Hello, i recently come back to the "dark world" of Android purchasing the P9lite.
Nice specs, good bargain for the price.
Then i decided to put a microSD card into it, and with my usuall luck, it seems this feature (of a normal Android 6.0 Phone) is disabled.
Any suggestion / Help ?
Unfortunately, Android's compability with SD cards declines with every new version, no idea why though.
Your problem can be solved the easy way - if you are rooted that is.
If rooted, check this site for possible solutions:
http://www.tomsguide.com/forum/id-2...d-setting-card-default-download-location.html
However, normally Android 6.0 SHOULD be able to use the SD card as adoptable storage. I don't remember though if the P9 Lite asks you how to use the card on first insert. This method requires encrypting and formatting though. See here for info:
https://source.android.com/devices/storage/adoptable.html
I don't really have the problem because I only install few apps and no games whatsoever so the 16GB internal storage is enough for me.
Pictures and music are on my SD.
If you want to root, check the excellent guides here on the forum. Really takes you like 5 minutes with some basic knowledge

You can make your microSD your default storage location for all apps by changing in Settings:
Settings > Advanced Settings > Memory & Storage > Default Location > choose your microSD here
To my understanding, this will make all your apps (Whatsapp, Facebook, etc.) to use your microSD instead of Internal Storage.

Sorry i dont use sd card on my p9lite. But my phone is perfect except the signal issue
My old phone is ASUS zenfone 4, now im using huawei p9 lite. I wanted to transfer all my data n apps in asus to huawei. but it seems that i cant find the transfer data apps
how can i transfer all my data n apps to my new phone?
Is it possible to just install a custom ROM like CyanogenMod? I heard that this one supports this feature.
maybe nougat will fix this?
hopefully nougat will allow us to do this!!
Emui doesn't support adoptable storage and move apps on SD card. I think it's a marketing choice so they incentive users to upgrade to a better phone with more memory but that has an higher price.
I tried in the past to force adoptable storage with adb but without success, the only way it's to install a custom ROM based on CyanogenMod/LineageOS.

i think apps will be installed on sd this way, as the used internal storage doesn't increase much when installing apps.
Hello everyone, I've the same issue. I root my device in order to be able to move my apps to micro sd card and set it up as default storage. And now, it looks that's not so easy.
I've formated my micro sd (32Gb) on my PC with Mini Tools Partitions Wizard like this : First partition : Create as Primary ; File System : fat32 ; Cluster Size Default ; Partition Size 19000Mb. Second partition : Create as Primary ; File System Ext2 ; Cluster Size Default ; Partition size 11521.93 Mb. Then I apply modifications. I insert the microsd card in my device, I reboot (don't know if needed), I open Link2SD, I try to move the app Messenger to sd card and I get : Failure "Error: java.lang.illegalStateException:รข~fNo suitable external storage available". After that I touch on an other app "Messagerie" (Default app), and here I have the posibility to select 'Link to SD card, I try and I get the error : "Second partition not found, /dev/block/ : device not found, make sure you have two partitions on your SD card and both are primary."
In the Link2SD settings, I can't select the option "Auto link" or open "Auto link settings" it's grey and disabled.
Has someone read any news about that since March ? The P 9 Lite is a great phone but 16 Go internal storage is to tight ! Thank you for your help.
I removed my sd card for taking pictures from lappi and when I again insert it my phone is not showing sd card pictures .perhaps sd card is working fine in other mobiles what should I do?

If you will use your sd-card as internal storage then you must edit your build.prop.
You need ROOT on your LG G3
- open build.prop
- scroll down to "ro.lge.adoptable_storage=false" and change FALSE in TRUE
- save build.prop
- reboot phone
- go to "Settings" --> "General" --> "Storage & USB" --> "Portable Storage"
- select sdcard "random numbers and letters"
- select the three dots --> "Setting"
- apply "Format as internal"
- thats all
Tested with stock marshmallow 30B on D855 32GB.

Anyone tried it? Any possible feedback about this mod? Is this require class 10 msd card?
Sent from LG D855
Please be aware that, Formatting the SD Card as Internal, turns your removable/external SD Card option into a more or less permanent (and no longer removable) part of the device.
If you choose Internal, things change. I believe the Card is formatted as a local encrypted EXT4 drive and mounted as part of the system. It's then set as the preferred storage, and you're prompted to move data over. Newly generated data is placed on the adopted storage by default.
If you try to remove it, things will probably/defiitely go haywire.

True. I don't recommend it though. Think system gets slow when using sd card as internal. I foresee hundreds of topics here on xda with MM is crap, apps are missing, this rom is so slow/laggy just as in my HTC Desire days when everybody used sd card as internal because of the little system space the desire had (150mb or something like that you could expand it to 1 or 2 gb if i remember correctly).

Ahh.... The days of the HTC Desire Bravo, my phone of choice at the time, whatever happened to Ext4 recovery....
I totally agree, keep away from SD Internal and get the App Developers to use Adoptable Storage.....:good:
Worked perfectly!
I tried it with the 64gb microSD XC card i just bought and now i have ~74gb of internal memory, thanks!
By the way, searching for the build prop line there was another one that said "persist.splitwindowsupport_all=false"
do you think that changing that value to true would bring multi window support for all apps? Thats a feature i used in my s4 ( via Xposed i think) and would like to have it in my 5.5 screen =D
If it doesn't work no biggie xD
Once again thank you! ^^

It's work
I followed the same steps as listed using Build Prop Editor. Then converted sd card storage to internal. However, my internal storage still reads 25 gb! I had a 128 gb class 10 high speed lexar card. It was also not showing up on terminal emulator through the "free -m" command. How to check where memory has gone? Thanx
Changed the build prop to false and redid everything. Works fine. Thanx

Well I wanted to increase my ram via sdcard through ramexpander. This was my usual routine. But Marshmallow nixed that and ramexpander was not able to write to sd card. So I edited build prop as shown in one of the threads and formatted my card to internal. Though ramexpander does not work, I have used swapper and voila! it was successful. I was able to verify swap through terminal emulator. Also increased clock speed. Now working well. I have found this method to be flawless when flashed properly. Trick is to flash all the zips and only then reboot. I read that the other method has issues.

Restore your build.prop copy or twrp copy of the /system partition or flash the whole system
Now that the G3 has marshmallow officially, you do not need root. You can change adoptable storage setting to True using ADB.
I even split my sd card into part adoptable (internal) and part portable (external).

Do you need root to do this?
All I've seen so far is that root is temporary on Marshmallow. So I would assume this change would revert back after I reboot my phone?
If you don't need root... could you post the steps and adb commands to enable it?
Thanks!
I used this as a guide.

It's supposed to be so you can move (some, not all) apps 2 SD card.
The problem is it does not automaitcally move the app to the card. You still have to move it manually. Also, when you update on Google Play, the app moves back to the internal storage.
It's not perfect and hopefully Android N improves this.
Is it for everyone? No. Some people do use it but some don't need it. Just leaving it "Portable"/External as it has been for years, still works fine.
I just did it because I can.
Hi, can anyone explain to me this app and how to make it work? Didn't find any good up to date tutorial.
Here is some info:
-I have TWRP rooted stock rom (SM-G935F)
-SanDisk extreme pro 64gb microSD card
-Plus version of Link2SD
-Pro version of MiniTool Partition wizard
Just can't make it work...So here are my questions:
-Can I use whole SD card as internal storage link? Or do I need 2 partitions, one classic mass storage, second one for linking? I am not planning to remove card from phone.
-Do I have to make some storage label in MiniTool, or can I keep it blank? And what about partition letter? For example G: , or can I set None?
-Can I use linked storage partition from computer via cable as MTP?
-What partitions are viable for S7 edge? And is there speed difference? (ext2/ext3/ext4) ... I was trying Fat32+ext4 and then whole card as ext4, phone always tells me card is broken and need format and I am at beginning again.
-If I somehow manage to make this phone to recognise it, how to actually use Link2SD app?
There are some topics and videos out there, but I didn't find anything up to date or in english.
Keep in mind I am just ordinary user who somehow managed to root his phone only becouse of this app - to expand low internal storage, without any knowledge about android, linux and filesystems. I just need to move some huge games to SD completly with obb.
Thanks for any advice.
Im having the the same issue with using Link2SD on my SM-G935F... Ive tried partitioning the sd card in every possible combination and still get a 'corrupt storage'' issue from the ext extention partition when rebooting my handset. From what I can tell its the actual Samsung firmware thats been rewritten to read the external storage differently due to their lack of foresite of allowing adoptable storage (code written out of their versions of Marshmellow 6.0 +, same as Sony for the Xperia range)... Fingers crossed a work around is found sooner rather than later as Link2SD is a lifesaver for releasing data and obb files from internal storage
I don't really know but I think the ext SD card is used as storage and even with solid explorer and similar file managers you have to grant permission before deleting or even creating a folder else it'll fail so I think you have to configure adoptable storage in order to be recognize as part of SD card to be used with Link2SD and also I haven't seen an update for Link2SD for a very long time.

I also have the same problem. I tried ext2 and ext4 as the second partition. Allowing 4GB until 1.5GB partition because according to the old guides, it can only process up to 1.5GB of second partition. But still, it always says it's corruted, there was a time when It was successfully read by the app but after restart, the problem returns. There was even a time where the FAT32 partition was the one that is not recognized
Sooooooooooo....
is there any solution to this yet ? cannot find Anything STILL !

Same here. Link2sd is not working (mount script error) anymore on S7 Edge (SM-G935FD). System crashed and did factory reset. Hope this issue could resolve soon.
I have the same problem, witch I think is specifically for this model (SM-G935F). Its seems that even rooted, it has some security on system folders, that prevents necessary mounts be done
I tried a mod where I can use the sd card to be seen as internal memory, but that mod pushes all apps to the sd card, and if affect performance of apps like facebook and other apps I use daily
in my previous phones I used to use linl2sd and I was in control which apps to link to sd card, and I would never choose facebook or whatapp , I used to link big games only
Is there a way to make link2sd work on s7e instead of the silly mod that pushes all apps to sdcard
I bought a 2015 J5 for Mrs Baldrick and she was delighted with the size and general speed but - like a lot of folks - she quickly started to hit the low memory warning: to the point were with only 5-6 apps loaded she was having to ask me to clean out email and text caches every 2-3 days.
We just got the 6.0.1 update and I bought a larger micro sd card and moved all of her photos out of the internal memory and that has got the phone back to around 1.5gb / 1.6gb of free internal storage space but that is still not great and I want to find a better long term solution.
My wife doesn't want me 'messing up her phone up doing weird things with it' so what I was thinking of is:
1. Install TWRP via ODIN
2. Use TWRP to install the adoptable storage patch (and root the phone with SuperSU while I'm at it)
3. Stick in a new 64GB microSD, format and adopt as additional internal storage.
4. Migrate existing internal data to the new storage.
5. Make sure the photo, video and music apps are defaulting to the new storage space to store their files.
6. Use root privilege to uninstall a lot of the default Samsung and Vodafone bloatware (like the full MS office apps)
Any other tricks I'm missing here or is this as good a solution as I can get without going for CM13 or similar? Anyone worked out exactly which default apps can be safely zapped?
Any suggestions gratefully received.

hi,
I am on a rooted 900w s5 and I'm trying to move apps to the system partition. Mainly, Im trying to move viper to stop it from turning off and on constantly when installed as user. When I try to do this and reboot, the app disappears. Only flashing the app from recovery works but then i get issues with the convolver in viper not working. Permissions are all set correctly too.
Any solutions?
Thanks
Hi!
I 've used Link2SD to do what you want.
I had done this manually in LP , but something changed in MM. I haven't found out the difference because I've used Link2SD and it is easier
Not working for me. Nothing seems to be working
The only way to install apps on system its using a zip file and flashing it from recovery to add those apps on system dir
if you are on Marshmellow, DONT EVEN THINK OF LINK2SD!!!!! _ (it will mess your internal & external Storage. yu'll need to flush stock os again).
the changes between MM & LP are mainly to the Storage Permissions.
Samsung disabled the option to move or link apps and their DATA to EXTERNAL!!!!
THOUGH..... there is an AWESOME App Called: "ROOT ESSENTIALS"
this is how you do it: (in case your premissions is not messed up)
in "root essentials" choose the storage tab and then format your Ext' SD as "Internal Storage". This way you will have all your storage as Internal (up to 256GB)
you can also choose how much % you want to allocate from your Ext' SD to be Internal, And how much leave as External.
-
This is the Only Good Solution I found on S5 6.0
p.s.
I just formatted all as INTERNAL and now my phone have 140GB as Internal (everything is handled as admin!!!)

How is that any different than what marshmallow can already do? Unless you can actually access the sd card when taking it out, it's the exact same.

Thanks for this but I dunno if this will solve my problem. My problem is mainly with viper4android crashing and staring up again (turning off and on) while listening to music. It happens when I install it as a user app which I have to do to get the convolver and field surround to work. To get it to stop crashing I moved the app to /system/priv-app and rebooted. I can't do that on my s5 MM. When I reboot the app disappears. LOL
I'll try your method and see if it works.

its not perfect but, if you do 50% as internal and 50% as External.... you will be able to access those 50% external from any machine (will req' a fat sd to enjoy space)
or
Downgrade from Marshmallow.

in "root essentials" choose the storage tab and then format your Ext' SD as "Internal Storage". This way you will have all your storage as Internal (up to 256GB)
you can also choose how much % you want to allocate from your Ext' SD to be Internal, And how much leave as External.

This is the Only Good Solution I found on S5 6.0
p.s.
I just formatted all as INTERNAL and now my phone have 140GB as Internal (everything is handled as admin!!!)

Hi
I Can tell what I did.
First data: I have a S5 900H Dualcore. Marshmallow 6.0.1 and it was impossible to mount the second partition using Link2SD I always got an error. So as described in this forum. I downloaded from Play Store the APK Root Essentials, and chosed the tab Adopted or Emulated Memory (I have this APP in spanish and I do not know how is displayed in english) a new window appears indicating taht the SD will be formated, I accepted it, the APP began the process and ask me to download from Play store a plugin to continue the process.
Downloaded the plugin directly in my cell, I flashed it (the plugin is in zip format, my cell is root and has Teamwin recovery) the cell reboot automaticaly and again I opened the Root Essentials, thats all. Whit this same APP you now may choose to move your APPs to the SD card.
Opening the system to see how is my phone now I found that Memory is 49.73 GB used to a total of 64GB (I do not know why those numbers because my Cell has 16GB internak and other 16GB External SD maybe some one may explain this) Anyway it is saying my cell memory has now 64 GB
Internal Memory 16 GB--External SD 16 GB. You cannot find that your internal memory is bigger than before because those ar the phisycally configuration BUT now your phone added the Extrnaal SD to the Internal Memory and works like a unique one.
There is another method you may try and it is using Xposed Apk, it has a module that make the same and links the ext SD with the internal memory. I saw that it works well. I cannot try it because I never could install Xposed App in this cell I alway got an error.
Hope this may help you. Regards!
Thnak you.
So i did not flush the plugin.
How did you flush it please?
Using odin or recovery mode? (and what did you choose? Update?)
Thank you
Does anyone actually have a solution to my issue?

Your first post in this thread says "This is the Only Good Solution I found on S5 6.0.1."
Look I don't care either way really. I have other things to worry about...

so, you really got me motivated to sort this out. (not about our dear thread opener though i hope he'll fin the answer, but regarding the sd as internal).
i did not quite on Root Essentials and investigated some more. happy to say i found a solution for S5 G900F, Android arshmallow 6.0.1.
this is what i did:
1. Root The Device
2. Install Root Essentials
*note*: there is a plugin file that we need to flush using RootEssentilas, but we will be asked to do so only after : Adopting, and the Revertring. (on reverting we'll be asked to flush the plugin). So....
3. Adopt the Sd. (Adopt the whole 100%)
4. you will be asked to Reboot, so do so
5. after rebbot, go to "Adopt SD" tab again, AND NOW "REVERT" the Process.
* Now you will be Given Ifo To Download the Plugin and Flush it USING ROOT ESSENTIALS FLASHER TAB!
(you would be also asked to Backup System and such, I DID IT maybe 10 Times But NEVER BACKED UP ANYTHING! so IMO, you can skip the backup).
6. Download the PlugIn
7. In RootEssentilas goto "TOOLS" tab and then the "FLASHER" tab, Click "Flash Zip File" and then choose the Downloaded File to flush it.!
8. After Flashing the Plugin Restart your Device
9. NOW ADOPT the SD _ (i have 64gb, I choose 50% so ill be able to connect my phone to Pc and Still Get the other 50% to move Files from Pc to Phone)
***IMPORTANR*** _ YOUR PC WILL NEVER LOAD THE ADOPTED SD!!!! (so if you did 100% from 64GB you will see Only the Real Phisical Phone Storage, on S5 its either 16GB or 32GB)
SO Choose 50% !
10. After Adopting the SD, goto "STORAGE" tab on RootEssentilas , And then goto "APP INSTALL LOCATION" and Choose INSTALL ON SD!! (SAVE)
11. Now install all your games and favorite apps (regullary!)
*****************************************
Now come the important Step
******************************************
12. in RootEssentilas goto "ADOPTABLE STORAGE" tab and then goto "MIGRATE DATA" tab. Click on Migrate Data,
Now pay Atention:
CHOOSE THE SD CARD That Was ADOPTED!!! _ (if you did 50%, the you will have 2 Sd Crads, one as Portable, And second wil be Writen As Oly "SD Card" Which is the Adopted AS Internal, So choose IT)!
after choosing the Adopted SD, Look On the Upper Right For the Three Dots of the Settings, clikc them for Settings and choose "MIGRATE DATA".
Let the Device to its trick, it will move anything it can.
you will see that your Orginal Internal Storage has more free space then Before the Migrate, And that the ADoptabe Storage Is getting Filled!.
thats it my Friends.
Hope This Help Someone.
if ill Do it again, Ill Make sure to Video it.
Specials Thanks for those Hard Core, Digging Friends that gave the the motivation to keep on.
thnka you.

CORRECTED. I Unistalled the adopted memory because I did not like the readings I get. I reinstalled it and now I am getting the correct reading 49.76 GB in use a total of 64GB. The problem I am encountering now is that sometimes the cell reboots.

I got this installed and mostly working I think. Device storage says Internal Storage is 16GB and SD Card is 64GB (I assigned that). Then the portable storage is 120GB from the rest of my 200GB SD. So it's working, though the SD Card in Device Storage is barely full and internal storage is almost full!
Hello,
I bought a 64go sd card (samsung evo plus U3) for my G6 because 32go is not enough for me (especially with the place already taken base by the system)
I managed to set the camera to save the photos on it, but I can not find anything in the settings to use the micro sd in main memory .. my wish would be that downloads, screenshots and compatible applications go directly on the sd without having to move them manually ..
Is it possible ?
Thank you all :fingers-crossed:

As far as I know not without hacking the phone
I think I read about it that it's possible with some ADB commands or also with root access,
but I don't know how exactly.
Google should be your friend in this case
You can do that by switching partitions but keep in mind that removing the memory card in this case may break your phone so I won't recommend it to anyone.
