Same
I have this EXACT problem. I tried to flash a different rom, several different roms actually. It is the strangest thing. I didn't drop it or anything. The problem is that the phone constantly thinks that a headset is plugged in, even if one is not plugged in. You can use the app Soundabout, and disable headset detection as a workaround. I ordered a new headphone jack, thinking it must be hardware, and something broken in the jack. I replaced the headphone jack, and am still having the same problem.
It's crazy that this exact thing is happening to you too... makes me wonder... when did it start for you? What radio do you have? Have you used a slimport adapter at some point?
The only thing left I can think of is reflashing bootloader and radio. Going to try that now and report back.

Its start this week i have radio 54 but i try every radio and no i dont use this adapterand thanx for the app that you post but this is a Temporary solution
Yes, the app is a temp fix... and it gets annoying. I tried to flash bootloader and radios, and still no luck. I asked about slimport, because it is the only "new" thing I have done with my phone recently. I was on .54 radio too, but switched back to 48 or 44 (cant remember which it is at the moment, the american 4.2.2 radio)
can you verify that the app does allow your phone to work? It is very odd that we have the same pfroblem. Do you flash roms often? I do about once a week
i back to stock rom from miui rom in this week and then the problem start
it seems like mine broke after a rom flash as well. I was on june 10 build of PA, then went to june 14 build. clean flash back didnt fix though

i think this is a Hardware problem Because we flash roms and Nothing help
I am inclined to agree. I wanted to test all options first though. I called Google again last night, and the support guy said he has heard this a few times, and they always wind up replacing the phone.

I want to know when will the sound problem be fixed completely? im currently using fresh 1.5 because all of the 2.1 have problems with the sound.. when someone calls i cant hear them and they cant hear me! i cant be resetting my phone everytime this happens. the fix that they have dont work also it might prevent it from happening so often but all my calls are important... does any one know when this will be fixed fully or why is this happening? how to prevent it ? mayb its the cdma settings? Thanks alot
The audio problem for the effected phones will be fixed when official 2.1 comes out.
i found whats causing it.... so who has a nice rom with the older kernel before .29 .. wats the kernel ? lol
The issue is caused by audio drivers in the kernel not resetting. we do not have the source for .29 kernel so there is no fix. we dont know why this effects some people and not others. Since the audio drivers do not reset it does not allow anything to read them. so it continues resetting and resetting and this causes the cpu to be pegged by the constant retry and retry.
Any 1.5 or overclocked 2.1 Rom
The audiofix posted by avalaunch worked briliantly for me. I have not had the issue once since he posted his fix about two weeks ago.
Also just so you know, zens my touch Rom did not have the audio issues for me. Just be sure to reboot after the first boot to completely get everything working.
which fix the audiofx or audiorc?? or u on the newest one for testers? i hate the my touch roms omg lol whats the older kernel version
wait another thing could it be because we didnt update the radio ?? or u guys doubt that 1?
I have had the audio issue with every ROM i had used until i flashed the Dachdroid 2. Ever since i have not had any kind of issues with phone freezing or caller not hearing me when i answer. Its very strange, but i wanted to post to see if any of the Devs can find out the differences between whats in this ROM and all the othersthat would make it work. Again i have had audio issues with all except this one.
What is this Audio problem?
I've run ROMs with both the .29 and hacked up .27 kernels.
Is this a bluetooth audio problem? Or handset audio?
The problem occurs randomly, for me at least. It's an issue I've had as others have that no audio at all comes through after an unknown time. I notice mine is triggered when I get off the phone with someone, I get 'call lost' and then all my audio is gone and have to reboot to get audio back. It affects BT and handset for me.
Iv never had the problem and iv changed my radio quite a few times. I think im on my 4th radio.
Maybe later at night you could flash a 2.1 rom, change to a newer radio and give it a few test to see if it works.
Flipz has alot of radios and I think the stock one on his site.
(IF anyone trys flashing a radio this is really the only way you can brick your phone. DO not flash any radio unless it says CDMA htc hero. All of them are on flipzmode website. You cant go wrong if you get them from him.)
the issue will hopefully be fixed when they release 2.1 officially. and im still looking into the issue a little at a time. 99% of people reported that one of the two updates put together fix it.
the only other cause could be a hawrdware issue. like the moved one resistor on the board and this causes something in the kernel to restart drivers. idk that is a very very very simple thought. but anyways like i said hopefully it get fixed!
Dont know if this is related but its absolutely killing me
Just today the headset icon popped on and wont go away. I cant hear anything when using the phone because its stuck in this mode. I plug in headphones and the voice dialer starts. I can hear through the headphones, but taking them out does nothing.
Anyone have any info on this or if there is anything I can do?

yeah...Ive come to the conclusion that 2.1 is just not going to work for me...went back to fresh 1.1 and everything is good. Its funny though, Ive been on 2.1 since all of the work was done and never had a problem until now. Ive been on damn near every 2.1 rom and didnt have an issue. Now all of the sudden the handset icon shows up and I cant hear anything unless I put in headphones. Tried all of the audio fixes and searched the entire net looking for a resolution. Hopefully the official comes soon. I am definitely going to miss 2.1.

I'd go back, but then I'm stuck with not being able to receive picture messages. So far I get the audio problem every other day, and it's a simple reboot.

a simple reboot ? a simple headache lol idk about u guys i dont want to have to restart my phone when i just got a call that i couldnt answer !! ..... is there any newer roms with the older kernel?? because i dont understand the whole kernel thing...
This audio loss issue is reason number one why all of the people who say "Who cares when HTC and Sprint release 2.1? We already have it!" are just total idiots.
Hi,
in the last days with my S3 on every call I had which went for more than 1 minute the other person suddenly couldn't hear me anymore. Sometimes it happened after a minute, sometimes after 3 minutes, but in the last 4 calls it happened every time!
Reception came back after some seconds and from then on it was really bad, the other person had hard problems understanding me.
I searched around and found this thread of GNex owners having the same problem:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/472451-vzw-other-person-cant-hear-me.html
Then I found it in the Issues DB too
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=24019
Do you guys know more? it is really bad, since this is my business phone so nearly every call is an important one and it really bugs me out.
Anyone having same problems?
I hope someone can help me out.
Yes I have the exact problem. It's driving me nuts and I've tried different roms and kernels.

Have you tried to DISable the noise canceling feature?
No but I will try it and report back.
By the way I'm on stock LF6 4.0.4 in Germany (with o2 as my carrier. Unbranded. )
Is the noise canceletion buggy?

I've read that some kernels cause issues like this.
Also, in UK, in Birmingham on Orange, I have been having issues like this, and it usually occurs when the Signal Switches over from Orange to T-Mobile, mid call, and once onto T-Mobile signal, the call breaks up or goes quiet.
Maybe an issue switching from 2G to 3G or back mid call also?

Will try also. The only reason I haven't got rid of this phone is it mostly happens on o2 calls, I am on giffgaff which is run by o2, The op is o2! Hmmm

just yesterday I again had the issue....and my noice cancelling was off...so this is not causing it....
I'm bumping this in hope someone has a cure.
The new rom LFB is not yet published for Germany but for UK. Perhaps it makes a difference? Can somebody in UK with LFB who previously had the issue please check?
Same problem, no solution
I'm facing the same issue. Tried searching for any possible explanations, but haven't found anything conclusive.
I've tried disabling and enabling noise cancellation and all combinations of the in-call options.
There are 2 or 3 main theories which I've encountered:
1. The microphone goes to sleep when the phone display does. As soon as someone seems to not able to hear me, I move the phone away and the screen wakes up. This seems to sort it out temporarily.
2. Someone had posted on FixYa indicating that they tried putting a small piece of cotton after removing the back panel just behind where the mic is. Haven't tried this!
3. Everyone else seems to think that a factory reset would set it right. I haven't tried this as I need to find a bit of time to do this.
Also, I'm wondering if flashing to CM9's RC1 or 2 will sort out the issue. I'm thinking that it has to be a software glitch. In fact, someone reported that they solved it this way (can't remember where).

Which ROM are you using right now?
Ihad the same issue on CM9 and got rid of it by flashing another radio. I originally had the xxlef, tried the xxlfb and ended up with the xxlf5 which works fine so far.
Try this for a fix
goto settings
sound
Toggle on then off or off then on the screen lock sounds then try again :good:

Hey,
just so you know. I am on CM9 and I have kind of the same issue. Sometimes audio is unidirectional, both ways actually, unable to recreate it so far. What always seems to work is my bluetooth headset. Switiching between the two of them makes me lose audio entirely. I have tried many things, even rebooting the phone Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. I'm guessing it has something to do with BT.
I am NOT facing the issue with losing audio in the middle of the call when the display goes to sleep. The display goes to sleep because of the ligth sensor, btw. - not because the system is idling The display is not needed once the phone realizes it's attached to your ear (lights off).
It's driving me nuts
BUT: CM9 is amazing so far. It's fast, it's open, everything works just fine. Except for the phone as a phone of course

Does CM9 come with an integrated modem switcher? I don't like messing around with "packages" too much. The more you mod everything, the less stuff has got to do with each other and it is more likely to run into trouble, because as a developer you can't really consider every side effect
So if this is actually about the modem (which I doubt, because the connection is just fine, it's just the audio output and input that is kind of broken) - what modem would I use with CM9? Can I just flash a random one over the current one?
Appreciate the advice.
Andreas
I notice that as soon as I take the phone away from my ear and the screen lights up I can again be heard... Wonder if there's a problem with the light off sensor affecting the mics too... It ALWAYS goes away when I remove the phone from my ear and the light sensor allows the backlight to come on again...
Might be a crazy thought but the evidence does seem to support this. I haven't turned off the light sensor in settings yet, if I even can, but was going to try next call...
I updated to BLG8 and I will see tomorrow if it happens again. Today I already had one call which lasted 11 minutes without interruptions. I will report as soon as I got more calls to test.

Hi guys,
My N7 wifi only 16GB got problem with no sound on right handside headphone. I tried with several headphone and still no sound. So I formatted, data reset, clean install stock rom and still no luck. I'm attending to go service center tomorrow but I tried unofficial cm10.1 today and both left and right headphones are working again. Has anyone face that kind of problem and how to solve it. I appreciate every reply and advice.
Thanks!!!
I had the very same issue, I was running stock rooted 4.1.2 on my grouper and one day there was no sound in one headphone, external speaker worked fine just the headphone was weird. I called Asus and they said I would need to send it in for replacement. So i flashed factory images and unrooted and Boom! Everything worked again. That was like a month and a half ago and I haven't had any problems since. Not sure what caused it (sorry for that) but its gone now.

Last night I decided to go service center. So I flash back factory image, unroot and relock the bootloader this morning. Then everything working back. Now I unlocked, rooted and check again and everything is fine. Don't know what is the problem. At least I don't need to go service center now. Hope the problem is solved like yours. Thanks.

I have a similar problem but I don't know how to do what you both did.
My Nexus 7 is not rooted or anything. Three days ago I installed Blackmart Alpha and installed 2 applications with it, and everything was ok. The next day everything was still ok, without any sound problems. Last night, I tried listening to a song and it only produced sound on the right side. I tried different headphones but it was the same. I have read many threads so far on a few forums and this is the only one in which you have seemed to manage the problem (other ones were just to push the jack harder, that's not my case).
So far I have already tried doing a factory reset, but it still have the same problem. Any help?

Now I've found a way and I uses it everytime the right handside sound gone. Plug in your headphone and play a song with maximun volume for a few second. Then the right handside sound will come back Sometimes it needs to play around like unplug and plug again. Good luck buddy!!!
Hi, Okay so I am having a problem with the Nexus 4 microphone. It's not working for the following;
Calls
Voice Search
Video capture
Pretty much everything a mic is used for really...
The problem started persisting I believe back in 4.3 or possibly just after the 4.4 update, not entirely clear.
I have found a rather irritating fix for the problem, it's a silly fix but it's a fix nonetheless....as strange as it is if I plug in the usb data cable the mic works. Strange yes? If I plug in the usb cable and then unplug it the mic works for a little bit and then goes dead again. Even stranger yes?
Since the problem has occurred I have I have been running customs ROMS and Kernels, predominantly for the 4.4.4 update and nothing really less. The problem is still persistent, hasn't gotten worse in anyway...just persistent. Keep in mind I hadn't put anything custom on my phone until after the problem occurred.
So obviously this states that I have done factory resets, formats, flashes etc...
Currently running the latest Dirty Unicorn ROM with the PAGAAPS.
I have read a lot on the google product forums and some other threads around the place with others having practically the same issues. There is a lot of varying conclusions between it being a hardware or software issue with no real resolution though. Some have dissembled their phone and changed the mic and what ever other hardware they found necessary to change or try and fix....to also find that it hasn't fixed their problem.
Here is a link to one thread with everyone having the same issue, everything on there I have tried apart from doing open surgery on my phone.
Nexus 4 microphone not working Google product forum
So if this is a software issue for some phones, the problem could be solved in the upcoming update to Lollipop 5.0 which could be potentially awesome for me.
....if no resolutions happens from that, well then I'm stuck with what is causing the issue.
In conclusion notes; and in case the 5.0 update doesn't fix the issue, and in knowing that my small fix can be resolved with the data cable plugged in. Is there another fix I could try, with an app, rooted app, or with an Xposed module that anyone knows of that I could at least try? Any help in this direction would be much appreciated.

My N4 had a broken mic out of the box brand new lol. It was the latest batch, made in October 2013
I fixed it by getting a new mic because i diagnosed it wasn't a software issue
I ended up flashing "LRX08 B15.5S" from [L][5.0] Android L-pv N4 [B15.1 updated 10-27-2014] and I also put the "91u-a9: AOSP/L" Kernel from [KERNEL] [4.4.4/CM/(L)] [Bleeding Edge] Unleashed Kernel Series [91u-a9] [10/28/2014] Thinking there might be a chance it would fix my problem bringing it to 5.0 instead of 4.4.4.
I thought it worked all day yesterday without the data cable needing to be plugged in, I ran tests all day and it worked fine. Today is a different story though. I guess the data cable creates some form of initial connection the phone needs for my mic to work, and leaving it long enough it looses that connectivity. I'm not sure.
I don't have any intentions sending the phone in to get fixed, or repaired, as I'll be upgrading my nexus soon enough. I guess at this stage my fix is too cut the very end off of an old cable and have it in my pocket for incoming and outgoing calls. Anyone else have another solution?
Best Regards.

flashed stock. Problem still persists.
Hello,
i've found some threads here with similar problems but they all were a result of wrong baseband used after a custom rom installation.
BUT i bought a i9505 with stock 4.4.2 TW rom UGNG8 (not rooted). At some point i noticed that the phone loses sound and mic completly. Sometimes can take a call but with no sound, neather can the caller hear me, no sound from music/video player and no system sounds eather(not even with headphones plugged in). Everything goes back to normal after a reboot.
I figured it was an outdated baseband so i rooted the device, updated the baseband to the latest (UGNK4) and installed CM12. But the problem is still here. At random times the device loses all sound and only a reboot fixes it
Haven't been able to reproduce the exact moment when it happen as it seem to be completly random (gets really anoying when i need to take an important call and there is no sound )
I could really use some help with this
Cheers,
H.
Rule of thumb: If it happens across multiple roms then it is most probably a hardware issue.
I'd suggest flashing the stock rom back and see if it helps.
Make sure it's the stock rom for the country where the phone was initially bought.
For instance: If the phone was bought from Germany but you're using it in England, it is still a German version of the S4 and therefor needs the German version.

thanks for the reply, i will try the stock firmware, maybe i missed something in the process earlier, and post back the results.

Fixed!
ok, after a lot of trial and error i narrowed it down to a hardware issue. The headphone jack was the thing making all the problems. i tried cleaning it but it didnt help, so i removed it. Device works flawless now. Already ordered a new jack. :good:
So to anyone having a similar issue -replacing (or just removing) the headphone jack does the trick.
Cheers,
H.
