I am considering updating to 2.3.4 now instead of waiting for the official OTA. The reason I hesitate is because to my understanding and flashing, updating via OTA (future updates) or SBF, will brick the device. also are there any noticeable bugs? I am curious as to what everyone else is doing. Just looking for feedback

I am on the leaked 2.3.4 and can not imagine going back to any other version. I would imagine any future ota updates would not damage the phone.

Is there a ROM from a any particular thread you used?

Hi. My advise is this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159385
it´s gingerbread 2.3.4 from a dev.
Don´t wait more on froyo...
I just unlocked and upgraded to the stock FR orange rom, canadian here, and i have to say 2.3.4 is much smoother. BTW don't expect the same customization from a stock official rom vs a moddified stock or custom rom. Just unlock your self and have fun

So I thought I read on here multiple times that it was impossible to upgrade the Eris from the 2.1 Leak to the 2.1 OTA. Just for the hell of it, I gave it a shot. To my amazement it worked. Did I misunderstand the forum or is this really not supposed to happen?
Edit: Grammar
Can you explain more clearly please? Ota from Verizon or?
If you are referring to the "so-called" Verizon OTA release candidate it is possible to update from the 2.1 leak to this version, it's just not possible to update to the 2.1 root which, I may be mistaken, at one point had been called OTA in a few places.
Well When the first 2.1 Leak came out I immediately upgraded to it.
It was this one
HTC 2.1 Leak Rom
Verizon test rom, REJECTED. Do not Install if you want root.
Rom: http://www.sendspace.com/file/frqze0
I downloaded it from the original post from the Taiwanese guy who posted it on here in the first place.
Then just today I thought why not give it a shot and install the newest one. Which was this one.
HTC 2.1 Release Candidate (AKA OTA) Leak Rom
Verizon test rom, possible OTA leak. Do not Install if you want root.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RHNAWUR0
Was this not supposed to be possible or not? I thought I read on here that once the Leaked 2.1 was installed, nothing else could be installed. That we were stuck with it.
Let me know if you need any more info.

Oh ok, I guess that's what I did then. I was just confused. This version seems to run A LOT smoother.
Thanks for the answer.
On the contrary, from all I've read, I was of the understanding that upgrading from 2.1 old leak to 2.1 new leak was not only possible, but recommended, if the few bugs in old 2.1 leak...bugged you. Did my upgrade a few days ago from leak old to leak new, and it I like it.
Thanks for all the hard work, leakers and devs!

This is good to know!!!
It depends on how verizon packages the update. If its OTA, without an RUU or PB00IMG.zip, chances will be small (unless they do a format, then complete install, as custom roms do.) OTA's are targetted from one platform to another.
i've still not used the OTA froyo on my X. It doesn't appear there are any drawbacks since most developers have abandoned the X. Are there any drawbacks to using froyo OTA?

Yes, you will lose it.. but you can reroot no problem. There is no reason not to update to the latest OTA
There doesn't seem to be any reason to stay on the 2.2 leak because no developers are working on cracking the bootloader or making roms from the 2.1/2.2-leak days. Everyone is working against the 2.2 OTA/SBF.
I have been wondering the same thing. Until now, there has been no reason to do the OTA.
This is in no way a flame on Team Black Hat, but I was concerned that in the last 2.2.1 release, TBH decided to include the bootloader 10.04. (I am guessing they did it for a good reason). Then they built a Tranq. ROM specificly for that release. No 10.04 bootloader, no ROM.
I am still having a hard time voluntarily giving up the 10.01 bootloader which does not need the signature keys. But I guess there is no longer much choice.
Hi guys,
I am currently running the OTA GB version, and am kinda tired of some of the bugs (delay in camera flash, sometimes slow, etc). My question is: does the leaked, rooted version (.596) have the same issues that the OTA seem to have? Is it worth it to sbf and flash the leaked version, or is it a non-issue. I have no fears of sbf-ing and rooting, I just don't want to change the settings back to the way I want them more than I have to.
Thanks!

Yes. And no, unless you want/need root.
You can get a custom rom on the leaked one. That could fix things

*sigh* That's what I was afraid of. I guess for the time being, I will just deal with it and hope that Motorola finally listens us. Thanks guys.
So my xoom is still stuck on 3.0.1 why wont it update? And is there a way to force it to?
Followed this guide for my canadian xoom.

I wouldn't expect the Canadian update any time soon. The google buyout seems to have put a hold on the android updates Moto was releasing for non-US customers. Just last week on the official moto forums we were told if we want 'early' access to it, we should sign up for their testing program. What does that tell you? Nevermind it's almost the end of august now.....
Rob
I!m in canada as well, just root and install the hammerhead rom that's around. I have a smoother device for it and have absolutely no regrets!
Some user on the official moto forums said the Canadian OTA 3.1 update is live now with working sd card support (r/w). I can't test, I returned my Xoom and got a Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Rob
Canadian 3.1 OTA updates are indeed live. My 3.0.1 Xoom just now offered to upgrade itself to 3.1.
"Your tablet has been upgraded to 64.0.20.en.CA version"
Yup mine just updated today. Crazy timing
were you guys rooted with tiamat kernel when you updated?
I got the update but I hit "later" to make sure I:
1) don't lose root
2) don't brick due to custom kernel
Any thoughts?

Don't try to OTA update if you are rooted/with or without a custom kernel. Being just unlocked appears to be ok.
The Tiamat ROM has been known to cause some issues with the OTA updates, but that is due to the nature of the device being rooted. A few members have experienced bootloader issues where the device will stay stuck on the Honeycomb boot animation.
When that happens, all you can do is wipe and restore. You shouldn't have to do that now seeing that both Tiamat and the official US ROM are now up to 3.2.
I'm not on the Tiamat ROM, I have the kernel only (3.0.1 official from google, bootloader unlocked, rooted and running Tiamat Kernel 1.3.2)
I should wait then?

I would say yes, don't do it, but if you want to experiment, just make sure you are prepared to come back from a soft brick.
yeah I'll wait I hate starting over... I'll wait for a patched update.zip or something!
Thanks (hey at least 3.1 for Canada is finally out... 3.2 is out for the U.S. and 4.0 is coming... geez)
Can't wait for 4.0.

I can confirm this. Downloading nao!
For those of us who rooted our device and want to update OTA, what are our options? If I wipe my device, does that eliminate root which will allow me to update OTA?
Any news on 3.1 Canada? I get a popup every couple of hours and I hit "LATER" everytime ... waiting for the right way to do it
When I bought it used, it was running 2.3.4. I realized that 2.3.5 came out recently, and would like to update.
Supposedly, I should be able to get OTA updates, but the problem is that I don't have a data plan, so I would not be able to get the updates that way.
When I go to system updates, it tells me "your system is currently up to date," which is a lie. Is there another way to update? Would it require me to lose all of my apps/contacts?
As of right now, I'd like to run stock android, and not CM8.
2.3.5 is not currently available for the Nexus One. If you want 2.3.5: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Nexus_One:_Full_Update_Guide

As the poster above me stated, 2.3.5 was for the Nexus S 4G (Sprint). 2.3.4 is the latest official ROM for N1 so your phone is not a "liar."
You don't have to have a data plan to receive OTA updates. As long as you are connected via WIFI you can still receive new OTA's once they have been pushed.
Lastly, when you update via OTA, you do not lose any of your contacts or apps.
Hope this helps clear up the confusion.

There is a 2.3.5 branch for the N1 in the AOSP. Would be nice to see some completely stock builds, I think the closest is Mark Denver's ROM but he has added some of his own tweaks to it.
That's unfortunate.
I guess I'll keep 2.3.4 until ICS comes out. 2.3.4 still does everything I need.
why to update to 2.3.5. I think 2.3.4 is enough.

the only way to get 2.3.5 can be achieved by rooting and flashing custom recovery.
you can get everything u need in custom rom which will have tweaks( degree depending upon rom you want to use) lest u need to keep ota rom ..
Just wait, 2.3.5 is just incremental
why would you want a new update? 2.3.4 is good enough for a phone.
The major item in the 2.3.5 release was for Near Field Communications (NFC), which is not supported on the N1, so 2.3.5 is not really necessary.
