Wish I would have seen this after buying a Fascinate off Craigslist earlier this year that had a bad ESN.

I flashed my fassy to cricket and it works like a charm. It would be awesome to have it on straight talk too

F*ck sprint! :/

Okay so apparently my number is ineligible for Sprint Google Voice Integration due to my number being ported over from at&t back in august when i switched from my iPhone 4 to the Epic. WTF?! Why would that even matter?! I get really poor service at my house due to me living in a very hilly area so this results in me not getting texts and calls at times. Text messages are delayed most of the time I am at home and at times when i am in a poor coverage area. I was looking forward to this integration cause I would be getting all my texts thru GV and wouldnt have to worry about this. But now that isnt happening idk what to do
That's bull. You should call customer service and elevate to the supervisor if they don't help
If you're rooted you can download an app called Roam Control which will allow you to manually switch over to Verizon's towers. In fact I'm using it at my mom's house right now. Great app.

+1 on Roam Control..
All you do is boot it first time with an ok 3g signal, it asks you to select mfg (sammy) then it just has 3 buttons: Automatic ( like normal ) Home Only, and Roam only... works AWESOME. Yeah call about that # issue though... probly just got a 'special' sprint employee... also, you can tell them about your reception and ask for an airrave, it uses your home internet and acts as a 3g tower... kinda lame to piggyback you internet, but to get service it works. They will try to make you buy the device and pay a monthly, tell them you read everywhere that they give them away for free if you are in a crap coverage area. Only (other) catch is that sprint thinks it makes sense to treat the airrave as another phone on your line, so you need the credit to add another 'line' to your account, even if the prorate the charge. Good luck!
Oh, and SMS and MMS have been having issues... check the general section for more threads...
Its real simple. First time you open it go to Options tab and select it to work for the Epic and check the box that says Close After Selection. Then go back to the Main tab.If you want to be on Verizon click the Roam button and to go back on Sprint click the Home option.
Brilliant! I can actually get service in my basement now!
Umm, where/who is telling you that your number isn't ok for GV? Is it on google's voice site when you try and port it? If so, that has nothing to do with Sprint.
Or...you can talk with Sprint and have them send you an ARAIVE.

why they hating on those who switched over from other carriers? seriously the numbers are now sprint's own it doesn't make sense to me why it somehow wouldn't work
There is a lock-in period for ported numbers, I can't remember how long it is, because it varies from country to country.

I have been with sprint since august 31st when the Epic first launched so idk why I would still have to wait. Please report back when the rep clarifies whats going on
I don't understand what is so important about integrating the number. I tried it and think it's not for me. I'm guessing by reading the posts that you want to use your sprint number as your google voice number? What is the important features you want from it? I personally thought that it wasn't much different from having google voice app, gv number and conditional call forwarding.
Well to answer my question and maybe the OP. I just got off the phone with Sprint, and their answer was simple; because of how the way my account is set up, I receive a discount via my work, this prevents me from integration.

[How To]Change Your PRL!! Faster Data! (video tutorial)

EDIT: Read the second post for more info/alternate hybrid PRL/how to revert back to stock! I know it's a read but it should answer any questions you have!
This is a video tutorial I threw together on how to change your PRL. There has been some confusion as to how to change the PRL/some people having trouble doing it. I hope this helps!
WARNING!! Use this at your own risk! People have had their accounts terminated by using too much roaming data.
That being said, I've used this have for a few months now, and I haven't had any trouble, but others have.
This hack loads a new PRL onto your phone. It tells your phone to use roaming data instead of Sprint. Normally you only roam on 1x, but this makes you roam on Verizon's 3g all the time. In my area it is over 10x as fast as sprint. In my house (with 2 bars) I get 1.3 mb/s average download, and when I have any more bars I get well over 2 mb/s consistently. This is compared to dial-up like speeds on Sprint...
Let's get started, shall we?
---------------------------------------------
Links for the downloads are below!
Watch it through and follow the directions. This will work on most ROMs, One I know it will work on is Codename Android 1.4. Here are the directions in writing:
1. Get your MSL number. Do this by getting an app from the market called terminal emulator. type in:
su (hit enter)
getprop ril.MSL (caps sensitive, then hit enter)
your MSL will be there. It will be a 6 digit code. Write this down for later!
You can also call Sprint and if you ask nicely they may give it to you!
2. Install drivers for your device on your computer. Look up a Youtube tutorial on how to do this. It was the hardest part for me.
3. Download the file "00001.prl" and QPST. Links to both are below. On your computer, extract the QPST file, open it up, and double click on setup. Go through the installation process.
4. Go back to the phone and open up the dialer. Enter this: *#*#8778#*#*
5. On the menue that pops up there will be a secton labeled "USB". Change it from PDA to "Modem"
6. Back to the computer. Hit the start menu and open up device manager. Double click on "ports" and you should see your devide there. at the end it will look like this: (COM#). Write down the number at the end of the COM.
7. Hit the start and search for QPST and open it. At the bottom corner click on new device, and when it asks for the port enter COM# (using the number you found in the last step), and hit ok.
8. Now go to "start clients" and hit "SERVICE PROGRAMMING". It will ask what port you will be modifying, just click your device and hit ok.
9. there will be these tabs with CDMA, CDMA-2, ESN, etc. Click on the one that said "Roam". In the lower box hit browse, and find the 00001.prl file. hit ok.
10. Finally, hit "write to phone". The phone should reboot, and you're done!
11. I forgot to add this in the video. Once it boots up, go back to the dialer and enter the *#*#8778#*#* code again. Change it back from modem to PDA and you are done!

Click to collapse
Here are the files:
00001.prl: http://www.box.com/s/esb2ot5z8avjymqspxec
QPST: http://www.x-drivers.com/catalog/flash/mobile_phones/companies/qualcomm/models/qpst/12051.html
Post your results! How are your speeds before and after? Use the speedtest.net app to test. And don't forget to hit the thanks button!
So due to the rumors circling, I decided to clear them up here.
Read this before posting!
These are the drivers I use with my Nexus s 4g:
http://nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-hacks/how-to-install-nexus-s-windows-usb-drivers/
The PRL I included in the first post will make your phone work on VERIZON! It shows up on your plan as roaming data. If you use the 00001 prl then you DO NOT have to make your phone force roam or anything of the sort. It just works on Verizon, and your phone will NOT show that it is roaming, yet it is. Got it?
When you flash a new ROM, the PRL isn't touched. So you don't have to redo this if you flash a new ROM. Also, if your ROM doesn't do anything with the dialer code, then make a nandroid of it, flash a new ROM (I know for a fact that CM9 V3 and codename android 1.4 work), do the hack, then restore your nandroid. It's a little round-about, but it works!
How to use BOTH networks:
======================================
Now you can use a hybrid PRL. These have you on Sprint and they allow you to use the Verizon 3g if you force roam. I used this on my EVO 4g, but I haven't had great luck with it on my Nexus s 4g. Others have. Try it out if you want, here is a hybrid PRL (11114):
http://www.box.com/s/yrml7pzfgjc1od8hbp2j
You apply it the same way as the 00001 PRL.
Once it is installed, you will still be on Sprint's network. If you want to make your phone work on Verizon, then you have to make your phone force roam. You can do that with this app: roamctrl.com
Now you can switch between using Sprint and Verizon 3g!
========================================
Reverting back to stock
If you want to go back to the stock PRL, you have 2 choices. Both of which are pretty easy.
The first would be to go an official Sprint ROM, go to settings>software upgrade>update PRL or settings>about phone>update PRL.
If you are on a ROM where you can't do that, then you can just put the stock PRL on your phone using the same method that you used to put a custom one on.
As of this post, this is the latest sprint PRL:
http://www.box.com/s/fc67ca1qfx7nymqnfozy
Download it and use QPST to put it on your phone. Easy as pie
Finally some info on Roaming on Sprint:
Now your plan includes "unlimited roaming data". Sprint, however, says in the fine print that if you go over 300mb you can get into trouble. I have used this hack for 4 months using 1-1.5 gb of data. Never had a problem. I only know one guy first hand who has ever gotten kicked off their plan from this. So know it is a possibility, but unlikely. And they send you a warning letter before they kick you off. If you get the letter just revert back to the stock one!
If there is anything else I should add here let me know!
Interesting. Will this give me over charges for roaming then?

I did use the 00001.prl on the EVO. I ended up using the 11115 on my EVO as well. It worked ok on that phone, but I wasn't getting data as fast as the 00001. And I couldn't get the 11115 to work on my Nexus.
Warning!!! Do NOT do this hack constantly! I personally have a friends who did this on his Evo for about a month straight and Sprint sent him a letter and ended his contract with no fees. His service was terminated within 2 weeks of receiving the letter from Sprint.
Edit: yes, he had unlimited roaming on HIS plan as well. So there's little truth behind Sprint's claims.

There are whole threads on this over in the EVO 4g forum. OF the many who use this hack only 3 or so have had this happen. And they weren't the heaviest users. If you get the letter then just undo the hack and you're fine!

Sounds like a win win to me! Use Verizon speeds while I'm under contract and then IF Sprint terminates my contract I'm free and clear to take my NS4G to boost or go get the (Insert latest new device) as a new customer with no ETF's???!!! YES PLEASE
On a side note, would this have any effect of 4G? I ask because I live in a no 4G area on Sprints network but Verizon has 4G in my area. Just curious if it would give me 4G as well. I have no idea how 4G networks work as I haven't ever used it.

A lot of people use the hack to get out of the contract. They use crazy amounts of data to get noticed. Funny thing is, most of them haven't gotten "the letter" yet. It seems almost random.
And this wouldn't give you Verizon 4g. Totally different radios.

ditch verizon for nexus with straight talk?

Im thinking about ditching Verizon and paying the $350 bucks! but i can probably make that back from selling my S3. But what are your guys thoughts about getting a nexus 4 with straight talk? has anyone used Straight Talk and is it really worth it or is it one of those deals that are either "too good to be true" or "you get what you pay for"? cause just buy switching even if i dont sell my s3 ill still be saving $500 a year. Also whats the speed difference between hspa+ and 4g lte?

The Galaxy Nexus was my first GSM phone, & I was with Sprint for over 10 years (my first cellphone was a Motorola Timeport).
I ported my number to Straight Talk, & it was simple*. My number was ported in about 24 hours, but it took about 48 hours to be 100% complete. During the process, I received a text message from at&t (I ordered an at&t compatible SIM card). I could make calls, but not receive any, & my friends couldn't receive the texts I sent. But after the second day, everything was ok. The phone showed 'no signal', for the first few hours (I started to think that my phone or SIM was defective).
Porting your number to Straight Talk effectively activates your SIM card with your old number. Just make sure you set your APN :Settings > Wireless & Networks > More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names (I left the "Proxy" empty)
*I was scared that I might lose my Sprint number to Straight Talk, so I ported it to Google Voice. Then I ported a custom number from another Google Voice account to Straight Talk.

1. I'm not sure, you'll have to ask customer service. But I read somewhere that they'll give you a day or two to add time to your account. They'll send you text reminders two weeks before your service ends).
2. This seems odd, you should just ask Verizon if they can port a number out from a pre-paid carrier (or just port to google voice).
I had one problem with Straight Talk: I couldn't see my service end date on their website, or add time. I called customer service and they deactivated & reactivated my account, fixing the issue. The call was pretty painless.
Hey OP. Take a look at this thread from the Galaxy Nexus forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1455014

[Q] Bypassing Activation on VZW G2

I am trying to use this on straight talk, as I received this as a warranty replacement at a vzw store and have both a vzw line and a straight talk line. I was hoping to bypass the activation since my vzw sim card doesn't work in this phone, and they vzw customer service has been giving me a hell of a time trying to activate this phone.
I saw on a different site that one could hold the volume keys and press the back button, but that has not worked. I would like to test to see if this phone does better on straight talk than my other phone, since it has the HSPA+ bands for AT$T.
Thanks!
Turn the device on, on the first screen, in sequence:
Volume Up
Volume Down
"Back"
"Home"
and it will skip the activation screen.

Yes because of the LTE VZW uses LTE on the C block which means they have to leave the phone unlocked on GSM/HSPA+ but you won't get ATT LTE it is on another seperate band.

Sounds like the problem is one in the same because if you aren't on 4G (or wifi) you can't simultaneously talk or text and use data.
Do you know if other phones in your area get 4g? If so, try roobooting/ re inserting your Sim card. You could also try to change your network from "global" to "LTE/CDMA".
My RAZR had this problem all the time and usually a reboot helped. Or 4g could be out (was out for a week in my town).
Did the geniuses at Verizon give you a new SIM card with your S5 our use your old one? When I got muy S5 they tried to use my old one and it had all sorts of problems, the next day I went back and a guy who knew what he was doing asked the very question I opened up with and I told him the reused my old one, and here told me the came with a new one for a reason! He switched it out, all little bugs gone, worked great until the camera gave out, but that is a different issue!
Thank you all for the replies. costco rep advised me to call tech support so I'm giving that a try before taking back in for 2nd return (first return for defective bluetooth)
They originally had me use my Sim card and took mine out the phone that it came with. Then the NFc didn't work because of sim. So i go there and get a sim they pulled out of another s5 like they did mine and told me to call Verizon to activate it.
Thing is. 4g was working fine on that phone. Bluetooth was the problem and now on this device the 4g. I think it's the 4G hardware...

Right.. Hardware related.
but yes.. you can only use data while on the phone if your phone has 4g or on wifi since 3g uses the same signal as your calls do so fix the 4g and you should b good to go
