Where - Acer Iconia A500

Where is Acers GIT? Id like to setup my laptop to build for this (like most I have a few quams and glitches and images Id like to change) Im tired of waiting for updates...

I don't think they have one. They DO publish the kernel source (eventually), but no public git that I know of.

What is a GIT, if I may?

IF the htc hero releases...

can we get the source code for the HTC widgets and make them work for the normal android UI without rosie??
No. I'm pretty sure that the source code for anything is not included in the final product.

No the HTC framework (which they are dependant on) is closed source.
HTC hasn't released source code for anything so far, so I highly doubt we will see source for Hero. They are perfectly within their rights to do this too, except for the stuff they've done to the Linux kernel (cough Rogers Dream cough).
is their a way to make the source code available for the users? as in i buy the phone then do something to give you guys the source codes?

You won't have the source code, only the compiled binaries on the device. Of course we'd appreciate a dump of those too

My Hero G1 is NOT slow.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxLZOhUA3R0
Just figured I'd chime in. A review of the Hero (mobilecrunch I think) said that even the widgets on the real Hero hardware ran slow. I have a feeling it's just poor optimization on HTC's part but I could be wrong.

Why can't we port the .29 GSM Hero kernel working?

Maybe we already went over this but I can't remember. Why can't we port over the .29 kernel from the GSM roms?

I'm not scared. They have the kernel we need, they get all the fancy "shmancy" phones before we do. They won't share it and I'm pretty sure I know why so if they can't take a little poke then I suppose they should "bugger off!"

uhh... i'm a bit confused about the whole kernel thing regarding the hero.
i know that htc released the source code for the kernel... but i'm assuming that was the 2.6.27 right?
so i know that android 2.1 uses .29 to work, so how did the GSM hero people get that kernel and why don't we have a working .29 kernel for our phones?
please clarify?

I would like to try to put together a custom kernel for my Hero. But I am having trouble locating the .29 source. I synced up with http://android.git.kernel.org/kernel/common but that is the .27 branch. And most of the other stuff looks to be .27 as well. Is the only place to get the .29 source from the GSM hero? Thanks for any help.

I believe that is the only place to get the source. HTC hasn't released the cdma source yet. Is that our issue? Isn't it possible to use the gsm source?
found something helpful out
so when i run 'make menuconfig' front eh root directory of the HTC released .27 Hero source, under system type "Qualcomm MSM" is the system type. So when browsing through the link that I posted to the kernel git repo I found that there is a MSM branch, and it looks like it have some references to .29 and later kernel verions. Ill explore further and let you guys know.

My bad, I only checked the first link and assumed the second one was SDK too, as there are two floating around. Yours looks awesome, no disrespect at all of course!
@john: I'm not TS btw, no hard feelings. SDK builds have always been unuseable, that's just in their nature. Sure, they may be fun to play around with for a couple of hours, but as a build they're worthless, imo.

Honeycomb's Big Yeah Yeah Yeah...

So I installed the full SDK of Honeycomb and created the first AVD with it. I noticed something nice and promising for all us Archos IT holders. The hardware RAM by default is set to 256mb. Now, I'm no expert, but that tells me that it CAN run with our 256mb devices.
Now if only we had more developers! LOL

Or less broken USB ports so devs don't have to RMA their devices
When the source for HC comes out there will be one dev more.
Before that we have no chance.
So next week the xoom will be there and then google normaly releases the code right after that.
So lets hope.
Honeycomb SDK is out!!! go go go!!!
The Beta sdk was there already.
But that is not enough, we need the Sourcecode, not the Binaries that are working in Emulator.
playing around with it a little on the emulator...at the 101's resolution full tablet HC that we're used to seeing...
at 800x480 (for the 70) it seems to revert to "phone mode"
I could've swore I just read on Google that they released the source today for Honeycomb

No, that's the SDK (hence the SDK in the URL for the OS.
I made the same mistake though. I thought the SDK was needed for making ROMs...I had no idea the source is used...but hey...I learned something new here!
Yes, the SDK is used by developers to build software for the specific Version.
The Sourcecode is needed to port it to a Device.
The source is normally released a couple of weeks after the first device with the OS is launched. Since the XOOM (first device to be launched with 3.0) was released today, the source should be here in a couple of weeks... what this space.

Do you not think that the warranty would be in question, I mean I take it you have installed SDE on your device? I know the warranty states that it would void the warranty if the issue is as a result of installing the SDE. Do you think they would claim that this could have caused the failure? If they did then that would be almost an admission that updating the firmware could also cause this issue. If you do RMA your device and they don't question this then let me know so then I might bother sending mine back!

Do you go by a different nickname?
Anyway, SDK or not, the main thing started this thread about what that the emulator default is 256mb RAM. Since the "rumor" that concerned most of us was that Honeycomb would require 512mb of RAM to work, thus eliminating the Archos Gen8 devices from running it, is less of an issue.
It stands to reason that if the emulator default is 256, then a device only needs 256 to run it...so...we can get us some honeycomb sans the weird little ADHD furry creature running around.

SDE shouldn't be related to the issue because I never used a different kernel, only some additional modules.

The question is... once Google releases source code for Honeycomb, do we have archos drivers source to make the port? or it's closed source?
