[Q] OTA GB vs leaked GB - Droid X General

Hi guys,
I am currently running the OTA GB version, and am kinda tired of some of the bugs (delay in camera flash, sometimes slow, etc). My question is: does the leaked, rooted version (.596) have the same issues that the OTA seem to have? Is it worth it to sbf and flash the leaked version, or is it a non-issue. I have no fears of sbf-ing and rooting, I just don't want to change the settings back to the way I want them more than I have to.
Thanks!

Yes. And no, unless you want/need root.

You can get a custom rom on the leaked one. That could fix things

*sigh* That's what I was afraid of. I guess for the time being, I will just deal with it and hope that Motorola finally listens us. Thanks guys.

Do unrooted phones have better performance? Hear me out!

I'm running Fresh 0.5.3. If I understand correctly, it is working off of the version of code that does not include the latest OTA update.
So that means that my OS is kind of out of date, right? And since none of the rooted ROMs really have access to the latest OTA, then they are kind of out of date, right?
This is not meant to be a troll thread. Honest question from a n00b.
Not all of us are running Fresh.
My phone is rooted, and up to date.

The rooted latest OTA rom, i would give u the link but it's on the wiki which is down
I don't understand, I guess. I know that you can root your phone and install a custom ROM. You can root it whether or not your phone initially had the OTA applied or not. Once it is rooted, your have a finite number of choices. There is Fresh, DamageControl, whatever. But I thought that none of these had the OTA applied to their code? Since HTC hasn't released it. Am I wrong?
If so, could you please, even though I know it's annoying of me to ask, point me in the direction of the ROM that you are using?
Thanks.

I am using Baked Snack, and it is based off the newest OTA.
DamageControl is based off the latest OTA as well.

I use the whitslack stock rom. Only real diff between mine and Sprint, is I have custom recovery & SU.
If you're running Fresh now just wait a little bit. Version 4 is about to be released according to Filpz' tweets.
most are based on the latest OTA, im runing OMJ 1.6
Would version 4 be going one step back since fresh is on version .53 I thought version 4 got skipped

They usually release only to a few thousand at a time the first few days, then up to 10,000 a day a few days later or something like that, so you might not get it till next week if its truly coming out.
They also have typically announced the update in the Verizonwireless.com forums under the android\incredible section. Until you see it there I would consider it a rumor.
Im just wondering if we will even get the ota if we're rooted or if we will have to unroot first.
According to this, the update is for real:

Oops...can't post a link yet.
hey OP, make this a poll
I've been seeing it everywhere, but haven't gotten it yet.

gonna have to unroot to get updates.
EDIT: I take this back. It depends on your version. If you have an older version of software and you have not turned off notifications you will get the notification to update. If, however you're running a froyo ROM then my understanding is that you won't see the update.
Been on all the android forums today , so far nobody has gotten the update OTA.
If it was out today vzw would confirm it like they did when we got the first update.
All I heard today was a friend of a friend got the update , RIGHT !
Verizon hasn't released the "official" OTA, but there is a leaked version that people are downloading and installing. It appears to be authentic, but since not an OTA may affect future Radio updates if you install it. Plenty of info over at the Droid Forum.

Which Droid forum?
this droid forum for one thing. Check in the development section and you will see several threads with leaked ota discussing this
.
I'm really anxious to get the update, but I'm going to wait for the OTA. I updated my Eris with a leaked OTA, and I ended up regretting it. It made rooting much more difficult, and stopped me from getting the final OTA.

Do you know how it stopped you from getting the final OTA? i would think if you wiped and went back to a stock ROM the network wouldn't know the difference.

Nope. Known issue with the Eris leak.
Well, I'm not sure if if I have the OTA or not, or just part of it.
I rooted with the original instructions, then updated everything with Unrevoked 3.1. Stock ROM installed, have working WIFI tether.
Yesterday, got a message in my notification bar that a Verizon widget was available. I can now add a new Data Usage widget to my desktop, which says "Data Usage 0.0/0 MB Estimate as of N/A". Not sure why it isn't updating, but it's possible that it's related to me having a corporate rather than a personal account.
Never got a prompt to install any OTA. Tethering still works.
Hardware version 0002, Firmware version 2.1-update1
So maybe the Verizon widget was pushed by itself without the full OTA since I don't have the standard recovery?
FYI, the OTA has been halted in favor of packaging it up with the official Android FroYo v2.2 update. So instead up two OTA's we will have one OTA to rule them all!

Even better! I assume the recommendation then is to unroot?

No, the recommendation would probably be to hold your horses and wait till the OTA get's patched so we can simply upgrade without any hassle.

Can rooted N1's update through google?

The N1 I bought on eBay is rooted and has 2.2 on it, I was wondering when 3.0 or whatever comes out can I just update it through google or do I have to do something else because its rooted? Im not really interested in ROMS and Mods or anything to be honest I just want the stock ROM, will this be a problem?
Thanks.
Not an issue either way. You would just manually flash the update from your sdcard.
asked so many times. maybe you should do some searching around. simply no. you would have to flash a stock rom to get any updates
So I have 2 conflicting reports here....
When those updates come out, you'll have rooted updates you can use.
Those will come out about ten minutes after the official updates are pushed.

No.... they both said you have to manually update, which is true.

[Q] 2.3.4 update now vs OTA

I am considering updating to 2.3.4 now instead of waiting for the official OTA. The reason I hesitate is because to my understanding and flashing, updating via OTA (future updates) or SBF, will brick the device. also are there any noticeable bugs? I am curious as to what everyone else is doing. Just looking for feedback

I am on the leaked 2.3.4 and can not imagine going back to any other version. I would imagine any future ota updates would not damage the phone.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Is there a ROM from a any particular thread you used?

Hi. My advise is this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159385
it´s gingerbread 2.3.4 from a dev.
Don´t wait more on froyo...
I just unlocked and upgraded to the stock FR orange rom, canadian here, and i have to say 2.3.4 is much smoother. BTW don't expect the same customization from a stock official rom vs a moddified stock or custom rom. Just unlock your self and have fun

[Q] silly newbie OTA question

so i'm long-time rooted, been wiping and installing roms over the past few months like crazy, but i'm thinking a dev version of ICS for my 501 won't come out very soon, so i might as well revert back to the latest stock and wait for my oficial update.
so, OTA is, afaik Over The Air, correct? If i just install Acer_A501_4.037.01_EMEA_TMPL from vache's thread, i get happy happy update, no? when it comes, obviously..
thanks
