best virtuous unity setup (kernal and radio question) - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i just flashed 1.29 for the rom and i was just wondering if i should switch radios and if i should which would be the best one? and are there any kernals that provide better battery life compared to the stock one? im really new to all of this so any help would be appreciated.

I hear v5 is a good kernel and faux123 always has good stuff. I'm also on 1.29, I've been getting great battery life with the stock kernel so there us no need to change it for me. I'm only averaging 1.5mbps though with full bars, will a new radio help data speeds? I've been reading about radios but still not too sure what they do. Can anyone suggest a radio that is good with this rom?

try the panache radio or any of the gingerbread radios. some works better than others. They may or may not give you stronger signals and faster data transfer. However your battery life may change too, for better or worse. You'll have to experiment with each radio.

T-Mobile Wing Signal Strength

I hope somebody can help me with this. I have a T-Mobile Wing and I can't get a signal in my office. I have no office phone to use either, so its really annoying because I miss some important calls. Also other employees in my office have AT&T and Sprint and there phone work fine. I've even had Sprint just a few years ago. At first I wasn't able to get a signal and then suddenly my signal maxed out in the same are. I'm not going to be able to opt out of my contract either. So I was wondering if anybody knows of any tweaks that can boost your signal strength. I'm willing to try anything and I'm only a slight noob (I recently just flashed my rom, first time I tried I bricked my phone but I got it back up and the second time i worked like a charm). So if anybody knows of any hacks or anything like that, that could work I will thank you forever.
P.S. No those little stickers on the phone don't work.
you can try to flash different radio into your wing. In my experience, 3.18.9 has the best performance.
Really?! Okay a few questions. I'm slightly a noob so how would I go about doing that? What would I have to change in my rom? Do you have any links that could show me how to do that? And finally I have flashed my rom by I was just changing the pagepool settings, will this flash effect anything I have already changed?
Flashing the radio just like flashing a new rom, but it only change the radio and the other is still intact. You will have to hardSPL your phone and then find the radio.nbh file, and flash it. You will have to do some readings regard hardspl and flashing. I personally don't want to give further instructions since I don't want to be blamed if you brick your phone or something. The other members had written very good guides (which should be much better than mine) on flashing and other issues.
Radio ROM 03.21.90 has the best signal with extended battery life. My signal improved and my battery lasts way much longer! Believe me on this.

I agree with the battery life, but on signal strength, 3.18.9 is better on me. I actually tried them two as the same time and same place. I flashed one and then tried the other. In my classroom, 3.21.9 has nothing but 3.18.9 has a bar. My guess is that it also depends on your rom. I heard different roms have different results. Anyway, try some of them and you will know what's best for you

Having signal problems? Here's the fix!

This was the original scenario:
When my phone is in standby, I get 42% of the time without signal.
I was using a 2.12 radio, and damn, half of the time people couldn't reach me or only after a while.
So here's the deal, if you have any trouble with getting signal,
just change your radio to 2.10.50.X
have a nice day
I currently use
RADIO_2105026

and get 98% coverage.

I'm running the latest hyperdroid, this is way to much, but I think it's RADIO-related, can this be possible?

I m facing the same issue as what you have described. No answer right now .
What radio are you running? Try 2.14, it can't hurt.
2.12, I already know the newest causes the same problem

sure, you should try a 2.10, the newer ones always seem to tend this way
okay: for al those who are in need of a proper radio, with 98% reception all of the time, use this one:
RADIO_2105026
I get only 1-2% without signal. maybe someone can cleanup this post and make it sticky, as it is I think, fairly important for ppl. to know they are almost half of the time out of range with a bad radio, for android a suggest a 2.10.50.X radio!
I think it has to do with your carrier, some Radio images work better with other carriers.
BTW, which app are you using to measure your signal strength?
I use battery indicator for measurement of % without signal. For signal strenght/dbm signal status bar, hope that helps you
I'd say it'll also have to do with the carrier. I know a handful of people with a 2.12 and have no reception problems, and likewise for 2.14. Users should definitely try out different radios, but I wouldn't going as far as saying 2.10 is the one and only.
Just to be an oddball around here, I'm on 2.14 right now and it has served me better than a 2.10

This thread is pointless, It is carrier dependant, why you should try several before starting threads about ones that don't work!
Some will give you better signal whilst giving quicker battery drain, others will be the opposite, others will give you a good balance, it's all down to trial and error, it's never the case of 'it doesn't work'
I'm running 2.14 and have no issue at all, full signal most of the time and after 3 charge cycles battery is great also, try a few radios for a few days each before coming to the conclusion they 'don't work'

<_< this thread is not pointless, and if it's carrier dependant, we could maybe make a sticky and ppl post results with there findings for carriers then.
All radio's work, but not all are even effective. And believe me, I tried like 50 radio's before.. 2.12 gave me great call quality but huge battery drain and signal drops, no radio is perfect, but carrier dependant, lol yes some carriers just suck, but I should have signal all the time, I'm on the two biggest networks of my country, providing coverage everywhere, and I tested those out, it really looks like the radio is more affecting it, ofc you will NEVER get the same results with any carrier, but when doing research, you will see that the radio affects your signal. Just try for your self in stead of telling me this thread is pointless. Some radios might be better for some networks, in that case you are right, but in case of battery drain, it is mostly due to the radio, maybe because the way it corresponds with the network/carrier.
i'm using 2.12.50.02.2. no probs here..
edit: for some odd reason I wasn't having any issue with the winmo rom but once i updated android to hyperdroid sense build it was bad.
now updated to the latest build

people ask this all the time
but really it depends where u live, in my experience i have horrible battery life with kb1 but it may not be the same with your case, u just have to try them to see which are the best jk6 and jk7 are usually better for battery life and they do actually have decent performance, im using ka7 and im happy with the battery life its great and i get go service with it

Awesome! Thank you
I have hit my limit but i will remember to hit thanks tomorrow
I'm using KB1 and I get both good signal and great battery life.
I try different combinations all the time. Sure it's a bit time consuming and I've had to Odin back a lot in the beginning because I had no idea of what I was doing but...Make sure you read and follow all the instructions lol. I love that the Vibrant is so customizable like this. I came from a Cliq. All you did was flash a zip and there you go.

[Q] ROM with best battery life?

Hi there. There seems to be a number of tweaked ROM's for the Aria and unfortunately, I'm not tech savvy enough to understand the different kernels. From your personal experience, which ROM gave good battery life on the Aria?
I'm currently running CM7.0.0 and usually gets a day with normal usage. I'm willing to drop down to froyo if it means more battery life. Any input would be awesome.
if you use setcpu just flash my kernel as it has lower cpu speeds and no need for a screen off profile

Can you flash the kernel on any ROM? Do you lose any data? SetCPU bottoms out at 246 for me right now, but I know I've seen others here at lower. I'm running FR008.

Just because it's gingerbread doesn't make it awesome. Still has its downsides. 2.2.2 and fr008 have been so refined its stupid. I get the best battery life out of those. Setcpu with 2.2.2 gives me a warm sensation.
Sent from my HTC Aria using XDA App
CM7's battery life, when the GPS libraries aren't forcing the CPU to 100%, is good. A day or so. Maybe more.
2.2.2 is a little over a day on average, and CM6.1.1 can go up to as much as two days. So CM6 is the winner with battery life. But it's Froyo.
I'm getting two days with moderate usage with FR008...

By 2.2.2 do you mean Gene Poole's hfr003b? Do I just flash that as a ROM or are there other kernel or settings things I need to flash? There seems to be a lot of zips on his post. Sorry for my noobness

Flashing the ROM is enough. It comes with a kernel that will let you overclock only while you're using SetCPU. If you don't use that app it will run like a stock kernel and will give you great battery life. That's my choice and I'm happy with it.
Cool. Thanks everyone.

Rom Virtuous Fusion Installed. Some issues...:-(

Hi,
I installed this morning this Rom on my MyTouch 4G. Everything was going good, until i got to my workplace and i realized that my T Mobile Signal Was Extremely weak, and i mean with and X on my signal Status. If i wanted some signal i would have to go out of the building. ( Something that never happens)
So, i would like to know if it is problem with this ROM, or if i have to "flash the radio" ( something that i dont know how to, to be honest) or what could i do.
I got so scared, that i tried to restore my Stock rom ( that i created it with Rom manager), but the thing is that now, all the apps that i had installed on the SD card, they dont show up ( they are not linked) AND the Signal Still is bad!!!!...
So, i dont know if i messed up the phone in anyway ( i did not do eanything extra while installing this new ROM) or what could it be
Anyone out there could help this guy?:-(....
Thanks!
I don't see how installing a ROM could suddenly cause your signal to plummet, especially when so many people are running that ROM without issues. In your case, I would upgrade to the latest radio since that may very well help your signal, and it's the one the dev of that ROM recommends anyway. See this thread for info on the radio flashing procedure and make sure you follow it exactly. If you don't have ADB set up yet, see this excellent thread. Most people highly recommend using ADB since it may prove very useful if you ever get into trouble in the future, but if you'd like alternative radio flashing instructions that avoid the use of ADB, I can provide those too.

lol I also noticed this on Virtuous Fusion, it was a battery hog on my phone Sense builds usually have a shorter battery life. the radio you flash will affect the battery life also. have you tried recalibrating your battery after a full charge?

The easiest way to calibrate you batter is with this app...very straight forward.
And yes, as I said in my previous post you "should" upgrade your radio. I used quotations because it isn't absolutely necessary, and you may very well have fine performance on the stock radio, but eViL does recommend the latest, which seems to work very well for most people.

both the stock rom and Virtuous Fusion are Sense builds, but the stock rom is a version of Sense called MySense. Virtuous has A LOT more stuff added onto the rom rather than stock MySense, thats why it uses a bit more battery life. as for the battery calibration, just download the app "Battery Calibration" by Nema and charge your battery until its full. once full, run the app and youre good to go. I wouldnt charge it again until the battery has completely drained as youll get a better reading. as far as the radios go, each radio works differently with everyone. just try them all out and see which one works best for you, comparing battery life/signal strength and coverage
Hum.... Im going to work on the radios, to see whats going on..
another thing that im feeling, is NOW when im upstairs, the phone disconnects itself from the WIFI ( soemthing that never happened to me before). Could it be because of the ROM?
BTW, im really loving this ROM. Its all useful and beautiful!!...
Hi guys,
Welll well, after 2 days on this ROM, all i can say, its been workign perfectly Fine.
I tried 2 apps to WIFI tether but look like they dont work, the only way i can do this, is thru the Hot spot that comes with the ROM, but i cant keep an eye on the Traffic. Any ideas?

You can easily view bandwidth usage on your computer.
If you're using windows, press ctrl+ alt +delete. Select start task manager (unless it already popped up). In windows task manager, click the tab labeled "Networking". Next, click view->select columns... Put a check next to bytes, bytes sent and bytes received. This will show you bandwidth total, uploaded and downloaded respectively in terms of bytes. 1024 bytes = 1 megabyte, 1024 mbytes = 1 gigabyte.
I'm sure other OSes (linux, osx) offer this simple tool as well.
Note: the data session its reset to 0 after restarts and wireless network connection. So, take a note of it before restarting or repairing the wireless connection.
