So a lot of ROMS are now offering sense 3.0, but is this the real sense 3.0 or is it just the widgets from it and the on-screen? I amusing synergy right now and it says under HTC Sense 2.1, so I'm kinda confused. Is it just this Rom that doesn't have the full sense 3.0 or is it standard that the ROMS only have the sense 3.0 widgets? Thanks

Because the newer Sense versions take up more system resources and space people have made hybrids.
So basically, if sense 3.0 would be ported in its entirety it would bog down our phones? That doesnt sound good on HTC's part...

You wouldn't be able to fit many apps due to its size and yeah, it really wouldn't run very well without tweaking.
Not really "HTC's fault" as much as it is just progression of software.
The Evo is "old" technologically speaking.

That's why HTC hasn't released it for our phone. How is it their fault if the ports don't run as well on older hardware?

this is true but it isnt even so much htc as it is sprint sprint and htc decided to not even give us official 2.1 sense which was pretty ****ing pathetic on their part lol
There are, from what some of the thread titles say, some pure 3.0 ROMs. Not sure how well they work or if they are %100 3.0. But like others said Synergy and MikG are 2.1 + 3.0 hybrid apparently based off the Evo Shift releases.

ok so i bought this phone thinking it was the newest sense ui available. Well it might be i am quite confused! i goto the new sense website to try to pair phone and site but some of the features it says are built into the new sense are not on my phone! also the mt4g is not an option under what phone do i have to try and sync them together! So is this not newest sense ui? will this phone ever be able to sync to site?
this is site im referring to......... https://www.htcsense.com/us/#
The myTouch 4g is not running true Sense UI, it is running mySense, which is basically Sense UI customized by HTC for T-Mobile. At this time only the true Sense UI phones can use htcsense.com. As far as whether it will ever work, HTC has not said.

UPDATE: HTC made a clarification on their twitter acct. See this post for the txt, or go visit The Twitter Post -- thanks Bioxoxide for the heads up.
This shouldn't be shocking to anyone....... but:
From Engadget (link: http://engt.co/eX1niG )
"Unfortunate news for anyone who saw HTC's Sense 3.0 UI and started dreaming about seeing it on their Desire HD, Incredible S or any other handset that doesn't ship with it preloaded. HTC has said that because of the hardware requirements of the fancier new Android skin, only the dual-core Sensation 4G and EVO 3D smartphones and the 1.5GHz Flyer tablet will be benefiting from it for now."
Guess we will continue to have to rely on our Devs until they all jump ship like on the HeroC.

Might be that the launcher is GPU accelerated and was made specifically for the adreno 220.

Just read this myself. It's actually a little upsetting, as I do like sense. Oh well =(
I can understand why they're doing this. Even though the Evo might be able to run it, if its laggy, casual users will be complaining like crazy. Then they'll run into a situation like Apple did when they stripped features for the iPhone 3g, but it was still almost unusable.
Btw, sorry if I offended anyone by mentioning the "A-word", haha

Update from HTC
HTC
Clarification: aspects of the latest HTC Sense won’t work on some previous devices. We are working to incorporate other aspects that will.
This isn't a shocker for me...there will probably be some ported version of Sense 3.0 but I doubt it'll run well. I'm completely fine without it.
I see this as bad this just means that the new sense is probly big bulky and poorly coded or they are lying and its not hardwear and they just want sense 3.0 to be a feature of newer devices to make them more appealing... I saw nothing in any video preview that looked like it needed a dual core... and I see no reason why adreno 200 wouldn't handle the 3d carousel thing

GB + Sense 1.0 just makes me want to yawn my brains out. Does anyone know if anything in the new leaked ROM can help the devs work towards a Sense 2.1 ROM that is fully-functional? I can't figure out why HTC/Sprint would even bother developing a ROM with the original Sense in it.

Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, but I think you're kind of judging the book by its cover.
The leaked rom works and is fully functional (I've been running Misfit's themed version for about a day now). 4g works, gps works, everything works. It's a step forward in progress which makes most of us happy. Besides, it's probably easier upgrading sense from 1.0 to 2.1 when both are running Android 2.3 than it is to upgrade it AND the Android software all at once.
We may get 2.1 someday.

this ROM has So much potential. watching it like a hawk, but...
sadly, I am cursed/blessed with living in an area with Excellent 4G, and after getting used to it, I simply can't use a ROM w/o it. ;-)
So many great ROMs right now that don't make the cut (for me), because of that. maybe silly, but...

That's not silly at all! I'm with you, I finally have 4G here in my area and it's nice to have. As much as I would like to run a GingerSense Rom, there's NO WAY I will run a Rom with no 4G! Not no but HELL NO!!! I need and use 4G and besides, I'm paying for it! 5 - 10mb downloads is hard to leave for crappy .30mbps 3G downloads!

I guess the reason I am so disappointed is that I haven't even heard of another GB device running Sense 1.0... seems it would have been easier for them to just push 2.1
I sent HTC an email yesterday about the EVO receiving at least Sense 2.0 and they replied with...
> Dear _______ _______,
>
> I would be more than happy to provide you with as much insight as I can regarding Sense 2.0 on the Evo, __________.
>
> It is tough to say whether or not the leaked ROM that you've tested is the final revision (as leaks can occur at any point in the development process), and even at that Sprint hasn't given us the final say on which UI they want included with their 2.3 Evo update. We will, however, forward this feedback to the appropriate software developers at both Sprint and HTC.
> Once we know for sure, we'll be sure to annouce this through both Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/htc), Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/htc), and of course HTC.com. And when the update becomes available, we will have the contents of the update, as well as a list of features and changes, so you can make an informed decision regarding whether or not updating would benefit you.

Wow... an intelligent and (at least somewhat) informative response from HTC, instead of a form letter. They actually acknowledge that they are working on a GB release for Sprint, and let us know that it's up to Sprint, not HTC, which version of the UI will be included (although, I think many of us already assumed this was the case).

LauncherPro>Sense
I personally don't think we will get the new sense only because the Evo 3D is coming. I know it will probably drop after the Evo 3D but it just wouldn't make sense on a business standpoint. Now I am not saying that HTC will make that call but Sprint may. There is no promise of the new Sense coming to the Evo anywhere or at least hear say. I love my Evo like everyone else but I am really getting bored with it. I find myself looking at the Nexus 4g and the Evo 3d. I like the new sense but other than themes and a few widgets, I don't see the big hype. I can't say it's not better because it is. More is always better but it's not a deal breaker.
I personally think the leak is exactly what we will be getting. It makes no sense for them to make a rom and add some features from the new sense like copy and paste, new font, and the newer browser. and keep everything else the same and then soon drop a rom with the newest sense. Don't be suprised if this is all we get. The EVO is going to be a....was a Flagship phone very soon.

this is my thoughts exactly.
in a different thread I mentioned something similar...
kingdazy said:
so, this Really isnt the thread for this, but yes, HTC is releasing an update this summer, and yes, a GB update. And like I said earlier, it's all speculation, some say one, some say the other (re: what Sense will be in it.)
Personally, the idea of getting GB to "work" with an old version of Sense, Then putting Sense 2.X on Top of that makes little to no sense to me (pun... intended?).
Sense is big, Sense runs deep. It's not "just a simple overlay". From a software testing standpoint, it makes no sense to test an OS with an extensive older software set integrated, then retest (this close to release) with a completely new software system later.
Perhaps the leak is what we are getting (likely), or perhaps it's an early test build that has been abandoned...? (if we're lucky)
(i'm not saying anything more on this, there are a billionionion other threads re: this... )

imho, a fully (meaning 4g) functioning gb/sense2 rom for our evos is a long shot, and even less likely an official one.

Sense 2.1 would be nice on the Evo, but as it stands now i would like a Gingerbread ROM with 4G functionality with sense 2.1. Other than that, form a marketing standpoint it would make sense for sprint to either hold off on then update or remove it to entice people to buy phones with the newer software. It is a logical business move.
i love how everybody has to use the phrases 'what makes sense' and 'what doesnt make sense', in a thread about Sense
I thought it was posted that 2.3 (and whatever version sense HTC will put in) is supposed to push late June? Was that information innacurate?
Any theory's out there why? I heard someone said it was because sprint would have to purchase the newer version of sense. But the 2.3 leak for the EVO Shift was found today and it has Sense 2.1. Any thoughts? =/
Remember that it was a leak, it could be a couple of reasons.
1. It's an early leak that was thrown together by HTC, so it may just be running off of the Sense Evo's 2.1 and 2.2 systems used, then the base android 2.3 system just as a proof of concept.
Or
2. It might be something with HTC and the hardware inside the Evo. As far as I know, there aren't any Snapdragon devices(NOTE-Original snapdragon, not the 45nm Scorpion used in the Shift, g2, DHD, etc etc) from HTC that have an official Sense 2.0 support. So it might be an official requirement for Sense 2.0 from HTC(Which we know is crap, seeing that we even have Sense 3.0 running on the Evo. )
Maybe because it will only have sense 1.0.

Probably not enough internal memory. I think normal people would be pissed if they lost a huge chunk of their app storage.

Just because they would have to update all of the documentation, publications, manuals and training for employees....
Hmm interesting thought about it being an original snapdragon. I doubt it's a training issue considering it they are doing it for the EVO Shift anyways.
I would be pretty sad if the EVO never sees anything higher than Sense 1.0 considering sprint's phone upgrades are 2 years now
From what I understand Android updates are considered maintenance and are free to Sprint while Sense updates aren't. Could be wrong though.

I think this is the main reason. I'm looking at the specs for the Evo, and the Evo shift and the Shift has 2gb of internal storage for system, data, cache, etc etc where as the Evo only had 1gb.
i hope that something of sense 2.0 comes with the gingerbread update. Im not going to hold my breath. I've been running 3.0 on my evo for the past couple days and its tolerable. i guess i'm not huge on having apps that i dont use so if i don't actually need "that" much storage
lets go sprint just give us 3.0 cuz i love the carousel of sense screen and being able to rearrange the screens

I seriously doubt that's true - of the non-stock UI I think it's the most loved and you really can't judge by the download of custom ROMs. And even there, Sense is ported if possible.
