contact HTC for that beacuase "it should be provided withe your new HD7" (MS Israel) i sent mail to MS USA and they told me to contact my local MS service... so WP7 is a dead end for me...
the idea fo giving google all personal information with Android is also disturbing me but there are a very good and usfule apps in it like Whatsapp (that i use daily)...
on the other hand WM provides me a better an much more convinent way of data Sync to my PC and most of the apps that i use on Android can be replaced with equivilant apps on WM exept Whatsapp...
the G-sensors on WM don't work on all apps (like WAZE that i use daily) kind of annoing...
my friend is a Developer he told me that Android works better on the HD2 i don't know how or why or if it's true even thou the HD2 is WM native...
so i really don't know what to choose very confused and tierd of flashing from one to another just becuase "every one use this OS or the other"
honestly i think that when HTC built the HD2 they aimed for WP7 and Windows will always work better on it and Windows is much more convinient for data Sync. no "special" drivers is required or some other tricks just to allow me to connect my HD2 to PC....
Me knowing that there are no more updates for WM6.5.x from MS holds me back call me stupid but it makes me think that this platform is dead (and i know it's not true)
bahhhh very very confused......
I have tried wm, and wp7 and android, and HyperDroidCM7v3.1 is the best ROM for the hd2 that is out there now. Just give it a try and you'll know what I mean ;-) Really.

i'm currently usin it if you look at my sig.
and in my former post i explaind myself about my opinion but yrt kind fo dont know what to do... i thought about dual boot of WM and Android but it's not a solution because i want to use one OS.... not a GAZILION OS's.....
I stuck with NRG WM6.5 on my hd2. Tried android on HD2 & also via HTC Desire with native Android. Android lacked in a lot of areas I needed daily & is in no way a great looking or clever GUI. I use NRG Dinik further modded by myself & it works perfect for me in business & pleasure & is solid & all functions I use & have tested work well, closest a phone OS gets to having a PC in your pocket.
Have very little experience of WP7 on HD2, used it on native handset but not enough to go verbal on opinions.
Main call is down to how you use your device & what you prioritise, unfortunately you are one of the few who are caught with needs that can not come from one OS.
Best you can do is work with the OS that comes closest & resolve lacking apps ect the best you can ...
I am surprised that a whatsapp alternative for WM has not materialised & also surprised the XDA app never went to WM.
WM is not dead & will be in real use for some while yet but chances of new applications & any form of evolution within the OS itself is unlikely. Shame really as 6.5.5 had a hell of a lot of potential, if MS had developed it faster Android could of been unknown & buying or flashing a phone would of been much simpler.

Well, it comes down to a matter of taste really... You prefer WM, use WM. I prefer Android, because it owns everything else.

Android can meet your demands and more. Maybe WM is good enough for you, but give Android a try! I promise you, you will never go back

Because you will likely crash an burn in the bugatti and it will cost you more in the long run.
WM is solid, if the OEMs and networks didnt screw it up so much then it might still be a leading contender today.
as it is, WM is the best SMARTPHONE OS out there, in my opinion WP7 is the best Phone OS out there (android would fit in to this if it wasnt bloated and becoming more fragmented by the week) There is a big difference between Smartphone and phone, and iOS, android and WP do not fit the bill for a true smartphone.

You get my vote, could not of worded it any better.
MS have to take some flack for not developing it faster & reducing OEM derived bugs by creating a base platform that did not need so much modding & stayed more in MS control.
WM is an amazing Phone OS & I find it so wasteful & short sighted on MS to of totally dumped it ...

Indeed WM is the smartest in base platform functionality & closest any phone OS has been to a notebook in your pocket.

is there a way that you can tell me the differance between th OS's WM Android and WP?
exept that Android is LiMO based.. i mean the overall difference...
UPDATE: (1.10 20:45 GMT+2) got back to WM6.5 21916 Energy ROM CHT2.0 4.7.11.... and it feel so GOOD
UPDATE: (2.10 2:33 GMT+2) Restored my NANDroid WM keeps on freezing
Well, I do agree that WM WAS a good OS. Just too bad that both support, myphone and marketplace has been discontinued, just to let WM die a silent death... At least Android is guaranteed to keep up for a long time to come

Have a look at this link (if not done already!)for some comparisons comments on various OS's
If your WM is freezing you need to review HSPL/Radio & ROM build you are using & perhaps apps you install !
The 23699 is my favourite & most stable Energy ROM & the 290xx builds are good if you want newer ROMs (New does not always mean better) ...

No big deal never used it anyway.
I have all personal apps & work apps on my own server archive & also contacts are saved on server & via Gmail so we can access & install anywhere if needed.
Why rely on a 3rd party when you can be in control yourself.
As for Market appeal, personally I prefer sourcing apps originally via good old web searching & checking known bugs & best builds(latest ain't always greatest) ...
If you find installing loads of poor quality apps and never finding favourite version of an app again a great hobby then yes a market is a great tool !
i don't think it's HSPL/Radio ROM since i havn't changed them since last radio rom update (2.15.50.14)
maybe some app (i susspect the XDA_IE_6.1.cab)
and my favorite build is 21916, didnt like that the start is on the bottom bar...
btw when i Sync the Outlook all my appointments nd holydays are duplicated on the HD2 (and i didn't PIM backup before Sync)....

Interesting how we all differ as I find the lower start bar far easier for touch input ...
Have you tried these tools for duplicate cleaning ! never tested them myself but thought would mention them as you might want to review them;
TrineFix
Outlook Cleaner
