My phone just stopped connecting to my computer over USB. I went to update Fission to 1.2.1 and got stuck at trying to actually connect my phone to the computer. USB debugging is enabled and SetCPU is setting the USB charge profile, but I don't get either of the notifications I'm used to, and my computer doesn't register that I plugged it in. Anyone else run into this?
About phone states that the battery is discharging as well. Bad cable? Charges just fine over the other charger I have (dedicated wall charger, so I can't swap cables).

Sometimes its something simple. Are you trying to access your SD card? Make sure your USB sync is on USB Storage.
I get this problem as well. If I reboot my phone a few times it seems to start working again.
Yep, sure enough, after a second reboot it works fine. Thanks.

That was the problem, it never even gave me that option. just didn't register that it was plugged in at all.

Always try a reboot when something goes wrong. Id say 75% of the time it will fix your problem.
Might or might not be related, but...I just recently got a Droid 2 to "play with" and noticed that the internal memory can't be read by Astro File Manager or the stock "File Manager". When I plug the phone to my Mac I can only mount the SD card. I'm still looking at older threads but I figure I ask here just in case.

Hello everybody I have a problem with my HTC Touch Diamond I bought in September and I did not have any trouble with it since now. When I want to charge my Diamond and I plug it in the outlet it asks me what type of connection I want (Active Sync or Disk Drive) and if I close the window thus not choosing any of them it does not start charging. If I want it to start charging I have to go to Start - Settings - System - Power - and Uncheck the box When Device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC. I have to mention I did not recently install anything or done anything to with. This glitch just started happening a few weeks ago. So my question is what is causing this? And how can I fix it? Thanks…

Are you talking about plugging the device into a mains outlet via the supplied mains charger, or into your PC via the USB cable? If you're using the mains charger directly into a mains socket and you're getting the message 'What type of connection..... ', then there's something definitely wrong with your device, in which case you need to follow AdamPatel's advice and get it replaced / repaired
Really need some advice!!!!!

Thanks for answering. Yes i am talking about about plugging the device into a mains outlet via the supplied mains charger. The only way i can get it to charge is if i check the box "When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC". This problem occured a few months bag and I moved the USB cable plugged in to the mains charger and it worked then but now no matter what i do to it it wont charge unless i check the box "When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC". And also today i looked closer at the usb cable that goes in the mains charger and i saw it was a bit damaged (by damaged i mean some small white wires werent covered - sorry about my description dont actualy now how to relate). SO my question is do you think the phone has hardware problems or just the usb cable/ main charge???
Thanks for answering
Mmmm...
Is there any way you could try another USB cable first. If it is damaged, as you suspect, it could be giving wrong information to your device (ie. about what exactly it's plugged into). Might be worth trying a new one first, before going through the hassle of repairs or replacement of your device.
It does sound a bit suspect I must admit. Give it a go
Hi.
I sometimes get the same thing, but not all the time...
If I use my cheap car charger - mini USB, I always get the message about connecting via Activesync or Disk Drive, whereas if I use my proper mains charger at home it's fine. This would suggest (with my phone at least) the problem is with the cable.
Is it a problem for you not to leave the box '...don't charge...when connected to your PC...' permanently unchecked? Then it's just a one button solution without the hassle of needing to get anything fixed.
I agree with grahamkdt, though, rule out the USB cable if you can by trying another.
Got a slight problem with my HD2, hoping theres a reset or something for this, but for some reason my HD2 wont charge or sync anymore, I can charge the battery in an external charger and pop it in and it works fine, but I can't charge it in the phone, or connect the phone via USB to my computer anymore, even in the bootloader red green blue white screen USB does not come up anymore
Anyone had this issue before?

Are you sure the option [ Setting/About Phone/Battery/ When phone is on,..] un select?
cheer!
that option has not been selected, thought I went in and TICKED the box, then turned the phone off and still not even the orange light next to the speaker came on to indicate charging so I went back into settings and UNTICKED it again.
This is not just a problem when plugged into the computer, this is a problem when plugged into the standard wall charger that was shipped with the phone.

So far, it can not be the problem with software or sth like that
when the phone is off, all is hardware control and it will charge when you connect the charger (if everything working fine)
So, I think:
1st : you try with another cable ( may be problem here)
2nd: the problem with the USB port ( can you self repair? may be just some ease solder action, sth lose inside)
3rd: mainboard problem *_*
Hopefuly the problem is cable issue
Tried the same cable with another HD2, the other HD2 charged fine (theres 3 at my office)
Tried 2 different cables with MY HD2, same problem
Tried differed wall chargers, usb plugs, computers, car charger... all the same, no charging
Hooray Main board problem
When I plug my usb cable in the phone beeps as if its charging but no usb icons come up.
usb debugging on is and its set to usb mass storage.
ive tried turning off the settings and then turning them on with it unplugged
any help would be great
Do you have the drivers installed?
Are you plugging your phone in through a USB hub or is it directly plugged in?
Do you have the usb icon in the notification bar at the top of your screen? If so just drag the bar down and click on it. It will ask you if you want to mount the sd card.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
What ROM are you running?
I have the same issue. It seems these phones are EXTREMELY picky about what USB cables that you use. I don't have the stock one anymore (damn cat), I have a few LG's and two from a Droid 1. All of them I have to 'wiggle' a little bit to get my computer to see the phone. Please remember not to push or force the cord, otherwise you will snap the charge port.
- Also, yes I get the USB icon
- Yes it is charging
- Yes I have the right drivers installed
Also sometimes I get "this device can preform faster", it just seems to me that the opening for the cable is a odd size and the other non OEM cables do not fit so well.
Hey! My phone ran out of battery. And when i'm connecting the charger it wont even turn on.
I have tried to hold down the safe mode combo, different chargers. When i connect it to the pc it says something like "Windows couldnt recognize this device".
Could it be the battery thats broke or is it the phone itself? Dont have spare batteries to test.
Tried a different USB lead?
Yes, tried different chars aswell as different usb ports on my computer.
Might be a problem with the charger input, when im moving around with the charger it makes the "noice" on widows that its connecting. Just weird that it says "not detectable device" on the screen. Any thoughts on this?

If wobbling the phone side of the USB lead around is connecting / disconnecting USB, and different USB leads/chargers don't fix it, then yes, it sounds like the charger port needs replacing
Hey all,
I've been having issues with battery drain for the past couple of months. I've tried flashing the stock ROM 3-4 times and I still have the same issue.
The strange things is, now when I connect my phone to a computer, it doesn't recognize it, it only charges. I do not even see the USB configuration pop up to choose mtp. When I try to change it from the developer options, I'm only able to select mtp or ptp but none of it makes any difference. The phone doesn't even get detected.

Problem is fixed. Issue may be due to faulty cable or usb port.
Try selecting "connected devices" in settings then make your choice.
I'm facing same issue since I installed the Gcam by using the non root method and now I'm stuck with Unlocked Bootloader and PC is not recognising my device and is just charging it. I have also tried installing drivers manually but it didn't helped. I'm on 8.1 now and the problem is since the May Update.

Can you try adjusting the USB cable in your phone? Like pull it out a Lil bit while it's still connected or tilt it upward or downwards. Helped me

This is directly connected to your other posts on battery drain, if you are having to do this you have a damaged USB port and explains exactly why you experience that USB OTG wakelock, the damaged USB port is causing the phone to think an OTG device is connected and it keeps looking for it.

Won't a damaged USB port mean my phone would have charging issues too?

Either way, what you are having to do is not normal, if it happens with more than one cable then it must be the port, take it to a service centre and get it fixed.
If it fixes the USB wakelock is another question but it's a bit of a coincidence you are getting a bad connection on the USB and also have a USB related wakelock.
