The EVO Flashed to Verizon - EVO 4G General

I'm more than likely posting this in the wrong section but it regards to an EVO so I apologize in advance....
Would it be possible to flash a Sprint EVO onto verizons network I want the EVO I looked into the thunderbolt and I think its nothing but garbage just my opinion, I had it for 10 days and it was so bad I went and returned it and went back to my incredible since I don't have 4g in North Dakota it would be an issue I got my MSL code from Verizon. I've seen the EVO on boost and pageplus unfortunately I only have IDEN coverage for boost no cdma or I would just go that route. So would this be possible??? I know there are sites claiming they have the files that will make it work but I'd rather not pay for something that might not work. I know what your thinking why not just switch to Sprint well we don't have coverage here. So my choices are Verizon, AT&T, & Nextel. Nextel is out of the question for the fact I believe its still completely IDEN which means not smartphones except for a blackberry and there is no way I will switch to a blackberry I had a hard time switching from winmo 6.5 to android.

Yuppers... Frowney face indeed

Ugh... That's what I came across in my six hours of searching, but didn't they pass a law in 2006 that made it legal to switch carriers and flash it, since its your device you paid for it you should be able to do with it as you please within reason of course, also would it make a difference if the esn/meid is clean?
I mentioned pageplus in my op its a prepaid company owned by (Verizon) the evil V as I call it lol I know they got it boost which is as we all know is a prepaid company of Sprint which is seeming more and more like the best of the "big 4" soon to be the "big 3"

It is legal to do so, but the carrier has to approve the device and one big thing that won't be approved is the Sprint logo on the front of the device. Also I could be wrong, but for basic network coverage not counting Wimax since Verizon doesn't use Wimax, I believe Sprint and Verizon use different frequencies but I could be wrong.

There was a time when Sprint announced that they will activate any Verizon phone on their network. I can't remember if Verizon sued them, or if Sprint backed out. It was a very huge deal.

that's for their "4G", not the CDMA 1x/EvDO spectrum

Ah, that's true, I totally blanked on the fact that he doesn't have 4g coverage anyway and that issue isn't on the table

Thanks for all the input guys, maybe I can find a friend of mine that happens to have an EVO they would be willing to let me borrow to try this out on, and update prl and everything else and see if I can get to VZW ota programming prompt and if I can get that far, I should be close to in the clear see if I goes through completely or somehow rewrite the esn/meid's which probably isn't legal but I'm sure can be done lol, and browsing around early this morning I found out I can get page plus coverage haha but I refuse to give up my unlimited data, I know there is a way to flash it to them though.. but thank you again for all the input

Yeah but that's data roaming, little different.

It's possible just a few things you need:
1) Verizon has to approve it for their network
2) You would need your number AND your MIN as well as your cellular email address: it would be something like your10digit [email protected] verizon has for .com
3)Your MSL so you can program the phone for verizon (if you're rooted, MSL Reader from the Market will get that for you)
4)Verizon PRL
My evo is programed for cricket. AND the Evo can be programmed for boost. I went with cricket because there is no grey area there. Just program my phone for cricket, call them up and have them add my Evo's ESN.
Cricket was more than willing to give me the information I needed (MIN is the only thing I needed from them) and I got someone (who i guess works for cricket, one of those cricket forums) to add my ESN to my account. (you don't even have to change the radios, just change the PRL)
I look at it like this, Verizon takes a loss on every phone sold. Well every postpaid carrier does. So I would think they would jump at the chance for you to save them some money while spending money with them in the process.

How would I get them to accept the esn and accept the EVO for their service? I'm on a prepaid account now so I would be paying retail anyway...

Last night with Hero

Well I had to do it because of connection issues. Sprint service sucks here and I have tried numerous things but just couldn't get past having terrible reception. So moving over to Verizon. Didn't have enough the other day when I ordered phones from amazon, so I got 3 Droids for a penny. Will probably upgrade 2 of them within the month to and Incredible and the X. Love the Hero love the forums and help here, just cant deal with no service 99% of my time.

hey one Q... cant we switch the droid to sprint... i think its possible.....
yes, you can. They are both cdma. You need to program the baseband with sprint's network info, just use a hero to pull the config from.
not entirely related; since we have neither sprint or Verizon here in Alaska; if you are a sprint customer you roam on digitel (worst network in the state). if you are a Verizon customer you roam with ACS (best network in the state).

actually no, its pretty great. My carrier is a small local company that offers me excellent service and coverage. (my house is -58dbm average and 1.2Mbit evdo)
I'm probably the only person on this forum that doesn't have free long distance service on their phone but that's my choice, my carrier offers national plans but for me everyone i call is here in Alaska so I prefer the cheaper plan.

Dan Hesse would probably get on his knees for the iPhone. $69.99 for the iPhone 4 on the Everything Data plan would take Sprint to new heights.
I just don't want it crippling the network. I can see using my upgrade for it if nothing makes me want to leave the evo. Can you imagine the craigslist price on launch?
Wonder if they would put it out as the first 3G only phone with a premium data charge?

You bring up a good point. I can't see how they could justify a $10 fee on a 3G phone. Lets pretend that the iPhone is a sure thing if they want it, I could see them either being greedy as hell and attaching the fee anyway, or not carrying it until there's a 4G version. If it's the latter, you probably wont see a iPhone on Sprint until they (if they every)change to LTE or Apple includes a WiMax version (which is unlikely).

Forgive me, I come from the GSM side of cellular, but why wouldn't this be possible? I can take an AT&T iPhone (800/1900MHz) and run it on T-Mobile (1900MHz). It should be possible to flop any Verizon (800/1900MHz) to Sprint(1900/2100MHz). Again, I am fairly new to the CDMA side of mobile so it is quite possible I am missing something obvious.

CDMA doesn't have SIM cards (well at least not here). You have to activate your phone via the carrier and ESN number of the phone. Sprint will only activate ESNs that are in their system (just Sprint phones).

That's the iPhone product cycle in general. There were probably a ton of people who bought AT&T iPhone 4's today despite the looming unveiling of the iPhone 5.
Funny how my thread got epically trashed by noobs and trolls, yet this thread that is discussing the same thing seems clean. inb4 trolls log on and start acting like retards.
As far as ESN cloning goes, from what I know, its only illegal if you use it avoid your payments and do deceptive things with it, but if you are actually paying for your service, then i don't think you can get in trouble for it.
The only reason ESN was even made illegal was to stop people siphoning money from the companies and such, but since you own both the device and the service plan, i dont think they can do anything to you. And im pretty sure if the cdma iphone were to be dropped, it would be unlocked within matter of hours, and then modified for sprint and all the other cdma services within a matter of days.
What i want to know, is if someone can actually hardmod the phone to enable sprint wimax, or verizon lte on it? (most likely not since iOS is closed source, but still possible)

Changing the ESN is a very gray area. BUT changing the operating frequency of a transmitter is a whole other ball of wax(which you would going between Sprint, and Verizon or AT&T, and T-Mobile. Once you change the operating frequency that the transmitter was certified for it loses it's FCC Type Acceptance. It is no longer in the eyes of the FCC a legal phone. Now doing it to equipment on bands outside the cellphone allocations the FCC really doesn't monitor, or enforce unless someone complains. Fart around on aircraft, cellphone, and govt/military you will be paid a very personal visit by an FCC agent (and in this day and age the local swat team, and reps from various three lettered agencies).
FYI the only FCC licensed radio operator that can modify transmitters (or build for their personal use) for operation (within spec) on their allocated frequencies are Radio Amateurs. Once that radio has been modded it can no longer be used outside the Radio Amateur Bands.

If your poor sprint coverage is just a problem in your house you can let them know and they will send you an antenna that "piggy backs" off of your broadband. Will give you full bars in and around your house. But if your general region has bad signal a new carrier might be the answer.

Whatever coverage is best is what you should get. Company perks and phones don't mean anything if you can't use it.
As far as comparisons - Sprint is cheaper and has yearly upgrades. AT&T was just voted worst in every state in the US on it's network. Verizon is first, Sprint is second and T-Mobile is third.

You know I like you, I'm not bashing. But I have to ask.. Amidst all the discussion about Sprint changing their "Premier" program why would you, of all people, be selling others on yearly upgrades when that is available only to people who have the most expensive plans..
smh @ Sprint
OP- imo, Sprint is still the best service provider. If you get a spring Sprint signal then stock with them, just don't get your hopes up on that annual upgrade.

I love Sprint now that I have the Airave. When I moved to my new place, I had one bar if I was lucky, and it didn't make sense to walk out into the courtyard to make calls all the time. I just called to cancel due to lack of service, and was sent a free Airave. Set it up, and it's been the best thing ever.
OP, I just switched over from AT&T. My whole family has been on AT&T pretty much since they became a carrier. I've had their phones for at least 10 years. Loved my Tilt and Fuze to death but their service was horrible. My uncle has to drive 2 hours for work and would drop calls 4-5 times along the way. Since switching over to Sprint he's dropped none. I'd have the same call drop issue, even just sitting on my couch at home, no issue since coming to Sprint.
Also, just something an AT&T sales rep at a corporate store mentioned, AT&T is starting to worry about going out of business. From what the rep said, they're pretty sure most iPhone users will switch to Verizon once they get the phone. Mostly because of the poor customer service AT&T offers. Even the rep admitted that their way of looking at things was pretty much that they're the only carrier that offered the iPhone and could get away with the poor service since people wanted the phone so bad. Now with Verizon getting it, they're kind of SOL.
I don't know if the rep was just assuming things, or if that's something AT&T is truely concerned about. Either way, I won't be going back to them anytime soon - if ever.

Sprint and T-Mobile merger? Thoughts?

http://paidcontent.org/article/419-report-sprint-t-mobile-usa-pondering-merger/
I kind of like the idea. T-Mobile gets a bigger coverage area and Sprint gets more customers (meaning: we get more 4g towers if they stick with WiMax).
Thoughts?
Hasnt Sprint already learned their lesson about merging two different companies with seperate technologies? I would hope so...

I would actually be kind of pissed about this. I had T-Mobile for 8 years, until last year when I switched to Sprint and the Evo, they moved me to a non-contract plan without my consent(could not find any signed documents anywhere to prove I agreed to this) and would not let me back into a contract. If I wanted the phone discount I had to get a new phone number and contract. So, now I am with Sprint.
From a network standpoint, I would love it. T-Mobile has the best coverage here in AZ.

Well yeah, the short term challenge is keeping both services running, but eventually they'll get it straightened out.
The G2, the Evo, the MyTouch 4g and the Shift all on the same network? I could get used to that. My G2 could get activated again!

Why would we get more 4G towers by merging with T-Molbile if they don't use WiMax? T-Mobile uses HSPA+ for 4G.
Would this mean I would owe Sprint the $1800 that I owe T-mobile???? I sure hope not.

If it happens, then I believe it would cement Sprint into the transition to LTE. Best way for them to eliminate the technological divide.

Precisely, I think Sprint is doing this to switch to LTE and the transition will be easier with this acquisition. They would not do this to switch T-mobile to wimax and cdma. I think Sprint is looking seriously to make the change and is behind in the LTE race to Verizon and ATT. T-mobile and other partnerships they are pursuing will make the road to LTE much faster. Could be wrong though.
Great idea...Hopefully they keep CDMA & GSM so I can have my Evo on my main line & I can switch between a few GSM devices on my second line.

T-mobile screwed my plan all up when I got the G1 and refused to fix it so I left them for Sprint and never paid They said they'll settle for $800 but I said no. Maybe Sprint will cut me some slack

Hey I just talked to your credit. It said LMFAO.
i do not see this happening even though ive seen this rumor on several sites. i mean would sprint go gsm then? or would they offer both cdma & gsm phones?
i mean sprint does not allow any phone they do not sell onto their network. if this happens tons of iphone users will be pissed off.
Isn't the old nextel Network the same as Tmobils? Sprint could just phase out cdma and combine the tmobil and Nextel networks, then convert all wimax to LTE. Although they might have an issue with the people who bought wimax phones, they could just give them $200 toward a new lte 4g phone with a 2 year contract and call it a day.

1. iDEN network is being phased out in 2013, freeing up spectrum for Sprint's 3G/4G.
2. Switching to LTE is supposed to be 'easy' since it shares 70-80% of its DNA with Wimax.
3. Sprint's Network Vision will consolidate its different network equipment/stations, making them take up less space and less cost to run.
4. T-Mobile is in dire need of spectrum, which Sprint/Clearwire has a lot of.
5. T-Mobile has not yet adopted a new 4G network (LTE) beyond its enhanced HSPA network marketed as '4G'.
HSPA+ > all 4G (WiMax or LTE)
I think this is a great idea.... the problem of separate networks was solved ages ago.. dual mode GSM/CDMA phone.... If sprint did this they would increase the footprint and just use dual mode phones and there we go done deal.
Before Sprint went CDMA, they were called Sprint Spectrum, using GSM. When Sprint made the switch to CDMA they spun off their GSM network into a company called Voice Stream, which later became T-Mobile. If Sprint were to merge with T-Mobile, it would just be Sprint bring home it's off spring.

Flash Evo to Verizon?

I apologize if this has been covered, I didn't find anything in a quick search. A buddy was asking about flashing his Evo to Verizon. I saw a few youtube videos showing results but haven't found a process.

Sim unlock? You could call Verizon customer care or a store and ask if nobody on here knows, I assume it would work but have never heard of anyone doing it.
I dont think so.
You can have your evo run off of verizon's towers with a prl hack
swyped from my cyanogenized and gingerbreaded EVO
There's no legal way to do it.
You would have to fake your esn number and such.

Both vzw and sprint use CDMA... no simcards involved.
To OP: No, verizon requires the ESN to be already present on their database (same way as sprint) before activating the device.
The process is likely the same as it is to get the evo to work on boost, cricket, or other cdma providers.
I haven't done this personally, nor do I know anyone who has, but in theory, it seems like it should.

Boost is owned by Sprint so it makes some sense that you could cross those phones.
Not sure about cricket but it's my guess that they don't lock down their esns.
The only way I've ever heard of using a Sprint/Verizon phone on either network is with esn spoofing and it's not legal, at all.
Until carriers allow other phones ont heir networks it's a no-go. Except as said above by changing ESN (illegal) or having one hell of an inside connection. The ESN would have to be added to their database of accepted devices. Like I said...a hell of an inside connection would be needed.
You said it bro! Spoof was the word I was looking for. Will require a donor phone though on the network you want to use it on.

It's not illegal to change your ESN as long as you are paying for the fees. The legality comes in when you try to clone ESN in order to avoid fees.
But even if OP were to clone the ESN, the frequency's don't really match and would have problems working
And if this was remotely feasible, I'd have a Verizon iPhone 4 on Sprint right now.
