OK, since I've solved my last problem on my own and got Android working again, I now have another problem I need help with.
I want to use QtADB, but I can't connect to my phone.
As far as I know I need to change some settings in phoneutil, but I can't open the settings menu.
When I dial *#7284# nothing happens.
So I can't access phoneutil settings.
I've made a fresh install of Android (latest beta) right before that, so I haven't messed something up already I guess.

Probably you can try Wireless ADB, which works similar to QtADB, but uses Wi-fi to access ADB.

Thanks, Wireless ADB does work, but it's too slow for my needs.

Hi,
i just rooted my phone, before rooting i connected it with my pc and it worked. after rooting and trying to make livewallpapers enabled( what didnt worked because of to less memory in /system) i cant connect my g3 with my pc i tried everything, for sure the options ....
Have you tried *#7284# ? (both pda)
What will it do?
I haven't done a hard reset or anything else ...
*#7284# opens up an app called PhoneUtil. Don't worry, it doesn't hard reset your phone or harm it in any way.
Inside the app, under the heading "USB", switch from "PDA" to "MODEM". Now switch back to PDA. You can exit the app now.
Now try connecting to your PC. You should be good to go.
PS - You need to enter *#7284# from the stock Phone app/dialer. The code does nothing on third-party dialers.
I have the same problem. The USB symbol in the notification bar is displayed as it should be, but I can't establish any connection (Kies, data storage, media player, modem).
I've tried with that code before and no help.
I found a way to connect because I wanted to check for Froyo availability through Kies.
I removed the SD card, connected the USB cable, selected Kies and it connected immediately.
Most likely USB Debugging Mode is on.
Sent from my Lestatious v1.3 Galaxy 3 FROYO
I will check it out with removing my sdcard thank you.
no debugging mode is off, if i connect my phone with the pc, kies recognizes this and search for a phone but it just stop after about 30 secounds. i tried to reinstall my drivers and kies but it also didnt helped.
btw : is froyo meanwhile officially available?
ok i will also check your idea kage110
more tomorrow

this worked for me as well. Thanks
Ran into a rather bad problem today after flashing to Kyrillos 3.0 Final and trying to root my phone.
Windows just won't connect my phone. If I uninstall the drivers, it works for the first time after I restart the computer and Windows installs them, but after that they just stop working.
There's also an "unknown device" in the device manager list, below the "Android USB composite device" that fails to install its drivers.
I've tried everything Google threw at me, but I can't find a fix for this.
Edit:
It appears I have a found a fix:
I reinstalled all of the phone drivers and now I can connect my phone if I switch USB ports every time I connect it. Luckily, I have two ports in front so I can easily switch between them.
Have you already tried *#7284* in dial?

No I have not, I'm not gonna do it before I know what it does.
Edit:
Searched for it and found it. The last * is actually a #.
Thank you so much! It fixed everything, I couldn't get my phone to connect at all after rooting and partitioning!
Anyone else having problems getting their Windows 7 PC to pick up there SIII
When I connect my Phone I get the following message.
***********
Hardware device missing
Windows cannot identify the device SAMSUNG USB
***********
Or something like that.
Anyway, it picked it up once (yesterday) and nothing since then. Its really annoying as it won't connect to Kies.

There are two possible issue at play here, one your pc drivers are incorrect or two the phone has an issue (1 is much more likely).
1) Uninstall Kies, reboot the pc, reinstall kies and disconnect from the internet then plug your phone in.
see if that works, if not you may need to manually point to the correct drivers
2) Odin flash your existing rom back using the "update bootloader" issue, this will repair any slight niggles on the phone side.
Tried option 1 and still nothing, Kies keeps crashing and the phone will still not connect.
How do I manualy select the right driver???
I don't really want to try option 2. I only have the phone 2 weeks and I'm very happy with it as it is. I don't want to go modding it like my last phone.
I have this issue too.
You are not alone...Lot of users have this issue!
I cant really find what cause it, but you can read some threads here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828016
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844400
There are more you can find if google the problem...
I always for now unistall/install drivers again. But after 2-3 times of properly connections the issue is back.

Option 2 is not strictly speaking modding, all you will be doing is flashing the stock rom (the rom you already have on your phone) back over itself, you will not be rooting or customising everything, the rom will still be "official" and not "modified".
As for the drivers, I assume your using windows? if so:
Press Start
Right click on "computer"
Manage devices
find the item that has the "!" error sign and right click update driver
point it to the kies installation folder.
hope for the best.

Done the above and it tell's me that I'm using the most up to date drivers.
ok new idea (but will only be a temp fix)
When you plug the phone in it should have a notification saying connected to media device.
Click that, change from MTP to PTP and back again. and see if that helps.
Just found this worked for me.

Yeah that whole "Hardware ID missing" was an irritating situation. This is what I recommend as far as making it work.
1. Plug in.
2. When you get the error message, I think its because of a conflict with the ADB interface. Go to Settings, Developer Options, and check off USB Debugging.
3. Plug in once again and it should work. If not, try toggling between Camera and MTP.

All i want to do is see my phone in MyComputer then I can access the files no problem.
Back on Media device (mtp) and it looked like it installed drivers and then the folder Computer/GT-I9300 opened so happy days.
Hi, I am posting here because I'm having a very annoying issue with my Galaxy S4
When trying to connect it to the PC via USB, nothing happens, it does start charging, but I can't transfer files (or flash through Odin for example)
It did work untill 2 days ago, I rooted it, it kept working, then it suddenly stopped
I have now tried many solutions, wich are:
Hard Reset in both ways
Reinstalling Drivers on PC
Trying different USB ports
Trying different PC's
Trying different cables
Wiping and reinstalling ALL USB Drivers on PC
Formatting my PC (Windows 7 x64)
USB Debugging both activated and deactivated
I have also tried to access *#7284#, but the "Qualcomm USB Setting" option is missing, could that be the issue?
If so, how can I restore it?
(I have tried changing it to Official status while keeping the root to update it to the last version, but it was already at the last version)
My device is currently Rooted
Device info:
Model number: GT-I9505
Android version: 4.2.2
Baseband version: I9505XXUAMDM
Kernel version: 3.4.0-431985
se:[email protected] #1
Build number: JDQ39.I9505XXUAMDE
Status: Custom
Please help me, I'm truly desperate
I think the easiest option is to try another PC just to eliminate the PC. I know you have done the format/reinstall but it's worth eliminating it.
I've had a right headache trying to update the firmware on mine and while my W8 laptop won't do it (Kies won't even show current firmware), my work W7 got a step further but still did not do it. It was only once I got into work did it work.
It could be something as sinister as the Windows firewall blocking it so check this - W7 will automatically enable it ...if you have another one installed on top, it could be that blocking it

Dude, this will sound stupid but I am on XP and my S4 connected fine with a friends Windows 7 box but my PC did exactly what you are saying.
I searched and tried installing Kies and USB drivers etc ... but nothing worked.
After hours of searching the internet I found the answer here on XDA (as always)
The answer which worked for me was......
HERE's THE SOLUTION:
1. Go to the Registry Editor (Start --> Run --> "regedit" --> [ENTER])
2. Search the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\
3. If you click one of the few subkeys in class (e.g. {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}) you'll find the string value (Standard) on the right side with a value (e.g. DVD/CD-ROM-Drives)
4. You have to find the value "Portable Devices" on the string value (Standard) (In my case {EEC5AD98-8080-425f-922A-DABF3DE3F69A}, but I don't know if they are called always the same.
5. Once found, you see a string value called UpperFilters --> DELETE IT!
6. Finished! Now your Samsung Mobile MTP Device should be recognized and even installed correctly right away. (The name of the device changed to GT-I9100 (Devicemanager) in my case...)

Now this worked instantly for me but please check this is the case for your operating system.

Damn. sorry. guess its XP only.
Ok.. Have you got Allow USB debugging set on in Developer options?
Activate Developer options:
Open Settings on your Android phone or tablet.
Scroll down to About and tap it.
Now tap Build number seven times.
After tapping the Build Number 7 times, you will see a message “You are now a developer!” If you have a Galaxy S4 or any other Samsung Galaxy device with Android 4.2, the message reads as follows- “Developer mode has been enabled”.
Return to the main Settings menu and now you’ll be able to see Developer Options.

if so ... try this: (posted by rohan999)
So here is the cure. First connect your phone to your pc. Now right click my computer and select manage. Go to device manager and expand the universal serial bus controllers tab. Now you should see something like unknown device with a yellow exclamation mark. Right click it and select uninstall. Now reconnect your phone and try it.
Now again check in device manager after installation. It should look like the one in the attachment.

Tried the debugging method already, but didn't work
Tried installing MTP too, no results
Also tried the other methods, but I don't have anything in device manager with a yellow triangle to begin with, or anything at all that indicates that the phone has been detected :/

Running CM 10.1.3, I can no longer connect the phone to my PC (Win 7, x64). There is no acknowledgement from either the phone or the PC that a data connection has been made (other than that it was charging). I used to be able to connect okay, but now it's not working.
Searching around, this is apparently a common issue with the S4. I've made various attempts at dealing with this, including re-installing the Samsung drivers, with no success. I don't even know if it's specific to CM, or the phone's hardware/firmware.
Has anyone found a solution for this problem?
Hope this works for u. I had an issue connecting my Galaxy S4 as well. Here's the solution I found.
Click the phone icon to access the dial pad and type *#0808#
A menu will appear once the last character is entered.
Choose : AP on upper section and for USB Setting choose MTP.
Reboot the device. Good luck.

I can't get USSD codes to work. I get an error "Connection problem or invalid MMI code". Adding a comma at the end doesn't fix it. As soon as I can get past this problem, I'll give that solution a try. Thanks!

My computer has USB 3.0 equipped with fast charge, ASUS. The app updated and screwed my usb connections to any chargeable device. I wound up having to remove the app and then reinstall the drivers. Don't know if that might be an issue with your computer but it's with a check.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
I discovered that those USSD codes are Samsung specific, which means that they only work on the stock ROM. In CM, they are invalid.
Any other ideas?
