I need to boost the in-call volume on my old rooted Evo. I'm getting ready to sell it to someone with a locked 2.3.3 phone and sending the locked phone in for money from Verizon.
I used the hearing aid setting and that boosted the volume a little, but I would like a way to do it that doesn't involve that little icon in the status bar all the time.
Right now I'm running MikG 1.42 with the stock gingerbread kernel if that matters.
Thanks for the help.
I know the custom kernels usually boost it (netarchy) but the sad part is that HTC won't release the source code so there's no custom GB kernel

I'm running 2.2 stock kernel (2.6.32.17...) and have rooted my G2. I'd like to be able to boost the volume on the phone beyond the current settings. I'm referring to the headset volume and not external volume (bluetooth, headphones, etc). I read somewhere that a kernel hack would be necessary to do this on the G2.
Does anybody know of a solution to this on the G2?
Louder Volume Hack can do this, it can be found in the market. it's around $2.
You can do it manually though, but I don't remember which files you have to edit... Maybe a google could help you?
I got Louder Volume Hack from the market. It says that the G2 is compatible. I'm going to run thru some tests to see if the hacks actually do anything. I don't see a major improvement so far.
Thanks for the reply though.
which rom u r using of 2.2 ??
Iirc, v6r2 is what you want to have in LVH, then push the HS button (Unless you want to boost more things... I use it for HS+In call volume 2, HS+IC2.)
Wait a second... Is this the G2 HERO or the Desire G2?
Just noticed you run the STOCK 2.6.32.17 kernel... Which the Hero does not have... lol
If so you posted in the wrong section. You'd want the Desire G2 section. And I sadly don't know if it works for that phone
I think the OP here wanted the HTC Vision aka the T-Mobile G2 or Desire Z, not the Hero
Hi, i have got my DHD phone for over a week now and im loing it. its such a good phone. its much better than the iphone. but i wold like to know if it is a good thing or a bad thing if i should root my phone. what are the pros and cons? i have notice aswell that my phone is starting to lag. i have the usb debbug on but is still lags. can someone help me if i should root my phone. thanks
Pro's
- Performance > Flash a new Kernel and overclock your DHD.
- Battery Life > Setting a much lower clock speed when your screen is off.
- New Features > Rooting your DHD allows you to flash custom ROM's.
- Ability to remove bloatware (Amazon MP3, etc...)
- Any more?
Con's
- OTA updates, I'm not sure but I think rooting your DHD will stop OTA updates from working. (Correct??)
- Any more?
Do you know if we are expecting a new update soon for the dhd. I want to know if I should wait before I root my phone. I don't know if its the best for my phone. Have you rooted your phone? How are u finding it?

There will be a 2.3 Android update in the coming weeks, however I'm not sure how long HTC will take to release this for the DHD.
I rooted my DHD to remove HTC Sense. I've flashed CM6.1.0-RC1 & Buzz OC/UV 1.51Ghz 1.0.7 and It's great.
I rarely call people anyway, send a few SMS's, surf the net for maybe an hour over WiFi or 3G/HSDPA and mostly listen to music using Winamp 2-3 hours a day I can get 2 days between charges.
I've overclocked to 1400mhz (performance) when the screen is on and underclocked to 300-400mhz (smartass) when the screen is off using SetCPU.
Obviously your use may vary.
I would not be to concerned with OTA updates....
I think that once new updates are available, you'll have them sooner via a custom ROM then you'll get them OTA

This. So long as you are happy with AOSP you will have your update well before htc update sense to 2.3.
Tbh I would still love this phone if I never got another update again. It's just wonderful. Sometimes it's best to remember the definition of an update - to fix old bugs and add new ones.

so can i ask what is the best rom and settings i should use if i decide to root my phone. also are there roms with no issues on the phone like FC's? i have read about some roms audio dont work and GPS not linking and you tube not working too. Will i have to update my rom all the time. I had a g1 for 18 months and i had to change my rom all the time cause there were issues with it. sorry to sound dumb but it is such a nice phone but it does lag. i really didnt expect this as it has a fast processor.
I am using LeeDrOid atm and have 0 problems with it....

If you wait the exploit we are using to root the phone will in all probability be closed, so you may be unable to root your phone, if you permaroot with visionary you can always unroot in future if you wanted to and you needn't proceed any further so the risk to your phone is mininal from going ahead
I'm using CM6.1.0-RC1, with Buzz OC/UV 1.51Ghz 1.0.7 kernel.
No issues at all. Very quick, with great battery life.
I'm flashing Sprint Lover's (3.70.651.1) back on my phone because so far every 2.3 ROM that I've flashed (on my phone) has had issues of spotty connectivity, degraded signal quality and general SMS/MMS sporadic problems.
(CM7, MikG and the Sprint push)
Is anyone getting this? Could just be my phone...

They have a new update out.
Did you update your radios to the latest?
That could resolve it.

Without being able to use a custom Kernel, I don't see any reason to go to Gingerbread. Kernels are the only thing that actually makes your phone have better battery life, ROMS are great for looking great, but for battery ill wait!
You should try Synergy. Myn has it done right. Super snappy, everything works. Check out his warm 2.2 thread in development. I miss the looks of warm 2.2, but Myn will have them on 2.3 soon enough I'm sure.
Welcome back.... fresh 3.501 with sbc kernel.
GB is for lost kids...(hansel and gretel)

It may just be your phone. I'm on the newest MikG and have had no probs and in fact have had way better signal strength and my mms is sending and recieving great. The last MikG 1.04 had a few random reboots and sense restarts but been running MikG 2.0 since it came out and no probs yet

That's misinformation, sir. Kernel's are NOT the only thing that improves battery life.
No issues on my end - Running Kings Alliance R6.2
Hardware - 003
Hboot - 2.10
Radio - 2.15.00.11.19
Pri - 1.90_003
Prl - 60679
Recovery - CW 2.6
I still run my own 3.70 based custom rom. It's doing the trick still.
3.70 still.....ehhhhh....not so much lol. I couldn't possibly go back after GB.

I'd love to try Synergy but read on Goodandevo.net that the ROM was offered by invitation only. Do you know different?

I want to get GB on my phone mainly for the ability to install the equalizer app (DSP manager) to tailor my sound. I just rooted 2.2, though so I'm going to get a feel for this first.

I'm almost positive that the 2.3 OTA doesn't have the DSP manager.
And in reply to the op... I'm still running Fresh3.5.0.1(?)
I'm waiting for custom kernels to be released before I jump to 2.3

I guess this is what I'm thinking about:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.smartandroidapps.equalizer
Requires GB 2.3 and appears to work on Evo.

Yup, I've tried something like 5 different gb roms, and they all had one issue or another. Thanks for this thread, it made me decide to go back to good old warm 2.2.
I have been getting a few incoming calls dropping as soon as I "pick up" since Orange UK upgraded my wildfire/buzz to Froyo, possibly before. But I didn`t blame the phone until I had used AlpharevX to get S-off and was looking for problems.
A week after getting root, I built Arco`s Gingerbread/2.6.35/Cyanogenmod kernel and booted that for fun. Everything was looking great until I tried to make/receive calls and the phone would drop signal within 2 seconds of connecting every time.
I know this was a problem with this 2.6.35 kernel (for some wildfires) in MARCH, but I didn`t find when or if it was fixed. If someone wants to give me a clue:
Is it just me or is there a problem with some Wildfires that the Gingerbread Kernel is making worse ?
updated
So I read through like a thousand posts from the CM-mod nightlys thread from March, and the dropped calls bug was linked to backported USB drivers. So it was fixed, then unfixed again because:
(arco April 12, 2011)
>usb: gadget: Backport Android drivers from 2.6.35
>Completely breaks compatibility with HTC Sense,
>but is needed for Android 2.3
This means that I can`t easily run a .35 kernel on HTC Froyo, but I might still be able to run a Gingerbread kernel when I am ready to install a Gingerbread ROM.
Still a bit confused about how USB drivers could affect calls during screen blanking, but there is a LOT of code involved in that commit.
more of the same.
Stupidity is doing the same thing twice and expecting the same results, so I built Arco`s NEW 2.6.35 kernel. Same result.
At least I got some logs this time, and I know that it is not the screenblanking on the proximity sensor that is dropping the calls, it is turning the phone over when I put it to my ear that is breaking the connection. Still weird though.
Try replacing libhtc_ril.so with the one from the CM rom.
Working.
Thanks, that worked.
Just to be clear, Cyanogenmod works well on this phone and the dropped calls that I was getting on the Stock HTC ROM were different to the ones I got with Custom Kernels.
hmmm I also Get stolzes Calls with Cm7, mache oc?

If you mean OVERCLOCK, I did hear that some wildfires don`t like it.
I only tested cm7 briefly (nightly 127) but it worked for me.
Just bought this phone on eBay, the guy was advertising that the phone freezes and can be very slow. I've reset the firmware back to its original and have been playing around with it for a couple hours and it hasn't froze once.
Just asking if anyone knows what to do if the phone happens to start freezing again? As all i know is updating the firmware.
Hopefully it wont but im just throwing this out there to learn from you all
Thanks
The stock Rom in my opinion is a little flashy for the amount of memory and CPU speed we have, the reason it froze could be a software issue such as having lots of apps running in the background which with the low memory can seriously slow the phone down. This would probably have been fixed by your reset.
Rooting and then overclocking and removing bloatware certainly speeds the phone up a lot. I'm currently using a modded stock Rom and have used just about every tweak going and although its much faster I still get the occasional lag so I just put it down to the hardware.......... or lack of it.

Yea it does seem to be a good little phone for the time I've been playing around with it.
I'm planning on selling it on but I'm not sure whether to use it as if it was my only phone for a couple days to see how it plays or if I should just sell it. As I don't want someone complaining that it doesn't work.
Is it worth updating it further like you have with your phone?
Also what's the difference in the buzz version to the basic wildfire?

Buzz = Wildfire, same phone, but can be different versions, most are a3333, some may be a3335 (depending on carrier), cdma version of the Wildfire is called Bee. Wildfire S is the successor and Tattoo predecessor of our little phone.

Plus, its sooooo worth rooting and flashing your phone with custom roms, even just deodexing (so you can get rid of the **** easyer) and flashing custom kernel to the stock rom is good.^^

I like the wildfire. I'm running ics still a lil slow but it works grate.
