[DEV] Hyperterminal to run via USB to Serial cable. - Acer Iconia A500

I am after ahyperterminal like program to run via USB to serial cable. It may exist already or if some one is interested in developing just let me know and we can talk.
Sent from my HTC Desire running Ginger Villan 2.7 using XDA Premium App

would also love this.

+1 for this idea.

This would be sick! But is the [App] flag appropriate?

Yeah not to sure about the app flag thing, i am a bit of a noob, so wasnt sure what to put.

I got my USB Serial Device working yesterday.
I use screen as terminal emulation. I posted a short howto on http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/19724-serial-terminal-app/page__view__findpost__p__215393
If you get you usb->tty device working with your kernel this should work your device too.

sounds like an opportunity for someone to make an APK/driver with...

Hopefully it wont get flagged to the app section since it is development related, but back on this topic, It would be awesome to be able to do that, I have a few usb -> serial adapters that could be used

Thanks derpeter. Will give that a go.
Should I change the tag to [DEV]?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App

It is really good idea.

Yes, change tag to DEV and this thread could stay here but it will should have something related to development , if it will become another useless chat plenty of crap, trolls and flaming posts I will move /close immediately.

Where did you install 1.19? The busybox installer app from the market installs it but it still does not have microcom in it. /system/xbin/busybox microcom gives me a "applet not found" error
Update: Ignore this, apparently the following busybox installer's v1.19 has microcom:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jrummy.busybox.installer
Thanks again.

Does it have usb-serial drivers in it to connect a usb to rs232 converter? I think module name should be something like ftdi_sio.ko

[Q] Overclocking GummyJar 2.5

Sorry if I'm missing something, but is there a new way to overclock this rom? I've tried the stuff in that thread posted a while ago, I don't think that method works with this rom anymore. I was wondering if there was any other new ways to do it? And also, is there a way to keep it overclocked after you reboot?

You might need to get superuser first.
Open terminal emulator and type su and enter. Then run it.

I think he might be talking about this: http://code.google.com/p/milestone-overclock/
I hadn't ever thought of searching for a milestone app. I'm gonna download it and give it a try.
EDIT: Apparently it is on the market as well.
To be honest. Ive tried some of the other ways. I find the droid overclock by Jrummy is the best thing out there period. Because it does so much for than a normal overclocker. Give it a try. Honestly its the best thing out there.

Are you talking about Jrummy's app or his script? The script is included in Fission and it's really easy to use from terminal emulator. If you have it on your phone you just run:
Code:
$su
#overclock.sh
Then just follow the script.

Easy root access for (nand) HD builds

Here's a very easy way to gain root access to your Nand HD builds. Some have mentioned something called z4root from the market but every time i put that in search it couldn't find it. What i DID find was an app called Super Manager that works like a charm and has many functions such as task manager, apk manager, file explorer, and app back up. What you want to do first is go to settings(where you can access just about anything..shake capture, full screen mode, font size..etc.)then go to 'enable root function'. After that, you'll be able to go into root explorer..and enjoy.
If you can't find them on the market, you can always find them HERE
hey thanks lude. that page must have eluded me cause i had no idea it existed..probably because i never really checked the android only pages. i usually hovered around the hd2 android pages.anyways,thanks.i have one question for you..i hear allot about busybox but i'm not exactly sure what it is..or the magic behind it. could you explain?

Basically it gives you additional unix/linux commands so you can deploy different tasks at the root level. Similarly, it's like having a registry editor in windows for you to slice and dice around.
i cant remove apps from system
but titanium backup have root right
is this will help ?

Edit: I've gotta say this is definitely worth a go. Don't know if everything works as described, (such as app backup) but I'm definitely looking at my system files. [Q] Galaxy 3 - Win7 x64 - no ADB connect

Hi all,
I'm using HTC HD2 running NAND Android. I tried many builds, and even I can compile "my clone" of released build before flashing. I use ADB and Droid Explorer fluently.
So ... now my friend come with Galaxy 3. I want to help him with few issues. First I wanna to look inside, if I can see any problems. But ... I'm NOT able to have ADB connect.
The comp is Win 7 machine 64bit. With HD2 works well. With Samsung we tried several driver versions. I can have valid Samsung devices in Device manager, but ADB does not connect.
Is here, or there any guide, how to make it communicate?
thanks
PS. I tried the "search", but either the answer is not here, or I'm blind

A few questions about Custom rom's.

I know this is the wrong section but I got some kind of feeling that there are more people looking in this section.
I have read some guides in the Development section (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537'
But I got some questions about rooting/S-off.
Why is rooting/S-off necessarily, why can't I just put the rom on my SD and go right into recovery mode and boot it up from there?
Also the program visionary plus, I hate that thing so much.... At this step:
Open Visionary and tap temproot, then attempt permroot now. Your device will reboot.
How the hell do I open it? I use Astro File manager or something to go to the file but I can't install the program on my mobile/SD card >.<
Also what do I need to do more besides Wiping my phone? In this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11557769
It says to flash a Radio is this a must? Or is the S-off/Root enough.
Thanks already

No, the DHD has a protected system which precludes overwriting the system partition so without S-OFF you can not make any permanent changes.

Don't use it then the instructions here, achieve root without the use of visionary.

sorry to hear that. it's news to me, though. i downloaded it (CWM), and used it last night in the process of flashing the rom, no issues. but i understand the whole 'there may be issues, so i think i'll wait - don't want to brick my phone' line of thought. good luck when you get there. i'm sure you'll be fine if you follow the various guides posted on here. they worked an absolute treat for me (and i'm the definition of n00b).

So basically I'm screwed? Since I need to downgrade to root, and to backup you need to have root >.< but when you downgrade you lose everything xD
I will try it tonight ._.
If you want to back up the new GB OTA ROM then yes but if you just want to back up your apps then No, you don't need root.
Titanium works with root but doesn't need it. Also, if you ticked to let Google keep a backup then your apps will be re-downloaded when you next perform a wipe.

Using Windoze is great....
One word for you: Linux.
At the risk of high jacking this thread, have you installed HTC Sync? Can you connect to HTC Sync? If not, try another USB port (if using front port use back ports or vice-versa). If none work uninstall HTC Sync and reinstall it after rebooting PC.
If that works when you are in adb (making sure USB Debugging is on) try
Code:
adb devices
Do you get a result?

About 2 of them app(ereader.apk and widget.apk),as i know, the ereader.apk is a primary and most importantm, whether the widget working, it not influence on system .
About ROM,it is desire hd ROM for HD2(no offical version),android2.3.3,mix sense2.1 and sense3.0,nor pure sense2.1.i think them maybe reason.

Ok,thanks so nuch.i am waiting........
Im not 100% on this but you could try either this ROM or this ROM. i couldn't find much info or any at all if it had it working or it didnt. i would think though if it wasn't working they would of listed it somewhere in the thread. If you still dont have any luck trying to find a ROM then i would check out this webpage. It lists all the ROMs that are posted on XDA in a much easier way to find them. it also gives some nice (but short) info on each ROM. you can also click "show all android builds/ROMs which will give you a lot of ROMs to look through.
as always double check to make sure the ROM you flash is right for your phone.
neither of the ROMs listed above are sence 2.0 but if you want to try this ROM but im not sure if it has it working or not. again i didnt see if it was or if it wasn't. if you find the apk you could always try to place it inside system/apps to see if it would work.
oops. not sure how to fix it if you already tried but i can say that some ROMs it just wont work on even if you try that so maybe the problem is with your ROM and not how your placing it in system/apps.
