Also i hope like alot of you there will be a sense based ics. What will all of you do when the builds for ics comes out? Flash or wait for an official version?

EVO4G will NOT be getting an official ICS update atleast not at this point. According to HTC the evos specs cannot handle ICS with sense and run smoothly, when a dev does create and unofficial ROM with sense included it will either be very laggy, stripped down with an earlier version of sense, 1.0 or 2.1 and it will take a lot of tweaking and modding to smooth it out. With the EVOs low RAM it just won't be able to handle the bloat of sense ontop of ICS you're best bet if you want ICS WITH sense on the evo will be to run an AOSP version with a sense styled 3rd party launcher and widgets. Source: a very close friend of my fathers who is a lead developer at HTC America. I have an HTC Edge prototype with ICS and sense 3.5 sitting on my desk. It is the CDMA version targeted for Sprint/Verizon codenamed EVOlution EVOlved... the prototype I have is very bulky and get very hot very fast with heavy usage as it comes stock with a 2800 MAH battery to power the quad core processor and be able to last more than 3 hrs on a charge. Unfortunately, if the aren't able to slim it down smaller people will hate it because of its size. My wife is 5'4" and it looks ridiculous when she holds it to her ear and is uncomfortable/difficult for her to use and impossible for her to use onehanded. although she does have rather small hands but she can't dial the phone one handed. After 2 hrs of me playing modern combat 2 on it it became so hot I couldn't touch it and it powered itself down. However the prototype I am in possession of is one of the first prototypes made I believe it is hardware version 0000a meaning it is an alpha prototype, maybe the very first test design made.

ha ha ur calling me a troll when you've been a member for 3 years have 0 thanks and 42 posts? I've been a member since the 9th of this month have 11 more posts than you and 21 thanks and I actually contribute to this site.... I'd say you're the weakest troll I've ever seen because apparently you know nothing of what you talk about or contribute absolutely nothing to the site if you've been a member 3 years and haven't a single thanks. My father happens to be an executive at largest insurance company in the world. They insure many large corporations and government buildings as well as other commercial properties like sports arenas and stadiums. I've been many places most civilians are not normally allowed to go due to the nature of my dads work. I was at ground zero 2 weeks after 9/11 with my father while his cat. adjusting team surveyed the damage as well as the damage at the Pentagon. I've been inside Apple, HTC and googles corporate headquarters and seen things I've had to sign confidentiality agreements just because I happened to walk past a window into a r&d lab. So troll somewhere else, before you open your mouth and know nothing of which you speak. So have a nice day calling other folks trolls because you don't know or understand what you're talking about. Good news. Can't wait to see it. Would love to just use stock TW 3.0 to speed up my phone (ADW slows it down a bit.)
Considering GingerBread is supposed to drop next week some time....this really kind of blows. We really need a good CM6 then 7!
I can't remember exactly but I think Hero didn't get the 2.1 update until after code dropped for FroYo...Sucks being a version behind. And considering track record its the only OS Update we will see official. I highly doubt we will actually get GingerBread from Samsung/Sprint.

I agree. Everyone getting their hopes up for Gingerbread for the Galaxy S phones, I think are setting themselves up for a big let down. I haven't seen any phone (besides Droid and N1) receive more than 1 official update. And considering Samsung's update history, I definitely don't see them supporting this phone beyond 2.2

Not just tablets - Just better than 2.1 was with large screens (over 4.5 inchs).
GingerBread should add native video calling, a new UI, and a few other surprises.
And suspected release of Google Music.
Hopefully the ball keeps rolling until it gets to Sprint. Post any rumors you hear on this thread so we can keep track of this "gradual" rollout.

I believe the reports for gingerbread are 4th quarter of 2010. That's probably why everyone thinks it's coming soon. Other gingerbread info was from the last IO (they showed the music player streaming music from cloud) and just general quotes from google engineers about trying to get rid of carrier skins and what not.
Having said all that, didn't they just hire that webOS designer a few months ago? He's supposedly the lead designer for gingerbread, so could it really be coming in q4?
As for support, i think it'll be awhile but it will be supported. I feel like sammy has to support the galaxy line at this point w/ their 5 million handsets sold and the imminent galaxy tab (which they already stated will have gingerbread at some point). This is my first sammy phone and it's pretty apparent people have gotten burned by them in the past, but it would be a customer relations nightmare if they did this w/ the galaxy line.

Gingerbread supports large screens which suppose to go on tablet pads...I dunno where they get the idea that its gonna come out for phones
Maybe it will be a good reason to upgrade galaxy s phones because of the name similarities, now whether they have any similar parts inside I doubt but kind of gives us some of that 'hope' it will come out for phones also.
They have a development center here in Irvine, ca..... I will mission impossible into the facility and retrieve the release date in the laser protected vault room.

Actually it will be released with phones that have a 1Ghz Processing chip and at least 3.5 inch screen or larger.
Google themselves stated that gingerbread will require ATLEAST the N1's specs bare minimum. I read that a LOOOOOONG time ago though so idk...
But ayways, sammys rep for the tab mentioned honeycomb...
What if honeycomb is the start for android tablet OS and gingerbread is the continuation for the phone os?
I mean, tink about it...honeycomb isn't a sweet snack...atleast one that I know of...

Honeycomb is both a delicious treat as well as a continuation of the alphabetical nomenclature Google has chosen for their OS's. If they were going to branch off and make a separate lineage for tablets alone, I doubt they would interrupt their alphabetical naming scheme for phone based OS' to do it.

Mmmmm honeycomb is delicious! I got a chunk of white chocolate covered honeycomb from a local confection shop and it was DELICIOUS.
But I agree.... I dont honestly believe that any of the Galaxy phones will get anything past 2.2.
By the time 2.2 is FINALLY pushed to all the galaxys, new and better phones will be out.
I've never seen ANY android that had more than 1 system upgrade that wasn't a leaked developer made upgrade.

Each day when I come here, I see a big slow down on the developing and updating of roms for the Evo4G. I know allot of the developers and members have gone on to the Evo 3D, but there is still a large number of us that aren't totally sold on the 3D yet. And like in my case it is NOT from being able to afford the 3D cause the price is not the issue. I just think allot of members are being left with a slim choice of roms anymore and the choice is getting slimmer. Thank you 3D!

Really? If it is worth crying over why don't you start developing for your phone? These devs do this for fun and free. They don't owe you anything or have to develop on the basis that there is still a large user base. You are not entitled to anything.
Leaning the kitchen is definitely the way to go. That way you can take the best of what you like, and it in.
Much more satisfying too.

1. dude lets face it the evo 4g is now free at many places like target mobile..
2. The Evo 4g while a good phone is now end of life as it has been replaced... Its the way it goes.... We are lucky that the phone was not replaced after about 3 to 6 months. We got a year of updates.... from htc and sprint....
3. why dont you just go and get the evo 3d like i am in november for me...
4. why dont you just root and place some sort of evo 3d rom on your phone... granted it will be slow because of having to use the transflash card for everything.... since you need atleast a 2gb partition on it as ext3
You have definitely taken this wrong. And I have NEVER said the devs.owe us anything. Just making an observation. So don't try to inject things into my words that I am not stating.

IMO, I love HTC, but the hardware changes aren't worth me wasting my upgrade right now. I'll just wait for Fiscal Q1 2012 when everything will have major changes.
for example:
http://phandroid.com/2011/02/16/nvidia-quad-core-android-tablet-codenamed-kal-el-video/
that's a major hardware change from everything else. That would make me upgrade no problem....
I'm not saying from eVo to 3vO isn't an upgrade, just not enough for me
Man I can definitely see everyone does not read this correctly. It was just made as an observation and that was it. As for getting a 3D like I said the cost is nothing, as if and when I decide to get a 3D I will be purchasing more than one. My issue is Performance wise and I have tested it side by side at Sprint with my phone running virus's B1.3 rom. And even the tech I know there said outside of the 3D pics and videos, the processor just a hair bigger, and the increase in memory there really was not a significant difference in the performance. As he even stated that the rom I am using runs and makes transitions just as smooth as the 3D.
So I think I will just hold off til something with some more significant changes in software and hardware comes out before I use my upgrades or money on.
"Hell I don't know anymore"
I think the bottom line is a combination of factors.
The devs have done 2.1 and 2.2 pretty much to death.
AOSP, Sense 3.0, and GB are more intriguing to more and more people, but there is a lack of source code.
There are other higher-profile projects for devs, including rooting 2.3 and, yes, rooting and developing for the 3D.
But I agree with the other suggestions that you look into cooking your own ROMs, or maybe get into app development. That's what I'm doing, but it's also just for fun. Be creative. Just make a nandroid first.
Progress is a *****. Get over it.

I want to believe this is true but I think it's all speculation for quad cores coming to phones when dual cores are barely being introduced to some phones...Evo 3D being one of them. I agree though, I'm waiting until an ice cream sandwich phone (from someone other than Samsung) comes out..or a phone with higher specs to come out before I even consider getting a new phone.
I can see your comment is a suggestion as to your IQ gumbo. It really is surprising when people take observations you make as "crying" then post highly intellectural comments like "get over it" . ROFLMAO you make me laugh.

Once the kernel source is released we will see more development. Other than the original android phone the "G1" the EVO has seen major development over other phones and continues to do so. The EVO has had quit a run in my opinion. How many other phones get a update after a year of service? Not many. Once we see a non 3d version of the dual core I personally will be upgrading. For now I believe the shift ports are giving the EVO one more run.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I see it the same as SilverZero. It's not the Evo 3D or any other new sexy phone that's slowing ROM development. It's simply that Froyo's been done and still no source code for Gingerbread. So, things are slow. That said, I still see a lot of port successes (and failures) in Development and incremental tweaks on existing GB roms.
What would you like to see?
OP, just flash Synergy Rom and call it a day. It's the smoothed, zippiest Rom I have ever flashed. There's no denying it. With Synergy Rom on my EVO 4G, it's absolutely keeping me from getting the EVO 3D. It's that good.
I'm gonna hold off on upgrading for a little while at least three to six months to see what else is gonna become available.

Folks don't take me wrong, the 3D is an advancement and the developers here are top notch and so are a majority of the members. I have made and will continue to make donations to this site and the devs both in support and financially. I just know there are allot of folks still going to keep their evo's for awhile more and would hate to see the loss of further rom developing for our devices. If I had the knowledge and time to get into developing I would for the community. But I don't. As running a business and being part of several organizations for handicapped children takes up most of my time besides my own family. Nexus Prime Support Page up and in shambles at Samsung
As I noted yesterday when we got word of a code hidden at Samsung’s mobile webspace, the Nexus line is one that, when you get any new information on it at ALL, you’ve gotta report it. You NEED to report it because when it comes to Android, there’s basically nothing more exciting for those who love purity than a Google-certified vanilla flavoring of a version of Android OS, and in this case, it means the launching of the next big platform, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. What we’ve got today is a rather preliminary looking support page for the device aka GT-I9250, this being otherwise known as the Nexus Prime.
This device is being shown here in a broken-down placeholder of a page which, when it comes down to it, doesn’t show us much of anything. On the other hand, there is a new set of supposed factoids this morning courtesy of a tipster speaking with GSM Arena. Take the following with a grain of salt, of course, but note that these are all possibilities:
“For one, our tipster says that the final name of the next Google flagship is Samsung Galaxy Nexus rather than Nexus Prime. It will have a 4.65″ screen of HD resolution – not 4.5″ WVGA. … screen is curved just like the Nexus S screen … device itself will be very thin – 8.8mm – and have a metal chassis … the launch date – at the end of October (right on the Ice Cream Sandwich schedule)” – tipster
Note again that for basically any other device we wouldn’t be as apt to publish a third-hand unnamed source like this, but these specs ring enough bells that they’re certainly inside the realm of reality. Keep your ears open and let’s get this device out of the closet sooner than later!
ALSO as a bonus, here’s our favorite well-played comment on the matter thus far:
“Galaxy Nexus is like naming your kid Ricky Bobby. Galaxy Prime would make more sense and sounds a lot better.” – Kenshiro
This man speaks truth!

Google and Samsung should find a way to PUMP up Pixels in this jumbo screen otherwise they should jump back to IPS display to satisfy custumer . Samsung should move to new laser-based method, Laser Induced Thermal Imaging (LITI) from the currently-used shadow-mask method (FMM) to pump up the pixel density.
Point well taken--best to wait an extra month to get 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Nexus Prime/Nexus Galaxy then to get 2.3 Gingerbread Galaxy S2. Also you will get updates directly from Google instead of waiting for TMO/Samsung (some say its TMO fault the Vibrant hasn't received Gingerbread, others say Sammy, depends whom you ask).

I use Toxic 8 and juice defender to limit the amount of data when my screen is off, and I'm getting around 20 or so hours. It's usually around 14-16 when I'm using it a little more during the day, but I don't do that as much anymore.
I've been wanting to try Miui for awhile now, but both the GPS and battery life have been talked to death on these boards. Just curious what your personal experiences have been since using it?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Lol, ill simplify this for you...
Note, not coming to USA anytime soon, and when it does it wont be on tmo bands.
Gs2, the Hercules more than likely will have the same snapdrogon that's in the sensation. While nice, IMHO is not as good as the exynos in original sgs 2, and the omap 4 that will be in the prime. Also, because of this seems to me to be more of a lateral move from vibrant than a forward one.
Nexus, is the way to go. It will be stock android so waiting for updates wont happen again, also it will have top hardware and more than likely an HD screen which will look amazing.
Just wait for the nexus unless you absolutely need a phone now. It will be well worth the wait.

Am I the only super excited about the new Ice Cream Sandwich update android is releasing can't wait to see what these great developers are gonna do next! What are your expectation if any with this update?

Most of us are excited, as there are already leaks of some apps, such as the music, talk, google+, ect. I personally know some dev teams who are going to be working on it, so I foresee good things.
Me I've been reading things online and everything looks great I'm a cautious rooter and flashers like to do my research before I just start putting stuff on my EVO but I'm super excited! I love Google + so I always looking forward to them making navigation easy so I can get more of my friends into it!

Right now, I hardly see a good fast sense port coming to ICS unless we port it from other phones, but idk about how that will work. As far as AOSP comes along, once CM8 comes, imma slap that on my supersonic as fast as possible.

Apparently, they are "skipping" 8, next iteration is going to be CM9, from what I heard.
And from how ICS looks, I might skip CM, forget about Sense, and actually run a pure AOSP for once.

I WAS super-excited until the 4S came out.
I was looking for news everyday as I am ready to replace the Evo.
The game changer for me is Siri. I use the phone a lot while I am driving and voice actions, vlingo, etc, etc, don't work great. (Voice is fuxored on Gingerbread 2.3.3.)
Until the 4S, I could compare Android to iPhone spec for spec, and find Android winning favorably. But a big AMOLED screen does me no good when a smaller phone do hands-free magically.
Before the 4S, the most exciting thing to me would have been interface improvements. After? I want to see what Android is offering to match Siri.
Google had plenty of time to see Siri in the App Store then Apple's acquisition of it. They are not RIM, so they don't have the excuse of having their heads in the sand.
Except for leaks of what seem to be fake pics or videos and some leaking of apks, Google has been tight-lipped about anything new in Android. So it should be pretty exciting. I don't expect ICS to have AI--how ironic, Android without a brain--but I do expect them to announce significant improvements in voice recognition. In some ways, the iPhone was playing catch up with visual interface features like the notification bar, so Android is in the lead in that department. I like the busy interface of Honeycomb, not on the tablets but on the smart phones.
I have NO idea new features Google will be revealing. We know about NFC and Google Wallet but as far as basic phone features go, that field is wide open. Four more days!
300$ is a bit to much for me.

So I see that the HTC Rezound dropped down to $50 today, and I've been looking for a cheap 4g phone that isn't the stratosphere. This "looks" like a good deal, except I know absolutely nothing about HTC phones.
The beats audio thing looks pointless to me, but does anyone have any thoughts on the rest of the phone? I am entirely clueless about this so any insight is appreciated.
Thanks

the rezound is a good phone. with an unlocked bootloader, 4g, hd screen and htc, its a good upgrade. plus you could even sell the earbuds and make all your money back id say go for it if you dont mind a phone on the thicker side lol
it's a nice phone, especially at that price. good specs, nice HD screen (though not amoled so not quite as vibrant) and fast data. I'd recommend it, especially with the ics upgrade coming in a few days.

Coming from someone who really doesn't enjoy touchwiz at all, is sense enjoyable to use? It doesn't look like the Rezound has any ICS source which worries me, but maybe I'm more worried than I should be because Samsung destroyed my confidence in custom skins?
I might just have to get my AOSP fix from my Gtab, but I'm also just realizing how awesome the Fascinate is.
Thanks again!

being that i came from an htc eris, i can say sense is nice but laggy...and samsungs are still about the easiest to mod. unfortnately ICS source would have to be out before i would make the switch...gingerbread blowz!
Hardware wise, it's a pretty good phone for $50. I personally wouldn't be interested in it since (sorry to be harsh) but AOSP development looks... less than promising. Wouldn't be terribly interested in sense. There will be official ICS soon, but it's with sense 3.6, not version 4, which looks like the only decent iteration of sense in ages.

It looks like all they need is s-off (which from what I can see is very close to being completed) to gain access to the nand partition, and ICS kernel source.
So I guess I need to find out if HTC is good about releasing kernel source, if they are I might just pick this up.
4G tethering to my tablet is just so tempting...om nom nom!
if you like sense (or think you might), its probably worth getting
i wouldnt your breath for aosp though as they dont have any experienced aosp guys who own the phone or are working on it
really though being tied to that phone for 2 years might be kinda rough imo...id soldier on and wait for any news on either a better htc (hopefully a one series) or the sgs3 and try and pick up a charge on the cheap on craiglist ebay (cant be more than 125 these days) if you need lte

Get it then! It's arguably the best phone on Verizon. Dual core. Hd screen. Unlockable bootloader. One of the best cameras. You really can't go wrong. You can wait it out for a better phone (gs3 or HTC one series), but don't get your hopes up. Good luck and choose well because you only have 24 hours. Plus try to use amazon wireless. Free shipping no tax some extra free apps and I got a free car charger!

Honestly I've been using aosp on my phone ever since I got my inc2. sense is too ugly and boring for me but it's just my opinion. Also, they aren't much faster at updating phones than Samsung. I would wait for Galaxy Note variant if there's one ever or sgs3.

Ya you pretty much nailed the two reason I haven't bought it yet.
1.) No AOSP, and they're getting ICS delayed over and over.
2.) Tegra 3...om nom nom...it's worth the wait.

They are working on RIL for CM9. Once that gets worked out (and they do have experienced AOSP guys working it), and ICS kernel source drops it'll be done. From what I understand, there are quite a few devs that are ready to start working on the Rezound when the s-off method is released.
For everyone bagging on sense, it really is a matter of opinion and taste. I'm running a Sense 4.0 Rom that was just released today and it is really nice. Still needs some work and polish, but it is running very well. It's funny, a lot of people complain about Sense being ugly, but it is amazing how many people want to run an AOSP Rom but also have a lot of the Sense widgets like the flip/weather clock and animations, and Friend Stream (which I personally can't stand), and the app drawer. Personally, I like both and think they both have their strengths and weaknesses.
What AOSP devs do they have and what's the status of S-OFF?

dmeadows3,synisterwolf, and droidvicious (MIUI) are two that I know of. Plus two awesome devs that usually work on Sense Rom's (Joelz and newtoroot) I believe said that they are going to contribute to the RIL issues too.
As for S-Off, last week globatron and his team did a very short closed beta on a method for S-off and successfully attained s-off on several peoples rezounds. We are just waiting for them to get it ready for prime-time and then we're golden.
I can't wait for CM9 and Miui v4 on this phone to be honest.
Nice, hopefully things speed up from this point and they can get some good AOSP development. Without solid AOSP rom support, it'll be hard for me to upgrade.
I suppose I just thought it was funny how a bunch of rezound people were talking about how much greater the rezound is than the nexus, "wait until we have CM9, this thing will spank the nexus!". This was like 5 months ago when the phones were coming out (and still no AOSP), but I still see comments like that. I don't really care since I don't have either device, just thought it was mildly amusing. Not saying AOSP roms won't happen, but most of the people you mentioned port sense roms, which as I understand, is a different animal then building from source.
Hopefully they can get the RIL figured out.
