[Q] Overclocking GummyJar 2.5 - Droid 2 General

Sorry if I'm missing something, but is there a new way to overclock this rom? I've tried the stuff in that thread posted a while ago, I don't think that method works with this rom anymore. I was wondering if there was any other new ways to do it? And also, is there a way to keep it overclocked after you reboot?

Download and installed jrummy's app from the market

You might need to get superuser first.
Open terminal emulator and type su and enter. Then run it.

what is it?

I think he might be talking about this: http://code.google.com/p/milestone-overclock/
I hadn't ever thought of searching for a milestone app. I'm gonna download it and give it a try.
EDIT: Apparently it is on the market as well.

To be honest. Ive tried some of the other ways. I find the droid overclock by Jrummy is the best thing out there period. Because it does so much for than a normal overclocker. Give it a try. Honestly its the best thing out there.

Are you talking about Jrummy's app or his script? The script is included in Fission and it's really easy to use from terminal emulator. If you have it on your phone you just run:
Code:
$su
#overclock.sh
Then just follow the script.

So, Now that you're rooted.....??

What do you guys do first with this bad boy now????
I am looking for some ideas from you guys on what you guys do after rooting.
I know I want to remove the bloat, but I am not sure how without paying for root explorer....
Anyways, feel free to leave words of wisdom about your rooting adventure!!!

I have adb only half working unfortunatly... I rooted without it using this: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-hacks/62450-how-root-without-using-adb.html
Anyone know of a free alternative to root explorer??? I suppose I could take the time to rm -r all through the terminal emulator... but that would take quite a while....
i have an incredible, and adb was the only way to root until a week ago. i have to say, i like adb better than the new easy root methods.

if you want a file manager astro is good. if you want the frills of root explorer, then get it. i prefer just using astro for file manager, and adb for everything else, but x users cant have custom recovery, and most x usere so not have adb set up.
and easy root methods are good for people who are not good with adb, but since android IS linix, you and the shell will cross paths evwntually.
ps. sorry if i came off strongly amd made lots of typos.

I can't get wireless tether to work.

LWPs just aren't worth it, the home screen is already slow enough, why bog it down even more and reduce your battery life at the same time. I can see how they're feasible for high-end devices, but not first-get armv6 devices.
Live wallpapers work fine on G1 and mytouch running OTA
Here's how
Uninstall any livepicker.apk
I put the com.android.wallpaper.livepicker.apk on my sd card and re-named it "live.apk" for simplicity then:
open up better terminal and run:
su
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /sdcard/live.apk /system/app
reboot
I ran a fix_permissions as well..

fix_permissions can be done with a custom recovery, terminal (though you might need busybox?) or in rom manager.

Because it has specified "honeycomb" as min. SDK level in the manifest file... somebody will have to change that to "8" or "9" I guess
then we will have to try and see if there is something missing from the framework etc...

You can pretty much guarantee it'll be using 3.0-specific calls for things like the GPU acceleration. There's a lot of new additions in the 3.0 SDK that the 2.x libraries just don't provide.
If it can be made to work, it probably won't be very worthwhile. It'd probably pay to stick to Dolphin HD or Miren or something in the meantime.
If someone has the patience to hack out the non-2.2 compatible bits and make it go usefully, then I'm happy to be proven wrong of course.

A few questions about Custom rom's.

I know this is the wrong section but I got some kind of feeling that there are more people looking in this section.
I have read some guides in the Development section (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537'
But I got some questions about rooting/S-off.
Why is rooting/S-off necessarily, why can't I just put the rom on my SD and go right into recovery mode and boot it up from there?
Also the program visionary plus, I hate that thing so much.... At this step:
Open Visionary and tap temproot, then attempt permroot now. Your device will reboot.
How the hell do I open it? I use Astro File manager or something to go to the file but I can't install the program on my mobile/SD card >.<
Also what do I need to do more besides Wiping my phone? In this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11557769
It says to flash a Radio is this a must? Or is the S-off/Root enough.
Thanks already

No, the DHD has a protected system which precludes overwriting the system partition so without S-OFF you can not make any permanent changes.

So basically I'm screwed? Since I need to downgrade to root, and to backup you need to have root >.< but when you downgrade you lose everything xD
I will try it tonight ._.
If you want to back up the new GB OTA ROM then yes but if you just want to back up your apps then No, you don't need root.
Titanium works with root but doesn't need it. Also, if you ticked to let Google keep a backup then your apps will be re-downloaded when you next perform a wipe.

Using Windoze is great....
One word for you: Linux.
At the risk of high jacking this thread, have you installed HTC Sync? Can you connect to HTC Sync? If not, try another USB port (if using front port use back ports or vice-versa). If none work uninstall HTC Sync and reinstall it after rebooting PC.
If that works when you are in adb (making sure USB Debugging is on) try
Code:
adb devices
Do you get a result?

[Q] Fast and Stable ROM/Kernel

Hey guys, I'm gonna root my dads phone and probably install a custom ROM on it since he complains about some stuff on his phone that I'm sure will be fixed.
Now this ROM must be stable and have some nice additional features and be fast.
First thing that comes to mind is CM7. Since this is what the core of my ROM i use on the nexus S.
But I dunno if there are better over here. Any other suggestions?
Also whats the most stable kernel here?
