This was the original scenario:
When my phone is in standby, I get 42% of the time without signal.
I was using a 2.12 radio, and damn, half of the time people couldn't reach me or only after a while.
So here's the deal, if you have any trouble with getting signal,
just change your radio to 2.10.50.X
have a nice day
I currently use
RADIO_2105026

I'm running the latest hyperdroid, this is way to much, but I think it's RADIO-related, can this be possible?

I m facing the same issue as what you have described. No answer right now .
What radio are you running? Try 2.14, it can't hurt.
2.12, I already know the newest causes the same problem

sure, you should try a 2.10, the newer ones always seem to tend this way
okay: for al those who are in need of a proper radio, with 98% reception all of the time, use this one:
RADIO_2105026
I get only 1-2% without signal. maybe someone can cleanup this post and make it sticky, as it is I think, fairly important for ppl. to know they are almost half of the time out of range with a bad radio, for android a suggest a 2.10.50.X radio!
I think it has to do with your carrier, some Radio images work better with other carriers.
BTW, which app are you using to measure your signal strength?
I use battery indicator for measurement of % without signal. For signal strenght/dbm signal status bar, hope that helps you
I'd say it'll also have to do with the carrier. I know a handful of people with a 2.12 and have no reception problems, and likewise for 2.14. Users should definitely try out different radios, but I wouldn't going as far as saying 2.10 is the one and only.
Just to be an oddball around here, I'm on 2.14 right now and it has served me better than a 2.10

This thread is pointless, It is carrier dependant, why you should try several before starting threads about ones that don't work!
Some will give you better signal whilst giving quicker battery drain, others will be the opposite, others will give you a good balance, it's all down to trial and error, it's never the case of 'it doesn't work'
I'm running 2.14 and have no issue at all, full signal most of the time and after 3 charge cycles battery is great also, try a few radios for a few days each before coming to the conclusion they 'don't work'

<_< this thread is not pointless, and if it's carrier dependant, we could maybe make a sticky and ppl post results with there findings for carriers then.
All radio's work, but not all are even effective. And believe me, I tried like 50 radio's before.. 2.12 gave me great call quality but huge battery drain and signal drops, no radio is perfect, but carrier dependant, lol yes some carriers just suck, but I should have signal all the time, I'm on the two biggest networks of my country, providing coverage everywhere, and I tested those out, it really looks like the radio is more affecting it, ofc you will NEVER get the same results with any carrier, but when doing research, you will see that the radio affects your signal. Just try for your self in stead of telling me this thread is pointless. Some radios might be better for some networks, in that case you are right, but in case of battery drain, it is mostly due to the radio, maybe because the way it corresponds with the network/carrier.
i'm using 2.12.50.02.2. no probs here..
edit: for some odd reason I wasn't having any issue with the winmo rom but once i updated android to hyperdroid sense build it was bad.
now updated to the latest build

I hope somebody can help me with this. I have a T-Mobile Wing and I can't get a signal in my office. I have no office phone to use either, so its really annoying because I miss some important calls. Also other employees in my office have AT&T and Sprint and there phone work fine. I've even had Sprint just a few years ago. At first I wasn't able to get a signal and then suddenly my signal maxed out in the same are. I'm not going to be able to opt out of my contract either. So I was wondering if anybody knows of any tweaks that can boost your signal strength. I'm willing to try anything and I'm only a slight noob (I recently just flashed my rom, first time I tried I bricked my phone but I got it back up and the second time i worked like a charm). So if anybody knows of any hacks or anything like that, that could work I will thank you forever.
P.S. No those little stickers on the phone don't work.
you can try to flash different radio into your wing. In my experience, 3.18.9 has the best performance.
Really?! Okay a few questions. I'm slightly a noob so how would I go about doing that? What would I have to change in my rom? Do you have any links that could show me how to do that? And finally I have flashed my rom by I was just changing the pagepool settings, will this flash effect anything I have already changed?
Flashing the radio just like flashing a new rom, but it only change the radio and the other is still intact. You will have to hardSPL your phone and then find the radio.nbh file, and flash it. You will have to do some readings regard hardspl and flashing. I personally don't want to give further instructions since I don't want to be blamed if you brick your phone or something. The other members had written very good guides (which should be much better than mine) on flashing and other issues.
Radio ROM 03.21.90 has the best signal with extended battery life. My signal improved and my battery lasts way much longer! Believe me on this.

I agree with the battery life, but on signal strength, 3.18.9 is better on me. I actually tried them two as the same time and same place. I flashed one and then tried the other. In my classroom, 3.21.9 has nothing but 3.18.9 has a bar. My guess is that it also depends on your rom. I heard different roms have different results. Anyway, try some of them and you will know what's best for you
Hey guys
Does anyone know ehere I can get hold of the original Telstra Radio (ver 2.05.51.11), I have looked around xda but can't seem to find this exact one.
The reason I want this particular one is that I am having some battery drain issues and I want to flash back in order to make fault finding a bit easier.
Thanks in advance
nobody? really?
Do the mtty trick... better than flashing to stock. But if you insist:

Thanks for the Radio mate
BTW whats the mtty trick?
Not a trick rather a long drawn out process! See the ROM forum sticky if you want to give it a shot.
But I think I spoke too soon. You're having battery drain issues... I think just flashing different radios / ROMs should fix it until you find an optimal combo.
Not sure it is the Radio yet.
I have tried 3 different ones but bat drain is still what I would call excessive. (15 mins of browsing kills around 40 to 50 percent of the battery)
The drain is mainly while browsing, whether i am using WiFi or the gprs connection.
Thought I would do the radio first as it is the easiest to change and I have established it isn't the ROM as it has been the same on 3 different ones.
Holy crap, that is huge! Maybe you have a bad battery? Is it OK otherwise?
So I have seen countless complaints on battery and reception regarding the new radio. I personally haven't upgraded it, but seeing as I have seen so many complaints, I'd like to hear if anyone liked the new radio.
I'm not sure if it's the ROM, peoples' location, or what is causing the issues for some people, but so far I am getting an all-negative reaction which makes me not want to update it at all...
Any thoughts specifically regarding the new radio??
i live in ohio and the radio update has improved my signal...at work i would never get an 3g signal and after 8 hours would basically need to throw my phone on the charger...after the update i feeel like i got an extended batter i never leave 3g coverage while at my desk its great i think the main thing it does is attain the 3g better thus improving battery through a quality signal...i am interested to see if it does have someting to do with location as ive seen the mass negativity about this radio update...my opinion people get cold feet about the radio and subconciously start hating it
i flashed the .03 radio. everything seems the same same same
The new radio has GREATLY improved my battery life, but I really cant tell any difference in reception.

Kind of agree. I can't tell a difference in reception but I believe it has improved my battery.
My battery keeps a charge a lot longer. Also since I've been getting better reception
Im running thr new radio with damage's rom, battery seems wayyy better and signal as well..internet browsings faster too.not sure if thats cause of the new radio or rom.goood stufffff
I haven't really noticed any difference in battery life or signal, not better but not worse either.
Don't really notice any difference after flashing the new one.
+1 better reception and battery here...
phx, az
Didnt seem to kill the battery any faster, I dont think.
It didnt seem to improve my reception
it actually seemed to make my data slower. im still testing this.
I have nothing against it, but Ive had sprint for 10years in my area and after a few months I knew how many bars I had at certain locations.
well after the upgrade I seem to get LESS reception (bars) then before. I dont experience dropped calls or missed txts, etc. so I see no point to go back to the old one. doesnt bother me
as far as battery life I have a 1800mAh battery they still hasnt had but maybe half a dozen charges so i cant really give you any better of an idea.
My battery life is a little better. My reception is not any worse or better really. I see less "bars" but bars don't mean much. My db reading is -75 in my office, which is the same as with the old radio. I do notice my data rates went from about 1100-1200 down to about 600-800 down at best. Upload rates went from 700-800 to 500-600. So I notice slower data which is a bummer.
my battery life drastically improved. i haven't noticed data difference.
I upgraded the radio at the same time I upgraded to the newest Fresh Rom. Shortly after I loaded damage control.
At first I thought my reception was worse but then noticed the signal strength bars only had 4 instead of 6, which makes it look like less signal. But my internet seems noticably faster (could be the 2.1 Rom) and I'm not dropping calls and reception is clear on phone calls.
As to battery life; again hard to say with the new OS, bit its not any worse than before. Still have to charge every night under normal use and sooner with some extra Pandora action tossed in.
I'm averaging 2.5 - 3% battery per hour with the new radio, but I also upgraded to a 2.1 ROM at the same time.
With the 1.5 ROM I was running and the old radio I was averaging 4 - 4.5% per hour.
I can't definitively say if it was the ROM or the radio that made the difference though.
I'm running an Andida 2000mah battery too.
-Daryel
I haven't noticed a difference either way...I went back to stock for the heck of it and everything seems the same...
Meh, its good. I feel like I am getting better battery life. Not sure though. Give or take.
I live in an area that no carrier has great reception, so yeah.
hey guys thanks for all the feedback. i was wondering about this too and since im on this thread i guess i can ask about what .zip file i should use for my rom? or is it the same? im running damageless. thanks!
I say there needs to be an experiment... would the same "differences" come up if a "radio update" came out that only changed the #'s of the baseband version, but said it was better?
just a thought.
I hear some people say Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2 causes problems and to use Leo_RADIO_2.11.50.26** but then I see it a lot of peoples sigs they are all using 2.10.50.26 which I cant find a download link to.
Also I see on shubCRAFT something about a 1gb data.img and I have no idea what that is can anyone tell me?
Sorry if these are silly questions Im just really excited to get my Hd2 and want it to run Android perfect!
Thanks,
Ethan
EDIT: Oops I read "radio" as "rom", fixed my reply.
Radios, I don't think they're that important (as in, it doesn't really matter which one you have), but I just downloaded the new 2.14 which is Android friendly, they say it improves reception greatly. If it's true, then it probably is the best at the moment.
As for your other question about data.img, I would like to know too
i updated to 2.14.50.04 today and my reception didn't really get any better. i hoped it would because the reception in the area i live is very very poor. idoors i get 1-2 bars and nothing has changed appart from a higher battery drain. i was at about 5-6mA in standby now i can add around 2-4mA to it.
trying since an hour or something the new 2.15.xx radio, get about 3-5, sometimes 5-8 mA, i think its quite good
Can you give me a download link to 2.14 anyone?

Search for "HD2 radio rom thread"
Anyway. 2.14 radio works nicely. Getting 6mA standby with data on. Sync on adds 1-4 mA.

Exactly the same here w/ 2.12.50.02_2
The data.img is basically all the info uve fed android, like ur gmail account, any apps you install, messages, etc. The data.img is read from and written to, thus, everytime u reboot ur phone and go back to android, u don't start all over again. 1gb is larger than the original 512mb allowing u to install more apps. Other than that, I know nothing more about the data.img
I'm not pro so someone correct me if I'm wrong.
@ itsallsubliminal
No it's right
I just wanted to add that the data.img is like your internal storage in WM. It simulates the NAND for android. This is the problem with the battery drain issues, because this img is stored on your SD and the SD uses a little more battery than the internal memory. (maybe 1% per 2 hours in standby or something like that )
And I would recommend you the 2.14. radio, as it improved my signal quality. My data throughput is now about 5x higher than with the 2.12 radio and my standby is on the same level as before (3-9mA)

I think reception for us europeans won't get better in europe. Had the same experience minus battery drainage. That stayed about the same.

I'm European, more precisely from Switzerland. And my signal improved dramatically. Maybe it depends on your provider or the signal coverage?
hi! Where should I put the image file? I already have a fine tuned configuration of my Android OS. If I put the image now, will I have to start all over again? THNX
i have a TMOUS HD2, with big reception problems, it hardly gets a signal anywhere inside a building, i got Leo_Radio_2.14.50.04 radio, gigiline rom and nexus one port, maybe with android signal seems to be a little more stable, not stronger though. And battery life is like horrible, i think it's related with the reception problems (phones put in bad reception areas usually have bad battery life i noticed...). 35% in 14 hours of standby is too much consumption i think, isn't it?
Anyone knows how to solve this problem?
thx a lot!

Have you tried all of the different radios available for this device?
i will try more, but it looks unusual, it's not an early release the one i got, and i had the problem before!
tried a couple of other radios with no luck...
could the problem be in the rilphone.dll file? maybe i got a wrong one!
How do i understand which one to use, just in case?
having the same problems
having the same problems here and tried 2.10 and 2.12 and 2.15 radios and no luck at all
and tried windows and android roms
also no luck
my mobile is T-Mobile HD2
