I know. I'm hoping Xmas comes early with some custom GB Sense kernels.
Here's to hoping

Will this really help us? I mean, I know our phone is similar to the Evo and all but it's not like we were good to go with gingersense roms when the Evo gingerbread leak hit. We still needed to wait for our own leak before we could get those booting.

Now I would like some info on how the dev support is over here such as the best roms and kernels and is it easy to root.. Could you please share your experience with the epic (roms/kernels) and pros and cons would be great.. Thanks..

Rooting is extremely easy..I mean you can even use z4root app if you want to..otherwise we got 1 click root + clockwork..
As for development...its ok, no where as big as the EVO, but EVO has been out longer and people are more familiar with HTC..overall though its getting there..Cyanogen mod is in the works and some night builds are out..
We have a few roms to choose from, as for kernels..right now most of our custom kernels are for Eclair only..as we are waiting for them to release Froyo and with it comes source code (unlike HTC, Samsung releases source within a day or so)...
There are a few developments going on for building the kernel from scratch as well...
I think cyanogan team is working on making a universal kernal for all sgs devices so that we can use the other sgs stuff..(at least thats what I heard I might be mistaken)
Also we have a tool called Odin...which effectively makes our phones "almost" unbrickable...as its a tool used by Samsung themselves to flash roms..
Dev support is great. We should be getting cm6 rather soon as there are really just a few things left to fix and that will of course be the best rom. People running nightlies have been saying they're getting like 1400+ scores in quadrant so it'll be lightning fast.

wait I forgot the epic isn't on froyo yet, but 1400+ on 2.1 is just crazy.. What setup are you guys using?
Sent From My Htc Evo!!!
That was just one report of someone running a nightly of cm6. I mean the raw power is there but we'll have to see.
Also I believe cm is being developed on dk28 which is a leaked froyo build
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I just put cm6 on my phone and got a 1693 in quadrant so ya. Cm6 is fast.

I would be hesitant to move to the epic for the simple reason that samsung can't seem to get a timely update out and this limits what the developers can accomplish. At this point I wonder if samsung will release android 2.3 for the epic. With out an official release and the source code that goes with it, it is unlikely that we will see custom kernels for it.

Aosp Ics will Devs bring for DHD

Hi guys, while i love my Sense3 DHD, i was wondering when the ICS AOSP source drops will anybody here make a port of ICS for our DHD's?
(I know i proberly should sell my SGS and get a nexus-s hehehe)
If the source drops in full, then I would expect the Cyanogen team to make and release ICS, probably under the name (CyanogenMod 8). This would/ usually is ported to a large list of devices (Desire HD included).

Cyanogen already stated it will be CM9 as 8 was meant for honeycomb.
But it will take a long time :-( i think we have to wait 3 - 4 month ...

Yes your most likely right. As they said the source would be released with the release of the first device running it. So when in the first ICS device gonna be release? I know everyone is excited about this. Hell I am. But please understand that when rushed you end up with a product that has bugs and huge issues. Not to mention that HTC is not the first or the last group that has to have time with it before it can be released. Once you toss in the carriers, well we know how that goes lol.
i am wondering whether dhd will get a official ICS from HTC.

the device is going to be released in the first week or so of november which mean (or i think) a week or two after that ICS source will be released.

I would expect so, given the specifications of the DHD. HTC have mentioned releasing ICS for older phones. I guess it's the mid-range phones that won't be getting ICS.
All the same, the official release will come out much later than the cooked ROMs - and I know which one I'd prefer
Correct me if I am wrong, but if HTC updates its latest models/or if their newest mobile has ICS then wont it be easy to port it to DHD?|
I know it wont be a vanilla version then, but still.

If the hardware of the handsets is the same, yes. If not, no.
We have uploaded a small YouTube clip which is showing how the android 4 port is looking at the moment: ICS DHD
Nearly there...
LorD ClockaN has just fixed Hardware acceleration!!! It is so much quicker now... It won't let me post in the source port thread (need 10 posts first)!!! Another day or so and it will be fully usable I reckon...
Check it out...

It's 2d HW acceleration not 3D so the Rom is fast but 3d apps like the ics gallery google maps fc..

Im working on hw acceleration behind the scene , made progress
2D and 3D HW acc are working, All we need for a daily is video, and camera to be fixed, then some small bugs
I see you devs made some progress

2D HW and 3D HW accel. is only a hack but it is REALLY smooth and fast.

HTC List of devices that will get ics for sure at the beginning of the new year

the list included the following devices
HTC Sensation
HTC Sensation XL
HTC Sensation XE
HTC EVO 3D
HTC EVO Design 4G
HTC Amaze 4G
HTC Rezound
HTC Vivid
don't get shocked cause u didnt see Desire HD,htc said that this is the first list for devices that will get ics,and they will keep testing all other devices to see if is it possible to have ics,and will release a new list whenever testing is complete
in my openion this is how it goes, new devices will get it first, then they will say our dhd won't get it and finally they will release it =D
I hope!!!!
So? I love Sense, but I also have a HC tablet and let me tell you- the UI (ICS has virtually the same UI as HC) is brilliant. Once CM releases a build for DHD I'm dumping Sense and start using that.

I hope too!
Who needs official ICS with sense 2 when there's such a heaving dev community?
Well i think theyll release it for a newer phone of theirs, and the DHD/Inspire Devs will just port that release to our phones.. Lol
you guys seem to forget that XDA devs need a base to begin with, so the more bases and kernel sources HTC provides the better for us, for example before the WVGA sense 3.0 DHD/incredibleS and runny leaks all customs ports of sense 3 needed to resize the graphics which wasn't a walk in the park, equaly right now roms based on WVGA sense 3.0/3.5 are running so well because we already have Gingerbread kernel source from HTC
so yes even if we rely on custom roms we will always need a compatible base
the good news is that HTC committed to ICS on Sensation XL which is WVGA and has close specs including the same GPU/CPU and RAM as our DHD, a fully working port is almost guarranteed

Specifically with the Sensation XL
i wish !! D
We don´t need official ics release, we only need to wait devs to port it, and sure will be better than official one....
Thanks devs.
Theres nothing stopping HTC from upgrading the Desire HD to sensation XL performance. If we can do it at Dev level like with Android Revolution, including upping the CPU to a safe level like 1.2 Ghz, then HTC can do it. They're just being picky.
we believe in our developers

Can't wait for the roms to start popping up...
cyanogen will get it first. Unless some people and I mean (the awesome team of developers on here) team up and shoot it out like there isn't a tomorrow.
Excited about my EVO again!!!
Can't wait! Having this on the EVO will make me resist upgrading for a while longer!

Don't hold your breath...
I read elsewhere that even with 250gb+ of HD space and 16gb RAM were looking at 5+ hours to compile.
Not to mention all the tweaking that has to happen for the vanilla to work on specific devices.
Aaaahhhh can't wait. Too excited.

I could see the first CM9 build around the end of December or Mid January. Patience is the key.

Pretty sure that's what "Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Source Code Available Now!" in the title of the article means
First post for you yay!
Everyone sounds confident that we'll be getting ICS on the Evo. Has there been any confirmation (by the Cyanogen team or otherwise) that this device was going to make the cut? It's getting a bit long in the tooth, phone-wise. I'd love to eek out a few more months of use out of it though. Best phone I've had so far.

Cyanogenmod already said they'd work to develop an ICS build [CM 9] but refused to do so until official source was released, which it has been.
Right, but was the Evo 4G specifically mentioned as being supported? CM9 might not (probably won't) be available on all devices that CM7 supports.
It probably won't be supported on something like the Hero or older legacy devices which barely made the cut for CM7. I have a good feeling that the EVO will still get ICS because it hasn't had the life bled out of it yet like the G1 or other highly supported phones.
ive been waiting for this since honeycomb i am so excited and evo should make the cut its not to old of a device probably wont be an official release but still it works

What the LTE EVO means for the OG EVO (development wise)

So once the LTE Evo/One S/OneX makes it into the hands of developers, Will devs be able to glean anything from the new HTC handsets that will help in the development of ICS for our OG EVO?

Its the kernel thats really stopping it we have a aosp but sense needs to release the source code for the kernel for dev to get to working. its where the good stuff drivers are in. Its easy to port will need the kernel so......
And HTC is obligated to release kernel info within 30 days. If I remember correctly.

I believe that's only relating to an OTA update. It would only make sense that a newly released device would have a shorter time frame.
