Screen too slippery? (makes "tap" input hard) - Nexus S General

Anyone else have the problem of intended "taps" turning into short "swipes" because of how slick the screen is? With apps it's annoying, for example on my homescreen sometimes trying to launch something from an icon just slides to the next screen. This never happened on my last Android phone with a less slippery screen.
Now I am playing the game "cut the rope" and the inability to make multiple taps in rapid succession (because some/all register as slides) is killing me with the blue air push thingies.
Maybe a screen protector would help. I tried one on my old phone once and took it off because it made the screen too sticky... i.e. not slippery... which is what I want here. :-/

Haven't had any issues with the screen. I would say its on par or better than most devices I've used. Depending on how long you've had it you may just have to get used to the sensitivity.

My suggestion is go to best buy and get a zagg screen protector and pay them to install it. Go there in the evening and after they install it, don't use the phone. Take it home and let it charge overnight. In the morning, the screen should be sufficiently dry enough to use like normal. It is important to let it dry properly without it being disturbed. Yes this may be ocd but I've made the mistake of having one installed and ignoring their advice and using the phone like normal. Whenever the phone would heat up, like from being in a pocket, the protector would slide on the screen. I remember how slick the screen was. Getting a zagg put on it will take care of that issue and be better for protecting the screen from scuffs and scratches.

Is there really a need for a screen protecter?

ive been using a screen protecter 6for 6 monthsi decided to take it off cuz it was annoying and the screen looked sweaty, ive been using it for a month without any scratches do u think i should get a new 1 i like the feeling of the glass screen when i tap on it.
there is a need. because with the protector, you do not have to worry about keeping the screen scratch free.
Anything with a screen and no protector will eventually get scratched and ugly. Rather have it protected than unprotected. Also if it looks sweaty, it might be that you didn't apply the protector properly or you had something in it during the process...
I agree... get it... it might look seaty because it was not put on right.. or it is gettign oils off of you skin and you are nto cleanign ti regularly enough.. it happens to everyone...
As far as not needing on yet.... that is always the case.. you don't need one, untill it is too late.. eitehr it slips out of your hands onto bricks or concreat.. it catches a corner somewhere, etc... it can help...
I lost the stylus on my device almost a year ago, and I have been using pens, paper clips, toothpicks and anything else I can get my hands on as a "stylus". This phone goes everywhere with me, and unfortunately it's been a little abused! Needless to say, there is only a tiny scratch in the lower corner of the screen! It's very durable!
If you get a good screen protector & fit it correctly to a good & clean screen you will be hard pushed to know it is there.
Problem is finding good screen protectors but well worth the effort to use them.
It is so easy to scratch the screen or get stains on it, with a screen protector on mine I can grab the phone & tap the screen even if my fingers are a bit mucky & not worry if the kids want to play a game on it ect.
Well worth having if you keep your devices for a while & want to retain good resale value.
The ink in the notes apps tends to jump all over the screen, and after testing the angles, different styli and several similar applications I found that it was dirt/oil, whatever found it's way on the screen! I guess an investment in a couple new stylus and a screen protector are in order to avoid the most expensive, loved brick ever!

Strange damage on the screen

I'm using my SGS for almost a month now and there're appearing strange spots on the screen. I have absolutely no idea what it is and what's causing it. Has anyone seen something like this before?

Never before.. the screen is totally off? What do you use to clean the screen? Do you feel the same touching the bright area and the opaque area?
Silly question maybe but has it got a screen protector on it?
Is it very humid where you are? Looks like moisture under the screen.
Take it to Samsung, maybe it's some kind of defect that's allowing moisture in.
There's no screenprotector on it. When it just appeared I couldn't feel the spots, now I can by moving my finger over them. They look like tiny scratches caused by sand but I always carry my phone in my pocket so that's just impossible.
At the photo the screen is totally turned off. I don't use any chemicals to clean the screen.

No idea.. I'm using screen protector until I got it out the box. By the way I always carry it in my pants pocket, and normally I use jeans... but the protector looks fine.
The area does look like the usual place to touch the screen (normal keyboard usage at the bottom of the screen and up/down scrolling in the middle). My only conclusion is either a defect screen or you've used it once without noticing you still had some chemicals on your skin.

My thought too, maybe it had pressure with someting when you had it in your pocket with something else that was in your pocket or something that pressed you leg/poket for outside

I never carry something in the same pocket a where I carry my phone in. As I move my finger over the screen I can slightly feel a bit of rough surface but when I clean my screen it's not visible while some other damaging is.
If it is in fact a damaged screen I wouldn't panic too much. There are tutorials online on how to repair damaged screens (as long as they're glass). You sand and polish the screen and it comes out as good as new. Although, for the SGS it would probably be best to remove the screen from the chasis first (they don't remove the screen as there is no bezel).
What games have you been playing? It look more like rubbing marks on several games that I can think off.
The damage is probably under the glass from excessive pressure over a pride of time.

The coating has come off the screen it looks like... something must have been on your hands that burnt it off.
It's almost impossible the damage has been caused by excessive pressure. Since a few days I can actually feel the spots as they are a bit more rough then the rest of the screen. If the coating has come of the screen, will it be accepted when I return it warranty?
I had exactly this but a bit smaller. I took it back to the store (Hi) and requested a repair. The first time i noted 2 errors for it:
- Screen screwed
- GPS fix doesnt work or takes long
So... what they did; they flashed 2.2 and sent it back as repaired (funny I downgraded it to 2.1 stock after running 2.2.1 for weeks for this repair...). The folks at Hi agreed it was bullsh*t and they sent it again with the notice they didn't repair the screen. After another week the online status page said they didn't find a defect. Hi called them before they sent it back to have another look at it, since I even provided pictures with a red circle around the spots I'm still confused how they could miss this (maybe only blind people work at Teleplan...?). Then a few days later i saw they replaced "front mea i9000". Since today i got it back with a brand new screen. So.. if anyone else has this problem: send it back for repair and provide the picture in this topic to be extra clear (I wish I saw this photo, otherwise I would have provided this one with it).
I have the same thing only a lot smaller...
I have a circle on my screen from my €2 currency. Its not a scratch but something weird...

did not you touch it accidentally with a "dirty" finger? (like isopropyl alcohol or adhesive remover etc) I had a similar damage on my HTC phone long time ago... I forgot to wash my hand before I picked up a call.
Looks like pressure damage. Had something similar with a htc touch. Looked like a oil like fluid within the screen. Amazingly the screen works still great. But the touch had a resistive screen, the sgs ones is capacitive. This in mind I don't know if it could be the same problem.

People without screen protector

Hey was wondering how is the screen holding up. Do you guys having any scratches on them or anything? I'm debating on whether to take mine off
It's a very tough screen, mine is still in mint condition w/o a screen protector, but I never leave any sharp objects such as keys in the same pocket as my phone either.
No scratch at all, looks like new... (other than the rest of the device).
And I never used any "protective" thingies.

I've had my HD2 for 14 months and there are no scratches on it at all. When I first got it I saw the well known youtube vid of a guy trying to scratch his HD2 screen and failing. One night I was drunk and decided to show this to a mate, so I took a bottle cap and went to work with my screen, as hard as I could! We were both very impressed at the results (or lack of), but I noticed not long after that you could see where I had scratched it when I'd run my finger over it. If I wiped it clean then you couldn't see it at all. It was VERY feint, but it was there when smudged.
However, it's now 100% disappeared, even after major use.
I used to have a screen protector, but no longer bother. It's obviously always recommended not to put your phone in your pocket with keys & loose change etc., but this screen is THE BEST screen I've ever had on a phone.
I think it only needs a minimum of common sense and it will live for a looooooooooooong time!
Took mine off month ago, and very happy I did. It did nothing but lessen screen sensitivity and slightly dull viewing.
The glass on the screen can't withstand every stracth known to man, but it's pretty tough. Usually, the people with really messed up glass dropped theirs and the glass BROKE.
Here's the scratch test video and here's another thread about this where others share their thoughts and experiences.
I have just avoided putting in the same pocket as my keys, so far so good.
Wow that's pretty cool. I think I'm still going to keep one on though. To me its sort of like insurance. I may not need it often, but when I do, I sure will be glad I have it!

AHHH!!! They really need to move that damn thanks button, but thanks for that
To be honest, if it gives you peace of mind and doesn't have an adverse effect (sensitivity & brightness mainly) then yeah, keep it on.
I have my HD2 about 1,5 years now, and the screen didn't have a scratch at all. Unfortunately the back plate loses it clear finish, but that's acceptable.
Almost a year and no scratches whatsoever. I do keep it in a case whenever I am carrying it around, though. The only wear I can see at all are some indentations in the material on the top right corner of the handset.
Hi,
Got a cover, no scratch at all, like many people, i don't mix keys/smartphone screen, the best way to damage it !
almost a year and no scratch at all. I must say I guard it with my life.
it never leaves my sight and is always in it's original leather pocket.
I had a HTC Touch Cruise before and it was a plastic restitve touchscreen.
Even that thing was okay and usable after 3 years... It had many deep scratches but with backlight on you only saw them a bit and it wasnt a problem for the usability
The screen of the hd2 really needs some effort to get scratched. In my opinion a screen protector is useless, because the power that is needet to scratch this screen would easily cut the protector
But i also use the barely there case, to avoid scratches on the housing (put some tape on the corners to avoid damage from case on/off). The screen protector that was with this case gives me a better feeling on the touchscreen, its easier to glide ^^ and i dont have so many fingerprints
^^^
Fingerprints can be easily removed, you know
Mine is over 9 months old, still as good as new .
My secret is "The Magical Original Leather Pouch"
It never gets out of it, unless I want to use it
Is the camera lens cover made from the same material? Does it resist scratches as well as the screen?
I also don't use a screen protector. My phone is kept in a leather belt pouch, but is handled delicately (partially because it is expensive and partially because it is such a beautiful phone).
Got my TMOUS HD2 when they first came out, and screen is still perfect. I do keep it in a pocket by itself though, so no contact with keys or change.
Ive had mine around 14 months now, never used a protector and there's no problems at all with my screen. This is even after I stopped using the leather pouch a few months ago after getting an extended battery and even after dropping the phone a few times!
Almost one year without screen-protector and without case.
Not only one scratch on the screen.
I have two scratches on the screen, but you have to make effort to see them.
I took it to a sandy beach to read books every day all summer long, no protection whatsoever.
It's a great phone.

[Q] Cracked screen -> fast battery drain now

I cracked my screen pretty badly this weekend and am planning on ordering the replacement parts this week (debating the just glass or the new glass/LCD options). But I've noticed since then(last 2 days) the battery has drained pretty fast. Normally I get 2 days from a charge, today I pulled the phone off the cord at 8am and now at 3pm I got a pop-up saying <10%. The phone has only sat on the desk. No calls, no emails, no text, no web surfing.
Maybe the screen is getting mixed signals, being cracked and all.
Any ideas?

I am not really knowledgable about the exact interworkings of the HD2's internal hardware. But I do think it would be a pretty fair assumption that the cracked screen could be the cause of the sudden battery drain. You know your HD2 better than anybody else would as far as daily functionality of your HD2. So if it was not having a battery drain before you cracked the screen. And now you do after and this is the singular change in the state of the HD2 be it hardware wise or software wise. Then logic would say that is it.
Have you thought any about it might not just be the screen that is cracked. What about the internals. How hard did it hit, and how hard was the object the phone hit????
One last thing, be nice to your HD2, it is nice to you. ha ha ha....... But really take it easy on the hardware.
I trimmed the tape on it down to only covering the glass (finger protection mostly) and got it off the edges and out from around the back. This seemed to really help. I've noticed from the beginning of owning this phone that there are some sensitive spots on the sides that when pressure is applied the phone acts like a button was pressed etc. So I must have been causing this. Even with the screen off it was still reading a button push and having to process this action, using power.
I need to find a hard shell for the phone. The rubber thing that came with it is useless as it sticks in your pocket, I need smooth hard plastic I guess. The phone slipped out of my hand as I was getting out of the car and landed face down. Pure accident.

I too have notice the same thing about my HD2 that ertain areas around the edge are sensative, like you said almost like you were pressing abutton of some sort. I am glad you figured something out that helps stop the battery drain. I know that can be agrevating as hell.
If you have a T-Mobile HD2 like I do you could try the Body Glove. I have one on mine, it is a two piece hard plastic cover you HD2 slides up in. ig has a pull out kickstand on the back also, I really like it. It has help protect my HD2 several times when I accidently dropped it out of my hand. I do warn you though after having it on your HD2 for awhile it will make to little scuff marks of the clear coat on your battery cover. Also I have notice I have to make sure I have a ferm grip on it when I pick it up cause the plastic cover is a little slick not like when gou have the rubber case on it. I attached two photos of the cover, oh and you can buy it from T-mobile store or from the T-Mobile website. I suggest website it is cheaper there.

[Q]LG Quickview, some questions

I've searched and strangely not found a thorough thread about the LG Quickview cover. It seems very well made, and I really liked the design on the OEM Samsung S3 covers, which seems comparable.
My question to you guys who have it is, does it feel bigger, is it annoying to have on, and does it make the phone less slippery and easier to hold?
Thank you for your replies
I have the case. It does feel pretty well made.
as for you questions: It doesn't feel bigger. It is nearly the exact same size as the phone without the case. It's not annoying to me to have the case on, but your preference may be different. If you think the back of the phone is slippery already then the case won't really help. The back of the quickview case feels pretty much exactly the same as the back of the phone normally. Although, It doesn't show fingerprints as bad.
The only issue I have with the case is that: sometimes when I have the screen cover flipped back while using my phone for a long period of time, the cover doesn't want to stay on the screen. It will slightly raise up and cause the screen to come on.
Also, I've only had the case for about a month, so I can't really say how the flip screen cover holds up long term, even though it seems solid as of right now.
oh yeah, Also this case does not provide great protection from drops, it will slip right out of the case. It's not the tightest fit. Overall, it's a pretty good case for minimal protection and a slim look.
Thank you for taking the time to reply to me! I'm still on the fence about it, since it's pretty expensive. but it sounds good.

Bought it same time as the phone. Amazingly thin and doesn't impede touch at the margins of screen like most snap on cases. Best case I ever owned, hands down. Spendy, yes, but I don't regret paying. It's only basic drop protection but excellent against scrapes and scratches.
The hard plastic back is basically identical in finish to the international phone but the flipper front is grippy textured vinyl on the outside and microfiber on the inside. Flipped over 180 degrees, the microfiber is against your hand and is really easy to hold. Closed and face down, it becomes slip resistant on smooth surfaces.

I ditched mine after the first drop. I couldn't believe the phone just popped out. Only protected it for the first hit.
Hi. I have the quickview case which comes with the phone, bought it during promotion period. I love this casing, especially with the auto screen on/off function. It does not feel annoying at all. It offers screen protection when the phone is in the pocket since I don't like screen protection film. The way I hold the phone with this casing is by grabbing it at the window opening with my left index and thumb while the other three fingers hold the back of the phone so this way I don't have to fold the flip all the way back. I know it takes a little getting used to, but I find it very stable holding the phone this way.
btw, I'm from Singapore and this is my first post!
I bought one when I got the phone and returned it a day later. I thought it looked nice, but I hated the way it felt when you held it open. I felt like it was harder to hold. Also, I was very disappointed in how little function it has. Only a handful of apps will show notifications through it and they hardly do anything. Also, dust would form around the border of the window. I was very disappointed in it. I would not recommend it.

Just received mine yesterday from Sprint, guess they sent them to those that ordered by phone also. Almost didn't even put it on though. Had been using a Diztronic case for the first week and do like it. The fit and finish of the Quickview case seems good, but not sure of protection from a fall. It is more comfortable than I thought it would be. I like the auto on and off, but you give up the long press volume button shortcuts. I did notice that now only the window part of the screen gets dirty which can be distracting. All in all I am liking it more than I thought I would but not sure which case I will use long term.
