Hello everyone. I have the phone for 2 days now, and what I have noticed is that it randomly rebooted once yesterday (I think I caused it by running 100 things to drain the battery quicker) and a bit of lag when unmounted the SD card. Also gallery lags once in a while when loading.
Should I expect more random reboots, or was it caused by me?
About the lag, is this happening to everyone?
I also noticed that front camera is not really in the middle of its space, is it a generic issue?
Thanks everyone for the help ahead.
random reboots aren't really typical, but nothing to be worried about.
I'm guessing you are on the stock rom. i would blame the lag on that.
The offset front camera is normal. move has it and so did the other 3 mytouch 4Gs I've seen.
Hope i helped!

assuming you have the "good" eMMC chip, yes, visionary would work. Although i personally recommend the gfree method.
is there a reason you want S=ON?

As said above, yes you can use Visionary in conjunction with the root.sh script, but you cannot have perm root and S-ON. Radio security has to be off when perm rooted.

I do not plan to flash custom ROMs as of now, just need root for some apps, and fully working ROM without need of modding.
I tried to follow the instruction to find out what eMMC I have, and it came out SEM04G from Terminal emulator. Im gonna read more through that thread to figure out whether I have a bad one.
Can I ask you, what is your mA on a stand by with a custom ROM?

There is amazing app with widget on the market, called "Current Widget." It even will log your consumption into the txt file.
I had standby power consumption of 1-4 mA on my HD2. So I am curious if 14 mA is too much for myTouch 4G

So, my Nexus has been doing strange things lately. I was trying to go back to stock and, after doing some things I'd been thinking of during the past weeks, I tried locking my bootloader again, with the following command:
Code:
[email protected]:~/Android/STOCK$ fastboot oem lock
... INFOLock successfully...
OKAY
My bootloader doesn't have the ***UNLOCKED*** pink letters anymore and my boot screen hasn't got the lock either.
So I think I can say I've successfully re-locked my bootloader.
thats awesome...i will have to try when on home computer
Anybody tested?

Well, you may not care, but it was discussed 100000 times before.
"Holiday" / developer Nexuses can be locked.
Retail can't.
Get in your bootloader and see if it writes "S-OFF", which it certainly will do (otherwise it wouldn't lock your bootloader). When it does, post an apology to the poster you "didn't really care" about, and stop spreading wrong/old info.

The best ROM for you, is the one you like. It's really easy for us to tell you what we like on your phone.
I would verify that you have a good eMMC chip and get familiar with Titanium Backup and start flashing ROMs. Cyanogen(mod) is a world leader when it comes to ROMs, but MiUi is starting to creep up that ladder as well. Not to mention we have many EXCELLENT developers here @ XDA.

But don't I need to permroot to find out if I have a good eMMC? If that is true, then should I just root with Visionary first, find out if I have a good chip, if I do, then unroot, and then root again with gfree instead?
Cyanogenmod 7 and RoyalGinger 3.0 best roms with out a doubt so smooth and stable amazing battery life i love them throw on a Faux or Demonspeed Kernel and your good to good! Sense roms are pretty good i love unity but battery drain is ridiculous some of the people say they get like 20 hours and post all these screenshots of battery life time but if u look at the usage its minimal im a pretty heavy user so for me to say battery life is good its good! lol most ppl could get 14 to 18 hours i got 14 with pretty heavy usage non stop texting music, vids, couple pictures soo i vote for either of those. Cyanogen is easier to use and comes with Adw as stock launcher. pretty kewl.
Yeah, but doesn't CM7 not have some of the stock features of the phone?

Ohhhh, I thought you needed to root to setup adb at first. I'm trying to find my eMMC serial, but this is what happens.
Code:
md-iMac:~ md$ /adb devices
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
SH12JRM01408 device
The above code means adb is running right? If so, I get this when I type in the first code to find my eMMC.
Code:
md-iMac:~ md$ adb reboot recovery
-bash: adb: command not found
md-iMac:~ md$
Btw, I used this link to setup adb, on my Mac.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928370
Read the end of the thread.
There's a single command, cat /proc/some_long_path_to_virtual_device
Execute it and you'll see.
Plus, I'll go against most recommendations in this thread. "Pure" Android/Cyanogenmod ROMs might be good for some, but for me they're awful, visually and functionally inferior compared to Sense ROMs, especially to Sense 3 (Virtuous Unity). And I've been AOSP/CM user for a long time, but got tired of the ever-present quirks and lacking functionality.
Ughhhhh, I used the terminal method, and got the bad one sadly.
Well, the choice is still yours. You can take a risk and root, if you have warranty, and see if your "bad" eMMC holds - or you can avoid rooting, but you're still risking, since the "bad" eMMC, if it's really bad, will fail nonetheless from normal use - just a bit later. Just that if you're not rooted, you'll probably have less worries exchanging it.
Does T-Mobile or HTC replace phones with a bad eMMC, I got the extra monthly pay warranty if that helps.

I think the ones in older Sense devices just logs crashes in apps though, while the one in new Sense devices logs everything, giving the old one less important info, and leaving the new one far more vulnerable.
Isn't this where droidwall or the like comes into play? Removal is always best but blocking those unwanted apps from accessing data should be commonplace.
