How to install - EVO Shift 4G General

I downloaded [OFFICIAL ROM UPDATE] Gingerbread 2.3.3 Update for HTC EVO Shift 4G from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127499
and I cant figure out how to install it. I put the file in the root file of my sd card then went into bootloader and nothing.

I'm going to ask this, but I'm pretty sure I already know the answer: are you rooted?
If not, and you don't care about root at this time, just go to HTC Software Updates, under Menu, settings, system updates, htc software update, and click check now.
Otherwise, two things disturb me about the link. The size of the file only shows 9.5 mb in the parenthesis next to the file name. It's actually 248 mb. Also, it's not in the correct name format, to just update from the bootloader. It needs to be PG06IMG.zip. But you can't just rename the file in the link above to PG06IMG.zip. It just won't work.
Or just go to shipped roms (shipped-roms.com) and download the latest ruu, and then connect the phone to your computer, and run the exe.

I tried the htc updates in setting and it said there were no updates for my phone. I gave up I found an ruu file and did it like you said and it worked great thanks. I was rooted but i only did it for wireless teather and i never used it so unrooting was not a problem.

By the way i used this ruu http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128410 to update and it work great

[RESOLVED] Android Market Problem

Hi;
Google doesn't allow to use android market in Turkey yet.. Therefore i have tried to install with using different method
I did following steps to install android_market
* I made root with using Visionary
* I made S-Off and Radio-Off (I check that in boot screen)
* I Installed Root Explorer
* Run, Root Explorer as Super User.
* I tried to copy android_market.apk from SdCard to under Systems\App folder with using Root Explorer.
* Root Explorer gave "System is Read Only" error message.
My HtcDesire Hd Build number is 1.42
How can properly install android market ?
Thanks
When you are in root explorer, there is a button at the top of the screen which says 'Mount R/W' you must press that before being able to copy into the system/* directory. Hope that helps
Hi, i had 1.42 non-market DHD yesterday. I just downloaded HTC Sync and a 1.32 WWE RUU in exe format. Plugged DHD in debugging mod and ran RUU. Program did what should do and in 10 minutes I got a market enabled DHD. No root or s-off.
Moreover market will be avaliable officially in Turkey soon. HTC Turkey waits for related.files from global to update phones in stock but I am not sure when will it arrive by OTA.
First of all thanks for replys

I asked HTC Turkey, how to install android market to my pda but they offered me to search internet on this subject. Unfortunetly, I encounter the first time you mentioned method on the internet. Anyway could you give me1,32 WWE RUU address. I have already downloaded "RUU_Ace_Vodafone_UK_1.32.405.3_Radio_12.28b.60.140%20e_26.03.02.15_M3_release_155032_signed.exe" . Is it solve my problem ?
Go in the developement section, open the sticky roll-up thread and there is a link to the DHD files.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Google: RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed.exe
get the first link from uploading.c om
And do not forget to first install HTC Synch and let it find the drivers (both in debuging enabled and disabled - charge only)
Some Turkish tech news sites say Android Market is available in Turkey. Great news. I hope we get the OTA soon.

How To: EB13 Froyo Download/Install and OTA!

- It has already been confirmed several times, the 2 files are EXACTLY the same (OTA and the 91.14mb file from samsung)
- Performing the update this way did not destroy any of my data, texts, applications, contacts, etc. Everything was exactly the same, except for the new version of Android. You must have a stock phone or the update most likely will not work.

"Force OTA"
UPDATE:: IF you cannot for whatever reason load the file to your SD Card, gmail yourself the link (below) and download it using Dolphin HD browser. I just confirmed it works on my phone, however, it does not work with the stock browser. Check the market for Dolphin HD, it's free. Client mode is set to desktop, which is under settings once in Dolphin HD. I was able to download the update.zip to the phone rather quickly over 4G Other browsers may work, I prefer that one though. Doesn't hurt to try. The stock one will not save the file, though will navigate to it.
As I first posted yesterday, there are [now 3] ways of downloading and installing the new EB13 Froyo release. If you have a Windows PC, there is a new utility that Samsung has released to flash the phone via PC. I personally couldn't get it to run on my Win 7 x64 laptop due to the enlarged font I run on my high-res laptop screen. Additionally, the 200MB file will wipe your phone completely clean. If you have a "trouble free" factory install of the current 2.1.1, the update method contained here is your best bet. Trouble free meaning that only bugs of the software are present. If you have issues above and beyond that of all other eclair users, you may want to completely wipe your phone.
The easiest and fastest method is to visit Samsung's Sprint Epic download page here http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SPH-D700ZKASPR and click the "Software" link (Manuals is the default landing page) and download the 91.14MB File labeled as for MAC OS. You will notice the much larger windows download (200MB) which is not needed, and may not work.
After you download the zip file, copy it over to your SD Card in your phone by either hooking it up and mounting it as you would normally do to copy files to your phone, or as I did, place the Micro SD card into an adapter and insert it into your computer. Copy the .zip file you downloaded onto the SD card; do not place it into any directory.
With your phone powered off, insert the SD Card back into the phone and replace the battery cover. Now, while holding both volume up and volume down rocker buttons (yes, you can push both at the same time), hold the camera button down as well and then press and hold the power on key. You will hold all 4 buttons on the phone until it boots into the flash menu.
Use the volume down button to scroll to..
"Apply SDcard: Update.Zip"
Push the Home key on the bottom of the phone and the update will commence.
Once it's complete, the phone may reboot into the menu again, at which time you select "Reboot" and hit the home key again.
The phone may reboot a few more times after it's first boot, and it may take a few minutes to fully get up and running. If it acts strange for a few minutes, this is normal.
Performing the update this way did not destroy any of my data, texts, applications, contacts, etc. Everything was exactly the same, except for the new version of Android. You must have a stock phone or the update most likely will not work. No ROMS, etc may be installed for the update to work. Before doing the update, go through your applications and uninstall anything you don't want / use.
You may also wait for the OTA update, but it will take a while to download, use up your battery, and you have to wait longer. It has already been confirmed several times, the 2 files are EXACTLY the same (OTA and the 91.14mb file from samsung) DO NOT waste time using a link to another file, there is no point and only risk in obtaining the file from somewhere else.
Before I began, I copied things off of my SD card that I wanted and performed a format on it. If you have apps installed on the SD Card, and you choose to do this, you may need to reinstall them. Once the update was complete, I copied the directories and files back to the SD Card.
(STICKY worthy!) No other post has this info immediately at hand.

Eh, it's not as concise, and also not borrowed. This is the easy, "don't do anything but update my OS" method. NOTHING is needed except the ability to load the Update.zip to the SD Card.

Personally, I think Whosdaman's version is much more concise. Perhaps you meant yours is more convoluted or wordy? But hey, potato, tomato, right?

Does this work on DK28 Froyo? Probably not, eh?
I am on all stock and have clockwork installed. I tried to do the update like you said here, but it aborts the install and says no error message. I downloaded from the link you provided. It says E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
Firmware version-2.1-update1
Build Number-SPH-D700 ECLAIR.DI18
So is there something I am doing wrong?

This has been answered in one of those posts with several hundred replies (if I had the answer on-hand, I would post it). I kept the Epic stock to avoid any issues, so my update was rather simple. A few people have already had to reload their phones a couple of times before everything worked out.

DK28 wasn't official. The latest official release is DI18 - 2.1.1. This updates STOCK 2.1.1 ONLY.
I didn't care to fool with the phone originally due to not knowing the exact release date of froyo. It has been way over due, but I honestly didn't have any reason to mod. Froyo has enhanced the phone, but honestly doesn't provide anything new that would change the way I already use the device. GPS is faster to acquire in google maps, but in GPS Test, it was always fairly instant. It's also reports more accurate, reports being key, it wasn't ever off but by 20 feet anyway, which is about all you can expect on 3D accuracy.
I used the .exe file from Samsung website to flash my phone and works like a champ.
Now some minor quirks with Froyo but will address them in different threads.
Thanks for the help!!

Wanting to root

Regarding this page:

(Guide) Flash SBF to Motorola Atrix 4G
I was hoping to get some help.
I have an unrooted Atrix. It's my first Android phone. I already installed the latest update, 1.5.7, when it came out.
I'd like to roo the phone, but according to the above link I have to flash back to 1.2.6. I think I can handle the rooting process, but the flashing to the prior build is what I'm confused on how to do.
Am I understanding this correctly?:
1. I download the 1.2.6 file. Question: (What is the 1.5.2 file?)
2. Download the RSDLite 5 and install it.
3. I have a Windows Vista 32 bit system, so install the
32 bit file since I'm not rooted.
4. Then follow the instructions...turn off phone, ect..
5. On Step 7... Load up the SBF file, that would be the 1.2.6 file correct? I'm asking because I don't know what that 1.5.2 file mentioned earlier is. Does it matter where this file is extracted to on my computer?
After this is all done then do I I go to this page
[SCRIPT] GladRoot v4.2 (Bell 0.37.4, AT&T 1.26/1.52/1.57 Supported - Now w/ UnRoot) and do the first set of instructions?
Sorry for all the questions. I'm new to this and don't want to brick the phone. I really want that Titanium Backup program so I can backup and freeze some things.
Thank you
Don
I had the 1.5.7 update without root and a few days ago I did the same thing.
1. I download the 1.2.6 file. Question: (What is the 1.5.2 file?).
just get the 1.2.6 file
2. Download the RSDLite 5 and install it.
yes
3. I have a Windows Vista 32 bit system, so install the
32 bit file since I'm not rooted.
yes
4. Then follow the instructions...turn off phone, ect..
yes
5. On Step 7... Load up the SBF file, that would be the 1.2.6 file correct?
yes
I'm asking because I don't know what that 1.5.2 file mentioned earlier is. Does it matter where this file is extracted to on my computer?
no
After this is all done then do I I go to this page
[SCRIPT] GladRoot v4.2 (Bell 0.37.4, AT&T 1.26/1.52/1.57 Supported - Now w/ UnRoot) and do the first set of instructions?
if you have AT&T yes. Extract it so that it's C:\GladRootv4.2. When you run gladroot.bat be sure to answer yes to the question "Are you updating an AT&T Atrix on 1.26 to 1.57? [y/n]"
I got the adb "Unable to detect device" error whenever I ran the scripts. Just run the command adb services in a command prompt (You should see a device name as output) while in the C:\GladRootv4.2 directory for your computer to detect your phone properly and then run the script.
It's fairly painless, the SBF flash can take a while, 15-20 minutes or so. You will lose nearly everything that's on the phone, so save what you want to keep. I did notice the ringtones that I saved onto the phone (not on the sd card) were still there.
Root explorer is more interesting IMO.
Cheaper than TB.
Just need to rename apk bay adding a .bak to freeze them.
Thanks for the quick replies. These forums are great!!
One last question. Once rooted, if Motorola comes out with future updates, will this process need to be repeated for each update?
Thanks again.

i'd rather pay for few bucks for TB to have a quick and easy "freeze"/"unfreeze" button than to keep going in and manually renaming apks.
plus you can do all the root exploring and file managing that you want for FREE with super manager (in market).

Not sure, it depends how devs here on xda manage to root a future build. If the approach is the same as what is available now (preserve root in current build, update, restore root) you will not need to do the flash, lose everything etc. only if you run gladroot.bat prior to the official update. If you install the official update without running gladroot.bat then you'll have to go through the fun that is SBF flash.
I have a question about this as well, so I thought I'd ask here instead of a new thread...but at the drivers section of the instructions, it says just download them but if I've rooted my phone I should already have them. But if I've connected my phone to my computer by USB before just to transfer files, even if I haven't rooted, should I already have the right drivers?

Maybe. I would just install the specified drivers listed just to be safe. It's not a very large install file.

Alright, fair enough! Thanks for the help!
EDIT: Actually one more question. Does flashing the original SBF clear my phone? If it does, how can I backup everything on there if I'm currently unrooted? (I'm flashing this so that I CAN root later on). I'm not too worried about this I guess but I should be prepared anyway...

Trying to go from 2.1 to 1.6

I am trying to do the directions I was given to go from 2.1 back to 1.6 for warrany reasons via this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872298&page=8
I am having difficulty trying to use the tool that was provided because I keep getting a error message when i try to flash with RootX10a_v2.exe that says, "java is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" I tried using the tool on a 32bit system and a 64bit system and I keep getting the error message (both Windows 7). How can I get it to work?
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I did install SEUS
I just did this last night...what i did was get latest flash tool...my operators firmware,...then bundled them...i have not had the error before...try to redownload flashtool

Restoring back to AT&T 1.6 Branded 1237-4604 Firmware with Root Explorer:
Your phone must be rooted. Make sure you run a backup first as this will wipe data. You need the app Root Explorer set to write permissions R/W (at top of the screen) then go into system/build.prop file and long press on build.prop file and open in text editor. Then change the SI number from 1234 - 4820 back to 1237-4604 in every place you find it. I think it appears 2 maybe 3 times. Then save and close. REBOOT! Then run repair software via SEUS or PC Companion. *If you have run SEUS or PC Companion since you updated to 2.1, you need delete the contents inside the folder "db" found inside the update service program wherever it is saved on your computer. **It will say that you have the latest software, but REPAIR ANYWAY! Reboot, setup, reinstall your Backup app from market, Restore. DONE!
*Root Explorer costs a couple $, but well worth it. If you have problems finding Root Explorer or do not have a paypal account, send me a PM. I will help you.
Theres no reason to go back to 1.6, if you are on official 2.1 it wouldn't invalidate your warranty. Just use SEUS to flash back to the last official release and you're good to go.

Update DVP to Mango. (very fast and easy)

Make sure you are updated to NoDo...
Here is a quick and easy guide:
UPDATING TO MANGO
1) Install the Windows Phone Support Tools 32 bit 64 bit
2) Connect your phone
3) Run Update.bat
4) The batch file will backup your phone, install the updates, and copy your backup to C:\PreMangoState
5) Zune should open and prompt for an update. Follow instructions from there.
6) After installing the first update, Zune will update again to 7661.
RESTORING NODO
Automatic:
You can use the Restore.bat file to automate the restore.
Manual:
1) Copy your backup in C:\PreMangoState to %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update
2) Run Zune, navigate to settings, click Update, and press Restore

There is always a chance, but in this situation it is minimal....Just make sure you are on NoDo, and follow the steps properly.
I updated to Zune a few weeks ago, my issue is that I cant seem to revert back, I have backups in my premangostate folder, each one is about 4GB, but when I put a backup folder in the windows phone update folder and run the restore.bat it says there's no restore point found.. any ideas what im doing wrong?
Edit: I mean updated to mango..
I actually just got over this problem, took me a bit to figure out.
What you need to do is what I did (not sure if it will work):
Delete the PreMangoState folder
Empty recycle bin
Downgrade to zune 4.7
have the WP support tools (Beta 2) installed
restart computer
do the Update.bat program
It should work as normal. When your phone is up to Mango status, then upgrade to Zune 4.8.
My theory is that the update.bat files know that the PreMangoState folder is there if you haven't emptied the recycle bin (since all that is doing is marking the space on your drive as free). However, emptying the recycle bin and restarting clears the space for good, and the update file will work as if it was run the first time.
How to confirm NoDo again?
is this will work on Tmo-US carrier DVP phones.
Appreciate it! But we need to point out this is update to Mango beta, right?
I used the other technique posted for my Tmo DVP and works great. Basically manual without the BAT files and W/o Phone support tools installed. Can't find the link though.
can you pls tell me the steps

NoDo inshort for No-Donut. Its basically a codename (by MS) given to the Windows Phone Feb 2011 update that brought copy& paste functionality and serveral other improvements in the OS.
I failed to upgrade to the next version of Zune after running this. Now when I connect the phone I get the Zune Software update required box. When I click ok, it tries download then gives me the message, "Can't find the media for installation package for 'Zune WMDU Component'. It might be incomplete or corrupt."
Any thoughts or am I screwed?
in the links that the OP provided, there is a download for Zune 4.8. Just uninstall your normal zune and install that one from the downloaded files. Your library will be the same, it will star up normally.

Remember to BACKUP YOUR BACKUP, as uninstalling Zune will likely delete it.
I don't see the download for Zune 4.8 in my downloaded files. When I drill down all I get is the Prov, read me text file, restore bat and update bat. is it in the prov?
Ah - my mistake I must of forgotten that this download package did not include the Zune update
I followed this thread here when I originally updated. Its very thorough and helpful.
That did the trick. Up & running. thanks.
