Eol - rip evo - EVO 4G General

I expect it to be pretty active on here for quite a while though

I guess Sprint wants to push EVO 3D sales. Either way for those who are eligible for an upgrade can get a nice deal on the Evo 4G. Thanks for the info!

Looks like Sprint getting ready for those LTE phones ...
I guess I'll be ditching my Evo 4G when that happens...

I was thinking the same thing. But i see that coming in 4Q 2012 at the least

I see now there is a similar thread and not to bump dup threads, but do you think they can roll out their LTE network that quickly?

I enjoy my evo. I hope when they transfer to lte I hope they bring back the new better evo.

Soo.. the Thunderbolt?

can someone please explain to me whats the Hype with the Htc Thunderbolt? isnt it basically a Evo with a bump in Ram and Verizon suppose Lte Network? More or less what we have had with the evo for a while now.?
Pretty much.
The core is a newer generation so its comparable to the Evo shift.
Not worth $200 with two year.
It's hyped because verizon is finally getting something to compete with us

8GB internal storage plus a bit more RAM. Looking at the specs that appears to be it, apart from LTE insetad of WiMAX. Even has the same Snapdragon processor.
Oh, there's template support for emails on the Evo but not the Thunderbolt, but who really uses templates anyway?
Unless Verizon puts a crapload of bloat on it, it might actually perform better than the Evo because of the reduced number of apps no one cares about (Navigation, NFL, NASCAR, etc.)

Verizon is enough reason to forget using the thunderbolt

Anyone who truly believes this, is an ass. The Thunderbolt is better than any Sprint phone that's out, spec wise. EVO's development is the true gem, for now. It's the only reason I still post in here, even though I have other daily drivers. Give credit where credit is due. Sprint will get their just desserts soon, trust me.

An ass why?
Will all due respect, the HTC Thunderbolt is the Evo Shift with an LTE radio.
Is that bad?
No.
Is it worth $199.99 with a two-year agreement?
Considering what we KNOW is coming very soon, no.

Actually it got the new sense as well and 1 gbz snapdragon (not the same as the evo , this is the new version ,which the shift 4G has lower ) and the shift 4G got something between the old sense and the new one but not desire hd sense tho

Well that only matters if you care about sense, but it's been suggested [and is completely realistic] that the Evo/Evo Shift will be getting the new sense.
As far as the core it's pretty much the same exact one as in the Evo Shift except instead of clocked at 800 mhz it's clocked at 1GHZ.
So, at best, it's an extremely minor spec bump from the Evo Shift.
That extra 200MHz is all that's needed to possibly get a Gingerbread update...

Well the extra MHz doesn't really give u update as Google said it they never put how much you CPU has to be to run gingerbread 800GHz should be more then enough , it all depends on HTC and Sprint

People seem to be in denial that the Evo isnt the best phone on the market anymore. And honestly the LTE alone was enough to make me switch. If you want to see the huge differences, look at the benchmark comparisons on youtube between the thunderbolt and the evo. It's not even remotely close.
Thunderbolt has a fatter kickstand and they put a larger speaker behind the kickstand. Pretty neat.
The HTC Thunderbolt (ADR6400 codename "Scorpion or Mecha") will be the first 4G LTE smartphone on Verizon Wireless. It is a CDMA variant of the HTC Desire HD. It was first announced at CES on January 6, 2011. This phone is to be considered the flagship phone for Verizon, going head to head with the HTC EVO.
In addition to 4G service, the Thunderbolt will be the first Verizon phone to support simultaneous Voice/Data over 3G without the help of Wi-Fi.
You can run gingerbread on your phone clocked down to 250 MHz. Animations will be choppy but it'll run just fine. So all this B.S. about mhz is b.s.

To be fair, simultaneous voice and data over 3G will be possible with Sprint as well. Verizon just happened to drop a phone that will use it first. The chipset wasn't ready when EVO was in production.Inspire 4G and HTC Thunderbolt is of the same cloth, but a minor spec to the EVO Shift, which is a carbon copy of the G2? That's just inviting the flames. Verizon's answer to the EVO was the Droid X, not the TB. People don't understand how long the EVO was being worked on by HTC and Sprint. It was a true flagship. HTC Pyramid is a true flagship, so keep your eyes on it at CTIA.

You mean that made up patched up coverage map of roaming agreements?
my 3g and 4g speeds are crazy, i normally get between 800k-1.1mbps on 3G and like 7 or 8mbps on 4G. the last major 3G speedtest done rated At&t 1st over 3G (where its available), and Sprint came in at 2nd place. ive NEVER had any signal issues with sprint. And i travel frequently. the truth of the matter is the Sprint vs Verizon battle is never ending, but at the end of the day, it only matters if it works where YOU need it to work at.
Now, I will say that we all know about sprints recent 3G data speed troubles, but im sure they will have it fixed soon. ****ty, but true.
As far as the thunderbolt goes, Im not envious of it at all. The new Snapdragon core + more ram is better, but other than the its just the Evo, with a LTE radio in it. Better than the Evo? yes. Enough to make me switch? No chance

[Q] IPhone to sprint?

I was at a sprint store this weekend and one of the reps. there told that sprint might get the iPhone at thebend of the year. Can anyone confirm this?
There is no official confirmation but it is a rumor that Apple is going to release an iPhone 4S at the end of August that will also be on Sprint and T-Mobile. We will see.
I personally don't think Sprint's network could handle it.
That's the rumor. It's not confirmed by any stretch of the imagination, but from Apple's standpoint, it makes a lot of sense. Apple is getting beat in the US by Android, and wants some of those Android sales. Plus, it looks like the next iPhone will have both radios (gsm/cdma), so it can release one phone for all networks. Now, whether you could unlock the phone to go from Sprint to AT&T, or Verizon will remain to be seen...assuming the rumors of a Sprint and T-Mobile iPhone are true...
God, I hope not. Sprint's 3G data is slow enough as it is, I can only imagine how an iPhone would perform on it. So unless they're planning on ramping up their 4G game or signing some major roaming agreements nationwide, might as well stick w/ an open-source Android!
Besides an android is so much more better than an iPhone. Why would you want that garbage?

I think this is based on their recent announcement of a partnership with Lightsquared, but I don't think it means WiMax goes away completely, it just gives them greater 4G coverage. They're keeping their options open, that is for sure.

Without a doubt there will be a port for ICS on this phone. Money has it that even the G1 will get a working port.
Even if there isnt a port, I plan on keeping my evo until Sprint rolls out their LTE network and the new phones are out.

The only way I'll give my evo up is if they get any kind of towers up in my area beside the junk 3g service i get now. I'm just glad I can get wifi, in just about every inch of my town that is unsecured.
I'm keeping my EVO until i have the money to switch to AT&T for the Galaxy Nexus.
Sorry that you want to go to AT&T. Been there done that. And there is a reason why I am with Sprint now.
For the people waiting for the new phones, you wont get unlimited internet since you will have to change your plan.
And yes the EVO will get ICS. HTC may even release a version for it. They just have not committed to it yet. But don't get your hopes up.

I dunno what you experienced, but everyone around me in Dallas with AT&T is pulling 5mb+ on 3G. My buddy at A&M says he's pulled even faster speeds down there. Unlimited data doesn't mean squat at less than 150kbs.
Nope. Ill probably downgrade to a 3g only phone or even VirginMobile. I use like 600MB per month cuz im always on a wifi.
HTC Evo 4G | Deck AOSP 2.3.7 | Tiamat 4.0.5-sbc
Nope. I'd start working on the ICS build myself.
And even though this isn't the case, and CM9 is all but guaranteed to show up on the Evo (as it's in the top 3 devices they have users for, iirc), I'm still planning on helping out.

This is the only differentiator Sprint has and the only thing keeping me from heading to Verizon who has significantly better coverage in my area (even with my Airvana at home).
I don't see anything that says you lose unlimited internet for upgrading your phone and why would you need to change plans anyway??

Never happen.
CM9 or a good AOSP are our best bet. I've been giving the GS II 4G a long hard look, but a nice AOSP ICS build with 4G working would keep me happy for a while longer.
I'd dump Sense for ICS AOSP easy.
Hey, if ICS never get ported maybe we can hold out for Jelly Bean (j/k)
My EVO does everything I need it to do and I don't see any compelling reason to upgrade until sprint flips on the LTE switch in my area and pushes out a decent ICS/LTE phone. Of course by the time that happens Google will be prepping Marshmallow for release... I'm on wifi 99% of the day, though I can appreciate peeps agrivation with Sprint that do rely on mobile data. I suspect my EVO 4G will die with only about 5 minutes of Wi-Max use to it's credit. That makes me face a little.
Read today that the nexus 1 will not get an official release of ics due to hardware. Adreno 200 issues? I don't know. I'm sure there will be a port though.

Each area listed in the rollout really encompasses many cities. For instance in wave 2 starting in May it lists Orlando but clicking on that link you find Orlando really includes about 8-10 cities including Daytona and Holly Hill where I live. So that is what is meant by 70 cities by the end of 2012.

It'd be a real dilemma to have to subsist on 3G (which is pathetic in many Sprint areas) when getting an LTE phone if all you have is WiMax 4G in your area for the foreseeable future. I hope I can make it to the end of 2012 with the Epic, letting my contract expire and so on. Lot of uncertainty with Sprint these days, although I'd like to stick with them if I can.
When are we getting a slider? The real question should be when are we getting ANY new phone lol. We are in a major phone drought right now while everyone waits for the lte rollout. Ugh...

If VZW had a decent slider, I would have jumped ship a while ago. Droid 4 isn't much better than what we have (actually, worse), so staying with Sprint.
The Epic 4G came out in August 2010, so hopefully the 2-year anniversary yields an awesome new slider phone with:
- 4G LTE
- 4-inch+ screen
- 8MP+ camera
I will ditch my Epic 4G in Q4 2012 or Q1/Q2 2013 depending on Sprint's LTE coverage and Clearwire's planned LTE rollout. If Sprint gets rid of its unlimited data plans, then I may jump to Verizon.
unfortunately att and verizon are just to expensive. the plans are way more than sprint & tmobile. But push come to shove i may jump to att. they are slightly less expensive than verizon and i may get a discount for having uverse tv & internet.
this lack of phone options from sprint is getting really old.
