Okay so apparently my number is ineligible for Sprint Google Voice Integration due to my number being ported over from at&t back in august when i switched from my iPhone 4 to the Epic. WTF?! Why would that even matter?! I get really poor service at my house due to me living in a very hilly area so this results in me not getting texts and calls at times. Text messages are delayed most of the time I am at home and at times when i am in a poor coverage area. I was looking forward to this integration cause I would be getting all my texts thru GV and wouldnt have to worry about this. But now that isnt happening idk what to do
That's bull. You should call customer service and elevate to the supervisor if they don't help
If you're rooted you can download an app called Roam Control which will allow you to manually switch over to Verizon's towers. In fact I'm using it at my mom's house right now. Great app.

+1 on Roam Control..
All you do is boot it first time with an ok 3g signal, it asks you to select mfg (sammy) then it just has 3 buttons: Automatic ( like normal ) Home Only, and Roam only... works AWESOME. Yeah call about that # issue though... probly just got a 'special' sprint employee... also, you can tell them about your reception and ask for an airrave, it uses your home internet and acts as a 3g tower... kinda lame to piggyback you internet, but to get service it works. They will try to make you buy the device and pay a monthly, tell them you read everywhere that they give them away for free if you are in a crap coverage area. Only (other) catch is that sprint thinks it makes sense to treat the airrave as another phone on your line, so you need the credit to add another 'line' to your account, even if the prorate the charge. Good luck!
Oh, and SMS and MMS have been having issues... check the general section for more threads...
Its real simple. First time you open it go to Options tab and select it to work for the Epic and check the box that says Close After Selection. Then go back to the Main tab.If you want to be on Verizon click the Roam button and to go back on Sprint click the Home option.
Brilliant! I can actually get service in my basement now!
Umm, where/who is telling you that your number isn't ok for GV? Is it on google's voice site when you try and port it? If so, that has nothing to do with Sprint.
Or...you can talk with Sprint and have them send you an ARAIVE.

There is a lock-in period for ported numbers, I can't remember how long it is, because it varies from country to country.

I have been with sprint since august 31st when the Epic first launched so idk why I would still have to wait. Please report back when the rep clarifies whats going on
I don't understand what is so important about integrating the number. I tried it and think it's not for me. I'm guessing by reading the posts that you want to use your sprint number as your google voice number? What is the important features you want from it? I personally thought that it wasn't much different from having google voice app, gv number and conditional call forwarding.
Well to answer my question and maybe the OP. I just got off the phone with Sprint, and their answer was simple; because of how the way my account is set up, I receive a discount via my work, this prevents me from integration.

I love my Epic. Just switched from Verizon and have found I roam a lot on verizon. Which is fine, but when I'm home it's half a bar or sometimes no bars at all but still sprint. Time without a signal right now is 97%. This is draining my battery and causing me to drop calls. Is there a setting to prefer use of strongest tower regardless if it's roaming? If I roam to Verizon it's Full bars.
Thanks,
See if you can get an airwave.
why would you switch to verizon when it has no 4g?
@rawsoup. So 4G does exsist?? Not available here. I was curious if there was an app to use strongest tower regardless if it's roaming. Wherever I go it's always half a bar with sprint. So calls will connect but then they drop. I guess I'll just get an airwave for my house, work and the grocery store.

hmmm. thats funny what area (not specific address, i'm not a stalker) do you live in?
I have to agree with OP on this...the ability to flop over to roaming would be awesome. It's amazing..this same post has shown up for a ton of different phones throughout the years and the first response is always "why?".
I live in Queens in a basement apartment, 15 minutes from Manhattan. If I go outside my building, I get 2-4 bars service. Depending on where I leave my phone in my house, I get 0-1 bars, 1 if I'm really, really lucky and have been a good boy all year.
Currently, without paying stupid amounts of money for an airave (I don't even make that many phone calls, just need to be available for work), I have to turn the phone radio off, load up sipdroid to use with my gizmo5 account, and rely on google voice completely. I don't get texts, but since I have GV I get those texts and that suffices for now...but it's a lot of work to simply be able to be reached.
Verizon has 5 bars in my apartment. I shouldn't have to pay sprint whatever ridiculous amount they're asking for the airave hardware and the service when sprint already has roaming deals with verizon, and I pay for these roaming contracts in my monthly plan. I should be able to switch over to roam in my house for the off chance that I do get a phone call, and so that my battery isn't drained completely by two hours of trying to aquire sprint's signal.
The Palm Pre had a roam only hack, and it was beautifly done. Can someone get the ball rolling for an android app? I know there have been three billion posts in relation to this feature on android...but it would be really, really helpful.
I agree but airwaves hve been mostly free for people calling in needing help with ****ty service inside. Especially if you can be nice but still be fcirm with pleading your case.
Now sometmes new accounts need to wait 90 days for new free hardware to establish payment history and if you don't pay your bill or in general are a pain in the balls don't expect them to help you.
However many people get them without the monthly fee and free hardware.

This loser stole my app from the market and is trying to sell it. No one wants you here. Plus, quit spreading bad information, it doesn't work for *all* android phones...take the Droid X for example.
Wow. You people need to stop wondering why and just answer the question. Clearly OP doesnt have any type of good signal.
I live in the bronx in a basement apartment and i get 2 bars if im lucky. But its always switching between sprint and verizon killing my battery, lagging my phone and dropping my calls. F the airwave. I had force roaming with CM6 on my hero and would use it when im home and get full bars with no interuption and then switch to sprint when i step outside my door where i get full bars.
But anyways, nah i dont think the epic has force roaming yet...when someone ports CM6 over it should have it.
You can go into settings/wireless & networks/ mobile connection and set it to home only and it should be able to hold onto that 1 sprint bar you have and it wouldnt constantly switch to vzw and back, killing your phone.
It sucks. I remember i would hope i started roaming before i got the option for force roamong lol

And yeah roaming is free and unlimited on verizon. But apparently theres a data cap of 300mb on 3g and unlimited 4g roaming (which is bs cuz sprint is the only one using WiMax) with the 4g phones....but im not entirely sure...

Just so people know, there is an app in the market called "Roam Control" that allows you to force roaming on your Epic. Disclaimer: I am the developer.
Otherwise, with HTC phones, you can run CM6 which has the roaming option built in.

The rep tells me that by turning on wifi on my Vibrant I can get a better cell signal.
I ask her if the vibrant has some kind of Voip, and she comes back saying its not voip, its just that a cell signal can be boosted by t-mobile phones using wifi.
I specified I was talking about voice calls, and she says "yeah make and receive calls"- I'm like-No software needed?...She confirms.

Tho if you do talk to a rep, ask for someone in PDA support. They are usually a lot more knowledgeable
I think she got confused with the T-mobile G2 WiFi calling update that is being pushed out.
Now after checking back in with a tmob tech dude I'm told they ll be releasing an ota in the near future that'll allow the vibrant to make calls over wifi. I reconfirmed with her that I was on a vibrant and yes she assured me that it would be an ota update for this phone specifically.

I got one of these as well. It performs perfectly, as advertised. It hooks into your high-speed internet and has a GPS receiver (to make sure you're not creating sprint networks in other countries, etc).
I called Sprint, said I couldn't get reception in my place and that, if there was nothing they could do about it, I was going to switch to Verizon (which is true). The guy looked at my account, saw that I had an unlimited plan, said I was a "high-valued customer" and waived all fees.
I did have to call and dispute fees that were added anyway, but they fixed those. Now I get 5 bars as opposed to none in my apartment.

AirRave is a mini cell tower - so to speak - that plugs into your existing highspeed internet for VOIP calling. When the phone leaves its range, it attempts to hand the call to the tower. Keep in mind that they do take a line even if they do give it to you for free. Repeaters are a little pricey and will probably always be, not to mention I don't think they work for 3g - just 1x

Yeah they cancelled it awhile ago and I was pissed, as much as I tried to haggle with customer support.
At about the 30 day mark into my phones use I just could barely hang on with 1 bar in the house, they told me I had missed the mark to get one by about a week.
You can rent one from them for like $10/20 but that's messed up.
Now just crossing my fingers the 2.2 update will bring a better radio signal, but plywood walls suck.
Hey all,
So i just installed my Airave in my apartment, but I'm seing a lot of activity as far as the WAN light basically its rapidly blinking as if I Was making a phone call. Now here is my question... Can others beside me lock onto my Airave and use its signal? If so is there a way for me to block them out?
Yes,other people can use the airave. If you want to block them you have to call customer service. I believe that you can then give it permission based on phone numbers
yep anyone can. log into sprint website: click my devices: Update my air rave (on right side) :users: restrict accesses then add the numbers of people you want to be able to use it.
I was supposed to get an Airave but then Sprint screwed me because I get a discount for being in the military they said they will not give me one for free. Does it seem like you're getting a better signal?
Thank you guys
and yes, i get full signal, but mine doesn't allow me 3g, i only get 1X speeds with it, but I have wifi so whatever, also call quality is awesome.

Some versions of Airave don't give you 3g speeds, the earlier versions. A new revision was made recently that gives 3g, honestly i dont mind, i got my airave from my boss at work, he had it then canceled sprint.
The airave can not block phone numbers . I called the other day and ask about this problem and they said they can't fix it.also my airave also would set my evo to different time zone after 12 hours and my alarms wouldn't work.I have had mine off for a month now.but I get good signal now and don't pay for it anyways.

You can go to Sprint online and simply enter in the phone numbers you want to have access to the unit.
The way to test it is do a *99 from a number not entered and you wont get the message that you are going thru your personal tower.

True but my neighbours have sprint so I wouldn't want them grubbing off of my airave
I own an airave myself and had it for a year now here's the deal; only 3 users can talk on it at a time meaning they don't even have to know there on ur airwave but once they make a call it will automatically connect. The problem with that is I live in a apt and people used to connect to my **** all the time and I couldn't use it lol. And even the newer airaves don't allow 3g its about 150kbps max on data correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm 100% positive about only 3 users at a time. Now here's the next problem, I believe the airave DOESN'T play nice with AOSP roms it only likes sense. Reason I say this is because on both my heroc and evo running aosp my airave had mad problems nothing would work right ; time zones, calls connecting and just wouldn't let me make calls on the airave. But on sense roms I had no problems whatsoever. Lastly, about locking your airave ;if you lock your airave on an aosp(vanilla, cm etc) it most likely will have problems. This is how my problem got started in the first place to where I came up with my theory. I tried to lock it so people couldn't steal it on an aosp rom and it wouldn't work at all. To make an already long story shorter lol if you lock it I myself believes it will only work on sense roms and that sucks for me cause I hate sense roms, so rock aosp then airave has to be open and people steal my airave so I still can't use it lmfao. Either way it goes I have one and can't use it lol.

not sure about speeds as I never use it for data, i always connect to wifi while home.
so it would seem that there are a few just laying around at people homes who aren't even using them? I'm assuming that Sprint gave them to the people who have them free of charge as they had initially offered me?
That just makes me hate the customer service over at Sprint a little more right now.
Anyone willing to give up the one they aren't using? lol
The Rep told me only 3 users can use my device at once maybe mine is older, I have the white samsung airave that looks like a router. Even in the manual it says only 3 users can be on it at once. I've had mine a little over a year. When I get home ill try to find the manual. And I SAID BASED ON MY THEORY NOT ANYONE ELSES, for ME it never worked with any AOSP out there WHEN THE AIRAVE IS LOCKED. Meaning only the authorized numbers can use it and it only works on sense when its LOCKED. why don't you lock it and try for yourself. I've asked about this so many times in the heroc forums nobody had anything. When the airave is open it works on any rom. This is my exp not speaking for others.

3. I have had 0 problems with locking it and using aosp. Sure sometimes it wont send calls... but using the stock rom that happens too.

Youre wrong about the first 2 things nice try though. That's your normal 3g speeds my airave doesn't even support 3g my 3g with out turning my airave is about 1mb when its on my data is way slower. Do your research homeboy before you try to call someone out bro.

I'm more than likely posting this in the wrong section but it regards to an EVO so I apologize in advance....
Would it be possible to flash a Sprint EVO onto verizons network I want the EVO I looked into the thunderbolt and I think its nothing but garbage just my opinion, I had it for 10 days and it was so bad I went and returned it and went back to my incredible since I don't have 4g in North Dakota it would be an issue I got my MSL code from Verizon. I've seen the EVO on boost and pageplus unfortunately I only have IDEN coverage for boost no cdma or I would just go that route. So would this be possible??? I know there are sites claiming they have the files that will make it work but I'd rather not pay for something that might not work. I know what your thinking why not just switch to Sprint well we don't have coverage here. So my choices are Verizon, AT&T, & Nextel. Nextel is out of the question for the fact I believe its still completely IDEN which means not smartphones except for a blackberry and there is no way I will switch to a blackberry I had a hard time switching from winmo 6.5 to android.

Yuppers... Frowney face indeed
Ugh... That's what I came across in my six hours of searching, but didn't they pass a law in 2006 that made it legal to switch carriers and flash it, since its your device you paid for it you should be able to do with it as you please within reason of course, also would it make a difference if the esn/meid is clean?
I mentioned pageplus in my op its a prepaid company owned by (Verizon) the evil V as I call it lol I know they got it boost which is as we all know is a prepaid company of Sprint which is seeming more and more like the best of the "big 4" soon to be the "big 3"

It is legal to do so, but the carrier has to approve the device and one big thing that won't be approved is the Sprint logo on the front of the device. Also I could be wrong, but for basic network coverage not counting Wimax since Verizon doesn't use Wimax, I believe Sprint and Verizon use different frequencies but I could be wrong.
There was a time when Sprint announced that they will activate any Verizon phone on their network. I can't remember if Verizon sued them, or if Sprint backed out. It was a very huge deal.

that's for their "4G", not the CDMA 1x/EvDO spectrum
Ah, that's true, I totally blanked on the fact that he doesn't have 4g coverage anyway and that issue isn't on the table
Thanks for all the input guys, maybe I can find a friend of mine that happens to have an EVO they would be willing to let me borrow to try this out on, and update prl and everything else and see if I can get to VZW ota programming prompt and if I can get that far, I should be close to in the clear see if I goes through completely or somehow rewrite the esn/meid's which probably isn't legal but I'm sure can be done lol, and browsing around early this morning I found out I can get page plus coverage haha but I refuse to give up my unlimited data, I know there is a way to flash it to them though.. but thank you again for all the input

It's possible. I'm on Verizon PRL right now as we speak. I dial *2 and I get Verizon customer service

Yeah but that's data roaming, little different.
It's possible just a few things you need:
1) Verizon has to approve it for their network
2) You would need your number AND your MIN as well as your cellular email address: it would be something like your10digit [email protected] verizon has for .com
3)Your MSL so you can program the phone for verizon (if you're rooted, MSL Reader from the Market will get that for you)
4)Verizon PRL
My evo is programed for cricket. AND the Evo can be programmed for boost. I went with cricket because there is no grey area there. Just program my phone for cricket, call them up and have them add my Evo's ESN.
Cricket was more than willing to give me the information I needed (MIN is the only thing I needed from them) and I got someone (who i guess works for cricket, one of those cricket forums) to add my ESN to my account. (you don't even have to change the radios, just change the PRL)
I look at it like this, Verizon takes a loss on every phone sold. Well every postpaid carrier does. So I would think they would jump at the chance for you to save them some money while spending money with them in the process.
How would I get them to accept the esn and accept the EVO for their service? I'm on a prepaid account now so I would be paying retail anyway...
