*sigh*...i dislike the new tep - EVO 4G General

I cracked my screen yesterday and its bad. Spoke to Sprint repairs got angry at the new tep , but then I talked to Sprint cs and they gave me an override on my upgrade only lasting until the end of July. Well here I come. Samsung within , hopefully its released by the 31 . Good thing I broke my screen or else my upgrade would have been wasted, and I would not have found out about it with out calling cs.
Tdrl??? Broke phone , granted new upgrade happy customer . If in wrong section sorry

Sprint techs are allowed to do a one-time courtesy screen replace, just fyi.

Damn that's no bad , I want to call about my upgrade as well but I'm not sure about sprint service today is good but for a few months I had really bad service
You might be able to get the photon 4g and exchanged it before 30 days ofcourse if it comes out before end of July

Sprint tech here. You received a sprint premier silver tier override good until july 31. We're doing it for all customers who were formerly a premier gold status until end of month. Not that its not a good thing, but they used your situation as the premise for the override instead of telling you the actual reason they did it.

Since you are on the inside I have a question for you:
I got my override last month for the 3D. I just returned the 3D today and had my upgrade restored, I verified it with 1311. Is that upgrade "for good" or does it also expire on the 31st of this month?

Honestly, even the tier overrides should last *IN THEORY* until you actually do the upgrade. No promises, as they may do a sweeping change like they did with the gold to silver conversion, but I doubt it. On a side note, I saw your other post on returning the 3d, and I agree with most. But the aspect ratio of the evo 4g is 4:3, and the 3d is 16:9. :-D

That's what I figured, re: upgrades, and I'm sure even if it isn't true a little polite *****ing my way up the ladder will do the trick...Sprint never fails to leave me satisfied, srsly. Favorite service provider ever. (I've been with Sprint on-n-off a long time, so, I know that wasn't always true, lol)
But, re: Evo4g aspect ratio....really? It's a hair off, I wouldn't have figured 12:9 (4:3) vs 16:9...that seems a bit more drastic. Another poster on the E3D subforum did the math to show that even though both are 4.3" the E4G has 200 square-MM more area. (~5000 vs ~5200)...and it is noticeable.
Either way, thanks for the response.
EDIT: thinking about it further if 800x480 is WVGA, which the E4G has...wouldn't 4:3 be 640x480? I know sure-as-hell that my oldschool VGA (no, not SVGA) monitor that maxed out at 640x480 was about as 4:3 as it gets.....but then this also depends on pixel shape.

Since your a sprint tech I will ask you. Do you know what they would do if your original gold upgrade would have been August 1st. I lost mine and really want to get it back this once.

I'm curious how you folks are eligible for upgrades already. I mean, the Evo just came out a little over a year ago. Did you not sign a two year contract to get it last June?

The cut off is July 31st. They allowed a 3 month window starting April 1st (when the new Premier changes took affect) to allow new Silver members to get their Gold upgrade via the Silver Tier Override.
If your upgrade is Aug 1st, you're out of luck.

I called & called (retentions/ account services) but still I couldn't get the 1 year upgrade I would've had on July 1st.
You can buy out of contract ($75 after a year for me), do the buyback on the EVO 4G (-$150 off) & buy the 3D for $199, then Bill it to the account.

I suppose I should give Sprint a call to see if they will give me the upgrade. Though I have a feeling they will just brush me off.

I was told that the deal with giving an override was actually from april 1st to june 30th. This was for the people who bought the Evo in June and this would allow those people or anyone who upgraded to anything to get their last and final upgrade. I got mine pushed through but I had to fight for it. They will do it but there has to be some documention of other issues.
This was my situation and your situation and results may vary. I have had nothing but problems lately and it was justified. I don't know if I will get the Evo 3d yet since I have seen a lot of problems with dust and radio issues. I guess I will wait for a little till HTC gives word on the Bootloader and build quality improves.

really? I had asked if they were able to do anything about it and they just bluntly told me to go through insurance, since they didn't handle smashed screens anymore . This was the same comment received from one store and another located 20 minutes away.

Each store is different. Some are hardasses about it, others (like my store) don't give a crap since we're paid on repair anyway. A happy customer and repair commission in our pocket trumps an Asurion claim.

I bought my evo in August last year (shoulda got an epic, but that's another story).
I called Sprint two days ago with that number that was posted in another thread somewhere. I tell the guy basically how I felt like I was screwed over with the policy change, because the entire reason I switched to Sprint was so I could be upgrade eligible every year (this is true). I then asked him if I could have my upgrade reset/moved up/whatever. He said no, that promotion ended on July 1st.
I was pretty upset, told him bye and hung up. I then went to play basketball. In between games, I checked my phone, and I saw that I got a voicemail. The same guy basically said that he "talked with his supervisor" and he would give me an upgrade as a one-time courtesy. So now as of today, I'm sitting on the full upgrade.
I'm gonna hold on to it for a while. I'm waiting for a Sprint iPhone. If those rumors are false, and it doesn't come this Fall, I'll pull the trigger on a powerful Windows Phone 7 device (hopefully one exists by then). If all else fails, I'll get the Galaxy S II.

HTC Hero early upgrades

Sprint is great, I was 6 months into a 2 year contract and had 1 upgrade for my Airave line. I used that on the HTC Evo. I got on the phone with Sprint and asked them about my upgrade status for the 5 phone lines and was told that it was due in Oct 2012. I asked for early upgrades, they gave it to me! I picked up 3 heros and thinking of 2 other phones to get.
GO SPRINT!!!!!
oh but my contract was renewed for another 2 years but its ok!
Yeeaaa I have a hard time believing this one. First, airave upgrades dont exist. Second, upgrades are every 22 months besides your premier line (if you have a plan that gives you premier status) meaning by what you wrote 4 of your lines were upgraded on Dec 2010 and I don't think we are there yet
gg what do I have to gain by lying? Oh and I meant Oct 2011 hehe.
And btw Airave upgrades do exist. It might not be necessarily upgrading the Airave unit but there is still an upgrade credit. I used that to get my Evo and the Sprint rep simply swapped it out to my true phone line.

Actually its fully legit to do it. We do it at best buy constantly. I upgraded my sisters line with her airave and Im using my airave upgrade for the next android. All your doing is using the airaves upgrade and not activating it and swapping it to your main line. This puts your airave on a 2 year contract.
Nobody gets fired, its a screw up in sprints system that theyre too lazy to fix.

Early upgrades are possible on extremely rare occasions. I gave 2 last week for the evo for the same customer. My only customer to get one since the phone was released.

hey I'm curious. Do you mind me asking on what grounds did you give the early upgrade? Oh and is it possible to buy a phone out of contract at full price without activating it in store? I tried to do that today and it was annoying as the rep kept insisting I had to have it activated before I walked out.

Best part...one of your coworkers told me how and what to do. Before that "fool" opened his mouth we refused to do it. Then that "fool" told us it was completely ok to do and until you guys changed the system it wouldnt be an issue.
Next time I'd refrain on pointing fingers at us "fools" before checking what your "fools" are doing. Ive had far more f-ups from Sprint reps like yourself than I have from Best Buy account reps. Your the "fools" who had to halt the samsung moment cl14 upgrades because your techs couldnt figure out how to run the file. We were loading them the minute they hit the site.
Btw, in regards to your "Airave upgrades dont exist"
Yea... The system shows it, you can't use it and yes best buy/radioshack **** up all accounts from opening lines when customers were wanting to upgrade to using airave lines as upgrades. The airave, though it is now seen in the system as a line can not be used as a line to upgrade. Also please stop telling customers activation is free and tell them if they switch the phone to another line within 30 days they lose the rebate.
But of course one retard opens his mouth, the rest follow. If I show u a glitch in the system to give free evos will u use it too? Cause I know one. Just cause u can do something doesnt mean its allowed and then retention has to fix all ur **** ups. No update was evrr halted either, find a new source.
We have 6 lines and they all got upgraded 5 months ago at the same time, last night 3 of them could be upgraded so we upgraded 2 of them to the EVO for $199

I think it's safe to say we can ALL forget about upgrading a Hero to an Epic4g even a single day before October 10, and the only way we can even fantasize about an Evo a couple of weeks early is if Sprint ordered a staggeringly HUGE quantity of them only to have demand for it completely collapse once the Epic4g arrives. I really don't see that happening, either.(*)
(*)In fact, I personally think that's why there's an Evo shortage right now. Sprint knows demand for the Evo is at least partly driven by the fact that right now, it's their ONLY 4G android phone. They almost certainly have an agreement with HTC to promote the Evo exclusively for some minimum number of days, shortage or not. Thus, they're being extremely conservative about replenishing their Evo inventory only to levels they know can be sustained by ongoing new sales once the Epic4g is out as well. They don't want to end up in a situation where stores have a mountain of Evos piled floor to ceiling and a 6-week backlog for Epic4g.
From a PR standpoint, Sprint's ideal scenario would be to have every Sprint store be sold out of one or the other for at least a couple of days each week... but have enough in stock at SOME Sprint store within 50 miles to ensure that anyone (with a car) who walks through the door and is determined to have one *today* can go to bed happy that night, but will also tell everyone that they're so popular, they're sold out *almost* (but not quite) everywhere.
If you have any line that is elgib. for an upgrade and you upgrade on that line and switch it to your line then you lose your rebate.
If you were going to do this then you would have to wait until the rebate has been processed and then switch the lines so...

[Q] Sprint Store - upgrade a month early?

I reserved my Epic 4g at my local Sprint retail store, and while it comes out August 31st, my contract doesn't expire until October (Premier 1yr upgrade). Last time I came in they let me upgrade a month early and I was wondering if they would do the same in this case, or is that frowned upon without circumstances? Last time I upgraded from Blackberry to HTC Hero cause my Blackberry was wigging out. My Hero has a little chip on the end call button (cheap plastic crap) so maybe I could fuss that out of them? Any suggestions?

Early upgrades are available depending on contract end dates. If you have a month left on your contract you can pay an extra $25 and get an early upgrade...

If you're on your fifth (5th) Moment, then you should try calling in to tech support and not being rude..... You will most likely end up being transferred to MDE which is an advanced level of specialized support who , if it is in fact your 5th Moment and everything on your account is legit, could look to see what other devices are available to replace the Moment with. But you have to be willing to perform all of the steps of troubleshooting they ask you to and BE NICE!!!!!!
As for the topic at hand..... if you are going to complain about the chipped END button I hope you get nothing done for you. Sprint techs waste more time dealing with people calling in to get something for nothing than they do on any other task. If you chipped your END button, that's YOUR issue. Or if you honestly feel it is a defective device, hit up hTC before you go blaming Sprint and grow up, get a job, and buy your EVO in a month when you are eligible..... It's people like you that drive up cost of service because in order to provide somewhat decent service to people that need it they are having to hire countless support reps to take calls from people just like you!
Yep I was nice and they are esclating it up to Ceo level to get it approved

wow umadbro? I was just stating a fact. I also have dust under my screen but luckily I'm not one of those anal retentive customers you think ties up your service lines. Both are wide spread issues with the device, and I take very very good care of my device. It's probably fallen off my bed stand once and maybe dropped once in the whole 9 or 10 months I've had it. Besides, I was just wondering what my chances were, even with adding the cosmetic damage. I've been with Sprint for 5 years and they've been nothing but good to me, so I figure I'd just go in to the store and ask nicely. If not, I can wait another month for the 1yr premier upgrade.

Im glad someone said something on here about getting an early upgrade. So my upgrade is October 1st, and i got to thinking. If i can get this phone faster i will. So i called sprint and asked if i could have my upgrade bumped up a month earlier so i could order the phone and have it shipped to my door. The lady told me that the only thing she could do is move my upgrade up to September 18th. She said with all the preorders and in store walkin reserves its gonna be hard to get one on launch day, but thats what they say about every new smartphone. So now all i have is to do is wait 22 days plus shipping and i'll have my new phone,
I called in today and they moved mine from oct 1st, to sept 15! I just asked nicely and they were cool about it. Ima probbably hit up best buy or radio shack on 15 and grab one with no mir

I called CS and asked about bumping my upgrade to August 31st from October.. they said it shouldn't be a problem, but that it's at the stores descretion to make that call. I am not a premier customer... so maybe I have a chance.
Back when the Evo was coming out, I talked to them about bumping up my upgrade. I only asked about the one line, but they bumped up both lines.
Did the store bump you or did someone from CS do that?
Yea if your contract is about to expire they might move it a month, I'm premier so its my 1 year upgrade so less flexibility since i still have a year left on contract

Thought I would share my findings on SP Gold/Silver

O-k so I went to pay my bill today @ a REAL Sprint Store and asked one of the workers to explain this new SP Gold/Silver tier stuff. He looked up my acct. and saw I was due for an upgrade Jun 1 2011(mind you I jumped ship to Sprint launch day of EvO4G). So I asked him if that's gone bc of this new policy. He said, no, that I still will get my $150 off my next phone starting June 1st. He said that whoever already has an upgrade on their acct. whether that be $75 or $150 will still be honored for their upgrade. He said to change that would be unethical and would cause an uproar with customers. He then told me that once I use that upgrade, then I have to wait 16/22 months respectively, before I'm eligible for another upgrade.
Hopefully this clears up some things for people who have been freaking out over this.
Lol here we go again!
This saved me from looking thru anything for an answer thanks dude.
funny a lady from sprint that i have been talking to since my data troubles have started told me the only line on the contracts that would be affected would be the PRIMARY . all other upgrades stay and are safe . and that i would have lost it on April 1st
/shrug who is telling the truth .
i burnt my upgrade for my daughters shift in fact i was told i did the smart thing buy burning my upgrade ( im the primary ) or i would have lost it
It makes sense. Say you look @ your acct right now and it says I dunno...May 3rd you're entitled to $150 off your next phone. Imagine if that magically disappeared and a big F*** YOU was now on your acct in place. People would flip out!! The guy told me they just had started training specifically to answer these questions for SP customers. I guess we will see

But then again, if you really want to try, go back to that store, have that guy print out a sheet of paper, or write on paper, that says you WILL get your upgrade on that date, and have him SIGN IT. That way you will have SOME leverage come June. It may not work, but its worth a shot.

i just did that and no dates were given except i am available for the upgrades. does this mean i can wait until the 3d release?
They gave you 2-3 months notice they are taking it away. DUR DUR DUR.
well there is a loop hole. You can change your phone plan from the $69.99 to the next one up and keep that for the 3-6 months or whatever it is and you will be changed to gold. So basically, a couple months before you know you are due for your 1 year, switch your account and then reap the benefits of getting a new phone. Once you get that new phone, switch back to your original plan...eh...eh...
Anyone else think that will work?

Yes, this will work. This is actually what a couple of Sprint customer service employees suggested I do. I've already upgraded my plan to the ED 3000. Now I just have to wait 90 days and hope I can get the phone through wirefly and downgrade to the 1500 at the same time (anyone know if I can do this). I know wirefly has something about not changing your plan for 6 months after getting the phone. If I can't do that, I'll probably just buy it through Sprint; wirefly's additional ETF scares me. Haha.
loop hole.. sounds interesting...
but i am sure sprint would have thought of that...
and they will say.. you have to have the plan active at the qualifing rate for a yr to count!
but.. you can try it.. and let us know...

It only has to be active for 90 days, according to Sprint's website.

IT will Work!
Here's the low down...
I called on the 21st asking if my upgrade will change once april comes by...the stupid lady said no....after much research i found out that my upgrade will be indeed gone....
I called again on the 23rd...and talk to another lady and she said that i will lose upgrade...I demanded that i was promised an upgrade therefore i should get it...then i got transferred to a lead specialist...She wasn't very nice i was arguing on the phone that its unethical for youn guys to promise me something and turn arround and say sorry you can't have this...
She said she would issue a corrective action to her employee that told me i can keep my upgrade...I told her thats only benifiting Sprint becuase a corrective doesn't help me get my upgrade...
I got transfered to account services...explained the whole thing again. and then i got transferred to this supervisor guy...
He asked where i worked, i said target...he said ok. if we put you on the 89.99 plan and take twenty % off you'll only be paying 3 dollars more than you would be now, and come july 1st (the day i was supposed to get my upgrade) I can get my EVO 3D and than downgrade to the 69.99 plan and still keep my 20% off...So yes it will work
Cliff notes: yes you can switch to 89.99 plan and wait 3 months then you can get your phone and go back to 69.99.
BUT YOU HAVE TO DO THIS BEFORE APRIL 1st. Act fast...there's less than 3 days left for this deal...
Yeah this suck I got my wife and epic today to waste the upgrade and depends on EVO getting official gingerbread or no I will buy gull price the EVO 3D or get the ipad 2

HTC: We will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices.

For those of you preparing to make the jump from the HEROCs that have served us well, the dev community has claimed a victory today!
"There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience," Peter Chou, CEO of HTC

From Engadget
The homebrew community may mourn HTC's Thunderbolt, Incredible S, Sensation and EVO 3D, but the company's controversial policy of locking bootloaders is no more. Following a tease yesterday, HTC CEO Peter Chou has decreed from on high -- namely, HTC's Facebook page -- that future devices will be open.
We're holding out hope that this policy will also be retroactive, but this is very welcome news regardless. Ball's in your court, Motorola.

Hopefully they include the EVO 3D, and not start with all devices released after..

Holy **** thats amazing! I will never buy a different manufacturer. That was fast, and impressive. You got a link on that evo 3d confirmed?
I got an email back from Peter Chuo, unlocked 3D, I'll upload it later. I wonder how they'll do it? Release the key, our OTA, that is the question...
Here's the email
"Reduce the potential quality problem that might occur when users upgrade their phone"..... what a crock. I appreciate that they unlocked them but wheres the honesty? They didn't want home brew devs dipping into their sauce anymore. Same reason they won't release drivers. Makes me wonder if the 3d drivers will be opened or not, if so then we'll be in the same situation with s0bes kernel now. The whole reason I want that phone is the 3d cam duh. Guess we'll see right?
®patience is a virtue©
they will probably alwasy have proprietary drivers because sense is there baby and will never be open source.
without sense htc would be the same as everyone else.

I just replied to him asking about the encrypted kernel and recovery, and whether those too would be unlocked. I assume so, but I am curious. I guess technically it won't matter because if the bootloader is s-off we can do whatever we want anyway
this puts the 3d right back at the top of my list.. come september when my rebate is due, boom more htc goodness.. this is why i have stuck by them for my past 4 phones..

If you're interested in trying to get an early upgrade, check out a thread in the EVO 3D General forums titled "Absolutely fantastic customer service from Sprint". It seems Sprint is offering a one time manual override of your upgrade date. I've been sitting on an upgrade for 6 months so I can't personally confirm, but the 25+ replies to the thread all confirm the op's results.

I can confirm the above.
I initially called Sprint because I wanted to prepare for the release of the EVO 3D. I did not want to pay anything more than New Customer Pricing. I was prepared to cancel the contracts of each of the two lines on my account. The Contracts for the account expire in Oct 2011, so the ETF for each line would be $50. The beautiful part is at a certain point before the contract expires, the ETF flat lines at $50 and you have bargaining power if you can accept the fee.
I called Sprint and advised what I was trying to do. I told them that I wanted new customer pricing and I was willing to cancel my account and go elsewhere if I needed to. I really didn't want to leave Sprint, but you got to play hardball. I was transferred to the Retention department to handle my case after I mentioned the Hot Button word "Cancel", but I wasn't actually ready to cancel, just asking questions. I guess they don't mess around when you say this. After the rep clairified what it was that I was trying to do and after clairifying that I was doing this for a phone that was comming soon, she flagged my account for new customer picing which to my surprise, is virtually the same pricing someone within the upgrade period is given. I was not aware Sprint was doing this as it hadn't always been this way. The rep advised that it would take a few days to take effect. I asked her to ensure it was set for both lines. The rep advised that she would send the request to her supervisor and that I should receive a confirmation email within a few days. I asked the rep "If it's approved, does this mean that I can go anywhere (ex: Best Buy, Radio Shack, Sprint Store, etc.)?". The rep replied "It's not a matter of IF, it WILL be approved, and yes you can go anywhere just like a new Customer.". I excitedly thanked the rep and advised her that I love Sprint and would be happy to be a customer for life with such a high level of Customer service.
A few days had passed and I hadnt recieved an email with confirmation. I was a little disappointed, but not surprised as these things happen. I called in again and asked the first rep to verify that both phones qualified for Upgrade/New Customer pricing. The rep confirmed that it was all set. I felt a little hesitant, I wanted to be sure. Nothing worse than waiting till launch day to be dissapointed. I ran across an article on Engadget that showed Best Buy started doing upgrade checks on their Best Buy Mobile site. I dont know if this is new or something that's been possible for awhile. I felt that checking upgrade eligibility via a 3rd Party on not through Sprint directly was the best way to Validate. I went to http://www.bestbuymobile.com/upgradechecker, typed in my details and voila, I'm good to go and ready to fly on launch day. Now, to figure out when EXACTLY that will be.
i dont understand why everyone still hates on sprint customer service yall have no idea how good they are compared to tmobile trust me i know it was the worst experience ever when i tried to cancel my contract with them they just did not care at all even though i had service with them for 4 years and had a mytouch with them for a year with unlimited everything. so i switch to sprint and it was life changeing i actually had 3g at my house lol.
sorry for starting to ramble but yall have no idea how much i despise tmo.
I'm going to attempt this rebate reset tomorrow potentially.. will post results..i have always had good fortune with Sprint anyway so hopefully it will pay off here..
sent from my... wait.. what..
Yeah, I know what you mean.. I had an issue with them in 05 with a hurricane that hit my area. There was no tmo cel service here for over a month and they refused to credit me. So did the supervisors. I straight out said, just cancel me. It was because principle more than anything.
Been w sprint ever since.
Its best this way

Does that work for ONLY pre-ordering the Evo 3D?

Sprint is awesome

So, I read the thread about possibly getting a credit if you called and extended your account early. I figured I would call and try that this morning and also to see if, since I'm a SP Gold member, they would let me use my full upgrade (due on July 1st) a week early so that I could make sure I got the E3D.
I talked to them and they said that they would reset my upgrade retroactive to June 1st, but it would take about 24 hours to take effect, which really didn't help me all that much if I can't walk into a store tomorrow and buy one on launch day, like happened with the EVO 4G.
I just got a call back from Sprint saying that it had been processed, looked at my account online, saw the full upgrade...and now my EVO 3D is on it's way.
Sprint rocked on this one...
