Hey guys,
First of all must admit i consider this to be a great site have been reading many threads since my first android phone. Now I've bought the iconia I've been looking into apps to personalize and so.
In the process I came across the following under manageapplications>all.
Com.compal.checkapkinstaller. and fwupdateservice...
Are these OK? Do fellow iconia owners see these too?
Running 3.1. Build: 4.10.13
Note:apologize if out there I tried a search and no luck. Thanks all

Best advice I can offer you is just to get used to your device. Get the feel of it and play with it. Once you have done this, then read the wiki so you understand more.
If after all of this you feel you want to change anything, do a search for it first, read up on it and then try it out.
There are plenty of apps/software/games/themes available for you to install on your HD. Apps/software & games which work on the HD can also be found in the wiki as well as in the software forum.
You can also change roms (operating system), but you will need to do some research on this first. Guide to flashing roms can be found here.
The most important thing of all is to research & read before trying anything. If your unsure of anything on any particular topic, ask your question within that relevant thread

Hi, this is my first post.
I apologize if there is already a thread on this subject but I couldn't find it. I have just started learning some java to begin making my own android apps. Is there a book/guide/web page/etc. that you can point me to so I can start in the right direction?
Thanks.
Try this one:

I wrote this thread a while ago which may be of some use to you.
The universal tutorials are taken from my software engineering course and i will be updating them as more are released. I would highly reccomend reading through them as they are incredibly helpful in learning the Java basics. There's also some useful Android java tutorials i've found there, such as making buttons, opening a new window, etc.

Ha, i am also a beginner and i've just faced the same problem of u just a few weeks ago. I've found many reference by most of them are too difficult for me.
Here i would like to recommed the 'Android development guild' it provide simple explainations and skeleton codes~ really suitable for beginners~
Thank you all for your help.

Hello, XDA, I need a lot of help. I have a Samsung Fascinate and an Acer Iconia Tab a500 and I really want to begin developing for the tablet. If any devs could tell me good programs to use or any tips, I would greatly appreciate it.
Wow, I spelled just about every thing wrong in the title...

And I thought chrash was some new shell command like chmod and chown.
If you google how to android development or something like that, there's a decent amount of articles and videos that can be rather helpful, I went through some eclipse Java tutorials that were rather nice a while back.

Another good thing - play with and modify the Google example apps provided on their developer site.
I learned Android development in about a week while recovering from back surgery by writing "MilesTrac Free" on a laptop from bed, and it was my first Java app. I do have a very strong background in software development though.
Hi guys, i've started THIS THREAD in the ANDROID APP/GAMES forums for more exposure. But every game that I personally shared was tested on our beloved Acer A500! I will post/update the other thread more regularly, this thread is just to give you guys a heads up. I'm sure some of us dont really go out of the A500 forums
Works like a charm. Thanks a million.
Order and Chaos
anyone get this to work with OaC?
