You should flash 1.26 sbf and then OTA up to 1.83...
Do not flash 1.83 right away or you will brick your atrix

Ya, flash from 1.26 up to 1.83 then Gingerbread

Are you deodexed? If you are that will stop the update. I recommend SBFing to a completely fresh version and updating from there.
So would I just go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072 and download the 1.5.2 and the RSDLite and then just follow the steps from there?
Sorry if it sounds kinda noob just wanna make sure.

Better safe than sorry no biggie Yea just SBF to 1.5.2 so that way you have a totally fresh install and you know nothing has been moded. It goes a lot smoother like that.
Thanks for the help man I did the sbf and downloaded and have now updated to the new gingerbread without a problem. =) thanks again.

[Q] Bricking problem.

I must have done something wrong while trying to install a custom ROM on my phone and it became bricked. I tried to flash with RSD Lite, but I didn't realise the SBF I used was for the Defy, I have the Defy+. It flashed then the screen became blank and I couldn't turn it on, but it still connects to RSD Lite. I then found an SBF that looked promising and tried to flash it on, some text came on the screen saying what it was doing, then the flash completed and the phone reset.. then went back to blank.
Does anyone have any idea what I should do?
Would it help to go back to the original SBF? If so, where would I find it? It's an Australian Defy+ running on the Telstra network.
Have you installed CM9 karnel????
If you done this then there is only one option for you to flash DFP 231 STOCK SBF which is not rootable yet.
That means no downgrade/custom ROM via CWM recovery......
I tried installing a WIUI ROM. I can deal without root, I just want it to work.

Download sbf from the link below and flash it via RSD lite.
Do it at your own risk. Finally post the report here...

Don't worry flash your original SBF. Note it Defy+ is practically almost unbrickable!!! Go here and check the SBF that suits you. Since you could root your phone earlier I am sure your SBF would have been one with DFP-891 or DFP-1231 since DFP-231 is not yet rootable. So check the link I gave you and search for the SBF that suits you. I suggest flash the SBF with DFP-891 first(if that exists in the thread. Indian version is not there!!). Now if your previous version was DFP-1231 you will again get black screen!! If you do flash DFP-1231. Do a data wipe from stock recovery and your phone now should be alive!!
Steps:
Flash SBF:
1.) After flashing or before flashing, go to stock recovery(vol down+power) do full data wipe.
Warning: Never flash SBF with DFP-231, its unrootable and has BL7!!!

@pranks1989
Thanks for the tips! I actually ended up using 2311 (I hope that it's rootable?), and it boots now and works right. The only problem I can see is that now when I go to download apps from the Play store it tells me I have insufficient space available.

Well you got the bad news!!! Its not rootable yet!! Welcome to the league! Did you do a data wipe from stock recovery?? If not try doing that and check in settings>storage how much empty space you have. If that do not work do a data wipe from stock and flash SBF again!!! Anyways you don't have many options to try since you can't even root it!!
I wiped the data/cache and now I can download apps again.
So seeing as this SBF isn't rootable is it possible to just flash another SBF that is rootable and root that or will I have to wait until my SBF is rootable?
Thanks for the help, by the way!

Is there any way I can downgrade the kernel and install CM9 with froyo kernel??
This is bothering me for some time, I was browsing the forum for ages, with no solution

This is the answer!
SBF Flash. Or wipe data/caché + CM7 (Froyo) Kernel flash.
Also check your bootloader version, that's not downgradeable :/.

by that you mean you installed the .zip of the GB kernal or you flashed one of the GB's SBF?
if you didnt flash SBF id recommend you to flash 3.4.2_179-002(only if your phone came stock with froyo), dont forget to full wipe before flash and just than start updating to CM9 from step1 again. I recommend you on eppy's build, its really good.

When I flash it with RSD Lite, It seems okey, it does the job, at the end it says PASS (on the PC in the app)
Then, I unplug the phone from the PC and try to power it, nothing happens.. I can plug it back to the RSD lite and it detects the phone so I can flash it again..

but didnt the phone boot normally into froyo? i suggest you not to unplug untill phone boots up. If you are stuck in boot loop go to stock recovery by: hold vol down+power up>wait until triangle with '!' mark appears>push vol down and up at the same time> wipe and reboot
The phone was flashed but it did not boot at all.. It cant be turned on after the flash is done.. it can be just reflashed again via cable

Well.. you should try flashing it again... and the phone should boot into froyo normally when you finish flashing.
Nearly at the end of the process you should see RSD lite telling you:"Phone is being rebooted" and percentage under the progress column, and if you look on your phone you will see it booting up(M logo, then Android logo and then froyo.. normally).
By the way:what was your stock build and if you dont know it, where are you from??

Motorola defy acting unstable

hi
I have a Motorola defy 525 I bricked it a few time never had an issues going into bootloader and flashing the original .SBF and starting for scratch
this last time ....when it started it up it never asked me to sign into Motoblur the wifi was already on (I never opened it) it was how I left it before I flashed it
the touch screen was not very responsive also (no service) signal comes on and off every few seconds it does allows me to do a phone update but makes the phone more unstable it wont allow me to view apps also notice the phone getting warm front and back
to me it seem like the phone is just overlapping files and not totally erasing when in flashing in bootloader with the original .sbf file because I have been installing it frequently
am I supposed to flash with a file that will totally erase the phone softwear before flashing with original .sbf file ?
alittle help, helping a noob....
ive seem to fix a good portion of the problem I did a hard rest on the phone and it seem to be functioning normal on it stock rom now but im now having another problem I wont root with SuperOneClickv2.1

The Framaroot worked and it allowed me to install SndInitDefy with no problems, but when I tried to install GB it froze on the Google logo then had to flash to original sbf file
Once again I tried to install cm7 on my Defy
started from stock sbf file updated the software
installed Framaroot 1.6.0.apk
installed SndInitDefy_2.0.apk
booted in cmw wiped data/ factory rest
installed update-cm-7.1.0-jordan-signed
did a wipe again, restarted and again was left with a frozen google screen start up.
also when trying to install cm7 it was giving me (installation aborted) a few times before it actually installed
Have you try erase your MicroSD card? Or use a different new MicroSD.
Although you have totally wiped/formatted your phone by flashing it stock SBF.. but your memory card still hold some of your previous rom data..

[Q] update CM7 to CM10 after messing up with wrong sbf

Hi everyone,
some time ago I flashed a wrong sbf to my Defy and thanks to the All-in-One Defy Beginner's guide
Zephyrot said:
Installed full Gingerbread SBF and can’t go back to another rom: (!) aha! We have a issue here!, latest Stock Gingerbread full SBFs comes with a Version 5 of the CG, meaning until not long ago you were pretty much screwed. But wait, there is hope! A one kind Éclair has been found in China Defys that comes with Version 5 CG!.
How to fix it:
Method 1:
Download this SBF and Flash it
Root your Phone
Download 2nd Init 1.4.2 and Install ClockworkMod Recovery
Download and install this Nandroid Backup << File is Back, thanks Ichibanme again!>>
Enter Recovery, Wipe Data/Cache
After wiping, turn off your phone
Turn it on and get immediately into Bootloader mode
Flash this Fixed SBF
Delete Data/Cache again and reboot.
**NOTE*: I just rephrased the original post since it can be a bit confusing, it is linked as source below.
**NOTE2**: If you are using a non-Chinese defy, DO NOT USE THE CAMERA FLASH while on the Chinese rom, it WILL kill your LED.
Source: ((Original post here))[
Method 2: (BIG thanks to Jebrew again for this one)
NOTE: You are going to need CM7 for this one. CM7 Stable version recommended.
Download this SBF and Flash it.
Root your phone.
Download 2nd Init 1.4.2 and Install ClockworkMod Recovery.
Reboot to CMW recovery, and wipe Data/Cache.
Install CM7 then install Google Apps.
Reboot an go into Stock Recovery (using the vol- button, not from Bootmenu).
Do a Data/Cache Wipe or you won't have any space when you're done.
Flash this Fixed SBF
Reboot into your nice new rom.
Do not Wipe Data anymore or you will have to start again.

You WONT be able to install full SBFs of any Éclair or Froyo since these Androids have lower CG Versions.

I'm running CM7 again with a version 5 CG, if I got it right.
So far so good. But now I need to update my ROM to be able to update some apps that won't run on CM7.
So what's the best tactic for updating this messed up phone? Just flashing any CM10+ ROM (I tried several ones) didn't seem to work. I always got stucked at the red Motorola 'M'.
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot!
Cheers,
Martin

Thanks for your reply.
Besides the fact that I can't go anywhere to do a factory reset as soon as I've updated to something like CM10, I do a lot of resets/wipes on my way to this state (see quoted guide above).
