Hey guys, I have always had issues with tomtom getting a sat fix for the longest while. A couple weeks ago when I was messing with tomtom i was like screw this and went to google maps and enabled the use gps feature and got a fix. I then went back to tomtom and my sats came up in 3 seconds or so. Now my question is ... is it a coincidence that my tomtom getting gps fix quickly whenever i use google maps to get a sat. Or is it some kind of internal gps storage thingy ... not sure what I am trying to say.
But still guys with the xperia who been having issues try getting a fix with tomtom and see how long it takes. Close tomtom and use google maps to get a gps location and after u do get yourself on gps, close google maps and go back to tomtom.
Let me know what you get, everytime I tried this it worked for me ... not sure why or what is going on. But tomtom7 takes forever to load up with the x1 compared to google maps.
I just posted on another thread that I think there is an issue with gps on x1. Mine was working super fast on both satnav and google maps and then just stopped working at all. I now have the same problem as another poster that my x1 will not get a lock at all so sending it back for replacement on advice from sonyericsson support.
load up google maps and get a fix then close google maps then load tomtom and see if u get anything then. That works for me.
No. Afraid even google maps doesnt get a lock at all. Tried pairing the phone with a bluetooth gps receiver and all software works perfectly and fast so definately a hardware problem on the phone sadly.

i had a problem with tomtom:
gps nav was working (selected internal gps antenna) but screen was grey, i could see my movement but no calculations.
gps was working in google maps.

tomtom says i'm in aircraft mode, and doesnt show collors, calculations or routes (actually it does show routes but doesnt update it when i change it).
Ok, I am still waiting for HTC desire to come to my door. At the moment I am just wondering what GPS application available for Android (I mean like Garmin or Tomtom thing??) As I understand both Garmin and Tomtom are still unavailable. I know the phone should come with Google map? As I understand it google map require internet connection not just GPS? the thing is I dont have internet connection with my phone plan. I only use wifi or hotspot. So I need GPS application that can work just by using the built-in GPS? Besides the internet package here downunder in Aussie is pretty limited...too low capacity. I wish they have unlimited connection.

Navigon looks cool, but is the android version available yet? I have been to their site but only have for iphone?? Dont know how much is it including Australian Map??

Navigon is available in the market, as is CoPilot and a few others. I prefer CoPilot of those two but am really waiting for Sygic's Aura, which looks awesome.
In China, KLD（凯立德） and Gaode（高德） have published NAV software based on android OS, and it run smoothly.
Aura is very nice indeed, but it wont be available soon.
I asked this to Sygic and they said that iPhone version will be available FIRST.
Then Android ...
Now you can wait for a year or two

The trial version works great.
Once activated with a bought key it stops working.
Wierd.
I have CoPilot and Sygic on my Desire and both work fine.
I was not so impressed with Navigon.
I have iGO on my diamond and it beats all three of them qua quality, but must say Aura looks good.
i've just finished to install Igo Amigo for my Desire, and is working so good . For Europe (for me, I've been in many countries) is the best...for America, i think another one like tomtom you should choose.
If anyone is planning on using the hacked-to-work-outside-US Google navigation ("Maps brut"), I wouldn't bother. I've used it and decided it was no replacement for a proper paid GPS application. Turn by turn voice cues are erratic and often late or not-present, and for some reason the next road to be taken is always "unknown". I missed turns twice because of the lack of cues.
I used Google navigation for a 2 1/2 hour journey, in that time the phone went from 2/3 battery to severe battery warnings and red indicator. This was with an old, non-official car charger plugged in! I strongly suspect that the frequency of the screen update and the use of 3G are probably culprits, not to mention the frequent re-routing as I missed turns.
My old WinMo phone used to run CoPilot 7 and would do substantially better with no in-car charging.
What is the battery life like with the £20 CoPilot? Is a proper in-car charger a must for journeys > 3h?
I had some issues on copilot 7 WM with mapping. The maps were quite old and sometimes the routing was very odd. On test routes where I knew where I was going it would sometimes take me off in what I knew to be a longer way round by far. I'm sure there will be much newer maps on version 8.
The Navigon I find is very good but only annoying thing I find is landscape view. Between the bars on the software and the taskbar on the handset, the map only uses about half the available screen which is disappointing.
If anyone knows if it is possible to view more fullscreen please correct me.

CoPilot appears to have a cycling option, Navigon not.

I'm not a cyclist, but shouldn't ANY of them do as long as you stick to the roads? I don't know of any that have off-road capability...
Yeah, I COULD follow the roads they suggest, but I don't fancy cycling on motorways/highways.
Don't want off-road, just want small quieter roads...

I'm pretty sure you can tell CoPilot to ignore certain roads...
Co-pilot has a walking and a cycling mode. Haven't tried them out yet though.

TomTom 6 om my Diamond was phenomenal, and was by far the most customisable for me. (downloading voices, maps, POI, speed cams etc). I know that TomTom are releasing a ver for Android soon, but does anyone know what the current developments are? Just waiting on my DESIRE now, and am ready to go!! If not anytime soon, I might have to settle with CoPilot, as it has Australia Maps, and South Africa maps (worldcup). How good is CoPilot is though Australia? Anyone know? And do I need an Internet connection to run it?
the best I tried so far and worked brilliantly even in Cyprus is sygic 10 mobile maps!

you might need to install software like "bluetooth gps provider" or "Bluetooth GPS" on archos and something like "Bluetooth GPS Output" on your gps receiver (at market) or "GpsGate" for windows mobile (phone only).
I shared my Nexus Ones gps via bluetooth to my A43, it was very simple and worked with any program I used.
I did a search and had found some usb bluetooth receivers around $50-60, probably don't need anything special to get the job done.

I use a hama bluetooth gps with Google navigation.
I intend to port my own aviation navigation software as soon as I get some time

I use an iBlutooth gps receiver and it works with google and Oruxmaps, no problem.
Check out Orux maps for use with aviation. He has PC software to import geo-referenced charts. It works great with charts from FAA Aeronav. It's one of the main things I bought my tablet for. I was using my phone in the cockpit.

I used NDrive and Google Maps on my A43, I use Sygic Aura on my Nexus One (actually bought this one, it is really nice and in the general Android Apps & Games forum I started a thread of discount codes). Ndrive is a little more friendly to the resistive screen as its controls are larger and easier to hit.

On the Archos: Bluetooth GPS by Googoo Android.
On my phone (an Eris): Bluetooth GPS Output by Meowsbox.
Both are free on the market, but "output" is limited to 10 minutes. If it works, its only about $1.60 for the full version.
Turn on bt on both devices, start output on phone, then start the one on the Archos. Pair and connect. Once you start seeing the readings on the Archos, you can start Google Maps and navigate! Google Maps will kick you to the settings to choose "choose bluetooth gps".

Papago X5 failed on my 101 as well, but NavDroyd and Sygic Aura work like charm.

Globalsat bt-359 is a nice size, works well and is the best GPS I have ever used.
I use my wm phone MWG Zinc II as the gps receiver, the wm phone install the app gpsgate to become a bluetooth gps receiver, then use google map in archos to connect to the wm phone through the bluetooth.

Did the same thing with my old Omnia...using GPS2Blue...works with CoPilot, Google navigation & Sygic Aura (only 3 tested so far...
Tried phone but takes longer to fix, much worse sensativity in bad signal areas.
Plus I want phone for tethering sometimes
The bt-359 is amazing. Seconds to fix (warm start) indoors (none of my other GPS devices work in house). Also worked in a city, in car with coated windscreen with GPS just chucked in pocket down beside gearstick (also dropped in same location on another car the other day it didn't loose signal once).

I can't even connect. I can pair the devices but thats it, its not actually connected. If I long press on the nexus one device entry the only option that comes up is unpair. Anyone else get this?
Its identical if I try it from Archos to Nexus one i.e. the N1 has paired with the archos, but there is no option to connect.

It will keep saying that connect but not fair until you start your GPS software if you configure the GPS correctly.
Any one can suggest a good incar mount for the TF101 ?
Also is there any app for gps (like tomtom) for the tf101, as i have read there does not seems to have any one made specificaly for the tf101 or any other tablet anyway ?
as i know, there is no gps aplication for the transformer ,because of the rasolution. But you can lnstall a software with the best rasolution, that there is,i think 800x480 and you will see the map only on a part of the screen...

There are SEVERAL gps software solutions that not only work on the Transformer, but take advantage of the full resolution. I don't know why people think there aren't any for tablets?
The one I use: Copilot Live Premium (Europe). I've been driving all over the South of France and back to Belgium just last week. It's great if you can keep the reflections to a minimum.
Google navigation works great, if you have a portable wireless hotspot (ex: mifi), or if you download the itinerary before going, or if you tether it to your phone. I tried all of these successfully.
OsmAnd+, NavDroyd, will work at full resolution.
Both Sygic and Navigon are optimized(fullscreen) for Honeycomb.

Navigon is marked as incompatible with the TF101 on the market. Last time I tried it, there was no way to get the menus up on HC. Has there been an update that fixes this?

For first tests the free Navid might be worth a try. I myself used MapDroid and Google Navigation for first tests.
Because MapDroid only shows your position and has no rooting cababilities, I'm searching for a nice offline navigation app for both my TF and SGS2.
How satisfied are people with NavDroid? Should I invest more?
I've purchased NavDroyd in anticipation of having to travel in several countries in Asia, where my normal GPS navigation software won't work for lack of maps or licenses. I haven't tested it on the road, but I have played around with it from my couch.
There are several problems using Navdroyd, but to its credit, it's the maps that are mostly the problem - not the software. The maps themselves come from the wonderful Openstreet map project, a collaborative wiki style world map that anyone can use and contribute to.
Main problem: in non Western countries, leave the big city centers, and you might as well ask the locals for your way - the maps are sometimes very incomplete. A lot of the data is contributed by individuals that have uploaded their GPS tracks on the site and have themselves typed the street or city names. Again, not NavDroyd's fault.
Osmand, Osmand+, Mapdroyd, Osmdroid and so on - all use the free maps from the Open Street Map project.
Quite frankly, I think I will most likely stick to Google Maps when in remote places. It won't offer navigation, but with the ability to download a 10 km radius map, and having studied the maps and the sites/itineraries I'm going to use, it should be more than enough.

**Sygic does work on the transformer.
I was looking for a GPS app that works well offline, with good route adjustment, and this is the best I've used. NavDroyd took a while to get the maps and then couldn't find a GPS signal, so I moved on and didn't really test the product. Copilot looks good, but the USA map pack was over a gig, and I only wanted one state. It's possible you can choose individual states, but I didn't get far enough to determine this.
Sygic, for me , works perfectly. Can pick which states you want to download. I'm pretty sure they even use TomTom maps. You get two apps, one to download the maps and the GPS app itself. Lots of choices for voices (U.K, Australian, American English's in male or female, as well as many languages). The UI could possibly be better, and in the menus the very bottom of the screen is cut off, but half of the buttons (usually back or okay) still show so there's no problem. By this I mean only the lower portion is cut off, not half are missing, if that makes more sense. The maps are great, though sometimes cluttered with gas stations or other useful landmarks (these can be turned off). During navigation your MPH (or whatever unit you choose) is on screen, with ETA, time until next navigational action (exit, turn, etc.) and even the speed limit. The voice gives warnings usuall at 1 mile prior, 2/3 and then gets almost annoying so you don't miss the turn (probably adjustable?).
I'm probably forgetting some stuff, but this is exactly what I was looking for. Never have to touch it so I just set it in the passenger seat and turn up the volume. Might not be the best out there, but I don't have any complaints so I stopped looking.

Sygic,Navigon,Copilot all work just fine in full screen(menus and everything) on the Transformer.
I know this because i tried all of them. Do not know about other apps but these work like they should.
I'm interested - how do you install sygic on the TF? Is it the official version?
To be honest, I started just downloading the apps offline after the first two, as I wasn't hopeful and wanted to test them first. I like to tell myself I'll buy the real version, but who knows.
It's possible that it wouldn't allow you to purchase from the market since it's not officially compatible, but I do not know. In any case side loading the newest version is what I did. Not sure if it was a cracked apk or not. Also can't remember if I had to sign up for an account, but downloading maps and everything worked fine after installation (and was free).

Google Navigation is pretty good. If youre in the car just use the phone as a mobile hot spot. You have a lighter, get a car charger plug for the phone so it doesnt die and use it all of the way.
Im looking forward do doing something of the like while driving up to visit my grandparents in the near future. Road tripping with internet, its the future!
I have IGO on my htc hd2 and it is working well on it but when i transfer it to the iconia it refused to work because the screen resolution how i can make it open??
i was able to run igo some days ago at iconia but the max resolution of igo is 800x400 or something like that - so it looks ****ty on tablet.
right now there is no igo version which will properly run on tablets.
but let's still have hope that it will be changed.
