No external speaker volume - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hiya!
Just got a refurbished NC today. I'm out of a town staying in a hotel that requires you to enter a UN and PW in the browser to connect to wifi. This means I was not able to do the normal start-up process.
No problem, I thought. I used the micro SD card and successfully rooted and installed 7.0.3 Cyn mod. Seems to work ok but I get no external speaker volume at all. Headphones work great. Tried the DSP stuff and different music sources to no avail.
Next, updated to 7.1 with same issues. Even tried the Nook tweeks.
I guess I'm not sure if it is a rom issue or maybe the speaker came bad but the NC itself looks immaculate out of the box.
Anybody heard of this issue? Will I have to try a different rom to test it? Thanks!

Do you have any speaker volume when running stock?

Never got past the registration screen due to the wifi issue in my original post so did not test the speaker stock.

Then I suspect it is the speaker, not CM7....

[Q] No sounds Epic DK28

Hello thanks for reading. I update my Epic to the DK28 2.2.1 on 12/15 and have had a bunch of glitches since (eg. long home screen loads and missing widgets) But a couple days ago I lost all sound from the internal speaker! I can connect something to the headphone jack and hear everything perfectly but as soon as I disconnect... nothing. I have tried so far: wiping all data via recovery mode and all cache, installing audio controller apps but nothing seems to help. No sounds whatsoever even the sprint animation on boot makes no sound. Any ideas? Do you think flashing a custom rom might help?
Re: No Sounds Epic DK28
Sounds more like a hardware problem. Do you use headphones on the phone? I've had a problem on an old LG Chocolate 3 that did the same thing. I had to disassemble the phone and bend a contact point back out. Seems when I unplugged a set of headphones they contact was stuck to the terminal and bent it causing a short.
Try downgrading back to DI19 and seeing what happens. If the audio works again, then you've got a software problem. If it doesn't, you've got a hardware problem.

Right hand side headphone no sound on stock rom

Hi guys,
My N7 wifi only 16GB got problem with no sound on right handside headphone. I tried with several headphone and still no sound. So I formatted, data reset, clean install stock rom and still no luck. I'm attending to go service center tomorrow but I tried unofficial cm10.1 today and both left and right headphones are working again. Has anyone face that kind of problem and how to solve it. I appreciate every reply and advice.
Thanks!!!
I had the very same issue, I was running stock rooted 4.1.2 on my grouper and one day there was no sound in one headphone, external speaker worked fine just the headphone was weird. I called Asus and they said I would need to send it in for replacement. So i flashed factory images and unrooted and Boom! Everything worked again. That was like a month and a half ago and I haven't had any problems since. Not sure what caused it (sorry for that) but its gone now.

working again
Thanks for the reply.
Last night I decided to go service center. So I flash back factory image, unroot and relock the bootloader this morning. Then everything working back. Now I unlocked, rooted and check again and everything is fine. Don't know what is the problem. At least I don't need to go service center now. Hope the problem is solved like yours. Thanks.

I have a similar problem but I don't know how to do what you both did.
My Nexus 7 is not rooted or anything. Three days ago I installed Blackmart Alpha and installed 2 applications with it, and everything was ok. The next day everything was still ok, without any sound problems. Last night, I tried listening to a song and it only produced sound on the right side. I tried different headphones but it was the same. I have read many threads so far on a few forums and this is the only one in which you have seemed to manage the problem (other ones were just to push the jack harder, that's not my case).
So far I have already tried doing a factory reset, but it still have the same problem. Any help?

Now I've found a way and I uses it everytime the right handside sound gone. Plug in your headphone and play a song with maximun volume for a few second. Then the right handside sound will come back Sometimes it needs to play around like unplug and plug again. Good luck buddy!!!

[Q] Defy+ and CM10 05/12 headset problem

Guys,
i've managed to root my defy+, install 2ndboot and install CM10 JB last nightly. (Quarx)
Everything is working REALLY well, except, my headset plug won't work. i've tried 4 headphones (from lo-fi to hi-fi, mid ohms to "low")
it doesn't recognizes it... even the original headset when plugged won't get anything.
it plays music through the speakers, (through apollo and play music).
Everything else is working (i just didn't try theter, but i don't need it)
Post in the appropriate thread.
i suggest that you ask your question in the CM10 problems reporting thread, as more people will be able to help you there, compared to starting a separate thread.
Don't forget to hit the thanks button if this post was helpful. :highfive:
Tried on mine now, and it's working fine. I have the latest build from december 5th.
I have the MB526 (defy+)

*bump
I'm having the exact same issue. I'm running CM10 2013-01-10 (currently latest) on my Green Lens Defy.
I cannot start FM-Radio because it says it needs headphones plugged in, just like leonbrio mentioned.
Also there is no headset symbol in the statusbar. Plugged in headphones just don't seem to be recognized by the device at all.

problem with my audio

I have a problem with my phone when I hear songs with the loudspeaker or the application of multimedia the speaker did not work for me but when I plug the headphones All things work as usual

In short as I have noticed a problem when it comes to audio device I have no idea how it happened not touch anything any device settings
Please I need your help I tried everything i try to change the kernel i try to change the baseband i try to change roms
just everything i can think that can help And nothing helped
p.s: Sorry if I have mistakes in English
Same
I have this EXACT problem. I tried to flash a different rom, several different roms actually. It is the strangest thing. I didn't drop it or anything. The problem is that the phone constantly thinks that a headset is plugged in, even if one is not plugged in. You can use the app Soundabout, and disable headset detection as a workaround. I ordered a new headphone jack, thinking it must be hardware, and something broken in the jack. I replaced the headphone jack, and am still having the same problem.
It's crazy that this exact thing is happening to you too... makes me wonder... when did it start for you? What radio do you have? Have you used a slimport adapter at some point?
The only thing left I can think of is reflashing bootloader and radio. Going to try that now and report back.

Its start this week i have radio 54 but i try every radio and no i dont use this adapterand thanx for the app that you post but this is a Temporary solution
Yes, the app is a temp fix... and it gets annoying. I tried to flash bootloader and radios, and still no luck. I asked about slimport, because it is the only "new" thing I have done with my phone recently. I was on .54 radio too, but switched back to 48 or 44 (cant remember which it is at the moment, the american 4.2.2 radio)
can you verify that the app does allow your phone to work? It is very odd that we have the same pfroblem. Do you flash roms often? I do about once a week
i back to stock rom from miui rom in this week and then the problem start
it seems like mine broke after a rom flash as well. I was on june 10 build of PA, then went to june 14 build. clean flash back didnt fix though

i think this is a Hardware problem Because we flash roms and Nothing help
I am inclined to agree. I wanted to test all options first though. I called Google again last night, and the support guy said he has heard this a few times, and they always wind up replacing the phone.

[Q]i9505 periodic no sound and mic problem

Hello,
i've found some threads here with similar problems but they all were a result of wrong baseband used after a custom rom installation.
BUT i bought a i9505 with stock 4.4.2 TW rom UGNG8 (not rooted). At some point i noticed that the phone loses sound and mic completly. Sometimes can take a call but with no sound, neather can the caller hear me, no sound from music/video player and no system sounds eather(not even with headphones plugged in). Everything goes back to normal after a reboot.
I figured it was an outdated baseband so i rooted the device, updated the baseband to the latest (UGNK4) and installed CM12. But the problem is still here. At random times the device loses all sound and only a reboot fixes it
Haven't been able to reproduce the exact moment when it happen as it seem to be completly random (gets really anoying when i need to take an important call and there is no sound )
I could really use some help with this
Cheers,
H.
Rule of thumb: If it happens across multiple roms then it is most probably a hardware issue.
I'd suggest flashing the stock rom back and see if it helps.
Make sure it's the stock rom for the country where the phone was initially bought.
For instance: If the phone was bought from Germany but you're using it in England, it is still a German version of the S4 and therefor needs the German version.

thanks for the reply, i will try the stock firmware, maybe i missed something in the process earlier, and post back the results.
cheers,
H.
Fixed!
ok, after a lot of trial and error i narrowed it down to a hardware issue. The headphone jack was the thing making all the problems. i tried cleaning it but it didnt help, so i removed it. Device works flawless now. Already ordered a new jack. :good:
So to anyone having a similar issue -replacing (or just removing) the headphone jack does the trick.
Cheers,
H.
