Desire HD Screen Issue - Desire HD General

Hello all and thanks for reading my thread.
I have searched high and low for this same issue, but found nothing similar anywhere unfortunately.
I have recently noticed that at all times, the screen seems to produce some horizontal lines which flicker often ... I am finding it hard to explain the problem itself, but I have not dropped the phone nor hit it or w/ever.
All I can think of is that I played a lot of this one game on it and it could have affected (overheat?) the GPU or something along those lines...
I am really not sure, but bottom line is that now I see all these issues on the screen, and camera and some games are off limits to use as they look very confusing...
Anyone has any idea what it could be?
G

Could you provide a screenshot?

It does sound like a hardware issue. I would send it for repair. They might even replace it. Maybe you could take a video of it happening.

(I assume you tried uninstalling the game and it didn't solve the problem. If your CPU is being overclocked try resetting it back to normal.)

If I were you and and also had a warranty on my phone I would take that to the store and get that fixed

Are screen issues/hardware issues fully covered by warranty? As I talked to an HTC support dude and all he said was we can book a repair and if it's not covered by warranty we'll send you a quote, £20 if you don't want the repair, if you don't pay either we'll get rid of the phone in 3 months...
So I don't wanna really send it off then find my parents get a £100 bill of which they don't know of :/

Most likely the lines are caused by a malfunctioning LCD. This can happen on its own or by physical abuse. Carrying your phone in your back pocket can cause this. If the phone looks great on the outside (no sign of big nicks from being dropped or warped from carrying it in your pocket) then HTC should find no reason to not fix it under warranty. Sometimes things go bad on their own.

Hey,
thanks everyone for your replies. I tried installing a different ROM (Cyan) on my DHD and it still seems to have the same issue, tried changing the cpu and gpu voltages, playing with temperatures etc, but to no avail..
I guess the LCD did go wrong, so Im sending it to Vodafone (UK) for repair. The only thing is that they will probably send me a refurbished phone if they cant fix it which wouldnt really be my first choice, but oh well! Could be worse I guess...
Thanks again for all the feedback

HTC Hermes 200 Screen Issue

Hi,
I'm pretty distressed at the moment. On Sunday while out I noticed that the alignment of my screen was out. I realigned the screen and the problem seemed less but the problem came back after a minute or two.
After some Googling I tried the credit card trick for solving the alignment issue and now my problem is much much worse. I can not align the screen because I go in a never ending circle.
I suppose the best way I can describe the issue is, if drawing on a program like Note, the screen goes further out of alignment the further to the right of the screen I go. If I run the stylus down the right side of the screen the line is drawn about 1/3rd of the way into the screen but goes further into the screen at an angle as I run the stylus down the screen.
If I try to draw a box in Note around the screen edge the effect is like this;

I also tried to loosen the screws at the back of the screen when slided out but I have now lost one of the screws and frankly I think the online fixes have done nothing for me except void my warranty and make it worse.
My questions are basically
1) Anyone else have the same issue and find a fix?
2) Will a missing screw and a homebrew version of Windows Mobile 6.1 mean the warranty is now void / HTC won't repair it and if so
3) Where / How much will it cost to get this repaired?
I really love my TyTN but it cost far too much for me to just "replace" and I really could do with it being repaired for under £100 or preferably for free.
Danny
This problem has been around since the Hermes first came out. There are those that claim that various things will work to cure the problem. Having had a Hermes that did this I can say nothing worked reliably or fo more than short periods.
My suggestion is to revert to the original ROM or flash an official new one and then take a chance with that missing screw for a repair under warranty. I can see you getting a service centre to repair for £100 (though you coul check this out) I have also seen repairs supposedly done (usually an LCD/digitizer combo replacement) that continue to show the problem. I have certainly seen cases where folk have replaced the screen themselves and it has not cured the problem. Hence my guidance for a warranty repair/replacement.
Mike
Thankfully I found the missing screw yesterday on the floor, chance of chances.
I will try to flash the old rom and send for a repair, I contact HTC though their site. Do they reply often? Sometimes I've e-mailed companies and been ignored.
Might be worth giving them a ring?

Hermes Screen (Digitizer?) broken

Hi everybody,
I have a question regarding the HERMES screen/digitizer with which i have always had problems...
I have been using my O2 XDA Trion for a bit more than a year now and i have always had the screen (dis)alignment issue. As i do not have warranty anymore i decided to check out the source of the problem one week ago, so I did a lot of research (also in this great forum ) and diss/reassembled the Trion without any problems. The problem now is : While I was testing the Trion's touchscreen with the included pencil suddenly the screen behavior changed. I am, as you can see on the two pictures below, not able to get in to the lower right corner of my screen anymore:
{

"lightbox_share": "Share",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
There is no way to get in the lower right corner of the screen, even touching at the very low+right point doesn't work. My questions therefore are:
- Do you think the root cause is a digitizer failure? (The LCD itself still works flawlessly...)
- Do you think buying + installing a new digitzer might fix the issue? Might it also fix the screen alignment problem?
- How "hard" is it to install it? Through my research in this forum i heard that soldering is needed?
Thank you very much for your answers in advance,
Cheers,
Philipp
Looks like a digitizer issue as you can't get any sort of selection to happen in that area but the LCD is not damaged as you said.

That's very probably true. The other thing that can cause wierd effects is anything that may be pressing on the digitizer around the edges underneath the bezel. Unfortunately some Hermes suffer from the digitizer remaining sensitive to touch even under the lip of the casing.
Regardless, I would not be tempted to replace the digitizer only. Although it's theoretically possible, it's not an easy job (LCD and digitizer are stuck together and contacts have to be made, positioning accurate , danger of cracking the LCD etc etc). Despite extra cost I would personally replace LCD/Digitizer as one unit.
One final point is that replacement carries a chance that things will not be perfect after replacement. This is because of various sensitive parts that can be affected when dismantling. eg. the d/pad connector.
Mike
Other way would be to find a "broken" Hermes (make sure its not the same problem or whitescreen) and use the whole slideout screen section. I did this and it worked fine...
Got my spare Hermes off ebay....
Cheers...
Hi guys,
just wanted to give you some information on the results.
I ordered the replacement screen 2 weeks ago here in Germany for about 45Euro (which is quite cheap i think, yeah ).
Everything worked fine so far. I installed the screen as described and it directly worked without problems. I have been using the Trion for more than one week now and the best thing is : Even the screen alignment problem seems to have dissappeared with the new screen, yeeppeh
Btw: I was a little surprised but the "new" replacement screen had the same date of manufacture on it as my "old" screen (which is in fact >2 years old). Nevertheless it worked...
So thank you all for your responses and help!
Cheers,
Philipp

Faulty Xperia - Ideas

Hi guys, I appreciate that this may not be the correct Forum but I get alot of knowledge from this site so if you guys dont know, no one will!!
My Xperia optical pad/joystick is having a mare...each time i rub my finger over it, my X1 trys to dial out and skips to menus. The phone has apparently become "moist" acording to the Vodafone shop (Which to me seems like an excuse)
I ahve wiped the device back to factory settings and the same errors keep happening. I have turned the Opt Pad off in settings but the pad still reacts to touches and just jumps though menus and try's to make calls!!
Is there a way that I can get this fixed or resolved or has anyone else got any ideas. This may be a hardware fault.
Thank you all.
Well I can imagine dust being behind the scroll 'wheel'. How about you try to blow it out with a can of compressed air?

Hi,
Thank you, I have used a can of air and this seemed to make little difference.
Maybe I could get the device apart and give it a pro clean although I feel the actual joystick me be capput :/
Other ideas?
Thanksagain.
Moist? The only way I can see a phone becoming moist is either from a bit of rain or sweaty hands. Either way, phones are designed to withstand this otherwise they would be completly useless for outside use..

I have the same issue. It does seem to happen more when I have been using the MobiPocket Reader to read a book for a while ... maybe my sweaty thumb is causing the issue ;-)
Seriously though, if this is really true about moisture I may have to trade my X1 in, it drives me nuts when this happens.
Is there a way to clean the optical joystick properly? (I'm going to try the air-from-a-can idea as well)

Nah, AutoScroll just irritates me , get distracted for a second and you lose your place.
I've resorted to using 'tap the screen to go to next page' option. Seems to work well BUT the point is the X1 shouldn't have this issue.
Vodafone have offered to 'repair' it for me, since it's still in warrenty, but it means sending it away for 10-14 days and in the meantime they can give me a 'loaner' which will of course be a peice of crap (I'll just use my TYTN).
Update:
I have found the issue! After looking on Google I came across a YouTube video of how to dismantle and reassemble the X1.
Turns out one of the transistors on the Optical pad circuit board had become slightly coroded, so I cleaned this up with a small soft brush and a minute drop of meths and put it back together and BINGO!
Also while the screen was out I left it overnight in airing cupboard in a ziplock bag with a pack of Sylica(Spelling) Gell.
Search YouTube for: "Xperia assemble Front/Back" User; CKY1
Hope this goes to help someone.
Cheers guys
in my case, I just adjusted the joystick to lower sensitivity...It worked without surgery..
so technically vodaphone was right. and it was a moisture problem.

Warranty situation, help appreciated!

hey guys, I need some advice on what to do. Situation as follows:
1. Not easily shown and randomly occuring screen defect, color patches appear, blue bands dance around. (as in, Fault? what fault?! like i had with a different product)
Post4 -only way to reproduce the problem, does it happen to you?
2. Bought HD2(Leo WWE UK) through Expansys china , as I'm in China atm, expansys is located not in my city so I can't reproduce the problem to them myself (no idea where the actual repair center is, expansys isn't picking up calls, and theres no "htc china").
3. Returning back to Australia in 2 weeks, what happens to the warranty?
Just a few obstacles it seems.
Could anyone share some knowledge? would mean a lot for me. Thanks!
i don't want to scare you mate but i've read there are chinese fakes on the market, it's possible you've got one. i suggest you contact htc australia and explain your situation, there must be a way they can help. good luck!
If you got it from Expansys, I doubt it's a fake. I think you're just gonna have to persevere in getting touch with them, even if it's after you get back home. The warranty will still stand, but you'll probably have to send it back to Expansys.
It clearly needs replacing from what you've described.
johncmolyneux, think ur right, called expansys HK (not cn) they said i'll have to go through them, can't go htc directly. so no possibility to take to a htc authorized repair place in Australia right?
..wonder if I can send to Au eXpansys
the bigger issue:, on its own myHD2 goes retarded infrequently, like every 2 days, for 1/2seconds to 5seconds only. so i'm worried about them not seeing the problem and not fixing it.
wonder if it happens to all HD2's actually, sorry to sound sadistic, but below is the only way I can make it happen. otherwise the phone does it on its own every now and then.
Only way to reproduce it is by supporting at the front, on both sides with my thumb at TF3D slider height, and then pressing in from the back around the center also at slidebar height (tho sometimes a little more pressure is needed).

It's good that you can reproduce the problem. I tried it on mine and it didn't do anything unusual, so it's definitely not all HD2s that do it. (Maybe it's only mine that doesn't do it )
I don't know if the guy will be able to reproduce it, probably try at few times and say theres nothing wrong. ><
reckon Au Expansys can take it in?
how long does it take ususally?

I have no idea mate. You'd best ask expansys those questions. I can just imagine the first response to the pic you've posted though... "Those blue lines are on the wallpaper" lol.
Good luck getting it replaced.
sigh, its hard to reproduce it, you can use it for an hour and not have the problem show.
they said the process is around 2 months. i might just live with it. usually, i press somethin on the screen, it goes away
2month is a long time for high tech stuff!

2 months to get it replaced??? That's ridiculous. Surely that's not right?
apparently it goes to HK expansys (im in sh) then they send it off for fixing. they mentioned 4-8weeks.
The problem doesn't occur all the time, so it annoying to not have it for 2 month and have it back un fixed.
HOw long should it be normally??

What Happened
I was using Instagram on my Samsung Galaxy S4 (i9505), after leaving it for a few minutes. Upon returning and pressing the home button, the screen began to fill with green block lines moving down the screen (as on the video).
Current Issues
When I turn my phone on, the center of the screen is filled with green block lines moving down the screen (as on the video). Rather than showing my installed apps etc.
The same occurs when I try to use recovery and download modes
Videos and Screenshots
I have uploaded a video and screenshots of what my phone currently looks like on boot, after the above:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=nlCvsjQEqkY
I've checked, there are no marks or damage to the screen.
And upon unscrewing the phone and looking at the motherboard etc., there doesn't seem to be any damage to the hardware either as below:

Just because you see no physical damage to the motherboard does not mean that the motherboard isn't the culprit. Another gentleman was having a similar screen issue and ended up reflowing (applying heat so the existing solder melts) the GPU in an attempt to fix it. I don't recall if he did get it fixed or not, but whether he did or didn't isn't relevant. What is relevant is that you clearly have a hardware issue here. Take the phone in for service.

Have you had experience with this fault before, do you know what the exact culprit is and how to repair? Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Free mobile app
There could be multiple causes for the problem you're having. That's why I recommended taking it in for service.
Although I'm glad someone has responded to my thread, you haven't actually told me anything of any real usefulness. Instead you've just told me to get it fixed (which is why I've came to this forum, so I could be told how to fix it myself)
My primary reasoning for coming to this forum, was to be pointed in the right direction when it comes to fixing the hardware i.e. replace this or that cable etc.
If you could help in that regard, this would be fantastic
No, I told you to take it to the service center, because they can pinpoint exactly what is causing the problem. Otherwise you're tossing darts blindfolded. You're guessing where the bullseye is and hoping you hit it. In short, it's not something you can fix yourself, unless you happen to have a solder reflow workstation.
