[Q] Help with USB Charging - XPERIA X8 General

Does your X8 charge itself when connected to PC via USB?
I'm using 2.2.1 Stable from Lizypen (based on MiniCM 6) and even if the topbar and the unlock screen says "charging" battery's percentage don't grow up.
File transfer works correctly.
There's some option i missed up?

Come on, noone ever tried to charge its X8 via PC ?

if you choose charge from the menu shown when you plug in in your PC it charges. (does not mount SD Card)
sometimes also when i choose connect (mount SD) it also charges but sometimes (most of the time) it doesn't!

he's on froyo
try plugging in the cable when the screen isn't locked

I already tried it...
Can't understand why even if it says "charging" it's actually not able to charge the battery.
Fifo171 are you on stock 2.1?
If not, and if you are able to charge your x8 via pc, which rom are you using?
Thanks!

i'm using froyobread v17 and charging through the usb works for me, but it is slower than charging with normal wall charger

Have you checked the "Charge via USB" in the phone's energy saving settings?
If yes, you can look how much currency the USB port provides when the phone is plugged in. To do so you go to the device manager (on your notebook) and look for the right USB-Root-Hub. Select the properties and check for the value that is shown in "power settings". The USB-port should provide 500mA.
ye... everything is correct. what else can it be? :-\\
could be a process sucking power out faster than USB can put it in?
Is the battery cover warm?
try a soft reset first and plug it in again
my problem is X1 can only charge on usb port with computer.
it doesnt charge when i plug in ac/wall charger or car charger, i just shipped X1 for repair!

"When phone is on, do not charge the battery when connected to a PC??"

This message:
"When phone is on, do not charge the battery when connected to a PC"
makes no sense to me, because as soon as I connect my HD2 to my computer, it immediately begins to charge, and I do not know any way to stop it from doing so.
What harm can this cause?
The message itself seems contradictory. Why would someone connect their HD2 to the computer when it was off? To charge it?
nah it means that it could be charged only from usb charger (not PC) either when its on or off... when your phone is off it cant be charged through PC because it wont make connection and i think this function is made when u often connect and disconnect your phone from PC so u dont damage your battery...

Okay, but if that is true, then why does the phone ALWAYS charge when connected to a PC if the frequent connection/disconnection could harm the battery?
The warning message is characteristically cryptic in true MS fashion.
Why not just state directly: "Your charges via USB, but disconnecting it frequently while charging could damage your battery" if that is what they meant?
Where did you see this??

In the Active Sync dialogue when you connect the HD2 to a computer.
While connected using the usb cable you can press at the bar and then battery and you'll see the option. I'm also wondering if this will cause any harm to the battery.

It won't.
This option makes sense mostly when you connect the mobile to a laptop running on battery, for tethering for example. Instead of draining the laptop's battery and end with a full one on the mobile, ticking the little box means that both batteries will drain at the same time.

No, a PC in standby usually has power on the USB voltage lines, even when it's turned off.
This is indeed an option to prevent the phone from trying to charge itself from the USB connection. This could be useful for laptops or other devices (such as portable media players with USB host capabilities) where power must be saved instead of being used to charge the phone.
hi guys, does this explain the new O2 ROM 1.72 NOW not charging the phone when connected to my PC? Or is it a new bug I have found.
It does charge via the power socket/adapter but not through the PC...any thoughts?

This is an option in the HTC Sense 2.5.
Go to Start > Settings > About Phone > Battery.

Thanks for clearing that up!
There a number of points to make.
Connecting and disconnecting your phone will do no harm at all.
Some USB ports will struggle to start the charge process when the battery is very low.
If the phone is connected and being used in some way at the same time (if WiFi or bluetooth its on then there will be a continuous drain which a USB port may not be able to accommodate and it will appear as if the PC/laptop is sucking the power out of the battery.
The same thing can happen on a low battery and this is then very bad as the phone will operate at or around the discharge cutoff point and that will ruin the cell.
So you have the option to turn it off if there its any evidence of these situations occurring.

[Q] Problem connecting to USB

My phone just stopped connecting to my computer over USB. I went to update Fission to 1.2.1 and got stuck at trying to actually connect my phone to the computer. USB debugging is enabled and SetCPU is setting the USB charge profile, but I don't get either of the notifications I'm used to, and my computer doesn't register that I plugged it in. Anyone else run into this?
About phone states that the battery is discharging as well. Bad cable? Charges just fine over the other charger I have (dedicated wall charger, so I can't swap cables).

Sometimes its something simple. Are you trying to access your SD card? Make sure your USB sync is on USB Storage.
I get this problem as well. If I reboot my phone a few times it seems to start working again.
Yep, sure enough, after a second reboot it works fine. Thanks.

That was the problem, it never even gave me that option. just didn't register that it was plugged in at all.

Always try a reboot when something goes wrong. Id say 75% of the time it will fix your problem.
Might or might not be related, but...I just recently got a Droid 2 to "play with" and noticed that the internal memory can't be read by Astro File Manager or the stock "File Manager". When I plug the phone to my Mac I can only mount the SD card. I'm still looking at older threads but I figure I ask here just in case.

Sorry, let me get this right. 1 week after changing rom you have lost the ability to charge devioce while connected to usb. Is this correct?
During this week period did everything work ok? Have you checked your settings to ensure usb charging is activated? Did you ask your query within your rom thread as you may find other users using same rom have same issue.
Rick
p.s. I have moved this thread to General Discussion forum as its not related to Rom Development
Yes right. After install Rom charge y sync 100% work. settings to usb charging is activated.

Its strange for this to suddenly stop working. When device is connected via usb, does the phone led come on? i.e. checking that the cable isn't faulty
If led does come on, then I'd recommend asking within rom thread to see wether anyone else has experienced similar issues. If not, then flash a different rom (don't forget to backup first)
how i can flash ROM is usb cable not working. led does come on then connect usb
...

1. just for sure - Settings/System/Power - "when device is turned on, do not charge the battery ..." is unchecked"?
3. check the USB cable ...
3. if you can not synchronize your HD, then you can flash any other ROM from MicroSD - but first try "bootloader" (Power + VolDown) - maybe your PC will recognize HD ...
or try to clean your usb port on your hd vith some small brush or toothbrush or something like that, maybe its just dirty..
Universal lithium charger recommended

If you can't still charge your phone, buy a universal lithium battery charger similar to this one:
http://www.bestofferbuy.com/universal-cell-phone-lithium-battery-charger-with-usb-power-port-ac-110v240v-p-26225.html?SSAID=389818&utm_source=shareasale&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=affiliate1
When you receive the charger, you will need to adjust the two posts so they make contact with your battery's terminal contact points. Connectivity will be indicated by the lell-tale lights coming on green. This universal lithium charger can be used via a USB connection or alternating current (a/c). I'd recommend using a/c.
These chargers cost less than 2.60 USD either at this Chinese vendor or on eBay. I have three of them (one in the office; one at home and another in my travel bag). They work great!!1

X8 discharging while on USB ADB connection

Hello. I have found strange bug in GDX.018 + LDX004.
I was using Android Screencast to work with my X8 from PC screen. I ended with battery drained so much, that phone couldn't recharge it by itself, it was in bootloop (it tried charging in offline mode, but when voltage rises, phone boots up, charging is interrupted, and phone shuts down due to battery drain). Why system is not charging its battery while usb is in data/adb mode? I can charge it from same USB socket, just with USB-PWR connector (USB-A plug, 2 wires, USB-A socket).
Not sure if this is the same thing, but occasionally my phone won't charge while it is plugged to the USB port and I can't fix this without rebooting it. After rebooting I usually lose like 20-30% battery and then it starts charging normally again. This has happened to me in GingerDX and in Kuyadroid, so I am calling this a general CM bug.
My X8 also behaves weirdly when i 'charge' it with USB. So i don't do that anymore and i transfer files either by taking out the sdcard or using dropbox because im too lazy to move around my usb cable, lol.

You can use my phone explorer TO sent SMS, view and back lupe your contactar, and see files using Wi fi conection
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
Well what i do is turn off the phone and charge. I don't feel like doing anything in the phone anyway with the wire attached to it so i just leave it alone and let it charge in peace lol.
problem is, that phone can discharge itself too low to start charging on power (not pc)usb socket. So no, it is not an option. Only option was charging battery with 100 ohm resistor and 9V voltage source.
