broken screen and trying to recover data - Fascinate General

got a phone from a friend to see if i can recover her data, problem is, the screen is destroyed. she dropped a 3lb defib battery on it and it shattered the screen. the screen does not even light up. i have no idea on what the settings are on the phone(IE debug/mass storage) so is there any way to recover her data for her?

I have run into the same problem with a captivate. The bottom screen doesnt respond so i can unlock it. Is there a way to run the phones with a computer? I just want to recover my pictures.

she could just buy a new screen if the rest of the phone is still intact. http://www.repairsuniverse.com/samsung-fascinate-i500-lcd-touch-screen-replacement.html

What data are you trying to recover? Since some things should be in predictable system directories, you should be able to just pull them with ADB, as long as the phone is powering up. I'd expect you could save contacts and such this way.
Actually, here's a thought. Someone would have to confirm that this would work, but I can't see why it wouldn't. I'm assuming the phone is stock now. Use Odin to flash CWM recovery to it. As long as you know the layout, you should be able to navigate without actually seeing the screen. Maybe using a second phone as a guide. Then you could make a Nandroid backup that would be saved to the SD. It'd be simple to just restore that to another phone.

[Q] Need QUICK HELP, pulling internal data with no screen, rooted safestrap

well i have a GS5 rooted with alliance rom and safestrap recovery. The screen got a tiny little hairline crack in it but wont turn on. The phone still boots but the screen is dead. The issue is when i try to plug it into my laptop it defaults to verizon installer NOT media device. With out the screen i cant swipe down and change the connection type to acess the internal storage. There is not a lot on there that i want, i was hoping to pull a little bit off, and then wipe it before i have to send it back to the insurance company in a few days. Any way to get it to hook up correctly to my laptops with the screen dead. I am sure i am missing something super simple.
Thanks

Dropped S5 - screen is black, sound and home button still works

So, like the title says, I dropped my S5 today. I have a case on it, so it wasn't a direct hit, but nonetheless, the screen isn't coming on now. There are no cracks or visible damage on the outside and there is still sound. The LED still works, the home button is still functional, the capacitive buttons still work, it's just the screen. I realize that the easiest thing to do would be to send the phone into T-mobile and get a replacement, but I need a way of backing up the app data. Would you guys know of any solutions?
I am trying to pull a backup image, but I am not even know if the process I am using will even work for me or if I can restore the image afterwards.

The phone is rooted. I am pretty sure USB Debugging is enabled. Is there a way I can get into my phone and pull off the app data? I ideally want to make a nandroid backup and then flash the replacement phone in twrp.
**EDIT** - found a guide that used "adb shell twrp backup SDBOM" as a method. Would it work in my case for what I need? What I mostly care about is my app data and messages. I am not too great with the adb commands as I have never really had the need to use them, but from what I have read I should be able to accomplish everything I need to do. I should mention that I can get into recovery using Android Tools
****EDIT**** - I figured it out. I used this tool to access my phone.
Hi,
Try taking battery off.
Press power button for a minute.
Then put battery after 5 to 10 min.
Now try to power on.
See if anything comes on screen.
for me it works.
Good luck.

Note 4 won't boot up! Need to copy data off of it!

Hello everyone, I have had a Note 4 from T-Mobile for almost a year, until recently when I switched to an iPhone 7. The reason for this is because for the past month, my phone would start to randomly heat up quickly, especially on Snapchat. Everyday, the situation got worse, as the days passed by, the phone would reboot randomly, even when the phone is (rarely) cool! Recently, the phone heated fast right after boot, without the launcher even loading yet. All of a sudden, my phone rebooted randomly, and never booted past the Samsung logo ever again.
I have a lot of important data on this phone, like texts and videos, and I realized that I never had USB debugging on (which I always enabled for every Android device that I own). This is a pain in the a**, since now I can't copy over data through ADB or any software that requires it to have it enabled. I even tried other methods from software that would copy a temporary recovery file that would recover the data, but it would either not work on the phone, or other software would hang at 90%. Is there a way I can copy all my data, or at least enable USB debugging remotely? (meaning not through the OS, as it doesn't go through the Samsung logo) All help would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

it's good that your phone is booting at all. You can't get past Samsung logo but you can copy your data through recovery. Power off your device then hold combination of three buttons - volume up, home button and power button - for a few seconds till it boots to recovery. When your phone is in recovery mode plug it in to your computer. From this point you are able to copy data from device memory and from external SD card easily.

Sorry man, literally nothing happens when connecting my phone in recovery mode into the computer. BTW, I am on a stock ROM with a stock recovery, with no USB debugging.
What about flashing a custom recovery like twrp that will give an option for copying data although in my experience it never worked so well so I ended up copying to the SD card internally instead. You can easily flash it if you can get into download mode.
Hallo, don't laugh, but one trick that always work is to put your phone without battery and back cover in a plastic bag, such as those we use to place food in the refrigerator, and put it in the freeze for 5 minutes, once you take it out place the battery and back cover and your phone will boot as it used before the problem, I am waiting for the results!

This sounds so stupid. But can work; I've done it with mixed results dealing with a bad phone. (Google it if it sounds too far-fetched to be true... you'll be surprised.) But the TWRP option -- if the doggone phone will talk at all to Odin (big if) -- is a very good one. Maybe freezer option followed by boot to download screen (if it will appear) and attempt Odin flash of TWRP?

Wiping Nexus 6P with Broken Screen

Ok so it seems like the phone is still working but my screen isnt, because when I turn it on, I can feel the vibration, and then I can feel the vibration of the security pattern when I run my finger across the screen. However I cannot see anything, its black.
I want to sell the phone out for whoever needs it for parts or want to replace the screen themselves, because otherwise it should be in perfect condition. But I really need to wipe the data, even though nothing critical since I recently wiped and reinstalled but there are still contacts and messages, etc....
So even if I follow a video to ofllow the steps, the big problem is, in the recovery boot, it seems not always the same option comes up first for every reboot, so I would have no idea if it is on "START" or "Recovery Mode" etc etc....
So how do I wipe my phone for sure and confirm it when I cant see anything?
Anyone? I cant find one solid source on how to select the right recovery mode when you cant see anything.
Have you installed googles find my phone?

I cant remember now, been so long since I set this phone up etc.... but it did appear in the list in my Google Devices account but it cannot connect to it. I did click on the wipe device option (next time it boots up etc...) but the problem is I dont know if I can trust that, meaning since the screen is busted, I cant test to see if its been properly wiped, and if the next guy does fix the screen and for some reason is offline or it doesn't get auto-wiped by Google's remote service, then I am screwed.
Does this make sense?

Backup SM-J530F/DS with broken (black screen)?

Hello all together,
I have here the Samsung SM-J530F/DS of my father.
After the smartphone was dropped, the display no longer shows anything.
Is there any way to backup the data?
There is no screen lock set up, it would just ask for a pin when restarting (I have the pin).
There are no cloud backups and there is no SD card inserted.
If you can get it to connect to the PC.
If it boots and the touch screen still works, it's in the right usb mode and you can hit the connect popup. That's a lot of if's... if the mobo is undamaged you can try replacing the display.
Had he used a SD card as a data drive for critical data and a good case things be a lot easier.
Yeah, a non-dev user probably didn't have ADB enabled. That makes life more difficult.
If you do get ADB working you can use a screen grabber/poker desktop application.
My AdbGrab.exe (in the sig) will let you grab the screen and mouse click things.
It's slow, but the advantage is that it works on stock, unrooted devices without installing anything.
