UPDATE: HTC made a clarification on their twitter acct. See this post for the txt, or go visit The Twitter Post -- thanks Bioxoxide for the heads up.
This shouldn't be shocking to anyone....... but:
From Engadget (link: http://engt.co/eX1niG )
"Unfortunate news for anyone who saw HTC's Sense 3.0 UI and started dreaming about seeing it on their Desire HD, Incredible S or any other handset that doesn't ship with it preloaded. HTC has said that because of the hardware requirements of the fancier new Android skin, only the dual-core Sensation 4G and EVO 3D smartphones and the 1.5GHz Flyer tablet will be benefiting from it for now."
Guess we will continue to have to rely on our Devs until they all jump ship like on the HeroC.

Might be that the launcher is GPU accelerated and was made specifically for the adreno 220.

Just read this myself. It's actually a little upsetting, as I do like sense. Oh well =(
I can understand why they're doing this. Even though the Evo might be able to run it, if its laggy, casual users will be complaining like crazy. Then they'll run into a situation like Apple did when they stripped features for the iPhone 3g, but it was still almost unusable.
Btw, sorry if I offended anyone by mentioning the "A-word", haha

Update from HTC
HTC
Clarification: aspects of the latest HTC Sense won’t work on some previous devices. We are working to incorporate other aspects that will.
This isn't a shocker for me...there will probably be some ported version of Sense 3.0 but I doubt it'll run well. I'm completely fine without it.
I see this as bad this just means that the new sense is probly big bulky and poorly coded or they are lying and its not hardwear and they just want sense 3.0 to be a feature of newer devices to make them more appealing... I saw nothing in any video preview that looked like it needed a dual core... and I see no reason why adreno 200 wouldn't handle the 3d carousel thing

What do you mean same specs? The Desire HD has 768 MB of RAM (vs. 512 MB in the EVO) and a 2nd Generation Snap Dragon made with a more power efficient 45nm process (vs. 65nm) and significantly better GPU. Not that any of that will prevent the newer sense from running on the EVO, just saying.
I doubt that we will see the newer Sense soon. There's already a new OTA leak going around and that didn't include the new Sense, so it's likely that we won't see it on the next update and who know's how long another update will come after that.
I'm sure the Evo will get it by official or ported means.. its still sprints top device besides the epic, so I'm sure they'll try to keep us updated and happy.
Sent from my HTC Evo 4G using XDA app.
I say we will get it. Our phone is more then capable of handling it (our cpu speed is faster then the new desires). Even if our phones arent the newest HTC devices on Sprint network I bet it will still get it.
It wouldn't make any "sense" no pun for HTC to not update our sense UI. Sprint does not need the new Desire HD it already has one and only a small internal update of the 205 GPU will give us the GPU power the Sammy Hummingbird's have if not better.
We are just in the upswing of more to come so don't be mad what you bought today is outdated in a couple of months. Unless you really need it for game the 1Ghz you have right now in the EVO will handle most apps thrown its way. They will also get better with efficient coding for the apps as well over time so that will help with speeds.
Can't wait for November when I pick up the Desire HD Google voice/text has unified my phones over CDMA so I can play with my phones and not miss a beat. It's like having a SIM CARD virtually
So when I pick up the GSM phone it will get Google Voice/Text on it and all will be right with the world.
IPHONE who? bleh...
I think we are gettin it being HTC evo is HTC's best android device in the states...
I was hoping for Android 3.0
I can see HTC not having a problem giving it to us, but Sprint never seems to be to trust worthy. Hopefully it will just be ported and we can flash it or the awesome devs here will include it in their ROMS.
Freshhh Supersonic EVO 4G = iPhone 4 murderer
Which one do you think is better, and why? I'm leaning towards the HTC because I'm a sucker for HTC Sense. Any chance Sense will be ported to The Xoom? Any word on the Wifi-Only pricing? I heard it will be about $640 for the 32GB, anyone know if that's true? Sorry if I'm asking too many questions.
P.S. Mods, if this is against the rules, I'm sorry. Feel free to delete if it is. However, if you'd show mercy and not delete it, I would greatly appreciate that!

Pretty unlikely that the Xoom will get Sense, that hasn't really been ported to any device other than HTC's. With the xoom you get stock google experience, so it gets updated first, Flyer when HTC chooses. I have heard that the Xoom wifi will be $540 at Sam's Club, but just a rumor so who knows for sure? Not us... I love my Xoom, yes it has some issues but I feel those will be addressed in a couple weeks with the first update.

First off, HTC sense CAN get ported and has gotten ported to devices other than HTC products. Also HTC is doing away with dual core and using a single core 1.5 ghz chip. And they aren't touching gingerbread and using a heavily modified 2.2.3 or some ****. I'm taking a **** right now

The Flyer is actually running a modified 2.3 build with a tablet-specific version of Sense.
Sense eventually will come to the Xoom via some kinda port, but HTC has to release a tablet with 3.0 and Sense first. They have yet to even build Sense for 3.0 so it won't necessarily be available at the moment...
OP, these aren't really comparable imho. The Flyer is only 7" and runs 2.3 like I said and has a single core 1.5ghz processor, and the Xoom is 10" with 3.0 and running a dual core 1ghz processor. It really comes down to which size you prefer and how important 3.0 is to you.
Also, based on some rumors, the Flyer is not going to be much cheaper than the Xoom, which is kinda disappointing considering its only 7" and has a single-core processor.
I thought flyer had gingerbread -> honeycomb - not Froyo - so 2.3.3 not 2.2.3...?
Also I thought about this same question myself....
I came to the conclusion that:
1) I am using the tablet 99% of the time at home (so a bigger screen would be better, aka Xoom 10" over Flyer 7"
2) I won't be needing a 3g/data bundle as if I do need to then I'll use my phone - either Xoom or Flyer would be ok here.
3) I'm not overly bothered by note-taking or playing around with the pen - don't get me wrong, its an amazing feature if it works well as expected - but it's not that important to me (Xoom)
If I was out and about and wanting to make some quick notes in a meeting or such - then the Flyer would win in my opinion.
As I am going to be using it as a home-device in place of a laptop probably - then the Xoom with its larger screen wins it for me.

This is correct. Coming out with 2.3 + Tablet Sense. But I'm unsure on its upgrade path to 3.0.
Pretty sure HTC have said they'll be upgrading the Flyer to Honeycomb but they haven't given a date. Since they first need to port Sense to it, it might be a while.
Flyer looks like a good product but I'm not a fan of the 7th inch form factor.

I recall them saying that too.
Realistically Honeycomb will probably be at least 3 months from Xoom release - that seems to be a pretty much standard release time giving the last few releases...
that may be because google want their prime device to stand out among the rest for awhile - or because it takes people around 3 months to develop their sense/touchwiz/blur/whatever and test with multiple devices before roll out
I wouldn't by a flyer because it only has a single core cpu, and there's bound to be loads of heavier apps and widgets released that required a bit more steam when fitted to a tablet.
The Galaxy Tab 10 spec looks good. And the Galaxy Tab 7 is a bloody good tablet, so it has some pedigree.

I get what you're saying. There will, hopefully, be a lot of apps which will be optimised for a dual core processor. But a 1.5ghz single core is by no means a slouch. Imagine overclocking this to even 1.8ghz... nice!

I just like the way its setup, thats all. First Android I ever used was the HTC Hero running Eclair, I think. Does anyone know what kind of screen the XOOM has? I really liked the vibrant colors that HTCs seem to have. What are they? OMLEDs?
That's another reason I like Sense, everything looked so vibrant and colorful. When I look at pictures of the Xoom's homescreen, it looks dull and boring.

Yeah that's the only reason that I'm reconsidering to get the evo 3D for nexus s but the GPS issue with Sammy's phones piss me off if it would made HTC it would be a non brainier, I know HTC is delaying to update the HTC evo to make people buy the new phones but I don't think is right, at the end I might end up staying with my evo and get the ipad 2 I got apps on my iPhone the looks like.they got ipad support so wouldn't have to buy them again LOL

ya i agree. samsung has leaks out for some galaxy s already, most of which are still eclair btw, and now motorolla has leaks for the droid x and 2? what the hell is going on here? isnt htc supposed to be the company that comes out with everything first? when gb came out, there was a thread that said htc would update ~ February, motorolla around april, and sammy like summer. this seems completely backwards to me.
and didnt an htc rep say they were working on gb for evo around when nexus s was announced? i kno implementing sense is hard and takes a lot of difficult coding and stuff, but 4 months should be more than enough time for paid professionals.

If they pushed 2.3 for the EVO before the EVO3D was released it would actually make me want to buy the 3D more.
When I go to buy a phone now that I have experience with them.. I will look for a couple major things.
1. Battery life. Let's face it, new features are nothing if your phone dies in 6 hours.
2. Manufacturer/Dev support. If the EVO only gets one update then has to wait until the latest thing comes out before it gets another... then that's a HUGE setback for me, especially if we have a locked bootloader and AOSP roms aren't possible.
Samsung has a horrible rep but the battery life on their phones are reportedly outstanding. They aren't locking the phones down. They did stink it up in a HUGE way with the 2.2 update but if they push 2.3 out ASAP it goes a long way in my eyes.
I HATE HATE touchwiz, but if the phone isn't locked down then it doesn't much matter.
Samsungs phones are locked as well... the evo is too. Motos new phones are encrypted which is the problem.

I think a lot of people thought exactly what I thought. I saw the galaxy getting the official leak and thought what is going on. Htc is usually first on the scene with this type of stuff. Then today I saw motorola getting some love from the leaks. If both companies drop gingerbread before htc it will look bad on htc. They will be on 2.2 and everyone else on 2.3 and with the evo being seen as one of the best, it would be a shame. I hope HTC changes their mind and just drops gingerbread. I will even take Sense 2.0 and nothing else right now. The new features can come later.

Agree I don't care much for gingerbread what I want the most is a 100% working sense 2.0 desing for Evo with 4G , I know myn work in a nnice rom but I'm sure everyone agrees when I say that if HTC realese will be more stable and all features working and let EVO developers get their hand on it

i think...
moto and sammy are doing market clean up and PR repair.. knee jerk reaction to some surveys done last month about which OEM is faster and better support of upgrades/updates. HTC as at the top of most.
so here is moto and sammy trying to get public favor back. before they release their next big phone. and as most knee-jerk reactions.. the implementation will not be stable and full of bugs.. or low in features.
then back to waiting for the fixes and updates for the upgrade issues.
HTC is staying the course with their proven market strategy.
but I do hope that the quick release of gb on moto and sammy will quicken the gb release from htc on evo!
Strangely enough I still see a ton of people use the Evo 4G more so than ever even after this phone has been around for over a year now and really not too many Photons, Evo 3D's, or Epic 4G Touches. What makes our phone one of the most ubitiquous?
It would be if it sold on more carriers i bet. It was a revolution when it came out so it sold alot and continued doing well afte a price drop. Sadly im guess it will fade out when peoples upgrades come around since the evo isnt even 2 years old yet.
When the evo came it was was THE powerhouse. Now, most of the phones that come out are just dual core 1.2GHz something. Take away the second core, and you have an Evo. The Evo can still most things as the newer phones, just 'technically' slower. So like some games/apps may not work because they were optimized for dual core performance. I mean you can tether, wifi, 3g/4g...everything else the newer phone are doing, with the NFC only on the nexus. That's why most people are holding out on the evo.
It's because of XDA that the EVO is still holding strong
I believe Evo has the strongest dev community of any phone, and certainly the most longevity. It deserves it - it's the 1st superphone.

That's a fact...go look at any other of the XDA forums for other phones...none have as much going on there as far as active members, devs and posts and threads still being made. We have at least 10 threads with over 1 million plus views and some with over 2 million, most others only have a couple with a few hundred thousand views. The Evo has one hell of a community, something I will for sure miss whenever I jump to another phone next year when my contract runs out.

To me, I have compared my Rooted Evo to newer current phones and mines do the same thing. Still 8megpx camera, now with the newer twicks, panorama ect.
My 4G gives me steady 7 to 9mbps. I am running mix sense, and Gingerbread.
So. the way it is my phone is still good until August 2012 when my upgrade
Now also, with this app called " Jeannie" is just as good as the SIRI that the Iphone has. Now. we all know Iphone is not a match with a rooted EVO but that SIRI is cool. Jeannie is same if not better.
I have all apps that I need and still have over 160mp of free space of internal memory and over 4GB on the sd card. SO? what else I need?
IM sure, August 2012, the newer EVO then will be a Quad Core beast with camera of 10megapix and way much more...until then My EVO Rocks!!

I'm guessing spell check.
We will only be getting AOSP ICS ROMs until an RUU or system dump leaks with Sense ICS. Which will probably be a while, I'm guessing

With the ics source code being out, does anyone know the rims that will be running ics? I know cyanogen is but what about rims like my favorite MikG? Also i hope like alot of you there will be a sense based ics. What will all of you do when the builds for ics comes out? Flash or wait for an official version?

lo.. I was gonna ask wtf a rim was myself!
EVO4G will NOT be getting an official ICS update atleast not at this point. According to HTC the evos specs cannot handle ICS with sense and run smoothly, when a dev does create and unofficial ROM with sense included it will either be very laggy, stripped down with an earlier version of sense, 1.0 or 2.1 and it will take a lot of tweaking and modding to smooth it out. With the EVOs low RAM it just won't be able to handle the bloat of sense ontop of ICS you're best bet if you want ICS WITH sense on the evo will be to run an AOSP version with a sense styled 3rd party launcher and widgets. Source: a very close friend of my fathers who is a lead developer at HTC America. I have an HTC Edge prototype with ICS and sense 3.5 sitting on my desk. It is the CDMA version targeted for Sprint/Verizon codenamed EVOlution EVOlved... the prototype I have is very bulky and get very hot very fast with heavy usage as it comes stock with a 2800 MAH battery to power the quad core processor and be able to last more than 3 hrs on a charge. Unfortunately, if the aren't able to slim it down smaller people will hate it because of its size. My wife is 5'4" and it looks ridiculous when she holds it to her ear and is uncomfortable/difficult for her to use and impossible for her to use onehanded. although she does have rather small hands but she can't dial the phone one handed. After 2 hrs of me playing modern combat 2 on it it became so hot I couldn't touch it and it powered itself down. However the prototype I am in possession of is one of the first prototypes made I believe it is hardware version 0000a meaning it is an alpha prototype, maybe the very first test design made.

ha ha ur calling me a troll when you've been a member for 3 years have 0 thanks and 42 posts? I've been a member since the 9th of this month have 11 more posts than you and 21 thanks and I actually contribute to this site.... I'd say you're the weakest troll I've ever seen because apparently you know nothing of what you talk about or contribute absolutely nothing to the site if you've been a member 3 years and haven't a single thanks. My father happens to be an executive at largest insurance company in the world. They insure many large corporations and government buildings as well as other commercial properties like sports arenas and stadiums. I've been many places most civilians are not normally allowed to go due to the nature of my dads work. I was at ground zero 2 weeks after 9/11 with my father while his cat. adjusting team surveyed the damage as well as the damage at the Pentagon. I've been inside Apple, HTC and googles corporate headquarters and seen things I've had to sign confidentiality agreements just because I happened to walk past a window into a r&d lab. So troll somewhere else, before you open your mouth and know nothing of which you speak. So have a nice day calling other folks trolls because you don't know or understand what you're talking about. Go back under your bridge/ to your parents basement and keep thinking you're a magical elf lord or whatever other fantasy world you live in where you have some semblance of a life.
There was absolutely nothing troll-like about that post.....
