Guide to replacing the LCD.

OK folks,
I had to replace my LCD for the second time. So, I took some photos and wrote a little guide. Actually it is nine pages.
LINK to PDF.
If I need to change anything, let me know.

Nice Job!
It's a T5.
I am still trying to figure out what type of glue or epoxy should be used to reseal the side tabs back on. Prying them off the first time weakens the original glue and for me one side in now pretty loose.
I didn't play around too much when I had mine open but am now wondering if that internal 2GB sdcard is replaceable.
This should be either Stickied or added to the Wiki.
Download Mirror - PDF File you may want to right click and 'save as'.
Info on the internal SD Card
There was a thread somewhere that said the tape for the end pieces is a 3M product, but I can't find the thread right now.
After looking again it does look like tape. That should be enough for me to go on.Thanks alot!
Yes. It is 3M tape. I got some with my LCD at no cost when I picked it up. Had to cut it to fit as it was for a different phone.
BTW , I will probably update the file for grammer and such stuff.

Verifix UV adhesive is the glue to use.
For better results use this with a 'Granulate TR 60 LCD glue gun', google it.

I'm thinking about buying a streak later on. How concerned should I be about the screen cracking? I'm not clumzy, but let's be realistic, who doesn't drop their phone at least once in their lifetime.
FWIW, I think it is an issue, but not a deal-breaker. The gorilla glass is very scratch-resistant, but also very brittle. Given its size, it is LIKELY to crack if you drop it naked. Unfortunately, I'm not guessing about this. I wouldn't use mine now without Otterbox Defender or at least Commuter (I have both now.)
I will say this: I have used mine for 2 months now with glass cracked, and with no effect on lcd clarity or touchscreen issues. But getting repairs is tough; will likely try diy soon.

Hi there. I'm about to replace my lcd. What side tabs are you referring to?
TIA
I think he is refering to the ends of the phone. The plastic peices where the buttons and ffc and speaker for the phone.
If you work slowly and with caution you can reuse the tape/glue that is currently holding the ends.

Ahh thanks for that
Still waiting for the lcd replacement from big_is. The first one they sent had 2 of the 3 ribbons broken. It's been more than 3 weeks now since I ordered it. Well, that's what it means to save $150 over having it professionally done
I destroyed my streak LCD and glass when I dropped it from just over 2 feet so definitely use a case. Also I just ordered a replacement LCD and glass from Amazon for $100, that's what the description says. So the parts are coming now, finally I can't wait to have my streak back
Sent from my Desire HD or Inspire using XDA Premium App
I've heard that the glass that you buy elsewhere isn't truly gorilla glass? I posted this earlier, but the lcd in my dell streak is the only thing messed up, not the glass.
Can I just buy the lcd and digitizer? Or do I need the glass as well.
You can get just the LCD and digitizer. Check out Amazon.

Hey guys,
Besides amazon does anyone know of any other site to get an LCD replacement?
Or can someone recommend a seller on ebay?
I know people say Big_S is good, anyone have any experience?
Any help would be appreciated.

Have a look at post 1 or post 2 and in the pdf on the last page is amplace the provided the LCD to me. They stock the LCD.
Thanks alperin1,
my last question is if I only order the digitizer how do I mount it to the glass since only glue is holding it together?
I didn't see that in the pdf
=s
sorry for the noobish questions I just want to make sure I have all the info before my teardown.
Thank you!

I want to make white my black Galaxy Note

Disclaimer:
No, I'm neither Gecko like nor racist.
So,
replacement parts are coming up on eBay, most of them are not genuine.
I would actually like to replace everything needed with genuine parts, but that's not a must.
So far I could find all the original parts but the front glass.
Therefore I wonder if anyone was able to find a genuine white one?
The glass is the only part I wouldn't buy from a Chinese third-party company 'cause it's no Gorilla Glass at all for sure.
Come on nobody was in need once to replace the front glass?
Just out of curiosity with all this plastic surgery you're planning on with the galaxy note wouldn't it be much cheaper and alot easier just to buy a legit white one then sell yours? All things considered you should be able to just buy the white note for at most 50 bucks more then you can sell the black one. The screen alone will cost atleast double that id think. Then again what do I know, I'm just a dude actin like another dude that's pretendin to be another dude while doin some other dudes girl...or whatever that line is from tropic thunder

Nope, my Note is scratched in several parts (see I didn't care about protecting it) and so far all the (genuine) white replacement parts that I found on eBay will costs an amount of about € 50,00.
The genuine black version of the glass costs about € 20,00 more.
Probably cost 200-250 for screen lcd and battery cover. I converted mine from black to white for roughly. I had broke my screen so i just replaced it then

If you did everything but the front then it would mimic the Galaxy Nexus in the way that the screen/front of the phone is still all black but the housing and everything else is white. At times I kinda wished I had gotten the white note as I do really like the looks of it the more I see it.

I know for sure that I can get the glass and front white frame only without the need to get the LCD too.
I saw the black version on eBay and you didn't have to buy the LCD too.

Hmm alright, I will go then to my local Samsung repairing center and ask for a price to have all those parts replaced.
I might then think if it's worth the money or if it's cheaper to sell my phone and buy the white Note.
I have a white TPU case on my black Note. I think a white body with a black front panel would look great.

Another cheaper route would be buying a sgp glast white screen protector and battery cover.
Unlesz you have patience and experience, i wouldnt recommend changing just the digitizer. Greater chance of breaking both pieces.

London, UK - Anyone that can replace the GLASS ONLY on an S3? (NOT the whole LCD)

Please, no posts saying it cannot be done, it can.
If you do this as a service and are in or around London, please reply or PM me.
My S3 is "Amber Brown" (Unique to Phones4U I think) but I do not care if the replacement part is not this colour.
Cheers!
Heat gun and steady hand is all that's needed. Good luck.

You can normally get it done by a Samsung Service Centre.
http://www.samsung.com/uk/servicelocator/ find it here. They should quote you a price. Cheers.

Yeah, I saw that from the video, and I am not too scared to mess with phones generally, but I am a little clumsy and as it is a screen, any slip of the knife would be catastrophic.(Plus I had a penknife close on me not so long ago, badly cutting my finger and knives still freak me out a bit)
Would happily pay someone £50 to do this for me, but no way I am paying £200 to replace a perfectly good LCD.

I did ask in the samsung centre in Tottenham Court Road and they seemed to think that the LCD needed replacing too, maybe I should try some more Samsung service centres because keeping the warranty would be nice as it is only a week old

No service center will replace the glass, they all change the whole screen.
I advice keeping the warranty and paying the 200, you won't regret it.
People that changed the glass (including my friend) all had it perfect, then it started lifting an air bubbles covered some parts of the screen, i know others that cracked the actual LCD when trying to change the glass.
The glass can be replaced easily. I've done it on my s3 and I can tell you that geting the broken glass off is a piece of cake. Just use a heat gun and a few guitar picks, work arround the edges and make sure that you maintain the screen hot, heating it up with the heat gun so that the adhesive is warm and softened the whole time.
The glass itself is made out of two layers, first layer is the transparent glass and under the glass there is a plastic layer that gives the glass its color.you want to stick the guitar pick under the second layer, stick a half of the pick under the glass and start applying preasure on the part of the pick that sticks out of the glass. Push the pick down, towards the table and the glass will start to get off. Use multiple guitar picks on multiple parts of the glass to make sure you dont brake the screen.
The hardest part of reinstalling the glass is getting it on without any dust between the lcd and the glass. Use the 3M adhesive sticke (ebay) precisely cut for the s3 and clean the adhesive on the housing and the LCD with which the original glass was glued. That's it, good luck!
Sorry mate, wish I could help. Good luck getting it replaced!

Replacing digitizer only

Hi. Some time ago, my Nexus 7 fell and the digitizer broke in two parts. Screen works fine, but touch does not respond well. Some people sell a digitizer (not display, digitizer only) and I want to buy one, but I don't know how to replace it.
Any suggests?
Thank you.

Thank you! But I still don't know how to replace the digitizer...
You're probably going to have to replace the screen and the digitizer. Usually, the digitizer is "fused" to the screen. At least, that's how it's been with phones in the past as well as iPods, etc. Not sure about the Nexus 7, but I'm going to assume it's the same. So, you usually have to replace both because that's how they come.
Might want to research it more before ordering just the digitizer.

You want to buy where the screen and digitizer are already together (fused).
The fusing process is something that happens in a factory and if not done properly, will result in your screen not working via touch at all. Basically, your best bet is to just get glass and digitizer together where they are already fused. There are also some chemicals involved from what I remember and it's just not possible to do at home.

It is possible to replace the digitaliser you need to heat the screen and draw a piece of fine wire between the screen and the digitaliser the pros use a heat plate and gold wire but you can do it with a violin e string and a hot air gun the glue is very sticky and hard to remove

No, I understand. It's possible, but for me, it's something I wouldn't want to tackle. I'd probably end up breaking something else.
When I had to replace the screen on my daughter's 2nd gen iPod, it was NOT fun. The digitizer was bad, so just replacing both was an exercise in frustration. I'd hate to imagine what I would have had to go through if I had to try and fuse the digitizer back to the original screen.

It is hard make they believe that. But you should have a try.
The glass, screen and frame are glued together tightly. It is a hard task to replace one part only.
Although you send it to repair store, they only help you to replace the whole display assembly for avoiding risk.
If you want to repair by yourself, I don't suggest to replace the glass only.
Separating the glass from screen, you have to keep heat gun on 80 degree. It is a very hard task for a freshman to separate the glass from screen and keep the screen prefect. It needs the professional skill and tools.
You can try to replace the S4 screen with glass and frame by yourself. It is not a hard job and will save a lot of money. BTW you must get the correct version of screen with digitizer and frame replacement part for your S4.
You can get original spare part from witrigs.com which offers repair guide.
