hi guys...
I have the Leo for a year or so,
i used to have WM EnergyROM and iit was perfect for me...
and then DFT came and gave us the Android gift, so i've flashed the NAND ROM
and using it ever since... BUT i don't like the idea of "cloud" sh** of the Android, I see no differance in speed, sure it looks better than WM6.5....
but it never felt solid like WM....
now i simply don't know what to do....
Leave it as is and use the Android OS or go back to WM??
i sure need some advice....
I would install Pyramid rom like I did and be happy!
Im happy with my HD2 Using android Pyramid rom with everyday use and its stable nice and solid. P.S. Im using CLK...
having used all three OS's a lot on the HD2, i can give you a fairly good idea of what id do but its very much personal preference.
There is nothing wrong with wm, I personally think its an amazing OS, yeah it doesnt look as good, yeah it doesnt run as fast but its a work horse and will do anything.
the other two OS's, WP and android are two very different kettles of fish, WP is in my opinion the best PHONE OS out there, it has a lot of great features especially around exchange support and social networks. android is a bit flaky in my opinion, but appears to have more "modability" If you dont like the whole idea of uploading to a clould then that only leaves android and WM, in my humble opinion WM wins from a userbility point of view and android wins from a interface perspective (WP wins that if you include that in to the mix!)

mmm food for thought....
personally i'd go for WP7 BUT MS insist not giving me an Activition key they told me to contact HTC for that beacuase "it should be provided withe your new HD7" (MS Israel) i sent mail to MS USA and they told me to contact my local MS service... so WP7 is a dead end for me...
the idea fo giving google all personal information with Android is also disturbing me but there are a very good and usfule apps in it like Whatsapp (that i use daily)...
on the other hand WM provides me a better an much more convinent way of data Sync to my PC and most of the apps that i use on Android can be replaced with equivilant apps on WM exept Whatsapp...
the G-sensors on WM don't work on all apps (like WAZE that i use daily) kind of annoing...
my friend is a Developer he told me that Android works better on the HD2 i don't know how or why or if it's true even thou the HD2 is WM native...
so i really don't know what to choose very confused and tierd of flashing from one to another just becuase "every one use this OS or the other"
honestly i think that when HTC built the HD2 they aimed for WP7 and Windows will always work better on it and Windows is much more convinient for data Sync. no "special" drivers is required or some other tricks just to allow me to connect my HD2 to PC....
Me knowing that there are no more updates for WM6.5.x from MS holds me back call me stupid but it makes me think that this platform is dead (and i know it's not true)
bahhhh very very confused......
I have tried wm, and wp7 and android, and HyperDroidCM7v3.1 is the best ROM for the hd2 that is out there now. Just give it a try and you'll know what I mean ;-) Really.

i'm currently usin it if you look at my sig.
and in my former post i explaind myself about my opinion but yrt kind fo dont know what to do... i thought about dual boot of WM and Android but it's not a solution because i want to use one OS.... not a GAZILION OS's.....
I stuck with NRG WM6.5 on my hd2. Tried android on HD2 & also via HTC Desire with native Android. Android lacked in a lot of areas I needed daily & is in no way a great looking or clever GUI. I use NRG Dinik further modded by myself & it works perfect for me in business & pleasure & is solid & all functions I use & have tested work well, closest a phone OS gets to having a PC in your pocket.
Have very little experience of WP7 on HD2, used it on native handset but not enough to go verbal on opinions.
Main call is down to how you use your device & what you prioritise, unfortunately you are one of the few who are caught with needs that can not come from one OS.
Best you can do is work with the OS that comes closest & resolve lacking apps ect the best you can ...
I am surprised that a whatsapp alternative for WM has not materialised & also surprised the XDA app never went to WM.
WM is not dead & will be in real use for some while yet but chances of new applications & any form of evolution within the OS itself is unlikely. Shame really as 6.5.5 had a hell of a lot of potential, if MS had developed it faster Android could of been unknown & buying or flashing a phone would of been much simpler.

Because you will likely crash an burn in the bugatti and it will cost you more in the long run.
WM is solid, if the OEMs and networks didnt screw it up so much then it might still be a leading contender today.
as it is, WM is the best SMARTPHONE OS out there, in my opinion WP7 is the best Phone OS out there (android would fit in to this if it wasnt bloated and becoming more fragmented by the week) There is a big difference between Smartphone and phone, and iOS, android and WP do not fit the bill for a true smartphone.

You get my vote, could not of worded it any better.
MS have to take some flack for not developing it faster & reducing OEM derived bugs by creating a base platform that did not need so much modding & stayed more in MS control.
WM is an amazing Phone OS & I find it so wasteful & short sighted on MS to of totally dumped it ...

is there a way that you can tell me the differance between th OS's WM Android and WP?
exept that Android is LiMO based.. i mean the overall difference...
UPDATE: (1.10 20:45 GMT+2) got back to WM6.5 21916 Energy ROM CHT2.0 4.7.11.... and it feel so GOOD
UPDATE: (2.10 2:33 GMT+2) Restored my NANDroid WM keeps on freezing
Well, I do agree that WM WAS a good OS. Just too bad that both support, myphone and marketplace has been discontinued, just to let WM die a silent death... At least Android is guaranteed to keep up for a long time to come

Have a look at this link (if not done already!)for some comparisons comments on various OS's
If your WM is freezing you need to review HSPL/Radio & ROM build you are using & perhaps apps you install !
The 23699 is my favourite & most stable Energy ROM & the 290xx builds are good if you want newer ROMs (New does not always mean better) ...

No big deal never used it anyway.
I have all personal apps & work apps on my own server archive & also contacts are saved on server & via Gmail so we can access & install anywhere if needed.
Why rely on a 3rd party when you can be in control yourself.
As for Market appeal, personally I prefer sourcing apps originally via good old web searching & checking known bugs & best builds(latest ain't always greatest) ...
If you find installing loads of poor quality apps and never finding favourite version of an app again a great hobby then yes a market is a great tool !
i don't think it's HSPL/Radio ROM since i havn't changed them since last radio rom update (2.15.50.14)
maybe some app (i susspect the XDA_IE_6.1.cab)
and my favorite build is 21916, didnt like that the start is on the bottom bar...
btw when i Sync the Outlook all my appointments nd holydays are duplicated on the HD2 (and i didn't PIM backup before Sync)....

Why should I flash "googles" Android into my Bad Ass HD2???
No Joke! I need to know what all the fuss is about...
Why you ask? Well for a number of reasons. A search will tell you all of that as im sure this question has been asked over and over lol.
If you need to ask...
Seriously, why don't you just try it? You're not flashing anything. You won't lose any of your current information. I was enjoying the hacked versions of WinMo on my HD2, but now with Android I don't feel I need to ever go back.

Let's be nice. Android is pretty limitless many things can be added. Winmo is sorta outdated. Right now winmo has a lot of community support but that's just not enough. Try it . Dont expect anything and see what you get.
Biggest problem I see is winmo users go into android expecting the same experience.

Funny one
topic: some things are better with android, some arent. I think the interesting fact is to chose the operating system YOU want to use.
You can compare it with the operating system situation on your PC. Some people want to use Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, MacOSX,.....
I think it's a perfectly legitimate question: Not everyone has the love of digital adventures, tweaking or driving someone with more knowledge up the wall we do.
Why not just say what you like about Android? Unless you're not sure....well?
I enjoy reconfiguring my phone. I must have flashed custom WinMo ROM's a hundred times and radios tens of times. Configuring script to put my applications back the way they were, testing the build for smooth operation, stability and features had been a thrill of mine...my hobby, I guess you'd say, since the HD stemming from late 2008.
Android just kind of picks up where Winmo left off. I'm using Elegancia ROM and have been for months. It works great with the Android offerings.
Is Android better? If that's your question, then in my opinion, WinMo is better than Android on the HD2 as of this writing, by Android on this device is catching up incredibly fast.
Maybe you'll like it, maybe not. If your interested enough to chance getting flamed, then you are most likely a candidate to give it a go.
3 simple reasons
1. faster internet browsing
-android have simply a faster browsing experience for me, faster than opera on wm anyday
2. market
-the abundance of customization and application in the android market vs the wm store is like comparing a walmart to a gas convience store for choice of app and avaibility of apps
3. utility
-android simply utilize our screen and hardware much more efficently than windows. try the foursquare app on windows, and then try the foursquare app on android, it's like comparing a dirt road to a 5 lane highway in terms of usability and speed

To the OP: Exactly what everyone else said (apart from infiniteecho)
Try it and see. Nothing to lose except maybe half an hour of your time.
As said above its 'hoarses for coarses'. I wasnt expecting much from Android because Minmo did everything I needed +more, plus it looked ok visually IMHO using CHT etc.
But android just feels slicker somehow...plus I'm not yet missing any of the features that I thought I really loved in winmo. Just the fact of having a good Market is a BIG plus for some people (myself now included although I always thought I'd never care for thousands of mainly pointless apps )....Android is generally a LOT more finger friendly than any 6.5.x build..... the list goes on.
Personally I am becoming a convert FAST. I will almost deffinately switch soley to Android when a proper android rom is released.
Dual booting is great and its always nice to have the option of two O/S's, but I find myself wanting to see Winmo less and less everytime I wake my new Android phone from its beuty sleep I just dont love Winmo like I used too lol.
But the only way you will ever really know is if you try it for yourself go on you (probably) wont be dissapointed.
WinMo stock = sack of **** on the HD2, you have to hack and slash away until you eventually get something that works. Then, and only then can you continue to play around with it.
Android, out of the box it works, and your free to play around with it and make it your own. If it wasn't for Android my HD2 would have be sold.
The touch screen and general Windows Mobile performance just pissed me off, you could triple the power of the HD2 and you still wouldn't get a smooth, slick experience.

i like android because of the limitless apps, you'll never need for anything again for a phone. the market was the main reason for me because most apps are free, now google maps include free navigation! windows mobile who? lol plus even with android being ported to our hd2 it out performs windows mobile, less freezes and errors. programmed to work better! internet browsing, smoother and faster. once u learn all the features and how to use widgets u will like wmo less and less. i never seen myself becoming a fan of android when i was solely against it when i had touch pro 2
Me??? Because WinMo is Sh*t. If I couldn't have loaded Android on this HD2... it would have been on Craigslist an hour after I got it.
Unless of course bloated, clunky, slow, crashing, lack luster garbage is someone's thing... l would advice them to stay away from Android.

WHY A WM USER WOULD WANT ANDROID ON HIS/HERS HD2?
1. generaly a wm user doesn't like iOS (iphone). and android is in so many ways similar to ios
2. i can't find something that android could do and wm couldn't
3. i can't see any difference in speed or smoothness between wm and android
4. i can agree that the amount of applications or games is definetely higher on android, but one can find basicaly anything he/she wants also for wm
so, please guys let me know why do you want android on yours hd2

Well i asked this question myself a lot!
Even if i'm running on Android for 3 weeks now and i didn't use WM since than; it is still not easy in my opinion to answer it!
I've done it just for curiosity and for change!
All i can feel is that it's more stable and that is what i'm interested in a phone! I don't like freezes or crashes and as you said anyone can find whatever he wants in any OS... As for speed and smoothness yes they are really the same...
Thing is... since you can have both with no problems at all, why not have both?
You get the stability and efficiency of Windows Mobile for daily work, including Office Mobile and other features Android doesn't have, and then you have Android with its huge application pool for more "fun" uses.
Windows Mobile = professional tool.
Android = kid's toy
For now at least - Android is still way to instable and also, even worse, way too power hungry to be used professionally on a HD2. I need to be able to use my phone intensively all day long without having to recharge after a few hours because the battery gets drained big time.
Android is just better, even with some bugs.
+1
for me the mail app and the google sync is miles apart from the rubbish windows dishes up
I really don't like HTC Sense and I find WM 6.5 ugly, cumberson and very un user friendy
Added to the fact that the app store is miles better than Market place the apps and widgets are generally of a very high standard and most are free...
I will never go back to Windows mobile now, completely hooked on android ..

mail app and google sync - nonsense as wm has exchange and myphone for sync.
interface ugly - that's a question of taste, but you can personalise your interface in so many ways. take for instance maxsense or spb mobile shell. android interface is so iphoneish...

this is not a flame attempt is just an honest question
thank you all!
Personally Its about looks and widgets.
I know It sounds odd but I hate the look of winmo.
I also dont like having to scroll through a bunch of different screens when I can have a screen with a bunch of different info on it.
Sense on winmo comes across as a big hinderence. Only thing that made winmo bareable to me was cht and even that drove me crazy.
I always say this but as a user of all three os I am just more comfortable with android than anything else.
So i guess I would not consider myself a winmo user. I bought the phone with the intent on using android at some point.
It is hard to get people to adjust to something different. Most avid winmo users will say they like winmo better. Most avid android users will say that like android.
It all boils down to what you like.
If someone has always used intel and you get them to buy a amd when they get a virus they will blame you for suggesting the amd. I know this because I work retail. I have learned not to let my feelings or judgements get in the way.
So I say if you like winmo stick with it.
Old winmo is dead hopefully windows phone 7 can be ported to the hd2. Otherwise those who like winmo will be stuck doing it old school.
I'am waiting for the Motorola Defy. ;-)
I find the HD2 with WM also good. But i'am curious.

As for why people dont flat out buy a android phone.
I am a t-mobile user. I do not wish to use sprint or verizon so that limits the number of phones I can use with the very large 4.3 inch screen.
We arent getting the Desire hd here in the Us. and frankly the samsung captivate is too small and missing led flash.
google 2 nexus 1 mytouch slide screens are all too small!
price is also important. If someone already has an hd2 why spend more money on a new phone when you can use android.
buggy as it maybe its pretty dang fantastic.
Turn by turn gps in Google maps is great. Windows mobile is dated. Looks basically the same as it did 8 or 9 years ago. It was designed to be used with a stylus and android was designed for touch. I don't know why people say android looks like i OS, it really looks nothing like it with widgets instead of page after page of apps.

I agree sir I truly agree. I cant stand Ios personally.
Windows is unstable, it crashes at least once or twice a week without any heavy usage.
I went back to the HD2 after owning an iphone for 18 months, I didn't like the way apple control everything so went back to Windows and regretted it ever since. The iphone required maybe three or four reboots in 18 months.
Now I'm running Android on the HD2 and rarely drop back to windows for anything.
There are certainly problems at the moment with Android on the HD2, these will be overcome (remember these are really just beta versions at the moment) relatively quickly and we will have a stable operating system that is highly configurable and far far superior to Windows.
I'm using mdeejay_froyo_sense_v2.1a_ppp with a 2.12 radio and stock 02 uk Rom. I still lose signal occasionally with this release but no screen freezes after a week of heavy use. For me it is now more stable than windows.
guys, this is not wm vs android
please remember the question - Why do you want Android on HD2?
you all bought hd2 as a wm phone, so i find it odd that you say so many bad words about wm. did somebody twist your arms to buy hd2 or did you chose it freely?
i completely disagree with the guy saing wm is instable - on my hd2 i use custom roms and they are extremely stable (nrgz, miri&steve, indie to name just a few chefs)
turn by turn - almost any gps sofware has it
and wm may be outdated but on hd2 is very finger friendly. i don't see the need of a stylus no matter what i do
where i live a second hand hd2 is selling for 3-400Euros. with that money you can buy a samsung galaxy s - same size, even better technical specs
and yes, bing has speak search. in the home page you will see a small microphone icon. press it and the speak what you are looking for and wait for the magic
and as i said before, you can customize your interface in so many ways...
so, again, why android on hd2?
thank you!

We arent bashing windows mobile. These are our reasons as to why we want android on the hd2. A lot of regular users I know have had horrible experiences with the hd2. Most of the people I speak with hate the phone. The fact that they have winmo on the phone matters not to them.
You must have by passed the fact that I said the galaxy's screen is to small for me. Yes .3 inches matters and the fact that the galaxy s doesnt have led flash for camera's is a major kill
Like I said I chose it freely to put Android on it. When i got my phone The nexus 1 was the only android phone with decent spec's. Frankly the 3.7 inch screen is too small.
Why, because i can have Android on it, that's why

please , how many clicks does it take in
wm/android
from lockscreen to enable wifi and go back to homescreen , 5/2
how many clicks does it take to disable orientation and go back to homescreen 6/1
how many clicks does it take to adust brightness and go back to homescreen 6/1
how many clicks does it takes to download email and fb updates after a successful wifi connect and go back to homescreen 6/0
cht may improve theese values ... but gimme a break with questions like theese , u do not deserve to run android on ur fone if u ask somthing like this
Honestly What is the point behind this question other than you just wanted to ask.
And while I do respect that you wanted to I ask I cant but wonder what you expect.
Each one of these members has a reason for wanting or not wanting android.
You really should consider accepting peoples reasons.
as you said I am not flaming I am just stating what I see.
I look forward to your response.

Remember Windows mobile does have toggles and widgets
wait i know for sure it has toggles but widgets Im thinking not very many not that I could find anyway.
Hey Guys, i'm new here and would like to know what the best OS for the HD2 is (in your opinions).
After the default Win 6.5 i tried Android and i liked it very much.
So what do you Guys use, and like most ?

I don't think another one is necessary
WM6.5.x Energy ROMs, 23699 being my favourite.
Android is a long way off from what I need & comes not even close to custom WM with a user who has educated himself from XDA forums.
thx, did not find it with the keywords "best os"
Android hands down, never liked WINMO ever!
and is there any special build, that is wroth to name it ?
As far as best os without any issues, as much as it pains me to say so I would have to go with wm6.5 especially if you're just starting out and don't really know how to work on your phone yet. But once you do get a little bit of knowledge behind you I would give it to Android. I've been using NAND as my daily driver for months now
Win mo for day to day os and android for weekends on sd card. They are 2 of the best os currently available. Win 6.5 blows anything else for customization. Android comes a close 2nd especially with cyanogen mod.
Love them both long live hd2
I'm using android as my daily OS now...WM6.5 with energy ROM+CHT is excellent...but i think HD2 runs better with Android, especially GB.
Android's the best for me

Yeh that's what happens when your a fandroid user, can't keep up to date as your platform is a backward muddle & you've slowed your device down by downloading all those two minute developed trashy apps ... lol
Android is ok, have a Desire kicking around but it does not work well as a daily runner for me.
Somewhere between the 2 platforms would be the perfect OS !
ok thx guys, i'm gonna try some android roms

It runs no where near as smooth as my current WM ROM setup & I have tried it & also on a native device, won't really notice the difference in term of Microsoft support as we haven't had much help from them over the last 6 years. The amount of quality professional applications for Android is still very limited as for the market, not into that Apple idea, I found all I need via XDA & good web searching & 8 years experience with the platform.
At this current time I could not perform my work tasks via Android hence why my Desire is a toy & paper weight on my desk.
With more platform & professional application support Android will be as good as people boast about at the moment but that takes time & that is why WM still can hold its own ground in the professional user market.
androooooooooooid only android

The score may say andriode but it is not a true reflection of wich OS is better. Win Mo comes out the box more functional an ready for use then Android. Eindows is a stand alone OS where if it was no Lenuix it would be no Android. Everyone likes Android because it runs smooth out the box, but if you use a custom Win Mo ROM it is just as smooth if not smoother than Android.
Now this is partially do to the lack of Microsofts support for Win Mo but tbey have been to busy developing the stupid and redundant WP7 is why. Why is this because people are to lazy to actually spend time to learn how to use Win Mo and how capable and useful it is. Andriod to me feels like a very trimmed down version of Win Mo to me. I mean you have an app tray and thats it, atleast with Win Mo you can organize apps as you want. The Android home screen if cool but install Cookies Home Tab on Win Mo and you have a better home screen then any Android device or ROM. Heck I even prefer the HTC Sense UI in thd stock ROM over Android home screen. I can not no matter how many apps I search for in the Android matket use Android as a literal extension of my home or work PC. As far as apps go hey the apps or out there but once again I go back to people being to lazy to search for them as they are not all in one place. I call that being true open sourced as anyone can make a app for Win Mo. But if Google does .ot like your app it will never be on the market or get pulled from the market. Sure you can still side load it but if it messes up your device there goes your waranty. Besides I have tried a ton of Android apps and what good are apps tbat only do one thing or 500 of the same apps I mean really. Oh and just incase someone wants to mention flash, flash only works on the default Android browser does that really make it flash capable? In short give me a Win Mo and a Android device and I am going with the Win Mo everytime. So have fun with playing with Android while us Win Mo users are actually using or devices to be productive.

I agree for business winMo is better.. winMo is just as smooth and stable when ROM'd...
with android.. i cant find a CALENDAR (not a stinkin tasker) that will allow notes IN a meeting BEFORE AND AFTER its occurrence.
i cant adjust screen sensitivity
i cant sort my apps
i am limited to # of home screens...etc etc
the market charges for foolish things that should be free like solitaire.
1/2 the games dont work universally or across droid versions (2,2 2,3).
flash is an afterthought.
the office emulation is not very good either.
android will take off when it gets the basics down pat.. in the mean time its a toy like the Iphone... but at least better with the sd card slot
Good accurate replies, Android hit the big sales by targeting the main Mobile market. Windows was alway first a profesional choice or geeks toy.
Windows is far better in the hands of a capable user who can set it up well & thus that is why I am still using it.
Hi.
I really like WP7 and I think it fits our HD2's, yet WP7 is very immature.
For the people who are planning on moving to WP7 instead of Android, what is the milestone you are waiting for?
For the people who are not planning on moving, what are the main reasons?
Currently, I'm waiting for Mango final and a very specific application - Whatsapp.
I realize there are alternatives, but most of my friends with iOS and Android are using Whatsapp.
Anyways, its not Whatsapp as a single application, but a maturity of WP7 as an OS...
Are there any other crucial issues you think should be resolved before WP7 can be used as a main OS?
i think hd2 will get ports from future matured releases of WP7 (at least for some time).
since my hd2 is not just a phone, i am not willing to consider moving on to native WP7 devices. if i can go for multiple OSs and play with all of them, why on earth i'd limit myself to just one?
but, tmo, if u'r phone is just a phone to make calls or browse internet, native WP7 is the choice for u.
but for me.. NO. i think i'll keep my HD2
point is, i dont need to chose between WP7 and android. i can keep both.

The OP didnt say anything about getting a native WP7 device, He was referring to using WP7 as main OS on your HD2.
@ OP
I'm contemplating keeping WP7 on my phone permanently since I can still play with Android on my Tab. I really like WP7, yes its not android (which is a great os) but its a great OS itself and runs really smooth.
I'm using WP7 on my HD2 and love it. I think WP7 is better than Android and the mature issue is getting less of an issue every day: apps are showing up every day.

It's the only os I use & only os I would use. Not a fan of Android, so that's not an alternative. WM was great for its time, but let's face it, that time is done. WP7 is the only os for me!

dont say that!!
WM may be the ugly sister that even her parents didnt want but its a beast of an OS, there is nothing and there is unlikely to ever be an OS that can do as much as WM can. yeah it looks crap, an runs crap, but it wins hands down in every other aspect. I'd love to dual boot WM and WP, but as it is Im running WP on my day to day device and WM on the backup device, WP is so much better with the UI it just makes using it plesant, I'll not be moving back but im also unlieky to ever trully leave WM either. Droid had a look in for 6 months before WP but got board with it.
Lol, I agree WM is a beast & very friendly to us super user types. Don't get me wrong I loved it when I used it. But now I'm completely hooked on WP. But when I get a native WP I'll switch my HD2 back to WM so I can tweak it again for fun. ^_^

I really really want to move to WP7 as my main OS however my biggest tidbits need to be fixed before I will do such. Mainly, no customization of ringtones/alert sounds (without sideloading apps, etc.)
I don't know if they corrected this in Mango but when I add my 15 year old Live ID, it intergrates all my contacts from that ID into my contact list. Same with Facebook!
I was a die hard fan of WM and Android is ok but not where my heart is. WM had lots of raw power and after playing with WP, it is really something I can see myself using.

Facebook contacts can be removed if you dont already have that contact in you lists
I will stay definetly on WP7, I wanted to try Android, but then I heared that they are a lot of security vulnaribilities in the OS.
Aswell Apps in the Marketplace contain Malware, so I don't want to play roulette with my device...
Asking for live id and cant able so stuck back to android

im new to this, and it's my first reply on this site. and sorry if its a late reply.
i am currently running MIUI android and i love it! it's perfect for my HD2 and i am having no problems.
a few times i have flashed WP7 with 'ok' roms (not perfect) and loved it - even though i couldn't get live services and market activated.
ALSO...in the process of switching between android and WP7, it has really messed up my SD cards - even when using different ones for each OS.
but just like you, i can't live without whatsapp as i use it everyday without fail. so does anybody know if it's going to be possible to get whatapp on wp7? and i m not really following wp7 on hd2 so what stage is it at now? like stable, lots of bugs, or is there a perfect build out there?
I'm watching how Mango goes before I make a final call. Some of the features I'm looking for are hidden SSID support, SMS/call backup&restore, wifi hotspot. I use those features a lot so if they're in Mango like I've heard they are then I'll probably switch my HD2 to being a WP7 device full-time.
I have a handful of apps that I bought in Android that it looks like I'd need to re-buy but it's not more than ~15 dollars (USD) worth so I'd be okay with it.
I would move to wp7, but no wlan hotspot, no using wifi android tablet.
When I get drunk, I pull out my blackberry and trying to do anything is just a mess.
When I pull out my WP7 it makes me so glad, honestly that I can use my phone when I am drunk.
I'm actually going to test out WP7 soon and Im really hoping that mango turns out to be a success

That being said, having used both:
Android - more tweaks, more apps but also more babysitting to keep it running well; there are 4G phones. Prepare to use task manager, worry about malware and so on.
Windows Phone 7 - less tweaks, less apps, but it "just works". Also, the UI rocks it, designed to be more than just a launchpad for shortcuts. No 4G phones yet. T-Mobile is coming with first phone with front facing camera.

Using a task manager is the single worst thing you can do with android, android handles ram in a totally diffrent way to windows, infact the less free ram, the better android runs.

I have been searching for a thread like this to clarify some doubts I have about both platforms....noob here guys so be gentle.
I believe there are some widgets in Android which could provide you a similar feature...i.e. a single glance overview of calls/ appointments/ msgs etc....I also believe this is part of the OS and not a separate app...doesn't this make both equal, featurewise.
I feel that WP7 has the best UI compared to iOS and android.... but the lack of file management and missing USB outlook sync (which is the only reason I'm still sticking to WM) is my biggest worry. I understand there is work around; but I think this is a major drawback.
People who have used both Android and WP7, can you pls share how the lack of these features in WP7 affects day to day usage (mainly business use). Do you feel its worth adapting to the new routine for a smoother user experience (and a promise of further improvements) or the sensible thing is to just sacrifice the cool UI for all the other benefits of having a flexible platform (not to mention some terrific hardware)
Thanks for your input folks....
Android gives you customization and flexibility, but lacks the easy of use that the windows phone ui gives you.
Both are very much usable day by day, but as you've pointed out, the new windows ui is not flexible, and you'r out of luck trying to sync it to outlook, maybe with CompanionLink.
I prefer android
Thanks for the reply.
Anyone with good knowledge on MS know if this situation (USB outlook sync) about to change in further revisions of WP (Tango / Apollo)

That is a feature that will not be added back into the Windows Phone lines. Knowing some of the people on the WP7 team, it's been complained about, but will never seen as a feature in that mobile OS family.
It's an archaic technology, and with the advent of high speed mobile data and wifi hotspots so available for when cell service isn't, it's not seen as a priority to even be considered.
