[Q] Live Wallpapers - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Currently, I am using a fantastic ROM, but has no live wallpaper support. I would like to know if it is possible to add support to a MT3G ROM?

It could or could not, I'm not an Android expert but I do know that it's worth a shot. If it doesn't work you can always uninstall, should work like any other apk. (or not work like any other apk)

verified on 2 stock 2.2.1 MT3g 32b, gets a force close when trying to load... any other ideas?

A lot of roms can run live wallpapers, but the real problem is finding one that will work on the magic 32b or dream.
That said, does anyone know of perhaps a list of wallpapers confirmed to run smoothly on the more modest android devices?

I think this...

LWPs just aren't worth it, the home screen is already slow enough, why bog it down even more and reduce your battery life at the same time. I can see how they're feasible for high-end devices, but not first-get armv6 devices.

Live wallpapers work fine on G1 and mytouch running OTA
Here's how
Uninstall any livepicker.apk
I put the com.android.wallpaper.livepicker.apk on my sd card and re-named it "live.apk" for simplicity then:
open up better terminal and run:
su
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /sdcard/live.apk /system/app
reboot
I ran a fix_permissions as well..

Some of them do - cm wallpaper, that nexus one one on the market, physX...
It's just that it's probably one out of every 6 or 7 and is frustrating to weed them out.

I'm not sure I understand fix_permissions? Is that another command in terminal? Does my myTouch have to be rooted? Also, is the livewallpaperpicker.apk yoshua posted in this thread what you used?
Thanks!

fix_permissions can be done with a custom recovery, terminal (though you might need busybox?) or in rom manager.
Any livewallpaperpicker.apk should work

I don't have a custom recovery. Completely stock. Do I have to root my phone to run that script you posted?

DroidX Multi-touch keyboard for Froyo

Hey gang,
Many people have been wanting the Droid X/2 Multi-touch keyboard on ARMv6 froyo roms, so I went and fixed it for everyone.
This APK should work on *ALL* Froyo roms both ARMv6 and ARMv7, and may work on Eclair as well(I've not tested it)
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
There are two files in the zip,
push libjni_latinime.so to /system/lib
push droidx-keyboard-kaosfix-v3.apk to /system/app/
Please let me know if you find any bugs, and we'll see if we can sort them out.
Thanks to Invisiblek for the original APK.
If you like my work, think about donating to my coffee fund.
Kaos - when I go to launch it then it says Activity not found - com.android.inputmethod.latin
any ideas?
Did you reboot after installing it?
Thanks so much! I can finally stand texting on my phone
Sorry no.... (bag over head)

Launch and uninstall are my only options using astro
When I attempt to install, it gives me (2) buttons, "Uninstall" and "Launch". It thinks this app is already installed.... (it's not)
Is the "internal" package name the same as an existing (pre-installed) keyboard ? It comes up as "com.android.inputmethod.latin".

To be honest. Ive tried some of the other ways. I find the droid overclock by Jrummy is the best thing out there period. Because it does so much for than a normal overclocker. Give it a try. Honestly its the best thing out there.

Are you talking about Jrummy's app or his script? The script is included in Fission and it's really easy to use from terminal emulator. If you have it on your phone you just run:
Code:

#overclock.sh
Then just follow the script.

How to get MMS working on Cricket Froyo ROM's.

***CRICKET USERS ONLY***
Im writing this tutorial because I had a lot of problems getting MMS working with FROYO ROM's. I know theres cricket users that cannot get MMS working so here we go:
Download the Cricket V10 zip to the root of your card found here Cricket V10 (Thanks Token)
Download any Froyo ROM to the root of your card.
Download APN Backup & Restore from the market and backup your APN's.
Make sure your 3G Internet/MMS is working before you continue to flash FROYO.
BACKUP! current 2.1 ROM and then flash Froyo Rom like you would normally do.
Then flash the Cricket V10 zip.
Boot into phone download autostart root, and APN Backup & Restore from the Market. Open up APN B&R and delete current APN's and then restore the ones you backed up earlier. Once that is done reboot your phone.
Once phone is booted up grant autostart root permission and make sure you have working internet.
Now we get to the part where we get MMS working.
Delete the mms.apk located in system/app
Drop the attached mms.apk into system/app
Delete the telephony.db file located in data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases
Drop the attached telephony.db in data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases (Be sure to rename the telephony.db file you downloaded back to telephony.db before dropping it back into data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases)
Once this is done Reboot your phone and you should have working MMS with Froyo ROM's.
EDIT:Updated with new GB Mms.apk
Thanks goes to Token for his Cricket V10 Zip and for his help.
Thanks to Conap for the Mms.apk
Thanks to endoki for all his help/testing

Ya I was trying to figure out why the 3g kept cutting out and going to 1x but I think Cricket might be having some problems at the moment because they have changed servers a couple times tonight. Im in California yet the closest server on speedtest was in Kansas. an hour or so ago it was Maine and now its Missouri.
Anyways mms works along with everything else on GSB 2.1

A few questions about Custom rom's.

I know this is the wrong section but I got some kind of feeling that there are more people looking in this section.
I have read some guides in the Development section (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537'
But I got some questions about rooting/S-off.
Why is rooting/S-off necessarily, why can't I just put the rom on my SD and go right into recovery mode and boot it up from there?
Also the program visionary plus, I hate that thing so much.... At this step:
Open Visionary and tap temproot, then attempt permroot now. Your device will reboot.
How the hell do I open it? I use Astro File manager or something to go to the file but I can't install the program on my mobile/SD card >.<
Also what do I need to do more besides Wiping my phone? In this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11557769
It says to flash a Radio is this a must? Or is the S-off/Root enough.
Thanks already

No, the DHD has a protected system which precludes overwriting the system partition so without S-OFF you can not make any permanent changes.

So basically I'm screwed? Since I need to downgrade to root, and to backup you need to have root >.< but when you downgrade you lose everything xD
I will try it tonight ._.
If you want to back up the new GB OTA ROM then yes but if you just want to back up your apps then No, you don't need root.
Titanium works with root but doesn't need it. Also, if you ticked to let Google keep a backup then your apps will be re-downloaded when you next perform a wipe.

Using Windoze is great....
One word for you: Linux.
At the risk of high jacking this thread, have you installed HTC Sync? Can you connect to HTC Sync? If not, try another USB port (if using front port use back ports or vice-versa). If none work uninstall HTC Sync and reinstall it after rebooting PC.
If that works when you are in adb (making sure USB Debugging is on) try
Code:
adb devices
Do you get a result?

[Q] Fast and Stable ROM/Kernel

Hey guys, I'm gonna root my dads phone and probably install a custom ROM on it since he complains about some stuff on his phone that I'm sure will be fixed.
Now this ROM must be stable and have some nice additional features and be fast.
First thing that comes to mind is CM7. Since this is what the core of my ROM i use on the nexus S.
But I dunno if there are better over here. Any other suggestions?
Also whats the most stable kernel here?

You mean senseless or panache? Because any royal rom will most likely have everything working

RoyalGinger comes to mind if you want fast. It's what I'm using. You could also try Virtuous Unity which is a 3.0 ROM.

would a 3.0 ROM be stable though??
ALso what about MIUI, my dads coming from an iphone and I think he might like the styling.
Its great and got a lot of cool features over the other roms and the battery life is the best of any rom for any phone I have ever seen

i dont really feel like making a new thread, but i've tried rooting this phone like a billion different times but i get stuck on the same step in each and every different method.
When i get to terminal emulator and i type in cd/sdcard/(whatever the root files are in)
it always says"not found"
i cant evenn get to regular folders on the phone!! Its pissing me off because i need terminal emulator.
I guess I should get root explorer to try it, ES file explorer doesnt work I dunno why.

Maybe it is your SD card bad? Is it correctly mounted?

Type correctly, and include spaces that you're missing.
"cd /sdcard/"

He said that even file explorer does not see the files and folders on SD card. I think it just not mounted properly
