[Q] Need QUICK HELP, pulling internal data with no screen, rooted safestrap - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

well i have a GS5 rooted with alliance rom and safestrap recovery. The screen got a tiny little hairline crack in it but wont turn on. The phone still boots but the screen is dead. The issue is when i try to plug it into my laptop it defaults to verizon installer NOT media device. With out the screen i cant swipe down and change the connection type to acess the internal storage. There is not a lot on there that i want, i was hoping to pull a little bit off, and then wipe it before i have to send it back to the insurance company in a few days. Any way to get it to hook up correctly to my laptops with the screen dead. I am sure i am missing something super simple.
Thanks

broken screen and trying to recover data

got a phone from a friend to see if i can recover her data, problem is, the screen is destroyed. she dropped a 3lb defib battery on it and it shattered the screen. the screen does not even light up. i have no idea on what the settings are on the phone(IE debug/mass storage) so is there any way to recover her data for her?
I have run into the same problem with a captivate. The bottom screen doesnt respond so i can unlock it. Is there a way to run the phones with a computer? I just want to recover my pictures.
she could just buy a new screen if the rest of the phone is still intact. http://www.repairsuniverse.com/samsung-fascinate-i500-lcd-touch-screen-replacement.html
What data are you trying to recover? Since some things should be in predictable system directories, you should be able to just pull them with ADB, as long as the phone is powering up. I'd expect you could save contacts and such this way.
Actually, here's a thought. Someone would have to confirm that this would work, but I can't see why it wouldn't. I'm assuming the phone is stock now. Use Odin to flash CWM recovery to it. As long as you know the layout, you should be able to navigate without actually seeing the screen. Maybe using a second phone as a guide. Then you could make a Nandroid backup that would be saved to the SD. It'd be simple to just restore that to another phone.

Motorola Droid RAZR/Cyanogen mod problem?

I've had this Motorola Droid RAZR for like two years now and a friend of mine took it and worked on it, adding something called "Cyanogen Mod" and he 'rooted' it I believe? Ever since, phone has worked great. However, today I tapped the home button and the whole screen had a weird visual glitch where the wallpaper was entirely intact but the icons and such were only half appearing, like someone scratched them out with fingernails or something. It would go away and come back so I got frustrated and rebooted my phone. It starts up normally and goes to this screen where you can do different stuff with Cyanogen mod (like changing the rom? or changing boot options) and usually I just continue past that because for 1) I know nothing about it and 2) It always was fine. But when it did the typical boot up, it just skipped back to the first screen you get when you turn the phone on and repeats. It never goes to the second part of the Cyanogen Mod where the words appear and the little thing spins, it simply skips back to the screen you get when you power up and repeats. It keeps doing this and I looked online how to fix it, tried about twelve different things (like restoring different aspects and using different roms or making new roms) and it just didn't work. Eventually it got bugged out where the screen was just black, couldn't get it to do anything but reboot and go back to black. I let it sit until the battery ran dry I believe and now I'm at a brick wall.
Is there a way I can totally just revamp and start fresh? Like remove all of it and reinstall Cyanogen mod/the OS and all that jazz? I don't mind losing everything if I can just keep the phone, I don't pay for a cellphone and I don't want one I just use the droid for texting apps/games/reddit/etc. If anyone could help me save this thing I'd appreciate it.

Hello? Can Somebody help me out, I've waited a couple days now and no one has said a thing?
You have safestrap installed, correct? If so, what version?

How would I know if I had it installed? I remember when I booted up the phone something came on with a picture of a little robot that said "Safestrap Enabled" and then when I had this problem it was saying "Safestrap Disabled". I can't get the phone to turn on right now though, is there a way I can check what version I have another way?
Ah. I see. First. try entering Safestrap menu upon rebooting, instead of allowing it to boot normally, and look at ROM slot and see if custom OS' ROM slot is active. If it's there and is not active try reactivate it. If it won't budge, get microSD card and find XT910 (RAZR - spyder) CM 11. If you don't know what to pick, I will look in a bit.

Just tried booting it up, nothing is working I think the phone is dead. I plug it into the charger and only the notification light on the top left goes on a blueish white and stays on as long as it is plugged into the charger. Nothing will turn on at all and the phone doesn't seem to respond to anything. Is my phone just dead..?
Soft bricked. Try pushing both volume down and up button while plugged into either computer or charger, and hold down power button until it boots. I hope you won't need to buy Motorola factory cable at this point.
Let your device charge for a few hours until it boots up. Then boot it into APfastboot and flash the stock firmware with RSDLite.

In English please?
Edit: Just plugged it in like you said and instantly the boot screen came on rather than simply that silly light so I think my phone is improving but I still would like to entirely revamp it or redo it or whatever you wanna call it so that everything is fresh and new and my phone is okay.
Good. I think it could be because the battery died somehow. Good thing the protection mechanism on the bootloader didn't have the wild idea of disabling the phone.

[Black Screen] S3 neo, READ and suggestions are welcome.

Hello everyone,
I have an S3 neo, it's 6 months old. About 2 months ago i started checking in this forums, and then i flashed cm12, and started adding custom roms to my phone. Everything was well, phone was working fine, and so on.
One morning i woke up and my phone went off, and when i turn it on, it's black screen. I restarted few times, took out memory card, and poof it worked. Was all good.
I left it like that and next morning it happened again. And since then i tried all the ways, like take out battery, hold power button 1 min then try to turn it on after few minutes, and so on. Nothing worked. Pulling out memmory card or sim card didn't work either. It's like this for almost 2 weeks i can't use the phone.
I cant get in download mode or custom recovery i i don't know why it won't react on that. It turns on each time like normally, led notifiaction works, the lights on home and back button works, only screen is black. I can unlock it, and such things but cant see anything.
I even succesfully did a factory reset over play store from pc, but that didn't help either..
Biggest problem is that its under warranty but since custom rom i can't take it to service unless i have money to pay... which i dont
I have NEVER DROPPED it, it was never in water, and so on. Doesn't have a scratch at all.
It even has sound, and everything. Just freaking black screen ....
So what i am asking is if anyone here knows how to remove custom rom and custom recovery over pc,is it possible, without the screen? Any way to do it so i can get warranty back ? All i need is a freaking stock rom and stock recovery and a binary reset i guess. Just freaking would need screen to work for 5 mins eh....
If anyone has any ideas please post them, thanks..

I think you can boot to download mode or revovery. The LED notifi and backlight buttons won't turn on if you boot to download mode or recovery.
Just try to boot to...
1. download mode. Just press and hold for 2-3 seconds power + home + volume down
2. then wait 3 seconds. After that press volume up.
3. Connect your phone to pc, open odin and check if a device is connected.
4. If a device was found by odin - flash a ROM (stock or something else) and hope that this will fix the black screen problem.
Good luck!!
Hi, thanks for ur reply but... My phone turns on when i click home + volume down + power button. I hear sound, blue led notification and so on.......
But when turned on, when i connect to usb odin recognizes it, says connected, and when i try to install the rom i it takes really long and on the end i get fail..*attached the screenshot of fail) I guess because its not in download mode. Any other suggestions how i could get in download mode more?
More suggestions please?thanks
Anyone has any ideas ?
So what all i tried is
Remove battery, hold power button for 1-2 mins, let phone for few mins and turn it on. didn't work
I tried with adb,but usb debugging not on so cmd cant find my device
Only thing left i guess if someone has idea how to get in download mode in some other way or some program that doesnt reguire download mode but can flash rom and etc.
@Crazeh
Take it back to the nearest service center and act the dumb ("I don't know what is wrong with it")
I have done that many times
They are prob gonna call me and tell me to pay for fix
No one has any idea what else should i try ?
try link2sd app form play store. it has the option to boot to download mode. I think titanium backup has the feature also.
My screen is black so i can't do anything on it.....
try to disable ambient screen. report if problem persist
How should i disable ambient screen ? While i can't see anything on phone cause of black screen ?thanks for reply Rox
Anyone?

ok so i think your problem isn't due to any rom but hardware problem
power off your phone remove the back , look on the left you see a little trap , open it , now you see connector it is the one of the screen try to see if you can disconnect and reconnect it
power on your phone and see if it work :fingers-crossed:
Where is that little trap?
btw if i do this will i loose my warranty completely ?

If Odin recognizes it, it means it's in Download mode. The device has different interaction with the host over USB when it's not in Download mode.
I don't see the screenshot of the failure. It may be that something got broken in your hardware, so the flashing fails. There's a known issue with the S3 called "Sudden death syndrome", I don't know if it applies also to the S3 Neo, where some of the memory of the ROM fails suddenly. If that is the case (I'm not saying it is, but it might be), there's no fix other than replacing the hardware.
Odin doesnt go over setup connection. cant post screenshot bc im new to the site. btw im sure the phone is on but recognized in odin...

Broken Screen with Trapped Data

Long and short of it is a company replaced a shattered screen. Then, the new screen began to peel away and then the connection became so bad that the screen is not functional. I just get a blank screen. I need to rip all of that data off the old phone so I can back it up and put it on a new phone (courtesy of the company that replaced the screen).
Here's where it gets tricky. The USB connection mode is charge only. I need to set it to MTP, but can't because the screen has lost all functionality. Without MTP, neither Android File Transfer nor Smart switch can't connect to the phone. I think Sidesync would work, but I can't install it on my phone.
An MHL cable won't help because it mirrors what is on the screen, but I can't select anything....
Are there any tricks out there that can help me before I have to send the old phone back in?
Thanks in advance!
You'll have to try fixing it temporarily . youtube has some good info

You can try and take a phone with the same os. If you have 2 computers its best (maybe one laptop or something). Turn both the phones off and connect them both to the computers and turn them both on. Look at the one that you see his screen and press the same places on your phone..

I'm in the same boat, have you found a way?

Note 4 won't boot up! Need to copy data off of it!

Hello everyone, I have had a Note 4 from T-Mobile for almost a year, until recently when I switched to an iPhone 7. The reason for this is because for the past month, my phone would start to randomly heat up quickly, especially on Snapchat. Everyday, the situation got worse, as the days passed by, the phone would reboot randomly, even when the phone is (rarely) cool! Recently, the phone heated fast right after boot, without the launcher even loading yet. All of a sudden, my phone rebooted randomly, and never booted past the Samsung logo ever again.
I have a lot of important data on this phone, like texts and videos, and I realized that I never had USB debugging on (which I always enabled for every Android device that I own). This is a pain in the a**, since now I can't copy over data through ADB or any software that requires it to have it enabled. I even tried other methods from software that would copy a temporary recovery file that would recover the data, but it would either not work on the phone, or other software would hang at 90%. Is there a way I can copy all my data, or at least enable USB debugging remotely? (meaning not through the OS, as it doesn't go through the Samsung logo) All help would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

it's good that your phone is booting at all. You can't get past Samsung logo but you can copy your data through recovery. Power off your device then hold combination of three buttons - volume up, home button and power button - for a few seconds till it boots to recovery. When your phone is in recovery mode plug it in to your computer. From this point you are able to copy data from device memory and from external SD card easily.

Sorry man, literally nothing happens when connecting my phone in recovery mode into the computer. BTW, I am on a stock ROM with a stock recovery, with no USB debugging.
What about flashing a custom recovery like twrp that will give an option for copying data although in my experience it never worked so well so I ended up copying to the SD card internally instead. You can easily flash it if you can get into download mode.
Hallo, don't laugh, but one trick that always work is to put your phone without battery and back cover in a plastic bag, such as those we use to place food in the refrigerator, and put it in the freeze for 5 minutes, once you take it out place the battery and back cover and your phone will boot as it used before the problem, I am waiting for the results!

This sounds so stupid. But can work; I've done it with mixed results dealing with a bad phone. (Google it if it sounds too far-fetched to be true... you'll be surprised.) But the TWRP option -- if the doggone phone will talk at all to Odin (big if) -- is a very good one. Maybe freezer option followed by boot to download screen (if it will appear) and attempt Odin flash of TWRP?
