Aosp Ics will Devs bring for DHD - Desire HD General

Hi guys, while i love my Sense3 DHD, i was wondering when the ICS AOSP source drops will anybody here make a port of ICS for our DHD's?
(I know i proberly should sell my SGS and get a nexus-s hehehe)

If the source drops in full, then I would expect the Cyanogen team to make and release ICS, probably under the name (CyanogenMod 8). This would/ usually is ported to a large list of devices (Desire HD included).

Cyanogen already stated it will be CM9 as 8 was meant for honeycomb.

But it will take a long time :-( i think we have to wait 3 - 4 month ...

Yes your most likely right. As they said the source would be released with the release of the first device running it. So when in the first ICS device gonna be release? I know everyone is excited about this. Hell I am. But please understand that when rushed you end up with a product that has bugs and huge issues. Not to mention that HTC is not the first or the last group that has to have time with it before it can be released. Once you toss in the carriers, well we know how that goes lol.

i am wondering whether dhd will get a official ICS from HTC.

I would expect so, given the specifications of the DHD. HTC have mentioned releasing ICS for older phones. I guess it's the mid-range phones that won't be getting ICS.
All the same, the official release will come out much later than the cooked ROMs - and I know which one I'd prefer

Correct me if I am wrong, but if HTC updates its latest models/or if their newest mobile has ICS then wont it be easy to port it to DHD?|
I know it wont be a vanilla version then, but still.

If the hardware of the handsets is the same, yes. If not, no.

We have uploaded a small YouTube clip which is showing how the android 4 port is looking at the moment: ICS DHD

Nearly there...
LorD ClockaN has just fixed Hardware acceleration!!! It is so much quicker now... It won't let me post in the source port thread (need 10 posts first)!!! Another day or so and it will be fully usable I reckon...
Check it out...

Ok you need to breathe buddy, it's just been announced it will most probably take a month before it will be available on HTC as they need to incorporate Sense to it.
well if you recall the desire made the jump from 2.1 to 2.2 pretty soon after the 2.2 announcement, considering the DHD is the new flagship phone id imagine a very similar situation if not there is always custom roms
Wonder if cyanogen will publish it before htc that will be sweet

The DHD will most likely be the first HTC handset to receive the update. However, how long this takes is anyone's guess. Then your carrier will modify the update, unless of course you got a stock unbranded DHD.
My money is on Cyanogen, real money. If CM releases 2.3 before HTC I'll donate again.

Nope, the roms can't be made until the source code is released or another device gets it to be ported over.
Roms can be made from the sdk but don't turn out very well to say the least.
I expect an announcement soon from HTC, i doubt they will let their flagship higher specs phone fall short against their direct competitor, classic desire was the first device to get froyo after the nexus
I'm betting on it being out around Christmas time,
Probably in 2 weeks we'll start to get them trickling out...
I hope that dhd will get it as soon as possible, but wouldn't be surprised if Samsung s get's it first considering cooperation of Google with them on new G phone.

Unfortunately the N1 was pretty much the same as the Desire. And was built by HTC. Now the situation is a little bit different having Google cooperating with the plastic-toy manufacturer . Then again I doubt Galaxy S will get 2.3 sooner than the DHD, because they got to 2.2 about a month ago.

In related news to CM, CM 7.1 final was released today
I would like to point out that there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that there will not be a 4.0 upgrade available for HTC VISION. Need I remind you all that there was an official upgrade to Android 2.2 for HTC SAPPHIRE/MAGIC32B made almost exactly ONE YEAR AGO? Yes, approximately the exact same time that HTC VISION was initially made available.
Also remember that the 32B was a 192 MB RAM device where only 97 MB was actually available to Linux. This significant upgrade from Android 1.6 to 2.2 required some MEMORY REDISTRIBUTION via new SPL to increase the available RAM to 112 MB. HTC VISION is not starved for RAM as the 32B was. HTC VISION has plenty of space left within the system partition (in fact on mine, there are 262 MB of free space on /system of over 400 total -- clearly intended to leave space for upgrades). Unlike the 32B, the specifications of Vision are far more than adequate, and even with a device as limited as 32B, they made the upgrade.

CM "team", as well as all the other rom cookers out there (yes, they are cookers, Android is written by Google, CM just cooks it and adds in a few goodies.) do a TERRIBLE job of versioning.
I once suggested a much more sensible approach to versioning, which is used by many other downstream open source projects... but they threw a tantrum.
Versioning of Android ROMs should be as follows;
UPSTREAMNAME-UPSTREAMVERSION-DOWNSTREAMREVISION.DOWNSTREAMNAMEVERSION.ARCHITECTURE
Obviously ARCHITECTURE doesn't apply directly, but this could be replaced with DEVICE.
So.... CM7.1 for VISION should be versioned as
android-2.3.7-0.CM7.1.vision
With this, if they make a minor update (that they would normally call CM7.1.1), it would increment the DOWNSTREAMREVISION, so the new version would be android-2.3.7-1.CM7.1.vision.
I.e., the point here would be to keep the priority on the upstream version rather than downstream, because "android-2.3.7" is FAR more important than "CM7.1". Quite frankly, the "CM" version means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Nothing. There is nothing confirmed for Ice Cream Sandwich at all. Google has had it tightly wrapped up.
The only thing we do know that it is Android 4.0
Besides that:
Facial recognition features, new APIs to reduce development fragmentation, a unification of phone and tablet UIs and its APIs.
Nothing else is confirmed with sources beside it.

Progress on CM9 [February 7th, 2012]

It’s been awhile since the last update and I just wanted to let everyone know about our progress with CM9. As I mentioned in the previous update, Android 4.0 contains many internal changes that require updated graphics drivers. Unfortunately, these drivers are almost always closed-source and don’t appear until a device or devkit is released with them. For many devices, our hands are tied. Some very clever workarounds have gone into CM9, but we’re still blocked on some subsystems like the camera.
Since Android 4.0 is such a major change from 2.3, we started with a fresh codebase from Google and have been forward-porting features from CM7 with an eye on design and better integration. This is a somewhat time-consuming process, but it allows us to rethink everything. We’ve eliminated the CMParts app, instead choosing to add our custom features directly into the main settings. We are also taking a “just works” approach when it comes to configuration- CM7 had too many options that just weren’t widely used. We hope to achieve a good balance between tweakability and a great out-of-the-box experience. I want your phone or tablet to feel like it should have come with CM9.
Currently, you can compile CM9 for a small number of devices- notably the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Wi-Fi and T-Mobile versions), the HP Touchpad and Motorola Xoom. The next devices to show up will likely be a whole array of Samsung phones (Exynos chipset), with devices based on the Qualcomm MSM8660 and 7×30 chipsets to follow. It’s still unclear if we can provide support for the QSD8x50 family of devices (Nexus One, HTC Evo, etc), but the answer almost always turns out to be “yes” for these kinds of things.
As our hardware support improves, I’ll keep this blog updated. As much as we’d like to stay ahead of the manufacturers, it may be a tie this time Thanks for the continued support, and please consider dropping us a buck or two using the link at the bottom of the page if you enjoy CyanogenMod.

Lack of GPU a Heavy Loss
As we don't have a GPU in Wildfire, we won't be able to enjoy the animation and effects in ICS.
Gingerbread Animation stumbles often in CM7.1. If the wildy was equipped with a GPU, it would definitely be getting ICS officially.... FYI, HTC Wildfire @ buzz is the 7th device in most installation according to CM stats.
Atleast I'm happy with it for 2 years now... Better than My Girlfriend... LOL..
Just tried out the ICS by ErwinP and i found it quiet good. OC'ed to 652MHz and it was a bit smooth. The lack of GPU showed when the screen became slow when coming out of the app drawer.
Live wallpapers didn't work at all like the camera. But the rest was smooth. Wifi , calls , sms , images etc.
Give it a time and it may become stable on wildfire.

HTC Official ICS Update List, No Desire Z

http://blog.htc.com/2012/03/ics/
I woke up in the morning with this news. I have to say that I was very disappointed. Even though I anticipated that HTC won't release an official ICS update for the Desire Z, this news still took a toll on me :-(
now all we can hope for is a better port from the devs (there're already good ICS ROMs for the Desire Z, the Icecream JIBwich ROM I am using is already much better than stock GB, but I do want to have a better camera driver)

According to that post, the MSM7x30 chip is in their scope of support, so it's more likely than just 50%.
It's 75% according to comments. Even if there is no official support, there are always resourceful developers. I've been using CM7 on my Defy for a long time before official support came.
By the way, that flowchart was a semi-joke. It's not meant to be totally definitive, but it does give an idea as to CM9 main requirements - i.e. 512MB RAM and an ICS official release on a device with the same chipset.

It probably helps that we already have some fairly successful ICS builds on our devices. I've been running Andromadus v13 for a little while and it works really well. There are just a few things that need to be worked on (like the camera and gps lock). But for normal tasks, it runs really smoothly.
Yep, if no official CM9 ever comes Andromadus should be able to last me until my next phone.

Agree, I never used the official CM (because of some personal opinions about them) and Icecream JIBwich based on Andromadus has been a fantastic G2 ICS ROM for me
I would personally break some **** if I couldn't get a official cm build. Just my reaction....

i hope the qualcomm binary release helps fill the gap to get this device into the get.cm party.
if not... that sucks because andromedus roms are not sufficient for me unless i quit my job and no longer need to rely on dependable sync. otherwise its constant babysitting too many things.
Just wish i could know the answer now because im ready to ditch this device and move on to the next (but dont want to.. its a great gingerbread phone)

may I ask which binary release? Did they release anything related to the camera?

Does this mean the Razr has a 75% chance of getting CM9. Am I understanding this right?
