[Q] any solution to reaaarangement of icons - Galaxy 3 General

I have recently updated to froyo & have transferred a lot many apps to SD Card. However, whenever, I restart phone or unmount & remount the SD Card, the apps on SD become unavailable, thus showing only the default android app icons. After some time, when SD apps show up, the whole arrangement changes, whicjh is somewhat inconvenient to find perticular app.

More info please, like how the arrangement changes, and what launcher you are using and what icon sorting method you are using.
I'll assume you are using touchwiz, that the sorting is based on when it was installed, and that the rearrangement always puts the sd card apps after the phone apps (in a random matter?). I dont have touchwiz right now, so the only solution I can give is to to try a different launcher (suggestions: ADW, Launcherpro, Zeam, Go launcher). I dont know if you can change the icon sorting method in touchwiz, if so then put it so that it sorts by name, that should help, or maybe toggle automatic sorting if thats an option

You can manually sort by opening the app drawer / press menu / click on edit

If you use ADWLauncher EX there is a an option to backup and restore, presets and desktop configuration.. you could give that a go m8.

Thanks for reply. I am using touchwiz. I will try ADWLauncherEx & see if problem is resolved

if your using stock touchwiz there is an application to sort apps inside the appdrawer alphabetically.

check it out might help you

i know what you are trying to say...
the problem comes that the phone first loads the phone apps in the same pattern as you have selected i.e. if you have settings in the first window and my files in second, they will remain in the same place but the apps moved to sd are loaded when the media scanner is completed and so they rearrange themselves as alphabetic order in the remaining space of application window...
even i got very tired of rearranging them everytime as its very annoying...
the problem will come when ever you go in mass storage mode or unmount your sd as after you remount it the phone starts media scanner and rearranges the icons
solution--->install kyrillos or any other custom rom and partition your sd card in recovery,
after that all the apps directly get installed in your partitioned space and you dont even need to move them to sd card..
i have 75 apps installed now on my phone and all are still in my phone and not being moved to sd card still i have 175 mb free in phone and the problem does not come even if i reboot my phone or connect it in mass storage mode to the pc...
side affects-
1) - you cannot later access the partitioned space for storing other media
i.e. if you currently have 7gb card and you partition 1gb from recovery then even computer and the phone will show total space in sd card = 6 gb
i have a 8 gb card and have partitioned 512 mb so i hardly felt any diff in total space
2) - if you have apps in partitioned space and you remove your sd card while phone is on, it will be like you are removing the main hard disk form a computer while it was on..so result will be that the phone will immediately freeze and turn off..
another advantage of partition---you can also partition you sd card's memory as swap memory will the phone can use as a secondry ram hence you can increase your ram to 512 mb ( 256 mb internal and 256 (max supported) on external)...
if you liked what i was saying please press the thanks button...

not enough storage on my phone ?

Hi first post...new phone.....great product, I love it......to get to the point, I have down loaded a couple of simple apps from the in-house market place, the second one "i spy wifi" wouldnt complete because "quote" ...reqs newer version microsoftR.net compact framework, this wouldnt download because I dont have enough free space, even though there is a 4 gb micro card with loads of room.........how do i get things onto the card storage?.......can I put a 16gb card in place of the 4 ?
cheers
Yes you can use 16gb card, normally when you install an app, it give you the option to install on device memory or Storage Card. I install everything on the the Storage Card and I've got a rude amount of apps installed .
Hi, do watch the cache in the main storage - this can fill up.
And, when you install apps from the Market Place it seems these automatically go to main storage and there is no option to install to storage card.
I'm using a 16 gb card with no problems.
thanks for the reply, not noticed an option offered for phone/card storage...will look for it next time....cheers..........
Just to follow on from this can all cabs and apps be downloaded on the card rather than the device? For instance I have cabs for home page transparencies and max manila, text removal on home page etc. Also cab games, official hot fixes, clocks, market place apps as well. And these are ALL on t he device.
Are there certain apps or items that MUST go on the device or can everything go on the card?

Anyone?
Pretty much everything can go on the card.
but I cannot seem to move anything onto my card, am I missing something ?
Just use file explorer to move the cabs to your storage card. Once you have installed cab's you can do what you want with them, move or delete them. When installing them it will prompt to install on the device or storage card. Choose storage card.
I always install to the storage card but when you install using Market Place it doesn't give you the option it just installs to the device. Does anyone know if this can be changed or if the cab files is stored somewhere so that you can uninstall from device and install on the card??
As far as I know, isn't possible to choose a different location when installing from Marketplace. However, is possible to move the applications from the phone memory to the SD card. To do that you have to use this app. Although there are some applications that you must install in the phone memory.
Many thanks, I will give it a go. I already have SK Tools do you know if that has a similar feature as I've not quite got to grips with everything it can do?

[INFO] Froyo Move2SD/Apps2SD version doesn't support all widgets from SD app install

Hi Guys,
I wanted to start a thread to discuss the reason behind why some app widgets work great when the app is installed to the SD whereas others don't and if there's a fix for this bug. I have a rooted Nexus One fyi.
E.g. is the Nexus One Torch Light application which works great even after a reboot.
For other apps, once I reboot, the widgets all disappear. I am using the command lines from Android Terminal to force all apps to install to the SD card. Google really should have done a better implementation of the Apps2SD.
My pet peeve is that some apps are installing 16 MB (Flash and Google Earth) on internal memory even when you force them to install on the SD card. So I am hoping there is a way to force apps with widgets on the SD card and recover some more space in the internal memory.
Rant: Google you really ****ed up a great chance to redeem yourself. You really should have given the user an option to format and install EXT for total Apps2SD implementation - especially on new phones/ after a user-initiated wipe.
So, you have the final Release for Froyo then?
Also, you do know you can go into applications and move Google Earth to SD right ?
Yes - and moving Google Earth to SD still leaves 16MB on the internal memory down from 21MB. Likewise Adobe Flash also leaves an absurd amount in the internal memory. So Move2SD is almost moot.

As with most people, you are missing something here.
The APK is moved to the sd, true. The app data (in your examples they have large lib files) is not moved. Thus, with each installation /data will decrease in available size, especially for ones with large lib files - Earth, Flash, CoPilot, etc.
Also, I am pretty sure the widgets shouldn't be moved in the Froyo implementation of A2SD because of the simple fact that it is using a file stored on the Fat32 partition of the SD card which is NOT immediately initialized by the OS upon boot, it requires a FSCK (File System Check) before it mounts the SD. Thus, widgets most likely attempt to load before the APK is available to load them.
EDIT - Also, this is not development, it should be moved to General discussion.
How did u get the Final Release?
There's a reason the option to move the applications to the SD is left up to the developer.
Some things SHOULD NOT live on the sd card. (widgets for one).
Stop forcing the apps to the sd card. A good developer knows when to allow it and when not too.
You are not a developer so you shouldn't be making choices as to where the app should be installed.
(the sd card gets mounted after the home launcher is retrieved. If the app is on the sd card the home launcher doesn't find anything to load.)

[Q] Prompt to install to SD OR main memory, how to?

Hi there, I'd like to know if there is any way for the system to prompt me if I want the app to be installed in the main memory or in the SD card. I know you can change the settings to make the system install automatically wherever you want, but I want some apps installed to the main memory (specially those that has widgets, so the widgets don't crash at reboot or resetting Launcher), and others to be installed at the SD card (those apps which I don't care about losing performance, but I'd like to have my phone running smoothly, so I don't want to install many apps to the main memory).
Plus, whenever I reboot (actually turning off then on again), the shortcut icons to the apps installed in SD card all go to that standard app icon (the .apk system icon), and I have to reset Launcher to get the icons again. That happens almost always. Is there any way to fix it?
System info: running Froyo (FroyoRedux CM6 Mod), Magic 32A (even though I don't think this last info matters).

apps2sd for vega?

I'm running apps2sd on my desire HD just wondered if there's a script for Vega?
Got it working just hadnt partitioned sd
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Hi!
I have a pretty noob question.
Vega has Android OS v2.2 and therefore when you go to "Manage applications" in "Settings" you can move apps to SD card.
I know apps need to have "app2sd" feature in order for this to work (and most apps already have it). And you can't use this if app has a running background process or it's a widget.
I know that if I move an app, it isn't moved totally, it still leaves a few KB on device storage, but that doesn't really bug me.
The moved app works like a charm on Vega and isn't laggy at all.
So, why is app2sd or link2sd needed for the Vega?
I have a Samsung Galaxy S phone and since the phone has 2GB ROM space, no app2sd is needed and don't exactly know why should I need it on my tablet, I have lots of games and apps installed and still have 135MB free space on internal/device partition.
From my understanding, apps2sd is just a convenient management tool to identify those that can be moved and report on space used. It just takes you to the app screen to perform the actual move. Hence it isn't needed, but just makes life a bit easier if you are installing loads of apps - it also detects at installation time if an app can be moved and reports back.
link2sd is somewhat different and makes use of a separate partition that needs to be on the sd card which is 'android compatible' (i.e. formatted to make a linux 'ext' partition). This allows apps that can't normally be moved to be put on the sd card as it appears to be an extension of the internal memory and in the same format. There are apps that still shouldn't be moved if they need to be available at startup as the sd card takes time to come on line.

Unable to use microSD card for apps .... suggestions?

Hello, i recently come back to the "dark world" of Android purchasing the P9lite.
Nice specs, good bargain for the price.
Then i decided to put a microSD card into it, and with my usuall luck, it seems this feature (of a normal Android 6.0 Phone) is disabled.
Any suggestion / Help ?
Unfortunately, Android's compability with SD cards declines with every new version, no idea why though.
Your problem can be solved the easy way - if you are rooted that is.
If rooted, check this site for possible solutions:
http://www.tomsguide.com/forum/id-2...d-setting-card-default-download-location.html
However, normally Android 6.0 SHOULD be able to use the SD card as adoptable storage. I don't remember though if the P9 Lite asks you how to use the card on first insert. This method requires encrypting and formatting though. See here for info:
https://source.android.com/devices/storage/adoptable.html
I don't really have the problem because I only install few apps and no games whatsoever so the 16GB internal storage is enough for me.
Pictures and music are on my SD.
If you want to root, check the excellent guides here on the forum. Really takes you like 5 minutes with some basic knowledge

You can make your microSD your default storage location for all apps by changing in Settings:
Settings > Advanced Settings > Memory & Storage > Default Location > choose your microSD here
To my understanding, this will make all your apps (Whatsapp, Facebook, etc.) to use your microSD instead of Internal Storage.

Sorry i dont use sd card on my p9lite. But my phone is perfect except the signal issue
My old phone is ASUS zenfone 4, now im using huawei p9 lite. I wanted to transfer all my data n apps in asus to huawei. but it seems that i cant find the transfer data apps
how can i transfer all my data n apps to my new phone?
Is it possible to just install a custom ROM like CyanogenMod? I heard that this one supports this feature.
maybe nougat will fix this?
hopefully nougat will allow us to do this!!
Emui doesn't support adoptable storage and move apps on SD card. I think it's a marketing choice so they incentive users to upgrade to a better phone with more memory but that has an higher price.
I tried in the past to force adoptable storage with adb but without success, the only way it's to install a custom ROM based on CyanogenMod/LineageOS.

i think apps will be installed on sd this way, as the used internal storage doesn't increase much when installing apps.
Hello everyone, I've the same issue. I root my device in order to be able to move my apps to micro sd card and set it up as default storage. And now, it looks that's not so easy.
I've formated my micro sd (32Gb) on my PC with Mini Tools Partitions Wizard like this : First partition : Create as Primary ; File System : fat32 ; Cluster Size Default ; Partition Size 19000Mb. Second partition : Create as Primary ; File System Ext2 ; Cluster Size Default ; Partition size 11521.93 Mb. Then I apply modifications. I insert the microsd card in my device, I reboot (don't know if needed), I open Link2SD, I try to move the app Messenger to sd card and I get : Failure "Error: java.lang.illegalStateException:รข~fNo suitable external storage available". After that I touch on an other app "Messagerie" (Default app), and here I have the posibility to select 'Link to SD card, I try and I get the error : "Second partition not found, /dev/block/ : device not found, make sure you have two partitions on your SD card and both are primary."
In the Link2SD settings, I can't select the option "Auto link" or open "Auto link settings" it's grey and disabled.
Has someone read any news about that since March ? The P 9 Lite is a great phone but 16 Go internal storage is to tight ! Thank you for your help.
I removed my sd card for taking pictures from lappi and when I again insert it my phone is not showing sd card pictures .perhaps sd card is working fine in other mobiles what should I do?
