HTC buzz wildfire freezing - Wildfire General

Just bought this phone on eBay, the guy was advertising that the phone freezes and can be very slow. I've reset the firmware back to its original and have been playing around with it for a couple hours and it hasn't froze once.
Just asking if anyone knows what to do if the phone happens to start freezing again? As all i know is updating the firmware.
Hopefully it wont but im just throwing this out there to learn from you all
Thanks

The stock Rom in my opinion is a little flashy for the amount of memory and CPU speed we have, the reason it froze could be a software issue such as having lots of apps running in the background which with the low memory can seriously slow the phone down. This would probably have been fixed by your reset.
Rooting and then overclocking and removing bloatware certainly speeds the phone up a lot. I'm currently using a modded stock Rom and have used just about every tweak going and although its much faster I still get the occasional lag so I just put it down to the hardware.......... or lack of it.

Yea it does seem to be a good little phone for the time I've been playing around with it.
I'm planning on selling it on but I'm not sure whether to use it as if it was my only phone for a couple days to see how it plays or if I should just sell it. As I don't want someone complaining that it doesn't work.
Is it worth updating it further like you have with your phone?
Also what's the difference in the buzz version to the basic wildfire?

Buzz = Wildfire, same phone, but can be different versions, most are a3333, some may be a3335 (depending on carrier), cdma version of the Wildfire is called Bee. Wildfire S is the successor and Tattoo predecessor of our little phone.

Plus, its sooooo worth rooting and flashing your phone with custom roms, even just deodexing (so you can get rid of the **** easyer) and flashing custom kernel to the stock rom is good.^^

I just got the eris on the 20th of july. I had heard that HTC was really good but I have started running in to problems.
I rooted and I am using evil eris rom 3.0. I noticed yesterday that the awake button started not working after further investigation I noticed I could tap on the side and it would wake up.
Also just noticed today that was getting pretty hot and using the battery significantly. only lasted 5 hours.
I am considering returning the phone as I have 30 days.
Anyone have any Ideas
Search through the forums for specific problems you are having, then trouble shoot. Have you reflashed the ROM? Tried any others? Did you do a nandroid backup, if so have you tried a restore? The phone could be complicated so if you don't want to put in the effort id recommend returning it.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
Did you ask your question in the Evil Eris thread ? Maybe others running the same ROM are having similar issues.
yeah, I tried two other roms for a short time I liked this one the best. At first I didnt have any problems.
Are you suggesting i wipe this flash then reflash it again.
Also are you suggesting I restore the original.
Ive been searching just Havent found anything yet.
I really would like some input on if you guys think I should work through this with the phone. Are these phones reliable and such I dont mind tweaking it a little to get it right. But I dont want to have constant problems
HTC does make great phones. However, you shouldn't base your opinion of the phone off of hacking into it and modifying it (especially being a less-than-a-week-old first-time HTC owner who hasn't done a lot of footwork to troubleshoot the issues).
Yes you should wipe and reflash the rom and see if that does anything. If that doesnt help, do a restore (supposing you did a back up). Also a lot of these roms are over clocked so the phone can get hot from using it a lot especially if its on the charger.
Since you rooted your phone, you have void your warranty. Basically if verizon decides to check the software builds and whatnot and discovers you have rooted, you might not get another phone. There are threads on how to unroot your phone, so I suggest doing that before you return it if you decide to.
Also I might suggest sense able 3.1 very stable rom

Hey bud thanks for the positive feedback. Your help is greatly appreciated.
I do really like the phone. You know all that power in such a small package. Thats the reason for these forums I believe so that we can help eachother.
Ill try that and see what happens.
I really hated my eris until i started using froyo based roms.. They are a bit buggy especially the camera but well worth the effort even if just for battery life. I went from 15-20% lose an hour to 5-8% unless i use alot of data.. then its more like 10-12%.

Switch from Hero to Moment?

Okay so my wife's Palm Pre messed up and my upgrades don't come eligible until January. So, I bought a Moment off eBay for her. She doesn't care whether she uses that or my Hero.
I was considering using the Moment. I know of a forum like this to go to so I can mod and root the Moment. But I am not sure if it is better performance wise and battery wise than my Hero.
What do y'all think? Should I keep the Hero or hack into the Moment?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I have both the hero and the moment and performance wise moment is better. If u go to androidmobilesupport.com they haves really good rom there called keebler and from pics of it it has a higher than stock n1 and htc desire

I think you are the first Moment owner I have heard say this about ANY phone, let alone the Hero.
Its funny I got my Hero because I had my Moment replaced 4 times, before I refused another! I do agree that stock-stock comparison the Moment seems faster (maybe because of the Sense UI overhead?). The Moment's screen is much nicer as well, and I actually prefer the hardware keyboard! My Hero's battery lasts much longer than the Moment's as well... But all of that is fine and dandy until the Moment starts having CDMA lockups and "Airplane Mode" bugs. That is why my phone was swapped so many times, because Sprint knows its a problem, and came out with the Intercept to cover it.
Just google "Samsung Moment EVDO lockup" and read all about it!

Sense overhead plus a faster stock processor.
Since you have both phones you might as well root the moment, but I came from that and have had my hero for about a month now. There is no real fix for the lockups, the "fix" just slows the lockups down. I am happier with my hero than the moment, the hero seems do d/l faster and better music quality with pandora through the headphone jack. Either phone is good I just could not deal with a few lockups a day with my old moments (I had it replaced 5 times). Either way you go good luck.
The Samsung Moment is by far the WORST Android phone I have ever had the misfortune of having to help my parents manage. My father decided to surprise out family with Android phones, and thankfully, he got me a Hero.
the moment is a garbage phone, too many issues with it.

Well a few days ago I recieved the Moment and I swapped my phone to that and I gave my wife my Hero.
I reloaded the latest 2.1 Fresh for her because she actually likes Sense.
I fiddled around with a few roms for the Moment from other websites. Right now I am using the latest Keebler 2.1 rom and updated kernel and it runs great.
I haven't received any data lockups, the rom goes from 800-66mHz. Battery life is great and I am getting constant 9.0+ mflops on linpack and near 500's on quadrant.
So, overall I am happy witht the swap from the Hero to the Moment.
BTW, I must say that the Moment's screen is actually awesome!!!
I have an update on my Moment...
I'm still using Keebler 3.0 rom but this time I updated the opengl drivers and overclocked it to 1060mhz. I'm getting 10's for linpack and quadrant scores are around 510.

I did go over there and look at it...... All I can say is THANK GOD I elected to get a Hero instead of the Moment when I was given the opportunity to get out from under the POC TP2's I had. Yes I know it was a downgrade in money and I lost out on it,but if I had half as much trouble as what some of the posters over there are saying about it after going through 5 TP2's ..I would have gone postal at the repair center..... I wish you all the luck with it and no data lock ups or home key issues..

Most of the problems I have (had) with the moment is harrdware based problems. And samsung is the reason. I am more or less neew to this so can someone tell me a way to backup the apps and not just the save info for them? This is the 3rd one of these things I have been through in 5 months and next is hell if I don't get another actual phone. I guess I need to find a coustom rom to run so it will stablize.

rooting is very easy, i rooted mine a couple of days ago and flashed a custom ROM today
http://theunlockr.com/2010/11/15/universal-android-rooting-method-visionary-method/
There are plenty of guides in the development section. I only rooted mine last week, after having been completely new to the android system.
To give you any advice, it would be to read around what you have to do before you actually do it. For a first time user, it could sound complicated, but it really isnt.
Also, I would go for LeeDroids custom Rom and kernel, they run immaculately.

The benefits of rooting your phone is a much faster phone and improved battery life, and much more other stuffs
the main benefit is the possibility to run apps that need special privileges... you should do when you want to run those apps. rooting by rooting is pointless...

I want to root my DHD, however I need to downgrade my phone to 2.2 from 2.2.1. Is it possible to do it on a Mac?
Any help would be great!
@eiKr, there is a whole thread about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
i really don't know, since i don't use a mac...
@niks_5in, type "LCD density" on the market and you will know what i meant! =oP need to say, i don't see any bad side effect in rooting, but since you came from iphone, you should read a lot on dev section before make any kind of change in your device...
I was on the same boat as you...
Today I decided to root it and what a difference!
Should be possible on a mac since there are osx versions of adb and fastboot available. Think there is already a pre extracted pd98img.zip available for download from the downgrade guide thread.
You don't need to run any windows exe for the downgrade.
-----
Someone Swyped my idea.
Most benefits has already been brought up, but one big benefit is to have full control over your device.
And I will soon flash the phone for the first time, just waiting for wid0w to set up a rom flashing tutorial (hopefully today).

Is that like using a higher resolution display on the phone? Can you show us a comparison?
+1 to LeeDroid 2.0.0 although you're best to look through the many available to see which one might suit you best. They're all pretty stable.
PLEASE remember that this is your choice though, nothing to do with the developer of the ROM if it goes wrong. There's plenty of information about how to do it so you should be fine! I successfully got root, s-off, recovery, and have flashed loads of different ROM's with no problems.
Be warned though that as someone else above said, it gets ridiculously addictive, you'll be checking for updates all the time!
Benefits of it for me is that I have control over my device. I got mine in the UK through Orange and there was a load of "bloatware" on there which I would never use but couldn't uninstall. Rooting and a new ROM solved this plus when a stable gingerbread ROM comes out, I'll be at the front of the line for it rather than wait for my service carrier to provide the update!

Yeah you can change the DPI in the boot.prop. Ill get some screenshots of my Streak up when I get home.
Yeah, I rooted mine because of those preinstaled applications such as stocks, filckr or news which i never used and they still kept running in the background. You can also make your DHD even faster by OC (+30% of CPU performance - safely), make the speaker louder so you can finaly hear it. Most (if not all) of the ROMs available are also faster and smoother than the stock and they should improve your battery life. However it is not my case, cause since i flashed the new ROM (Core Droid - nice eyecandy and super smooth) i'm still playing with the phone and sometimes i have to recharge twice a day
Its thruth that you can brick your phone for good, but if you carefuly follow instructions on this forum and think twice, its 100% safe (or 99.9999% at least).
Just one advice that might prove useful and i haven't seen it here on the forum. After flashing a new ROM, do not erase the instalation .zip filefrom the SD. Can be useful if something goes wrong, especialy if you dont have a card reader
just search for "visionary"
its a one click root tool
Yea I used Visionary and it's was very easy

Got my first N1

Hey guys. I'm still kind of new to Android. I've had a couple, but always found something wrong, so I returned them. Im really liking the OS coming from iPhone. I recently returned my Atrix and bought an at&t N1. So far I love it. Its running 2.3.1 on CM6.
But I would like some mod suggestions? Roms? Anything you other N1 users really like?
Also, is there a way to increase the volume? Both headphone and ear piece? Its kind of hard to hear those that are soft talkers.
Thanks guys!

every once in a while I try out a sense rom and quite enjoy it but I keep coming back to cyanogenmod for it's speed, stability and customizability(that's probably not a word but you know what I mean). I was the exact same way with my old htc magic. If you want to try sense, check out the Desire HD port. there are TONS of really nice features in sense. Also, some people really like the MIUI rom. Personally, I'm not a fan because it seems like it's trying to copy iOS too much but a lot of people love it.
I think I did read something about a volume hack once but I never tried it out myself. never really had any problems.. then again, I very rarely use my phone as an actual phone

Your nexus one
The nexus one is an awesome phone. But as everyone know it lacks on board storage space. This will frustrating when you are trying to load that final app and you are down to your last 20 mbs and you keep getting the Memory low error message.
A lot of roms have claimed to address this but I have tried them all and have had an N1 for about a year. CyanogenMOD is awesome but CM7 really has issues and you will fall in love with some of the features but still feel as if you need something more. I use Super AOSP with my N1. It allows me to have APPS2SD capability that was fairly easy to setup and works flawlessly. I had over 100 apps installed and my phone still showed over 160MB of storage available on the phone. I never had a force close or any problems at all really. So yeah in my opinion the N1 is great, but with a few hacks it can be excellent.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966635
Currently I am using an HTC Thunderbolt and the phone is phenomenal as well but the Nexus One is still truly a great phone. Even after being out for a year there are still phone trying to keep up with it. If only the N1 was available for Verizon I would have never made the switch.

First day with N1, reboots just after entering PIN.
Just got my first Nexus One. Wow, is it a sleek phone, and the speed increase... mmhmm. A marked difference to my now sadly departed X10i.
Came direct with 2.3.3. (it's been used as a display piece, but otherwise completely new). But then the trouble started. Constant reboots right after entering the PIN and when everything should start. Boom! Back to the X-screen and most of the time, a reboot, but sometimes it gets completely stuck there.
Succeeded in making a factory reset in the 10 seconds of working time that the phone gave me... After which things seemed to go well. Until it appeared again, again, again.
I'd re-flash, but I'm not familiar enough with the procedures. Which file should I recover with using the "update.zip"? (No custom stuff for me, this is still my first day with the phone). IF a pre-rooted version is available, I'd go for that, but if not, the stock one should do as well.

Yes I have unlocked and using my wife's on a 3 contract. just use the ZTE Black Unlock APK really really easy

No issues at all works great I would not recommend installing apps to the SD that comes with the phone as it seems to slow everything up. (We were use S2E from the market), oh only issue is the wifi wake issue but intstall Blade WiFi fix from the market and you will have no issues
Does it have wifi hotspot option?
Yes CM7 has this by default
Can the CPU be clocked?
Yes don't expect miracles, we managed 710mhz max stable what ever you do don't set it to boot at the speed until you are sure its stable as you will have to reinstall from a backup if you do
Anyone tried removing the Orange branding on the back?
No, to be honest you kind of forget its there, it does feel slightly raised I wouldn't risk trying to get it off

Ok done all the above, no problems at all, my blade does feel somewhat laggy though, not much diff to Orange branded OS, I didn't expect the smoothness of my DHD though, not sure if pumping my CPU to 750mhz and locking up the OS might have affected it? Rebooted back to normal but it just feels like its dying a slow death, how smooth is everyone else's? Cheers.

I wouldn't go over 650MHz. Are you using Apps2Sd (EXT version) if so is your SD card a class 2 card? Mines smooth on CM7 with Live Wallpapers. Maybe it just feels slower since you're coming from a Desire HD?
Well One Problem With The "Stable" Release Is that it reboots when you charge it.
Also Make Sure You Have A GEN 1 phone or CM7 Will brick it unless you install the special rom addon
It won't brick it, just won't boot up. This is due to incorrect Lib files.
I am on CM 7.0 stable also. Everything works perfect, except when I charge it reboots 1 time and then is ok. For first 5 chargings or so it did not restart at all. Could be when I use GPS?
Today I decrease min frequency to 122 Mhz instead of 2xx. Should this extend my battery life?
