I agree with you, but the Ace looks like its going to have the poor Snapdragon (with crappy GPU), and the Galaxy S is great hardware wise, but i can't get over the look.

games mainly. i've seen some of those comparison vids on youtube between the nexus one and galaxy s. The difference is huge. And now that android is booming we're going to see much more demanding 3d games and im scared im going to be left in the dust if i get one of those "outdated" snapdragon phones. If HTC upgrades to the newest snapdragon line then i'd be ok wit that.

My friend stopped over with his iphone4. Checked it out. He should my a unreal engine demo of a game coming out for the phone. Jealous for my first time.. amazing graphics. Anyone heard or seen this? Maybe will come to our phone or can put it on our phone.

The EVO's graphics abilities are pretty weak compared to the iphone 4. The Snapdragon processor can only do about 22 million triangles per second. The A4 can do about 90 million.

I think you're a little mixed up. The PowerVR SGX 540 in the Galaxy S phones can produce 90 million triangles per second. The iPhone 4 uses the PowerVR SGX 535, same as the Droid X. Still an impressive GPU (source: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3794/the-iphone-4-review)
Unfortunately, the iPhone has always had a somewhat decent GPU for its time. That's why it gets all the intense 3D apps\games. Android is JUST now seeing decent hardware. Backwards compatibility for graphically intense apps would be TERRIBLE on our platform, mostly due to brand new phones like the EVO still shipping with crappy snapdragons...

Some of us didn't buy the EVO to play stunning 3d games or gaming period, I have an xbox for that or I just would have got an Iphone. Me neither, and it's pissing me off. I love both phones but you don't see threads in the Epic forums bashing the EVO. Some people who bought the Epic actually feel the need to defend it because we want OPTIONS on android, not 15 EVO clones.
I'm not sure if your talking about me or the Guy with the third post. I'm not bash evo and love this phone. Also I'm not really into gaming on a phone just that unreal engine sparked a interest in actually gaming on a phone. But I still don't see myself gaming on a phone anyways even how it looked and played. Was just seeing if it could work on the evo. I'd be more interested if it played and looked that good on a 4.3 screen.

You are missing the point completely...
The point is not the fact that people bought an evo over an iPhone to 'play games' its just the fact that both PHONES are completely different in these departments. While I agree with you that I also did not buy an Evo to play video games on it, I see the goldmine that is there for developers to create games on the Apple platform. If you see some of the games that are coming out for the iPod/iPhone they look like Xbox graphics. Absolutely ridiculous that a simple phone can do that. While I enjoy only paying $77 after taxes for an Evo 4g, I admire Apple for creating a phone that has an absolutely superior processor. Both phones are great, but the iPhone has much superior hardware - that is why you pay the premium for having it.
OMG you payed $77? I shelled out the whole 450 just to get off the dreaded Samsung Moment. I wasn't going to wait till March to upgrade.

I know its the same ****ing phone cept the nfs chip and whatnot but its worth it. Despite how well android is doing against ios only the google handsets should be compared to ios handsets or anything else. Personally, I'd wait for a Cortex-A9 / Next-gen Snapdragon from Sprint. While the Nexus S will get the latest updates quickly, it's still "last-gen" hardware.
CM7 is getting ported right now, and once they get CM support, we're likely to see other CM ports happen pretty quickly, particularly since having a CDMA + WiMAX Nexus S will make for easy ports.
I'll stick with my hardware keyboard, and when Sprint drops a dual-core beast, I'll pick that up. Either that or wait until the next Nexus phone... I'm patient.
That's the wonderful thing about having unlimited updates, I don't have to wait

My epic performs pretty close to tegra2... not to say its the same for gaming but in single core apples it holds it own extremely well. even the gpu comes close. I personally love having dungeon defenders, a couple of gameloft titles and an army of emulators but lets face it... they all work extremely well as they are now. Even with all that i barely touch those games. i have a psp and prefer to play emus on there. Like having a xperia play in some ways... either i game on that or game on my 360 or ps3.. so then comes the question specific to my usage... do I REALLY need dual core versus wanting it. I want it.. but I definitely dont need it. i can see the tablets needing dual core in some ways but other than gaming what other apps could POSSIBLY need that much cpu power? I think dual core is unneeded for atleast another year or 2. Anyone remember what dualcore cpus and quadcore cpus were available for pcs? Those quad cores are just NOW being taken advantage of. I dont see any android apps really needing 2 cpu cores to function properly for the next 2 years. Nexus s here I come lol.
Also dont forget the fact that these gpus are barely being tapped into now.. look at the xperia play. Its rocking adreno 205 and some of the games ive seen look better than anything out in the android marker OR gameloft right now. Not atleast until epic games finally decides to release epic ****ing citadel for android will I see the true potential. **** the iphone 4 is rocking the same gpu in the evo and can still pump out epic citadel at 30 to 40 frames a sec. Now imagine whats possible with the powervx540 currently in these phones that can achieve over 90/mil triangles versus the i4 and evos 15 to 20. that says a whole ****load for me.

I prefer the epoc over the nexus s. Lets face it that devices booty is fugly. Nexus s back has samsung written all over it. If the epic 4g was pure google id laugh at the nexus s. Epic still the best sgs handset imho

Incorrect. The D600 device will have TouchWiz, the Nexus S 4G is D720.
Considering the flak (well deserved) that Sprint has received over their delayed updates, it makes sense that they are releasing a Nexus device, because Google will handle all of its software and updates.

I am a samsung galaxy s2 owner, i am contemplating switching it for the xperia play.
however i am in 2 minds i'm thinking to wait for the xperia play successor, which will be a improvement, if there is one that is.
at the mo it looks like xperia play is a disappointment & SE might scrap it.
On the other hand what about the playstation suite certified sector they have recently opened which the xperia play and 2 others tabs are promoting,
does the play have a future.
whats your recommendations guys?

If you want to buy a phone, whichever it is, you must buy it for what it can do now. The Xperia Pay allows you to play games and emulators better than any other phone. It's not state of the art tech, it doesn't have an orgasmic screen, but you can destroy people in multiplayer FPS at your liking.

Depends what you like to do with your phone.... Touchscreen gaming??? Give me a break.... That's like using a computer without a mouse... Yea its possible with just keyboard but not the best experience. Dual core phones that are out now are fast but by the time they start optimizing good games or programs to dualcores, the quad will take over. You can't chase technology unless you are getting a new phone every 6 months. Get the play now if you are a gamer, i promise you would love it. And if you are not a gamer, get a nokia flip phone. It makes calls and texts without dual core, and the battery lasts more then a week without charging

There might be a successor there might not? Either way it won't change the experience with the sexplay. It really won't make any difference at all cause it's in the future and if you can't appreciate what you have now and keep chasing the newest and presumably best you'll never enjoy what you have. It's a gamers phone and that's it's purpose and it does its job really good. If you're not that much into gaming there's better phones out there that will suite your needs.
The sexplay as a phone alone is ok and as a gaming phone just plain awesome. It can the things most other android devices can do and then it just tops it with a gamepad.
I defo wouldn't wait for a successor i would by now and then trade in for the next sexplay when or if it comes.
I think it will come and i already think this device is a sucsess.

Personally I'm glad that SE had enough decency to at least ship the thing with Gingerbread...look at Motorola and LG. And you're 100% correct about being happy with what you have. At the rate new Android phones are being released we're likely to have a phone with a Sandy Bridge i7 by next year.

Agreed. Weak display and low app storage hurts the Play, compared to the SG2.
That is unless old school gaming is about 80% of what the OP wants. Then the Play is tops.
don't see why everyone is giving out about the Play's display, apart from the brightness I think it's beast!
There is nothing the s2 can run that the play can't... That's all I gotta say. There isnt a need for a successor if this one can run everything out there.

Let's be honest guys, it is all about the gaming with the Play. The screen is not super AMOLED, granted, but I have no problems with it, even in sunlight. No phone is great in bright sunlight, so that argument is a non starter really. Dual core? No, but like the PC world, how much software is currently being written to exploit this, there can't be much yet, surely? It's horses for courses. You want a big display, don't get the Play. You want a physical keyboard, don't get the Play. You want a brilliant gaming phone, not just contest, get the Play.

App storage is not a problem if you root your phone, and even if you don't It will still hold a lot of Apps if you manage it properly. Most of the time people behave like kids in a sweet shop, download every app they think they might need and only use a small subset of them.
The screen on the Play is the best of the bunch of my phones.
I thought I would be playing mostly emulated games but I have been pleasantly suprised by the support GameLoft & others are giving to the Play.
If you like playing action games on your smartphone there is no alternative to the Xperia Play on the market.
Infact the phone is very snappy Android Phone.
And I came to the conclusion that the Evo 4g is the best phone ever invented. It does everything. I have been rooted and currently left sense due to battery life. Deck 1.2.1 and sz 2.2.1 cfs SBC is the best I have ever run. The Evo offers full HDMI, 4g, great wifi, amazing battery life, I just found out I can connect a wii remote and play my nesoid and mirror any game and play 2 players w my daughter on the big screen. From a capability standpoint I have given up. There is no other phone on the market that offers me these features. Sure. Dual core. I could care less. My old Evo still rocking 1700s quadrant (for those that care) and linpacks 40+. I don't have it maxed out all the time. Lol it just works.
I Only started this thread to tell the community thank you for making/helping my Evo stomp ass on every smart phone that has challenged it! You the community have never asked me for a donation. Never begged for money. And always help when I need information.

And this, I believe, is why HTC doesn't want to unlock the bootloader. Look at how many people just on this forum have started looking at other phones after they got stuck being unrooted. HTC doesn't want you to love your EVO forever; just until the newer model comes out. The developer community for the Supersonic has been amazing, and breathed a whole new life into the phone long after people were supposed to be getting tired of it.

That's a good point. A friend of mine just got the 3D. He came from a Windows mobile phone. He has been going on and on about it but the stuff that he likes are things that I have had on my rooted EVO for a while. I think his excitement is Android based and not based on that particular phone. I have compared mine and just can find enough reason to switch before I see what the development looks like. My rooted EVO is only a small step behind the stock 3D, IMO.

I'm assuming HTC wants people to upgrade to either the 3D or the Kingdom when it releases as the Hero 4G under Sprint.
Rumor has it that the Kingdom will be a tad cheaper than the 3D. It's basically an Evo with a bigger screen and a worse camera but better hardware specs. It seems like it will be Sprint's new flagship model for some time and will probably be used to tempt all the people that are still happy with their Evo 4Gs out of hiding.
If the Evo 4+ makes it to sprint, that will be the one I am interested in...but only if I can have what I have now. I could only consider it a downgrade to go to a phone that can not do what my current phone does...really not interested if its faster...if it can't do all I have now damn the Evo is nice. I really can't think of another phone that after rooting can do. ALL the things I'm allowed to do due to the amazing development teams

Although it's a little ridiculous to say nothing matches it. Lots of phones do now.... My g2x does everything my evo does, except instead of snesoid on the big screen via hdmi and a wii mote, I'm rocking n64oid at a solid 60fps. Evo can do it all, but adreno-200 is just not capable enough for my wants anymore.

I don't go for the conspiracy theory that THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO LIKE YOUR PHONE. This is nonsense. The more you like it the more HTC phones you will buy, and the more you will recommend it to friends. The locking seems to be due to carrier pressure, because the carrier pays for the tech support calls when people screw them up when rooting, overclocking, etc. You call HTC with a screwed up phone and they will tell you to call Sprint ;-)
Just yesterday, the Evo3D root came out, and the instructions led many hundreds of people to have to call tech support to get the phone connected to the network again! This is no joke, I was one of those who called. One of the rooters asked the Sprint rep, and he said he had personally gotten close to 70 calls just yesterday with the same "Error 16" issue due to the new root procedure!
Beyond, that, I agree, EVO 4G rules. I got a 3D, and I do not like it as much as the OG.

I have never owned a g2x. I merely made this post because I feel it is the best well rounded phone for all my needs. HDMI mirroring really makes this shine. The wiimote app only gets used occasionally but still very sweet and it works just like I have a damn old school nes haha. It just fits me and HTC locking bootloaders lol. They will eventually get unlocked. Not a big deal. Then we will all forget about the 3 weeks spent with a horribly locked 3d/sensation lmao.
