Just FYI. Wandered into Radio Shack in C.A. today and the dudes offered $165 for my Evo 4D on trade. That's way better than Best Buy and better than Sprint. $35 total for the 3D, plus tax.
And these days it is not easy to get much more than that for a used OG on Craigslist or Ebay. There are a million used ones available, and the prices have fallen.
My OG was rooted and they did not notice or care.

New customers only? I only have $75 upgrade right now. That's a hell of a deal!
via EVO.
I think I'm gonna hold on to my evo.,. Its not like I'm gonna be doing Auto cad on a phone anytime soon. The 1ghz processor is more than enough for what it needs to do. And personally the whole 3d feature is just silly. 3d's been around since the beginning of man kind, but we act like its the newest and baddest fad ever!

The technology might be new, but the idea is very old. And yes T'vs have changed dramatically, but 3d is pretty much the same. You still need those uncomfy 3d glasses to watch a movie. Might I add I went to see transformers and 3d, and I wonder why these 3d glass makers haven't looked into making them fit around people with glasses?

On a side note, I saw Transformers in 3d yesterday as well. Waste of money IMHO, barely any 3 effects till the end of the movie.

I agree, I spent $68 on tickets for me, my wife, and 2 kids to see TF3 in "IMAX 3D". After the first few scenes the 3D broke so my left eye looked like it was shaded very dark for 15mins. They got that fixed but I certainly didn't experience any "stunning 3D effects".
I did get quite a headache before it was over. I can't say it was the 3D for sure but reading online I'm not the first to complain about this with IMAX 3D.
I wish they would sell the EVO 4G+ here, that's a nice device without the 3D stuff.
Hmmm ok outside the box here, but what about getting the shell of the Evo + and moving the internals of the 4g over to the Evo+.....I know things probably wouldn't line up right but worth a shot.

I tried 3D over the weekend and I don't want it. Only cool thing is 3D games, rest of the phone is same as mine (just cost more) since i have Kings 3D rom.
Actually, mine is even better since is rooted
Only phone that can make me change my mind is Samsung Galaxy S2
I don't care about 3d. I got it because it's more narrow than the original, and therefore easier to hold and use one handed. Also the screen is higher contrast and It's overall faster. So far, so good.

QFT.
But a reminder never hurts.
How can they say that iPhone and Evo are tied in Multimedia and Web Browsing...
More screen real estate, youtube HQ, Flash, HDMI, etc, etc...
CNET gives us the legitimacy we never had before, as most of us were Hero owners.
They were even generous with the iPhone IMO. The perfect score for multimedia, for instance, is not deserved on a closed system.

I can download free music without having to jailbreak on my evo hahaha
Look at this:
http://reviews.cnet.com/2722-6452_7-689.html
In that comparison, the same people slammed the EVO on call quality\general performance, giving it the same scores they gave the iPhone 4. In this case, they say the EVO's battery life is just as much of an issue as the iPhone4's antenna issue, as that is the reason they gave it low scores.
If they stayed consistent, the iPhone 4 would have won. I think they wanted the EVO to beat the iPhone 4. In my mind, it does. But I think CNET might be confused...

That review is written before the latest OTA, the prize fight is after. For a lot of people the OTA solved the battery issues. Me I was able to figure out which programs kept my evo awake before the OTA. The OTA just helped even more.
That other comparison was probably done before the radio updates and all of the various ota pushes that sprint had.

Unless you mean directly to the phone, any iDevice can do that too. Dl on computer, drag to iTunes, sync.
After having the Evo for a bit, I don't think I will ever be able to use anything with a screen less than 4 inches. I finally got a chance to check out the iPhone 4 the other day and it seemed TINY. I know the overall device is smaller, but I don't remember my 3G screen seeming that small. Same story with the Hero if you play around with one after using the Evo for a while.

Holy crap yes. I gave my old iPhone 3G to my mum, and had to load some driving directions in it yesterday. Thanks to the giant rubber case on it, it felt like I was holding a small brick that had a complimentary LCD on it that was amazingly small.
4.3" LCD is the new way to go. Ya got that, manufacturers? EVO-size is the future, not Aria-size!
Oh how I love sending these videos to iFanBoy friends. :]
I agree with the sentiments about screen size. I gave my mom my old Hero and had to help her get Google Navigation to work. I was sitting there thinking how did I ever use this?! It's so small I can't believe I actually used this thing to navigate in the car!
And after playing around with my cousin's iPhone 4, as sharp as it is, it's just too small (and you really cant see a difference in sharpness at normal viewing length anyway). And yes, the iPhone 4 screen actually is a little bit smaller than the 3GS.

Came from a Droid 1 to the Epic today. I liked my droid, but the verizon bill was the biggest ripoff on the face of earth. Lately I've been hearing good things about Sprint, and I also wanted the evo... after some reviewing today, I decided that Epic was the better choice for me because of keyboard (I sometimes use the keyboard, maybe not enough to justify tho) better performance, and better battery life. I was aware it didn't come with 2.2...
Well now that I'm playing around with this thing, I miss all the features of the 2.2! BT voice dial, JIT, flash, 2.2 specific apps... I miss all of them!
It's very upsetting to know that samsung will probably not release the 2.2 for these phones until 2.3 is almost released on the Nexus One and all =/
also, I hear everyone praising the AMOLED screen, but I see all these grainy dots on it, it's brigther, but looks more pixalated, it's hard to tell, it's easy to tell on white.
Has anyone done the switch to EVO or to Epic from the EVO? what are your thoughts? it's def snappier compared to my gf's evo running 2.2... and the screen size diff isn't that big

I had a evo. I had it oc to 1.11ghz and running cynagon 6 rc1. I switched to the epic and never looked back. My epic when stock is almost as good as my evo in the state it was. My epic is now oc to 1.2ghz and I'm running the ee rom. Its even close to my evo. Once we get cynagon or 2.2 the epic will blow the evo out the water.

I have to be honest here. I think some people talk about Froyo like it is this amazing leap forward in technology and it is like a night and day difference from 2.1 out there.
I have an Epic 4G and love the thing! I had a chance to play with a friend's G2 last weekend and, when looking at the 2.2 froyo Android, all I could think of was "Really? Seriously? This is making people decide NOT to get an Epic 4G? Are you fricken kidding me?"
First off, Froyo should be out on the Epic within a month of this posting. Second, the things you are talking about are almost non-issues! You can't voice dial over blue tooth? Wow...I voice dial all the time by holding the phone for all of about 15 seconds to tell it "dial 1-800-dont-be-lame" and then drop it on the seat as it runs the call over BT. Flash...installed already and you don't need root to do it. JIT? Really? 2.2 specific apps? Like what?
Don't take this wrong, and it is NOT meant to be an insult (though it might sound like one a bit) but you almost sound like those zealots who argue that the book is ALWAYS better than the movie even if the movie kicks butt.
The Epic is an awesome movie...

How do u have flash? Skyfire is not real flash if that's what ur referring to. Also in cali u can get a ticket if u voice dial the way u mentioned above. 2.2 has many advantages over 2.1 no need to argue that 2.2 is not a big deal. That being said the epic will get it soon, and even without 2.2 it is a beast. However if the op is used to 2.2 apps and some of the feautures I understand his concern, no need to start calling the op nmes because his opinion of the phone does not agree with urs.

The difference between eclair and froyo are night and day. There is so much more you can do with froyo then you can with eclair and 3yr performance gain is well worth it. Once the epic gets froyo it will put the rest to shame. I had both the epic and evo on launch day. The epic out the box put the evo to shame. The only reason the evo is a tad bit better is cause of froyo.

Guys, don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the phone and doubt I'll be going to the evo within my 30 days, but from what i've been reading the november date is for the european galaxy phones? (haven't done enough research on that yet, just the thread here about it)
that being said, unless you had a 2.2 and used it regularly, you wouldn't know I guess ExploreMN. one nice feature was the auto update and update all feature on the 2.2. the app2sd is a nice feature too. believe it or not, the V8 JIT browser is faster, you can run a sun spider test and see the dif in numbers if you want. If it comes out in a month, I could care less really. I might not even bother rooting then, since i'll have to wait for a rooted 2.2 etc etc...
as far as the grainy dots go, if you can compare it next to another phone like droid, evo, iphone (any other smart phone) and look at the white on the super amoled, you can see what I'm talking about. honestly my eyes are already getting used to it though. I dunno, it's hard to tell, but it's there if you look. colors are def more vibrant though, grainy dots or not... lol
I'm really just disappointed about the 2.2 issue, and I hope it does come out november like engadget said.
oh, also, the speaker volume (phone ring and notifications) seems really low on this thing, I made sure it was on high... anyone else have anything to say about that?
I have the black tie thing, so no deductable here either

I'm expecting an iPad2 for work sometime next week. I design accessories for it, so having a new one would certainly help in the design of those accessories
I watched the videos of the ipad 2, galaxy tab 10.1, and the xoom. I prefer android, so I will get that out of the way first. Watching ui transitions and video of the built in back camera, I was surprised to see that the ipad seemed smoother. I was looking for dropped frames and jerky movement from both video and ui.
I recently opened a netflix account and I am disappointed that there is nothing for android yet. I don't think that would be the only reason I might get a tablet but watching streaming or local movies and videos would definitely be things I would want to do.
I don't have the money to blow on those kind of toys right now, but it doesn't hurt to dream. Besides, the upcoming summer super phones are what I will be spending my money on. I miss the beautiful display from the epic. How about an super amoled tablet screen? Ohh ahh! Even though the colors aren't true like in real life, my eyes love that screen candy.

Sorry. Posted it from my phone, so, you know, search doesn't work worth ****.
Didn't see it in the top 20 topics, so posted away.

new one is thinner but taller...
i would rather the face look smaller..same screen size...
thicker but shorter.

no.. not the way the measurements say..
new evo is same width and 4.3" screen...
so.. looks like there will be more bezel, because it is taller... more face space.
someone know how to figure out if a 4.5 inch screen would fit in those dimensions? guess it would be Pythagoreans theorem right? i tried to but it is hurting my brain

I highly doubt it's going to be a 4.5 inch screen, and I hope it isn't. 4.3 is perfect.

lots of confirmed info.. on evo 3d... insider !!!
Well it's hard to believe that it's almost another year but here we are. Seems like yesterday I was working the wee hours of the night to put the fit and finishing touches on the wimax radio/making sure qik would play nice with wimax. Then the gold copying of 4G enabled hotspot during the eleventh hour before sending off to Sprint (Good Times). I felt it was time to chime in again and answer some of the pressing questions about EVO 3d. I would like to first congratulate everyone that has been so critical to EVO’s success in providing information/tips/tricks etc on the Android Forums EVO 4G threads. I know my company has been reading that thread like a religious book since EVO was referred to a Supersonic. Everything that was EVO and is EVO today is being put into what you the fans want in your EVO of tomorrow. Your knowledge and your talent inspired us to create the best EVO (We hope) ever.
Since I am a fan of the site, I want to share with you information that hasn't been released yet and information that I've been given the green light to release to the thread.
Start off by saying it is a "HTC EVO 3D and 4G" and not "LG" Yes gingerbread and something has not been mentioned Sense UI 2.0 Finally when your EVO is propped up on It's kickstand it will automatically go into landscape on all window screens.
The one thing that you guys talked about was full hdmi out. I admit we got robbed on that one. The price you pay for being first. I didn’t have anything to do with that one, but I would admit to be a bit impressed a phone was able to play a movie on a HDTV a year ago. “Orrebmas” your efforts did ping our radar. I am sure you will find nothing but fortunes on the android market with that fine software. Full HDMI will no longer be an issue. We ran it, tested it, on HDTV’s and 3DHDTV’s. Games, google, pictures, 3DPOV, and yes 3d movies all look awesome right out of the box.
Answer one of the more recent questions yes the new EVO will have a kickstand. I guess that was answered up above, but the new kickstand will be beefier and contoured to the back side of the case. The curved kickstand will allow the EVO to stand better at attention if you will. HTC logo will be on the back like the original EVO, but EVO 3D will be lithographed on the kickstand metal as well. Smart move cause with your protective cover on and the phone face down. Nobody could tell what phone it was. Now they will.
I know there was some flak on the recent GLBenchmarks and we caught hell for it around here as well. I just wanted to let you know that fit and finish on that has been polished out. Memory allocation was only single set data stream and we have now been able to utilize duel data stream with a bump in memory clock speeds. I guess you could use the analogy of SDRAM compared to DDRAM.
Scorpion chip set is very OC friendly; I can’t say what we were able to overclock the cpu’s to. Please no question on that one. I can say that we were able to almost double our GLbench scores with just the memory fix though.
The larger battery is the real. I can’t say what the final battery size is though. I can say from 8am to 6pm under stress test no need to plug in.
HTC EVO 3D does have two processors, which everyone here has seen on GLBenchmark site (Who Knew!) Important thing to mention is they take up less real estate then a single snapdragon processor die..Clue on power consumption.
I guess the last one that guys might like to know is that the front facing camera, is not 1.3mp. The one we have in house is 3mp. The back ones can’t be discussed right now, but they do have some cool tricks other than stereoscopic.
I always felt that it would be a cold day in you know what before I turn my EVO over specially after all the customization, ROMS, Tweaking, Benchmarking, and showing my 4.3in screen size to Apples boy like screen size. Update! All those tweaks, they will work on the new EVO with very little effort. Devs can rejoice.
Lastly, the battery form factor is interchangeable, but you are not going to need to though.
I’ll stop in from time to time. I have no clue on release date. I have to admit that one does make me laugh. I remember the original EVO release date was publicly announced and we still had gold work left. It was unlimited OT for almost a month straight. I have to say we did understand what the fans wanted and the time line they wanted it in, but it was/is a product we believed in. I think most can agree we crammed in a good amount fun factor considering it was a year ago. EVO still is one of the finest phones in the market, heck in the world for that matter. I know the same effort is going to be expected by all companies involved this time around too. Please keep putting up your wish list of items, doesn’t mean it’s going to happen, but doesn’t mean we can’t squeeze it in (Somehow) Enjoy the show.
Cheers,
BSOD(>-_0<)

The fact that anyone is still considering a Samsung Phone after the update mess reinforces my theory that people love to be screwed over by companies.
And the Osama is a good news bad thing.
On one hand he's dead, on the other it doesn't change anything for anyone and he will be seen as a martyr by his supporters.

Ya they can speak for themselves. I'm never getting another samsung phone again.
They have awesome hardware, but the software and cust support blows. And stupid things that should be perfected like registering every button on a keyboard or working led lights or a kickstand, shouldn't be an issue on 500 dollar phone.

If they dont screw us over with variants samsungs support wont suck as much

@the Samsung part, I honestly can't really decide. The GSII is just nice, in my opinion, and I know about the update mayhem but the fact that we've gotten a leak for Gingerbread this quickly gives me a bit hope for the moment.
The Evo 3D is a great phone, and honestly the only reason I didn't choose it was because I like the new TW4.0. Specs wise, Evo 3D wins hands down. But just remember, it's all opinion.
@Osama, yeah, his supporters could be a problem, but without a leader still helps. I mean, after Hitler's suicide (even though it was around the same time as the war ended), his supporters seemed to fade. I don't know; we can only hope for the best and that the death was fortunate.

Samsung hasn't done much to prove that they will be able to put enough pressure on Carriers to test updates to get them to users in a timely manner.
Hitler's suicide was a completely different scenario, a country/regime cannot function without some sort of leader, terrorist/guerilla groups can simply fracture and are largely self-sufficient cells.
Also Hitler's supporters didn't so much fade as flee to South America and try to start a fourth reich, just sayin'.

Okay well maybe a tie.
GSII has a better resolution and thinness, but the evo 3D DOES have 3D, and I've seen how well that works xD.
Then again...the evo 3d has only 8 GB storage on the sd card. Dammit, I gotta word these things better. ._.
Otherwise, same similar 1.2GHz dual-core proccessor, 8 MP camera, etc

Evo 3D has a higher resolution.
960 x 540 vs 800 x 480.
Performance wise the Evo 3D pulls ahead in some tests while the Galaxy S pulls ahead in some, its mostly a toss up. The difference is nowhere near 1st gen snapdragon vs hummingbird.
I'm pretty sure S2 will kick harder, but Evo's 3D features + higher res screen + the fact that 1st Evo had one of the greatest dev-communities makes me think I will go HTC next time.. =O

I want to know the same thing....higher res crappy display, a chip set that hasn't shown us anything in real world tests, the whole 3D gimmick deal, and will be locked down in some way or another. The sgs2 is completely unlocked and is all straightforward non-gimmicky no frills hardware.
I still doubt I'll own either one thanks to sprints new upgrade rules. If I had to choose one of these awesome phones it would likely be the sgs2, for raw power and simplicity. Oh and the S-amoled+ display, that has 50% more subpixels which is going to make resolution look way higher......read the review its all there.
GSII. The sAMOLED+ display is just too much to pass up. Going back to a lcd screen would be tough. For me at least... plus I love the whole ultra slim design. I am personally voting for a keyboardless sprint variant.
if the GSII comes with a KB. I just can't get rid of the KB>
If the GSII isn't altered to much by U.S carriers I'll have to go with Sammy but if Sprint plays around with the original design it's the Evo 3D.

I'll be grabbing myself an HTC Evo 3D whenever an upgrade becomes available. I'll just use my 16 GB sdcard on my current Epic when I make the switch. I'm also a HTC sense fan, I started out with it when I made my entrance into Android.
