another popular xoom forum say japan have got the 3.1 update
According to one Russian forum this 3.1 Japanese update supports SD card! There is directory /sdcard-ext, which is actually SD card.
It has build number: H.6.4-15. Kernel 2.6.36.3 [email protected]#1 and it has Firmware configuration version string: GAS_ASIA_HUBKDDI_P007
interesting indeed...
maybe 3.2 for US xoom's will include sd support after all...?
see also here https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/410288 ?
Sooo, if you've updated to US 3.1 it's worth changing back to UK just for SD support.
For slower updates for 3.2 etc. I am thinking not still...

Nah, if you've already updated to 3.1 and need SD support, you're better installing Tiamat kernel.
isn't the japanese version a wifi only?
does it matter? its sd card support
its been said that Non-US xoom will get sd card support.. and good thing is, it is suppose to be rolling out as we say..
Any chance we could see a full system dump?
so far, i think the rollout only started in japan today, with a "special" build for japan/asia
i think europe will follow in the next few days.
just checked on my euro 3g xoom in germany and there is no update available at the moment

android police on it too
I wonder when Canada will get it, they make no mention of Canada besides saying *non-us* I'm hoping its soon.

Canada are non-US too

Relax Fellow US Xoomers
i think we the US Xoom will still get the SD support. it is just a matter of time. this 3.1 update was given to us about a month or so ago. and it is just now hitting the rest of the world xoomers. so let hang in there, as stated in other thread. the US Xoom is a GED (Google Experience Device) so all the updates are coming from google directly. and the Xoom will be the US Xoom's will be the first to get any direct update from google.
this 3.1 update that is now rolling to the rest of the world was the same 3.1 we got with a few tweeks from motorola which implemented the SD fix. that's becasue the international Xoom is not a GED. it is MED (Motorola Experience Device). so all updates will come from Google to Motorola to International Xooms. i can bet that we will get the 3.2 fix soon, and it will take another month or so before the rest of the world gets it. that's just how it's going to be.
the US Xoom is the best experence you will get from Google. and in the future i can see Google making some feature exclusive to US Xoom. that's all part of the GED. i am going to wait it out, becasue i still have a good 15GB on my Xoom, even after a total of 515 apps install. i keep my media in the cloud, so i don;t have to worry about media files taking up space.
What is the difference of Android 3.2 Honeycomb, Android 3.1 and android 4.0? Will my Moto Xoom be updated to android 3.2 or wait for android 4.0? Thanks in advance~
Source:answers.downloadatoz.com/q,3417,what-is-the-difference-between-android-3-2-honeycomb-and-android-3-1.html
Three down, only seven more to go!
Primary difference is the support for lower resolution devices.
I doubt moto would put the development time in for the very little gain on other things included. We will probably get the 4.0 update, if there is another 3.X update that acutally does something for our devices, we might see it.
Doesn't 3.2 add improved hardware acceleration support and fixes for widgets and some of the google apps?
US Xooms will receive 3.2, since they're Google Experience devices. 3.2 is more than just small-screen optimized (the version number alone implies this is an update to all devices running Honeycomb, but it has already been verified to include platform-wide improvements). For European Xooms and other devices reliant on a carrier or manufacturer for updates, 3.2 is less certain.
3.2 is ONLY for 7 inch tablets. Xooms are 10.1 inches. Other then that, they are the same. So disregard anything else you hear.
Version number means next to nothing.

You speak as if you have some authority on the matter. I can tell you with great confidence that 3.2 will also fix various bugs one of which includes EAS security. Please don't come here and make blanket statements with absolutely no proof to back you up. I can at least give you an e-mail exchange between myself and a Google employee that confirms 3.2 will fix at least one bug and it has nothing to do with screen size.
3.2 adds support for 7", but it's not limited to 7" devices at all.
Care to post a link to any other source of information then a personal email correspondence?

That's how I read it too
http://thisismynext.com/2011/06/20/...ummer-seven-inch-tablets-qualcomm-processors/
We’re also hearing that 3.2 will offer support for Qualcomm processors in addition to the NVIDIA Tegra 2 silicon currently powering today’s 10-inch tablets — a move which makes complete sense, considering both the 7-inch ASUS MeMO and Huawei MediaPad pack Qualcomm’s new dual-core Snapdragon chips. (That also means today’s Qualcomm-based 7-inch tablets like the HTC Flyer would be finally eligible for Honeycomb, but that upgrades will depend on how quickly HTC can port Sense over to the new code.) Lastly, we’re told that 3.2 will offer some bug fixes and improved hardware acceleration, as well as updates to Movie Studio, Movies, Music and widgets. Not bad for a quickie point upgrade less than a month after 3.1.

Certainly:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=16992
At least ONE critical bug that's not related to screen size at all is being addressed in the next software push.
I would be hard pressed to believe that a software update would only be for screen size... they're going to sneak in fixes for stuff here and there. Stuff you might not ever be affected by.

There will be a Honeycomb maintenance release that fixes this; it will probably be available in a matter of weeks (no promises; these things are hard to pin down exactly). And I am completely sympathetic with your frustration; we are trying hard to make sure that this sort of situation can't happen again.

The work is done for this, but this isn't the only thing being worked on. And you have to allow for carrier approvals, etc.; unfortunately, these things take more time than anyone would like.
As far as other devices go, it's complicated. We send out OTA's for some devices (Nexus products and Xoom), but not all; in those other cases, it's up to the manufacturer to send out updates. So bottom line: I don't know about the Transformer...

I consider the issues section of that google site pretty useful as far as reports go

Two points:
1) I can respect your source valid, however, based solely on the term maintence update, I don't think we can assume that only means going to v3.2. Just like with any other version of android (say gingerbread for example), updates that fix bugs are historically numbered in sequence, I.e. 2.3 is the initial, then they release 2.3.2, 2.3.3 and the most recent, 2.3.4. Based on this, there is uncertainty.
2) my sources are much less technical, as they are tech journalists ( I use the last term loosely)
http://phandroid.com/2011/06/20/android-3-2-detailed-supports-7-inch-displays-qualcomm-cpus/
There are a few other sites that ran similar articles at the first mention of 3.2, but one is enough.

only US though - sadly.
my only grief with using US image on my UK xoom is the UK BT keyboard comes up with the US layout
SD card and 4g are also coming with 3.2 and its coming mid july .... I can't out my sources but I have it on good authority
Apparently 3.1 rollout has started in china.
Any evidence for this as there was noot much feedback from japan

Not really, only Motorola's saying
https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/415043?tstart=0#415043
when this came out in US some people got it by changing the xoom date settings ? possibility in outside US ?
Seems odd that 11 days after the Motorola 3.1 update with SD card support started rolling, out I've only seen a single blog post confirming it and offering any details.
oh well, several weeks for more ;p
maybe not many Japs have the Xoom... they all have the US version instead or flashed their Japanese Xoom with the US image
i think they have an update in japan.

Want news about updates to non-U.S. Motorola Xooms? Follow this thread. Android™ 3.1 for Motorola XOOM™ will soon be available over the air to all Motorola XOOM users in Europe. We expect the over-the-air deployment to begin in early August, with the package being available for pull by August 9th.

Meh too little to late, gave up waiting updated to 3.2 with my UK 3G xoom. Methinks Moto would be better served hiring the Tiamat team...LOL
Lordao
I'm sorry but how can it take that long to add in different locates the app on the market does it in 10seconds.
Motorola has no reason to delay it this long.
when people use my xoom and say yer i might get one.
I have to then reel of a speech about putting us firmware.
motorola why isnt the uk xoom a GED?
The only thing I can think they are putting in is support for non us external keyboards.
Other than that. Everything is in 3.2
In fact they should push them up to 3.2 anyway

I thought the Non US 3.1 is more like 3.2 anyway? Didn't they get SD Card functionality with 3.1 instead of 3.2?

If I remember correctly, the SD fix with non-US 3.1 is a Moto fix and not a Google one so, technically, it's not like 3.2 at all. It's 3.1 with a Moto SD fix.

and international keyboard support apparently
when people complained the uk keyboard was seen as a us keyboard layout, moto said that'd be fixed in an upcoming update
Too late Motorola, announced the Update for Canada "soon" been over two months and nothing not even a peep if it follows Europe or Asia or anything. I am ahead of 3.1 anyways. Been running 3.2 and happy no thanks to Motorola.

Stupid people complaining about the keyboard layout. They don't think of people in other countries who are then made stuck with an UK-layout while their country uses US-layout. Like here in The Netherlands. US-layout is what we use here, but the keyboard sold here for the Xoom is UK-version. If that turns into an UK-layout, then screw those yankers asking for UK-layout. They don't think of other people!
Went by Googles "Village" at SXSW. In one location they had ASUS Transformer Primes as the demo tablet (w/ the Verizon Galaxy Nexus as the demo phone).
but in the other location ("the Maps house") they had the WIFI Xoom upgraded to ICS (same build) demoing google maps. FWIW, they also had the samsung chromebooks as demos as well.
It's nice to see that the Xoom continues to feature in Google's plans.
Yeah it's a glad but, you know it was more amazing to see Google using Xoom for their demo BEFORE they bought Motorola.
Now that Motorola belong to Google it seems normal to use such as a Xoom for demos, don't you guess so?
