Lag when changing the orientation..... - Acer Iconia A500

I am experiancing a lag when i flip my tab from landscape to potrait mode.........it takes about 1-3 secs to change the orieentation....this wasnt the case untill i updated to .40......(atleast was a little faster.)...is there a fix for this....to make the orientation change faster....??
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App

I also had the same issue; I've since switched to Virtuous Galaxy Rom and there's no lag whatsoever when switching orientation.

woops nervermind
*************
I don't experience any lag that's in any way different than before.
I'm pretty sure that the apps being redrawn on the screen will have some role in how quickly things flip and settle.

**IMPORTANT** Please Test. G-Sensor = Cause of 'Random' freezes + Bad Screen response

I Think I May have found the cause of the otherwise apparently 'random' freezes/hangs and total lack of touch sensitivity.
Basically, In my case at least, It Is the G-sensor/accelerometer.
I have been noticing increasing numbers of these freezes on Mattc 1.5 Froyo, Mainly in Landscape, Mainly in games.
TEST:
I installed 'Iron Sight' Game. (If theory is right then you should be able to use any landscape game, but please try Iron sight if possible.)
I Ran the game and it switched to landscape,
SO I PHYSICALLY TURNED MY HD2 TO LANDSCAPE.
THIS IS WHERE THE FREEZING AND LAGGING BEGAN!
On the Main menu found it difficult to press any options.
When I did manage to start a Game The control buttons were hard to press and the game was unplayable because screen sensitivity was just not there most of the game.
I Then Physically turned the HD2 around and Back to Portrait orientation, AND ALTHOUGH THE SCREEN ORIENTATION STAYED IN LANDSCAPE I DID NOT EXPERIENCE ONE SINGLE LAG OR FREEZE.
BUTTON PRESSES WERE RESPONSIVE TO TOUCH AT ALL TIMES FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES!
HERES WHERE IT GETS MORE INTERESTING....
I Then Turned the HD2 back around to landscape again and the Problems IMMEDIATELY RETURNED.
I THEN HELD THE PHONE VERY STILL IN LANDSCAPE AND AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE PROBLEMS/LAG/FREEZES DISSAPEARED AGAIN!!!
TESTED REPEATEDLY!
IN LANDSCAPE AS SOON AS THERE IS ANY PHYSICAL MOVEMENT, THE GAME FREEZES, BUT IF I KEEP IT STILL THE GAME RESPONDS PERFECTLY WITHOUT HESITATION.
Can some of you please test this theory?
A cradle/Dock would be handy for testing but it is possible to keep the phone still enough in-hand in my tests.
Use the game "Iron Sight" where possible, but use other games/apps too if you have time or inclination
Post the results below ( with logs where possible ?) Please.
Note:
After discovering the above, I did a search on XDA and found that a member called 'Hinky' and touched on this but I think I have narrowed it down.... I think
Please test and confirm (or debunk lol).
Thanks.

Yes this is something that the devs have been discussing. It does seem that the freeze issue is in fact related to the g sensor. I don't know if anyone is working on it at this time but I believe Cotulla will try to sort it out for his September release

Lol keep with the testing though I didn't figure that much out
Hmmm this is def the prob for my touch screen issues. I tested a bit using the latest mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense 1.5 version, with latest FULLRAM. I found that while on the sense home screen if I hold the phone out in front of me either landscape and portrait it's ok, and I can do whatever I want at full speed no lag at all. THEN if I lay the phone flat, It freezes. I did this like 20+ times and every time It would freeze whether I was playing a game or reading an email.
This also happen to me. Using Mattc 1.5 Froyo, it happens when using internet browser. The screen will freeze or not response right after i turn from Portrait to Landscape or sometimes have to wait for few seconds. I have to turn my device from Landscape to Portrait, and back to Landscape again, then the screen responses back to normal. This also happens in Copilot app when using in Landscape mode.
I turned off the screen rotation
What I did since i installed my ROM with 380mb ram is to turn off all screen rotation settings, so far so good, I haven't notice any freeze or lag so far in any application or while waking the device up, I used to have it and I hate it, I almost went back to Winmo!!.

Please tell me....
Did you fresh install 1.5 or upgrade 1.4>1.5?
I had quite a few freezes on 1.4.
Then I upgraded to 1.5 and kept my apps etc from 1.4.
I HARDLY HAD ANY FREEZES AT ALL
Then I did a fresh install of 1.5 and started getting LOTS of freezes.
i did a fresh install.
i deleted all android files on my sd card and extracted the new build to a new made "Android" folder...
i use xanny roms, and i still have the robovoice problem, so i can´t use android daily...
i noticed on all android builds ive tried sofar, that the polling interval of the gsensor is very bad/small. U can see it when u go to calibrate the gsensor, the bubbles move very slowly...
this is not a big thing when u only use the gsenor to turn screen to LS, but it is essential to play games using the sensor...

Lol, no worries I'm glad that you pointed it out. This was actually one of those really useful threads and the kind of thing that the developers are looking for. I am not a dev but I speak with them pretty regularly when the same issue are pointed out time and time again by those who do not read the threads. This was something that has not been talk about here so I appreciate your well thought post and the information that you provided
I was just a step before creating a new thread about it when I saw this one.
This is definitely one of the things that are really pissing me off using Android.
Furthermore, I did tests on this issue for quite long to doubt that it's an autorotation related issue. Maybe it has something to do with the g-sensor, but it still would happen randomly even trying not to move the phone at all. I noticed that the problem wouldnt appear that often when decreasing the polling interval of set cpu and same time increasing the min. freq. to 380, but still, it DOES happen.
I'd really appreciate any statement on this, developer side of course.
I have the occasional screen freeze on landscape, but not very often using froyostone.

Cheers for that ^
+1 for the Gsensor polling intervals seeming very slow.
THIS CAN BE SEEN VERY CLEARLY USING THE 'VR TUNNEL' LIVE WALLPAPER.
Here the cubes move smoothly at a good fps while the tunnel moves around at what appears to be 4/5 fps.

Possibly not related to autorotation per-se, but...
With Autorotation disabled... If I turn my phone on its side (with volume buttons pointing towards floor) I still experience freezes on my home screen or anywhere else for that matter.
Plus I have found that holding the phone VERY still in any position seems to eliminate 'ALL' freezing and lagging problems.
Do the G-sensor and the Dgital compass 'interlink' or communicate in any way? Is it possible that the screwed up compass output is screwing with the g-sensor output?
I ask this because the game 'hungry shark' thought that my phone was flat whent the usb port was pointed down towards the floor.
Dont know if that makes sense but for me it seems like the g-sensor is fubar as well as the digital compass.

Well ofc, it wouldn't freeze when it's COMPLETELY hold still, but I guess that shouldn't be the point of daily usage.
Now when it comes to spontaneous outside actions, you are trying to pick up a call using touchscreen cuz ur used to it or trying to shoot out a text in hurry, and your device will just go sleep for some time. I mean, how'd you hold still if you're moving (fast)?
If you ask me thats pretty much a major bug, not to forget the 3g data thing. I'm not moaning around, just want to attain more focus on this. I notice people losing themselves in some benchmark trolling - just time waste.
There is already a thread for that (walking dead)
Just found a possible solution, please repport if it is better for you too :
- boot windows mobile, calibrate the g-sensor in settings (i did it 2 or 3 times, but i don't think its important)
- do a proper shutdown of wm
- restart wm + android

Anyone else Got Touch Lag?

Firstly hello to all my fellow Vega UK users!
For the price I think this device is great, but it does have it's issues.
Do any of you have the problem where the touch screen just seems to stop working? It'll kick in again soon enough, but it's frustrating as hell.
Also sometimes the task manager seems to appear by itself, but I can;t get it to appear when I need it?
I'm using Pauls Add-on ROM. (thanks Paul )
Logicalstep
I havn't had any major lag at all.
What do you mean by task manager? do you mean the one when you hold "home"?
I have found after a lot of use, with a lot of apps open that the system can lag. I guess this is due to system resources. Recommend installing ES Task Manager from the market to manage running tasks.
You mentioned the task manager appears by its self, do you mean the home screen selector? I found hitting the home button to many times makes this display.
Some users have reported issues with the touch system when the tablet is charging. Do these issues only appear when plugged in?

Yes believe so. due to non regulated power supply causes the screen to become over sensitive.
I get this issue too occasionally, vastly increased when plugged in, now and then when not.
I dont use the machine when its charging.
No real rhyme or reason to it occouring in my experience, id love to know of a cause, other than dirty screen.
Rgds
Lok
Yeah It's a bit of a strange one tbh.
Can;t say I have noticed the lag more when plugged in. I though the PSU was regulated, isn't it just a standard Switch mode PSU?
On the task manager, well obviously there is a task manager with Foryo and oon my Galaxy s I hold the hold button down and it appears, however there doesn;t appear to be a reliable way to do this on the Vega....or am I wrong?
Logicalstep
I never get any touch lag, but I'm not convinced "lag" is the word you want.
"lag" would indicate that the response is somewhat behind the touch action. Android versions below Gingerbread do suffer from that when the CPU is loaded but the Vega is better then most in that regard.
What it does suffer from a _lot_ it erroneous and missing touch events (especially when using a poorly smoothed PSU like the one provided) symptoms include:
1. Swipe gestures being terminated before you lift your finger.
2. Long press actions acting like multiple-presses.
3. (The most common for me) Finger up events failing to register (resulting is erroneous long-presses)
But none of these are "lag". I believe there are grounding problems in the Vega and thus how you hold the tablet and the humidity and static of the environment can change the reliability of the touch screen. It's been reported that having the Vega plugged into a desktop via USB increases the reliability of the display (at least when also charging) which lends credence to the idea that it's grounding related.
What I have noticed ín particular is that holding the tablet in landscape mode makes the keyboard ultra inaccurate. You must press much below the level you want. E.g., if you want to write a Q you hit the A key. It's a bit bothersome while writing...
I haven't experienced any lag, just a slight deadzone at the bottom of the screen and inaccurate keyboard typing. Nothing major. I also haven't really noticed the messed up screen sensitivity when charging that people have been going on about.

I've seen the device lag sometimes but since i installed pauls peformance pack the lag has gone away making the device so much better.
Well for me the keyboard is still a major issue. Not lag really, but it appears to register my touches multiple times. Right now Im typing this reply on my tablet and I have to go back so many times to correct multiple characters, spaces etc. Its just taking so long and requires so much effort to write a simple message.. for browsing and apps I love it but for email its horrible..

EC05 - Your Thoughts

We don't have a thread yet discussing things that we like/don't like about the update to EC05. I am quite certain that Sprint ID will be a hot topic here, but we don't need to limit it to that.
What do you like and what don't you like? What has been fixed and what has not been fixed?
Personally, I am enjoying the Sprint ID because of some additional ringtones and wallpapers. The launcher works much like the stock Android launcher with the exception of the iD button replacing the browser button. I always activate the internet from an icon in a home screen anyways.
I have also noticed that the GPS seems to be very strong and accurate!!
In call volume seems to be louder (to me) as well.
I would probably enjoy Sprint ID if I could get any apps to show up in the app drawer for me. It's empty forcing me to stick with Touchwiz.
It seems to be much more stable. Gps works great. I've had no 3g data issues. No FCs, minus the xda app. I had to remove one bloatware file to get my adfree hosts file updated due to the /system partition having no memory left. The browser still has checkerboarding, but that's a minor thing for me, and the keyboard still does its thing. Otherwise a really good running stock ROM for me.
I did put launcher pro back on though. I've gotten too used to it.
Hardware keyboard sucks even more than it did before, which is impressive.
There's no longer a separate silent and vibrate ringer setting.
Those two are basically a killer. I guess I'll keep DI18 forever. :\
Orientation is slow as molasses. The terminal emulator yamaha_sensorcalibutil hack doesn't help at all. Will play with for a few days and probably go back to DI18 if i can't find a fix for orientation issue.

Ok I have only been using it for about 10 minutes but I immediately tested the few things that I knew existed on EB13 for me.
1. Camera sports mode fixed
2. Video recording in low light fixed
3. Compass being screwed up fixed
4. 3g speeds faster for me
5. overall speed seems faster
6. Physical keyboard isn't missing keys for me DISCLAIMER: I am not a speed typer. I have only used the keyboard a few times since owning the Epic. However on EB13, and before, I could produce the letter skips pretty easily. Especially on double leTTers. I tested by typing 100 words as fast as I could and I did not have a single letter miss. But I did have a few spelling errors
Only two problems that I know of which I don't really care that much about
1. Browser checkerboarding
2. Playing audio from flash content over the web to bluetooth headphones stutters badly. Flash audio out of the speakers work fine. Had this problem on EB13 also.
If I run into anything else I will let you know.

My orientation and compass are flawless. I will keep an eye on it though to make sure I don't find a problem because I have only used it for about 20 minutes now.
So far, everything is running very smoothly and appears to be more responsive than my stock DI18. The only issue I have seen thus far is I disabled my Wi-Fi to look at the SprintID packs (you can only view these when using the data connection) and when I went to re-enable the Wi-Fi, I received an error. This corrected itself after I turned off my data (holding the power button and selecting the new data option) and then back on.
EDIT: Tried the BlueTooth, which worked great; However, when I turned it off and went to watch a YouTube video, the sound was only coming through the phones speaker and not the main speaker. It only started working again after a reboot. I believe I saw this in a thread a while back. Anyone else experiencing this yet?

Sprint Id is a pleasant surprise to me too. I like the ESPN id with its wallpaper, ringtones and icons.
For those using sprint id, do you notice any performance or battery problems from using it? That is the main reason I am avoiding it. Wanted to wait until more data came in to see what peoples opinions were. If people could throw up some screen shots showing some differences that would be nice.

Seems generally good. No lag, most of the bugs fixed, only the TWS bug remains (which seems to be in the AOSP Android code, not created by Samsung). It's too early to tell but it seems that battery life may be average at best. I've been on Stock EB13 with Genocide 0.4a kernel (which is an OC/UV kernel) and I got used to 24+ hours battery life, I don't think I'll see that with full stock EC05.
The battery life has gotten significantly worst with EC05. The drain when the screen is off is significantly more. There is a lot of lag, even with calibrating upside down, with the screen orientation. I have the same set up as I did with stock EB and the camera fix and the battery life was a lot better. I may go back to that.
The good for me:
1- 3g speeds the best yet, had 1.3Mb down and 700k up while driving.
2- Everything seems much smoother and faster. I wiped my stock sd card before flashing ec05 and my sd tools results are better.
3- GPS and orientation speeds are flawless. (removed Sprint bloat)
4- Modem in general seems fixed. My wifi doesn't drop out every 10 minutes like it did on eb13, and I can stream radio on tunein radio again without it buffering every minute or so.
5- Sprint ID. It's more options and stuff for us to choose from. Some may hate that, but at least it's actually useful bloat from Sprint that I didn't remove.
Still haven't found an issue after several hours of use.

I would give it a little time to judge the battery life on the update. I am pretty sure your usage has changed a bit due to the update brining something new and all the re-setup you probably had to do. In regards to lag - I have zero issues with that, it seems nice and fast to me - install spare parts from market and put animations to fast to get it even smoother. My GPS locked instantly inside my house which never happened before on any ROM (stock or custom). Screen rotation speed can be fixed by doing the yamaha calibration trick (need to root for that though) - I had to do this with every ROM including EB13 Samsung flash. I understand that to each his own, but I am definitely liking this update. They did a good job and now that I resolved my exchange server issue, I am really liking it. Good job Sprint/Sammy!
I still have the BT issue as the EB13,I have a Jabra A2DP headset,it doesn't see my headset after i turn it on,I had to turn off & on bt on the phone again for it to see my bt headset,I had this exact problem on EB13 but not DI18,sometimes no matter what i did,it just not seeing my bt headset anymore, had to delete and re-pair it again, very frustrating, beside this,i have no issues w/EC05.

Second Screen Lag

Hi everyone,
Has anyone noticed a second screen lag when swiping it around while the main screen is off? I only have the quick toggles and music player on my second screen when the main screen is off. But regardless of any direction you swipe it, there is a VERY considerable lag as it navigates to the next item. For those who previously had the LG v10 and are currently using the V20, I'm pretty sure you've noticed that the swipe on the V10 was very swift. I'm asking out of curiosity if anyone else has had this issue. It's possible that due to first batches of V20s available to the public, these units are suffering from it? Idk, I just want to hear your thoughts if possible. Thank you!
I'm experiencing the same thing.
Not mine, I have also the music player active and actually is pretty snappy.
no problems here. I'm not saying there's never been a lag, but generally not a lag on my Tmo version.

When Pandora is playing the 2nd screen is noticeably laggy for sure. It doesn't impact how quick I can scroll around but it doesn't look great. Doesn't really bother me since the 2nd screen is too locked down to be that useful. I just leave it on Pandora controls or date/time
Yeah I'm seeing it too. Most of the time I need to double swipe it then it would jitter to the left when playing music. When not playing anything, it still has basic lag when screen is off.
Im noticing the same lag on mine as well when the main screen is off. Maybe something to do with battery saving.
Try this
Settings/Developer Options/ Tick on "Force GPU Rendering" this should make your beast smoother/snappier!
If root available try L Speed/Entropy/fstrim apps found on Play Store! LG V20 & LG G5 are both snappy beasts and most anticipated of 2016! They are well optimised with Snapdragon 820 and is better than Samsung.
I had this lag until I did a factory reset 3 days ago. I thought maybe it was the LG Home + App update from the lg app update so I didn't update until yesterday. The second screen lag is still gone. Maybe it was during initial setup that something borks. I don't know.

Hey beast,
So you recommend a factory reset? And you SURE it should be a bit faster or the lag would leave atleast?

Thanks. So how soon did you notice the lag and how quickly did you do the reset. Other than the screen lag being gone, did you notice any other changes or flaws?

Honestly I didn't notice the lag until this thread pointed it out. Probably because I've had Samsung devices for so long that lag is just part of life. Since factory resetting it, I've noticed it just runs better in general and not just the second screen lag.

The second screen lag hasn't returned for me after the factory reset. It swipes left or right very quickly.
I do get a random lag from several hours/days uptime on the regular screen though. A restart fixes that lag for me.

My screen was lagging so I reset all the defaults that go with the second screen and it now runs smoothly so long as my battery percentage is above 25%.
Almost 3 weeks and I've experienced no lag at all on second screen, always fast and fluid however it's been set up.
@Olivia1234
I'm curious why you think battery % would make any difference. Have you actually confirmed it does?
And welcome to XDA.
Same here. I am having lag on stock and now running mega rom on my 918. I have to swipe a couple of times and then it will skip the toggles I want ? maybe it's meant to be laggy so toggles aren't pressed by accident? Or so it's not swiping back and forth in your pocket??...either way it's very annoying
Nah mate, you not read my post above yours?
It should behave the same as main screen, be dumb to purposely make it behave like yours is.
Only time I have lag so to speak is when the phone has been sleeping for awhile in my pocket. When I take it out and wait for the 2nd screen to turn on and I try swiping sometimes it'll take a 2nd swipe or so. Almost seems like doze or deep sleep and it's not kicking it up fast enough to respond in time. So far has happened to stock, WETA and MegaRom.
Very annoying how long it takes for the phone to wake up when it's been in pocket. It won't even register the power button press to turn it on or the double tap to wake until the 2nd screen has turned back on

I've experienced that exact same thing. Sometimes I try to unlock it to fast and it just locks again no big deal for me though. I just ran across an issue running MegaRom.
Not sure if it has anything to do with the room though anyway the quick tools on the second screen are gone. If you scroll from the signature to the quick tools menu it's just black if you tap where the icons should be they work it's just like they are invisible or black I'm thinking it might have something to do with Nova launcher but I'm not sure I've played with the settings in Nova for about a day and it hasn't changed.

gaming stutter issue?

I'm not sure if it's because I'm rooted or what, but I noticed most basic games lag really bad on my phone, like fallout shelter for instance it locks up for a few seconds every couple of seconds and it's pretty annoying... Any ideas?

Since I've had this phone I have had some performance issues with games and apps. Some of them were very strange (Ie: certain graphics or images showing up as black boxes.) Most of these were fixed via app updates. Still having some strange issues with certain apps being cutoff at the bottom (ie Snapchat just had a black bar on the bottom which makes it hard to send a message because you cannot press the send button.) I am now a month and a half into this phone. I am experiencing lag even while scrolling through apps or switching apps. I am also experiencing strange delays with the keyboard popping up when I touch a text field. It's hit or miss. Overall I still love the phone.
Side question. How did you root?
