Hey guys. I'm still kind of new to Android. I've had a couple, but always found something wrong, so I returned them. Im really liking the OS coming from iPhone. I recently returned my Atrix and bought an at&t N1. So far I love it. Its running 2.3.1 on CM6.
But I would like some mod suggestions? Roms? Anything you other N1 users really like?
Also, is there a way to increase the volume? Both headphone and ear piece? Its kind of hard to hear those that are soft talkers.
Thanks guys!

every once in a while I try out a sense rom and quite enjoy it but I keep coming back to cyanogenmod for it's speed, stability and customizability(that's probably not a word but you know what I mean). I was the exact same way with my old htc magic. If you want to try sense, check out the Desire HD port. there are TONS of really nice features in sense. Also, some people really like the MIUI rom. Personally, I'm not a fan because it seems like it's trying to copy iOS too much but a lot of people love it.
I think I did read something about a volume hack once but I never tried it out myself. never really had any problems.. then again, I very rarely use my phone as an actual phone
Welcome! Got my 1st N1 a couple of weeks ago...it beats the crap out of the newer phones IMHO. CM7 is running great for me.

I agree. Still a better phone than the new ones. With the help of a friend, I just flashed CM7. The only force close I got was you tube.
I would still like to find some thing about the volume.
And anything about using an OC kernal on CM7?

the first phone I've seen that I would get over the nexus one is the evo 3d
and it's still missing a few things that the nexus one has..
it's a shame
anyway, you should be able to play around with dsp manager to get things a bit louder I think
N-1
I have a Droid X I have had for about 6 mos. While my DX has GB and has benchmarked at 2137 I miss my N-1! Don't get me wrong I love my DX but that N-1 was sweet! Keep it! It isn't a developer phone for nothing. I miss my Nexus One!
Welcome to XDA and the awesome Nexus1...Happy Flashing!
Im currently typing this on my Atrix, patiently waiting the arrival of the at&t N1 that I just ordered. I feel like somekind of prisoner carrying this Atrix. Can't wait to be free.

Your nexus one
The nexus one is an awesome phone. But as everyone know it lacks on board storage space. This will frustrating when you are trying to load that final app and you are down to your last 20 mbs and you keep getting the Memory low error message.
A lot of roms have claimed to address this but I have tried them all and have had an N1 for about a year. CyanogenMOD is awesome but CM7 really has issues and you will fall in love with some of the features but still feel as if you need something more. I use Super AOSP with my N1. It allows me to have APPS2SD capability that was fairly easy to setup and works flawlessly. I had over 100 apps installed and my phone still showed over 160MB of storage available on the phone. I never had a force close or any problems at all really. So yeah in my opinion the N1 is great, but with a few hacks it can be excellent.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966635
Currently I am using an HTC Thunderbolt and the phone is phenomenal as well but the Nexus One is still truly a great phone. Even after being out for a year there are still phone trying to keep up with it. If only the N1 was available for Verizon I would have never made the switch.

I know that exact feeling. I loved about 98% of my Atrix. But I know it will never gets roms like the N1. It's amazing how well it runs for being as old as it is. I really hope Google gets with HTC again for their next Nexus. I wont buy a Nexus S. Enjoy your N1 when you get it.
CM 7 isn't perfect, but I like it so far. I'll probably flash something different in a couple days.

So I'm having a couple issues with CM 7 and since I don't have 10 posts yet, ill post here.
None of my e-mails in gmail are coming through. I have auto on, but they aren't getting pushed. I have to go into my gmail app and high refresh to get my e-mails.
Also, on my last rom, push notifications worked for Facebook. But they aren't on CM7.
Also my battery life seems to have gotten worse since the other 2.3 rom I had.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

First day with N1, reboots just after entering PIN.
Just got my first Nexus One. Wow, is it a sleek phone, and the speed increase... mmhmm. A marked difference to my now sadly departed X10i.
Came direct with 2.3.3. (it's been used as a display piece, but otherwise completely new). But then the trouble started. Constant reboots right after entering the PIN and when everything should start. Boom! Back to the X-screen and most of the time, a reboot, but sometimes it gets completely stuck there.
Succeeded in making a factory reset in the 10 seconds of working time that the phone gave me... After which things seemed to go well. Until it appeared again, again, again.
I'd re-flash, but I'm not familiar enough with the procedures. Which file should I recover with using the "update.zip"? (No custom stuff for me, this is still my first day with the phone). IF a pre-rooted version is available, I'd go for that, but if not, the stock one should do as well.

You can reflash your N1 to 2.2 with the instructions from wiki. After that you should get back to 2.3.3 with OTA update.

It's official, after being on Android since its inception, I officially HATE the vibrant and I HATE Tmobile for not having phones like the EVO or Incredible and giving us that crappy HD worthless 2. I've had so many issues with this phone. And now the frustrations continue and I give up.
I flashed Eugene's Vibrant5 and the damn lag fix and rebooted my phone only to find that:
1. My entire voicemail box was erased and I had several unheard voicemails from today. I have to set my voicemail box up as if I never had one. I've never had this happen before and I don't know what on earth gives but i'm irritated
2. Now Windows 7 does not recognize my device so I can't get into ADB to flash JAC's Kernel. I went through a lot of frustration yesterday to finally get Windows 7 to recognize the device and now I'm back to square one. I refuse to go through the same crap to get Windows 7 to recognize my device, I installed the latest drivers so that's it, f*ck this phone. Who makes a phone with no L.E.Ds and a piece of sh*t battery life anyway???
I HATE THIS PHONE!!!!!!!!!!
So, you hate the phone because YOU took the risk of modifying and now you don't like the results?? Flashing your phone has nothing to do with your voicemail since your phone doesn't host voiceemail box, so not sure what you did there.
Did you research the phone before you bought it? Hope your within the 14 day window to return it.
Cya later then.

The voicemail thing is a Tmobile issue, not the phone. It's how Tmobile has decided to implement VVM on android. It's lame and happens even if you had gone back to a completely stock rom. You shouldn't have lost your messages tho, just install the app and refresh your inbox, they should all be there again.
As for your other problem, are you using Windows 7 64bit? For some reason there are issues with some 64bit Windows 7 machines and the Samsug drivers.
I've got 2 computers running 64bit one works perfectly the other some things work some don't. I have several other Windows 7 32bit systems and they all work without any issue. I think this problem has been mentioned in several of the Odin threads for what it's worth.
Sounds like someone got over their head with different MODs to their phone and can't figure out a way back. Complaining about a phone because Windows won't recognize it sounds like you have a problem with Windows and not Samsung. Maybe you ought to flash the stock ROM and wait for more "user-friendly" MODs to come along. Day by day I am slowly not wanting to even look here for info on my phone due to moronic posts like this.
I'm with tweak on this one... Sounds like you're angry at the modifications you've tried to apply and failed at. The lagfix is a beta mod thats extremely risky since it uses EXT2 format and the data can be easily corrupted if the phone powers down abruptly. The stock vibrant is a very fast and stable phone (I came from a Nexus One and i love the vibrant).
Are you sure you "set up" your visual voicemail app? I find it hard to beleive the phone some how "deleted" your VM's. that just doesnt make sense, since they're not even stored on the phone. try dialing 1.
Good luck with your next phone.
No one cares. I don't get why people randomly rant.
Ill buy it for the $100 its on sale for today through tmobile. Pm me!
Bye bye, have fun with your new sheep phone ...

No it's not Tmobile, I had flashed another rom and went back to stock using ODIN and my voicemail was fine, it only happened after I flashed Vibrant5 and the lagfix. I've had a lot of issues with this phone since day one so I'm obviously majorly annoyed. I know how to get back that's not the issue, I'm really annoyed with the phone in general, it's a great upgrade from the MyTouch and design wise I like it a bit better than my Nexus one but MODing this thing is irritating, I've never had issues with my Nexus, MyTouch or G1 so it's not me. The samsung drivers are just lame. I prefer using ADB and it's just really annoying. I have 3 other phones and I can easily sell this one for much more than I bought it for, I paid $109 corporate discount and I'm tempted to put this b*tch on Craigslist for $350 and I know it would sell today. But then I'd be left with my nexus one which I like but am bored with, I modded the hell out of it already, so I don't know, I think I'm just going to switch back to my Nexus one until my stress levels decrease.

I've got 2 Vibrant's beside me as I type this. I've tried several different versions of the lag fix as well as a few of the roms (deodexed, Vibrant, etc) on both. EVERY one of them requires VVM to be re-setup as does the stock rom if/when you revert to it via Odin. In every case your messages are still there once you have reloaded/re-synced the app. Not sure why you would consider that something to blame the phone for, it's part of setting everything back up after a flash as far as I see it.
P.S. If you don't think part of the problem is Tmobile, go check out a Droid or Droid X and see how different and better integrated VVM is on those devices.
P.P.S. For clarification above I meant to say everytime a new ROM is flashed, I've never had to re-setup VVM for the lag fix etc..

The only issue I have had so far is that my time zone tick does not stick when I reboot the phone so everyday I have to re-untick it so that the time dont change on me when I drive into Texas, which I have to do 5 days a week for my employer. Other than that it works perfectly on Windows 7 64bit here. Still wish we had linux support though. lol

Yeah, for that price I would also sell it, but I would turn around and buy a new one. I LOVE my Vibrant. All it really lacks is Dev support and it sounds to me that is your only real issue also, crappy drivers and lack of dev support. My GF loves her Evo, so you should probably change carriers and get one of them instead. Oh and my brother loves his Incredible to, both are very nice phones.
good luck
I think user is suffering from the ID10T error.

vibrant is not a bad phone...its a REALLY good phone, does everyhting i need it to...
So basically what I get out of this is your upset because you don't know how to install drivers on Windows 7 and that the device is not fully mod ready from day one? HTC Android devices have been here since the start (G1), that is why there is such high support and why the turn around is so quick for them to be modded. The Galaxy S series is Samsungs first "real" attempt at a powerful Android device. ADB works fine, learn to install the drivers. The only real issue with the device is the GPS which is already been acknowledged. Also voicemail is hosted not stored. Installing roms and modding your phone does not affect your voicemail. God I hate stupid people, mods please delete this thread.
OP your best bet is to get an iPhone and leave us alone - thanks.
Its been what a month or so since the phone has been out?
If you where truly here when the G1 first hit then you seriously can not talk about frustration.
Okay so my wife's Palm Pre messed up and my upgrades don't come eligible until January. So, I bought a Moment off eBay for her. She doesn't care whether she uses that or my Hero.
I was considering using the Moment. I know of a forum like this to go to so I can mod and root the Moment. But I am not sure if it is better performance wise and battery wise than my Hero.
What do y'all think? Should I keep the Hero or hack into the Moment?

I think you are the first Moment owner I have heard say this about ANY phone, let alone the Hero.
Its funny I got my Hero because I had my Moment replaced 4 times, before I refused another! I do agree that stock-stock comparison the Moment seems faster (maybe because of the Sense UI overhead?). The Moment's screen is much nicer as well, and I actually prefer the hardware keyboard! My Hero's battery lasts much longer than the Moment's as well... But all of that is fine and dandy until the Moment starts having CDMA lockups and "Airplane Mode" bugs. That is why my phone was swapped so many times, because Sprint knows its a problem, and came out with the Intercept to cover it.
Just google "Samsung Moment EVDO lockup" and read all about it!

Sense overhead plus a faster stock processor.
Since you have both phones you might as well root the moment, but I came from that and have had my hero for about a month now. There is no real fix for the lockups, the "fix" just slows the lockups down. I am happier with my hero than the moment, the hero seems do d/l faster and better music quality with pandora through the headphone jack. Either phone is good I just could not deal with a few lockups a day with my old moments (I had it replaced 5 times). Either way you go good luck.
The Samsung Moment is by far the WORST Android phone I have ever had the misfortune of having to help my parents manage. My father decided to surprise out family with Android phones, and thankfully, he got me a Hero.

Well a few days ago I recieved the Moment and I swapped my phone to that and I gave my wife my Hero.
I reloaded the latest 2.1 Fresh for her because she actually likes Sense.
I fiddled around with a few roms for the Moment from other websites. Right now I am using the latest Keebler 2.1 rom and updated kernel and it runs great.
I haven't received any data lockups, the rom goes from 800-66mHz. Battery life is great and I am getting constant 9.0+ mflops on linpack and near 500's on quadrant.
So, overall I am happy witht the swap from the Hero to the Moment.
BTW, I must say that the Moment's screen is actually awesome!!!
I have an update on my Moment...
I'm still using Keebler 3.0 rom but this time I updated the opengl drivers and overclocked it to 1060mhz. I'm getting 10's for linpack and quadrant scores are around 510.

I did go over there and look at it...... All I can say is THANK GOD I elected to get a Hero instead of the Moment when I was given the opportunity to get out from under the POC TP2's I had. Yes I know it was a downgrade in money and I lost out on it,but if I had half as much trouble as what some of the posters over there are saying about it after going through 5 TP2's ..I would have gone postal at the repair center..... I wish you all the luck with it and no data lock ups or home key issues..

Most of the problems I have (had) with the moment is harrdware based problems. And samsung is the reason. I am more or less neew to this so can someone tell me a way to backup the apps and not just the save info for them? This is the 3rd one of these things I have been through in 5 months and next is hell if I don't get another actual phone. I guess I need to find a coustom rom to run so it will stablize.

Didn't like the moment because of the slide-out keyboard
I currently have the Original Droid, which has been a great phone in terms of what you have been able to do to it and it's reliability. My question is; how do the owners of the Epic feel about their phone? Still happy with it? Like the roms that have come out for it? And since I haven't paid much attention to Sprint, up until now, any other phones down the line I should think about? My contract with Verizon is up in 3 months.
Yes if you like a hardware keyboard then get the Epic it's a great phone you won't be dissapointed
If you like running the latest and Greatest software then the Nexus S will be out for sprint in like a month.
If you want a powerhouse of a phone then the Evo3D should be out by June following what they did with the original Evo

Thanks for the link!
I never buy phones on contract, and swapped from an iPhone to a Moto Droid in May of last year. Loved the Android platform, since I'm a programmer and super-user -- not a dumb user, the way the iPhone continued to fail.
I switched to the Epic 4G around October of that year (bought off-contract as well, ESN was clear, but ended up still being attached to an account... got scammed and ported it to Cricket myself). Love the keyboard. Love the screen. Not a bad phone at all. I wouldn't buy it on contract, though, since the new phones are coming out. But in my mind, the Epic is a definite upgrade from the Droid, albeit still not quite as flexible as the original Droid was in terms of development and ROMs (was on Sapphire with Droid -- tried pretty much all the different ROMs for Epic and they're nice, but not as nice as something mostly AOSP, i.e. CM7 or Sapphire). Waiting patiently for Epic's CM7 to be mostly stable so I can try to ROM with that -- having very high hopes for it.
So in a nutshell, yes, great phone. But, the only issue is that the phone will be outdated rather quick, though I don't think we're going to see another contender with a decent keyboard for a while with dual-core processors, etc (re: I'm guessing a year). No comment on Sprint service, but double check with reviews in your area to see how coverage, etc, is before making the jump.

I would stay away from this phone if I were you. The roms I've tried are all pretty good, but never perfect for me. I can tell you the current stock rom is still sub par. I would get the HTC if I you. I know people on here will tell you it's not a good of a phone, but I can tell you it works a hell of a lot better. If you really want this phone I will trade you mine + I'll give you $100 if you get the evo and trade me. I'm trying to sell mine now! my phones of on really good shape, no damage to it at all. If you're interested or anyone else, pm me! But to be honest this phone is not really worth it.

DON'T LISTEN TO THIS GUY. His intelligence is showing with trying to trade you for a lesser quality phone. The evo shift does not have an amoled screen or the gpu power the epic has. This phone is amazing and will be amazing for atleast 2 years. This phone will hold up to the dual cores of this year hands down. I've been with sprint for 9 years and they keep getting better. Development could be stronger but we have gotten EVERYTHING WE NEEDED FROM OUR DEVS HERE. CM7 is in progress and there is a stable alpha.

It's a great phone now. Got mine for the second time on friday and updated that evening ota. I also have a Evo and Evo shift and had the dual core Atrix(hype at this point imho).
The Epic is my favorite although i do prefer the keyboard on the Evo shift cause its smaller which is odd but rue

Well maybe you like having to spend a million hours to get the phone to work, but for me, not really. It's almost a full time job trying to get this thing to work right! I agree the hardware is great, but not worth the fight to make it work right. I've spent hours flashing this thing since the new update and I will tell you I still have problems with this phone. If you would like me to list all the problems with my phone I would be happy to do so!

YOU have issues, the vast majority of people are capable of flashing a ROM correctly and troubleshooting any problems they might have, don't dissuade someone from purchasing a phone they want because YOU have problems using it correctly.
I really do like my phone and the ROMs are smoke'n.
They have been having a bit of an issue releasing Froyo that doesn't have some level of suckage.
We're expecting a 3rd try this week.
What balances that are the AWESOME devs for it; they popout an updated ROM with the latest update in no time at all.
Everyone is spot on in regards to hardware keyboard, I find myself (I HAD to have a real keyboard) actually using the swype keyboard way more than the physical one. Go figure.
Some GPS issues; though each update makes it a bit better.
There is a reason that this phone is the #1 selling PDA phone.
Having all said that, in a few months there will be some really powerful stuff that will just blow the doors off anything currently available. If I were in your position. I'd go for a multi-processor phone.
Good luck
I say get an evo.
Theres a whole lot more going on with the evo development that its a much more flexible phone.
Our phone has a lot of potential, but with a fracyion of evo/droid devs its harder for the epic to get there.

Check out the hardware keyboard fix from mkasick - it's implemented in SRF 1.1.0 and its accompanying kernel, Twilight Zone 1.1.0. If you don't want to leave your current ROM, give Twilight Zone a try. The fix is an adjustable one - so you can set the value as low as you want. That should completely eliminate any issues you're having.

These forums speak for them selves. You don't see half the problems in the HTC forums. Also if you have BOTH phones you would know how many more problems there are on this phone. I would wait for the nexus s if you want a sammy. I would not choose this phone again if I had it to do over.

I do have both, and have had few issued with either, I made the choice to stick with the Epic as my daily driver because its a much nice phone hardware wise and significantly lighter. I find it difficult to believe you would have any of the issues you're having if you properly flashed it.

I can't even tell you how many times I've flashed this phone trying to get an optimal set up. I have found that over all I've had less problems with the stock rom, but it is still a lot more buggy than the evo. I would just give this phone to my girlfriend and take her evo, but I don't think she would know what to do if the phone went haywire on her. Hers is stock and I've had far less issues with it than this phone. The only times I had any real issues with her evo is when I tried to mess with it. Trust me man, I thought I was the one screwing up this phone, that's why I'm trying out the stock hardware! All I'm saying there are a lot more issues. Trust me I bought this phone for the same reasons as everyone else! I'm just getting sick and tired of having to Odin the damn thing everyone 3 to 4 weeks! I thought a program may have been causing it, so now I'm trying stock ROM EC and I've only rooted it. I've downloaded XDA, Poynt, Blow up, and the Chase apps. These are the only apps I have on here now, so I was hoping that it was maybe an app causing my problems. Today I had my first problem since going to my current set up. I've been talking about it in this forum, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12464672#post12464672. I'm hoping that it's something that I just needed to reboot my phone. The only other thing I can think that made my phone go black screen is when I use the media player and play videos. I'm hoping it's not one of the apps, but I haven't been able to replicate the problem today. I'm just saying that my girl doesn't have any of these issues with the evo and right now I'm basically on the edge with this phone!!!! I also don't want to shell out a bunch more money for a phone so I just kind of have to deal with it and hope I can find a solution, but I would not recommend this phone to anyone after what I've been through! The Nexus S may be a different story since it's stock, but not this phone!

I'm not gonna say that flashing isn't a complicated thing. But that's your choice and if you really want to experience amazing ui then it takes time of the individual to figure how and what they can and can not do. That's why there is 1 click root. Flashing is not meant for everyone so if you don't have the time that's cool but don't blame the phone for your short comings either in time or intelligence or pesistence.

Trust me I've flashed this phone many times. I'm sorry to tell you that when you flash Roms and kernels there are still going to be some problems. I realise that you may want to flash Roms and kernels to make the phone run a certain way, otherwise there wouldn't be multiple roms or kernels to flash if everything worked perfect with one. You're showing your ignorance if you think that a flashed rom and/or kernel is going to be problem free. There's a reason why there are constant updates to the roms and kernels.
I'm just tired of doing it and you should be able to use the phone, without it crashing, without having to mess with it. I don't think it's too much to ask for the phone to not crash when it's stock. Maybe I need to go to full stock with out root. Maybe that's what's causing the phone to mess up. That's my next option!
Edit: I wish I could see other things you've bought. Just curious what type of repairs you had to do to them...
Not sure why you would expect something to NOT work correctly out of the box? You make a valid point it shouldn't work correctly stock..........

Whatever you do, do NOT get the Epic. Even if it's free. The keyboard TO THIS DAY does not work properly. It still misses keys and it's not layed out all that well either. I came from a g1 that had a keyboard that ACTUALLY registered keys, even if you type faster than my grandma. Please do not get the epic, get the evo shift or wait for something else on Verizon.

Its 2011, im wondering... does anyone still actually use it? If yes, what do you do and stuff
Good phone.
I use one Nokia with Symbian S60V5 and this wonderful Dream. i have Mod Version: COS-DS-07162011, ANDROID 2.3.4, Still battery drain in 24-36 hours with normal use. On heavy use it resist only 12-14 hours. it is a little slow but still has all that i need.

yes there are lots of people that still use a G1, there are plenty of developers out there still working on roms and everything like myself. im guessing if it was your moms that the device is not yet rooted, so that would be your first step...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098899
than you can flash any of the latest roms to your device making it 10x better than stock G1
Good for out of country when unlock
I am currently using my G1 actively. It is a good phone to have when you go on vacation to other country. Especially if you have it unlock already. So you do not have to pay international rates when making a phone call. All you have to do is purchase SIM for that country and use it at the local rates.
I've known people who have had it and need a cheap phone so I have mine coming in the mail hopefully around this upcoming Wednesday. I saw that android development still looks pretty strong so until i scrape up enough money for a newer phone lol, Imma basically be using it for mainly texting(though i heard that calls aren't bad on it), and as a smaller version of my Archos IT 101 16GB
still using it
am it becomes the main one I mess with, as it IS the developer phone one.
I just started using it as an upgrade to the HTC vouge
I wonder why the G1 but not the MT3G was kept as a high-activity device
Its amazing how it people are still using it.
As for a developers phone or/and unlocked phone, dont you guys think the Nexus One is good? I mean, its great and unlocked when bought (well... when i bought it)
I still have it and use it sometimes
Hi - I've been given a G1 and I like it - it's my first smartphone. I would like it to be faster.
I've gone thru the Root G1 instructions Step1. When I got to the "Alt S" bit, the update didn't get applied - it said aborted and also I got an error E: can't open/cache/recovery/command.
I carried on thru the rest until 4) when my backup recovery failed consequently after typing the sdcard... bit, the flash recovery button did not light up.
I've done this twice now and it's been the same each time. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for looking.
Ok Guys - used Alt Root Method #1 - worked like a charm. Thanks to Habitat22.
Still going!
I'm still using a G1 too. I get the wants for one of the dozen of new phones out there all the time and then think why? My G1 does all I need. I love the physical keyboard! With the work of some dedicated devs, it is running Gingerbread just fine and I just ported a new theme for it today.
I can say quite happily me and my G1 will be together for a long time yet. Yes there are new sparkly toys out there but my ikkle ole G1 still plays nicely and does everything I want beautifully so why the hell get rid? I really couldn't even imagine owning another phone I love it that much, the greatest hard keyboard any phone will ever see ever amen EVER!
There is a few things about the G1 you cant get in a new phone. The hard keyboard layout, an actual track ball, and a notification LED.
It calls, texts & emails perfectly. So as long as your not going to run some heavy apps, then really it still is the perfect phone.
Hi everyone,
I am about to buy a used Nexus One. I tried looking for a new one but they are nowhere to be found. I need the one that has the 850/1900 3G bands. I know the Nexus One is an old phone, but I like the size of it and it's still a powerful device. I have a few questions. I checked out a couple of used Nexus One and both of them had issues with the back return key and the home key. The guy that I'm going to meet next week assured me that everything is working fine on his device. He had it for 1.5 yr and took care of it. I have read the issues with the power button. What else should I test the unit for? Also, how can I tell that I am buying the right Nexus One for Rogers Wireless in Canada? I read somewhere that on the back battery door if it says "PB99110" this is the 850/1900. Is that correct?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Happy New Year everyone!!!
I'm assuming Rogers uses a GSM network, and if so you would already be a Rogers customer correct? You could put your sim card into the phone, boot it up and verify that you are receiving 3G and that the phone calls out correctly and receives calls correctly.
Also, you can go to Settings> About Phone> Status and see information on the phone and network. You might find some of the information you're looking for there. If you're looking specifically for 3G you would see something related to UMTS or HSPA.
Hope you figure it out, good luck.
Yes Rogers is a GSM provider. Rogers has the same bands as AT&T. So I'm assuming as long as I see 3G data on the device, it does have the correct 3G bands. Is there anything else I need to look or check for on the Google One before buying?

I would turn it off and on making sure you don't see anything odd on the boot up and check the volume buttons. If he's selling the desk dock with it drop it in the dock and make sure it charges. Also check all of the soft buttons at the bottom of the phone. They're touch sensitive and you don't want to get home and realize the home button doesn't work at all.
Besides that I don't know what else to look for. Maybe try opening web pages, a you tube video, check for audio, etc. You might also want to double check which version of Android it's running so you know if it's stock or if it's a modified ROM.
Also, I have a AT&T Nexus One so I looked for the number you listed. I pulled off the battery door and behind the battery in the top left corner was PB99110 which you mentioned in your first post. It should be written in gray lettering on the black portion below the barcodes. Looks like if you see those numbers you should be good to go on Rogers.
"sola fide" thanks for your help. Good advice on turning the phone off and on. It does come with a charging dock but we're nowhere near a location that has a power supply so I can't test that out. I will do my usual checks when I buy a used phone, test the browser, music player to make sure the speakers are working fine, make a test call, etc. Now that I know there are issues with the power button ad soft keys, I'll test those out more. He said he never modded the phone so I'm assuming if I see 2.1 Eclair on the device, it's the stock rom.
Thanks for confirming PB99110 is the correct model for Rogers & AT&T.
Modding =/= Updating. It could be running froyo or gingerbread

The N1 got over the air updates up to Android 2.3.6 and I believe it is version GRK39. If you are running that, it should be the latest officially supported version.

Thanks for confirming that. I did end up getting the N1 and it is running 2.3.6. I want to root it to CyanogenMod but I don't feel comfortable doing it by myself. I'll wait when my brother pops by and get him to help me out. I never rooted an Android before so that's why.

It is actually pretty simple to get up and running (the hardest being getting the Android SDK set up on your computer). You can check out the instructions yourself here...

I would recommend following the Amon_RA steps, as it is a little less confusing.

Thanks for the link and the advice. I still feel more comfortable with my brother's help. Once it's done, then I might feel more confident in rooting my HTC Amaze, if there are roms for that phone. I haven't looked into that yet.

Thanks
Please omit my previous post. I successfully rooted my phone to CM7! This is the first time I ever rooted a phone. Loving it so far!!!
You should try the MIUI rom, I have the latest one and its great in every aspect, otherwise, if you like a more 'clean' look try the Oxygen rom.

If Miui is like having an iPhone with widgets of Anrdoid then I'm not gonna like that. I have the iPhone4 (which is up for sale, lol) and I find it boring. So far I'm really liking CM7. One thing I did notice after I rooted the phone is my speakers distorts sometimes when I play music. Is this a known issue?

I don't play alot of music on my speaker. I use the headphones. I am not real picky with sound and stuff. As long as it works. But distortion is not good though. You will love CM7 and more to come.

I think it was me who caused the distortion. I was messing around with the phone equalizers and enabled bass boost and also had the equalizer set on bass booster. I just changed a few settings and it sounds better. I'm hoping it was my mess up and not the speakers. I really like CM7 and I'm sure I'll come to love it.
And what is your next tech gadget?
I think I got hosed. When I was asking the seller if everything was working fine on the N1 he assured me everything is working perfectly fine, even the soft keys. I tested out the phone thoroughly before buying. Everything seemed to me working fine when I was testing it out. But you can't really tell if a certain function will continue to work as I continue to use the phone. Now I'm having problems with the back soft key. I have to hit it a few times before it responds. I tried hitting it harder or at different angles and it doesn't make a difference. Any suggestions? Am I screwed?
